  1. Woke up to a dusting of S...... "I HATE S.......":bang head: :bang head:
  2. I was unhappy with the positioning of my mirrors after putting the Flanders bars on my RSTD. Seemed like I had to turn my head too far to look at the mirrors. So I bought some bar clamps and moved the mirrors forward as seen in these pictures. Had to buy some mirror stems because I could not find any metric reverse thread nuts for the stock stem that required it. Now I only have to slightly turn my head !
  3. I have been very lucky with my RSTD. The stock battery finally died last week (after 7 trustworthy/faultless years!) This is the winter to do some more detailed maintenance. I have an estimate of $750 from my local dealer for adjusting the valves, new plugs, synching the carbs, and flush/fill of the coolant system. That seems fair to me. However, the dealer is saying that - at 25,000 miles - I am overdue to have the steering head repacked at $900!!! No way. Just asking: how much have you paid to have the steering head repacked (and is it even necessary?) As always, THANKS! in advance.
  4. Put the 06 in shop today days before the warranty is up. My radio control head has been locking up. I took it there about a month ago and they could not duplicate problem. When i took it today It locked up right there in front of the service writer and a tech. both siad it looked like it would need a new control head. This is the first troubles i have had with my venture. Knock on wood
  5. 1) its cold 2) its wet 3) its heavy 4) you have to drive in it 5) you have to shovel it 6) you have to shovel it again 7) you have to pick up frozen dog poopsicles in it 8) you can't use yellow snow for snow cones.......its not the same.... trust me 9) you can't ride your scoot in it 10) you have 5 months of it.....it never ends now you know why "I HATE SNOW" :bang head:
  6. I'm thinking about installing a new head unit in my venture. It already has an old aftermarket Vetter radio in it, but my question is, am I just going to have to cut a bigger hole in the cover for the new head unit to fit inside? I couldn't find any info on this. Does anyone have any experience doing this?
  7. Each diaphram cover has 4 screws. The upper right screw seen to take a star or allen wrench while the other 3 are Philips head. But I can't tell for the screw seems to have a center tip the stick out preventing the tool to slid into the head. Is there such a tool with a center hole?
  8. I've placed my First Gen in the classifieds.....
  9. I got something you want............:bang head:
  10. Well, While Mike (eusa1) and I were riding back from B2Mom and Dads in the rain and I made a rookie mistake and am paying for it today. I was riding in the middle of my lane and went to slow down and just touched my front brake (stupid stupid) well the next thing I know I am on the pavement sliding and so is the bike. I slammed to the pavement very hard and hit my head very hard ( had on Helmet) and slammed my body hard also. Before me and the bike stopped sliding the bike spun and my head ended up under the front of the bike. Well I remember the bike going down and then the next theing I remember is Mike asking....Hey Buddy Are you hurt, can you hear me, hey are you hurt? Then I hear him tell a guy that was offering to help lift the bike up. DO NOT GRAB ANYWHERE EXCEPT THIS BLACK HANDLE. Well about that time I became undazed and told Mike I thought I was OK. I remember thinking when I hit my head WOW I am glad I have my helmet on. I also remember thinking OH NO my bike. Well I got lucky and It didn't hurt the bike to bad Rode it on home from Murray, KY. Went to the hospital when I got home and ended up with craked ribs, Chest contussion (sp) and a scaped and bruised elbow. I am very sore and it hurts to move but I will be OK. So the moral is...........No matter how much you ride or how much experience you have do not forget what you know and get to comfortable. Always remember the little things. It could have been worse for me and all because I forgot for just a second about the little things I learned. But as you all probably guessed it only took me about a 1/2 a second after I touched the brake to remember that I shouldn't have done that.
  11. Last year I noticed my lower deflectors were vibrating a lot. At the end of the season I checked closely and saw rust on the top of the bracket and upon even closer look one bracket clearly was cracked. I ordered the brackets online and today we had a heatwave here on Long Island (50F!) so I tackled the replacement. Below are the pictures of what I found;both were cracked; replacement is straight forward however a couple of observations: - the outside bracket screws were so hard to get out I almost stripped the heads. The insides were ok. Something about the position of the outside bolts ? Happans to also be the brackets cracked on the outside of the bracket. - Use locktite on all of the bracket screws. The factory did. - I stripped the 5mm heads of the passing lamp bracket using a ball head allen key. (too lazy to remove the front fairing). My local H/W store gave me stainless 6mm head cap bolts. A bit more confidence cranking on the bolt with a 6mm ball head allen key. Question: Anyone know what the hole is for on the bottom of each bracket? (see pic) Andrew
  12. In an attempt to track down any vacuum leaks, I was changing out the o-rings that go between the carb manifolds and the head. The outer screw on the left front carb boot had metal shavings on it as it came out. I am not sure if this is from a previous attempt at a repair and it is part of a helicoil coming out, or if it was just tightened too much and stripped some of the aluminum from the head. Anyhow, it will not tighten up now, and leaks oil profusely on start up. I also worry that some of this metal got into the engine since this is in an oil galley. Does anyone have a suggested way to repair this? Can I tap it out to the next size up? Help!
  13. I would like to get a head count on how many people we have coming to St. Jude on Oct. 1. So if you are coming and bringing guest, which I know some are, please post how many you plan or might have. Jason, if you could get me a count on how many NARR riders will be there, that would be great, because we may have to have more than one guide for the tour.
  14. So I decide to take a little ride tonight to enjoy the cooler weather. Made several stops along the way. No issues at any point. I stop at a little outdoor concert in Kingwood for about 30 minutes. Get back on the bike to head home, turn the key, the dash lights up for just a second then goes black!!! I check the kill switch, try a few more times. A couple more times it lights up for just a second or two. One of the times I quick hit the starter, but no go. I left it there and got a ride home from the wife. Now I'm going to head back with some tools. What should I be looking for? Battery has been on a battery tender off and on all summer. Can I try to jump it from my car??? Help!
  15. Here we go.. How about Sunday the 28th? Meet at Big Tom's at 10 or Pioneer Motorsports at 11 and head to Spragues for some AWESOME food.. EVERYONE WELCOME!!
  16. Everyone up the Eastern Seaboard pay attention to this girl, she means business. We hope everyone stays safe and has little to no damage. Right now the eye is projected to make landfall about 15 miles from us and then go right over us. Everybody in low lying areas head to higher ground she is going to be a big Rain Maker ala Floyd. Only she will be moving faster thank God. So play it safe please. Wayne
  17. I'm trying to figure out how to check my steering head for adjustment on a 2nd gen. Right now it seems to not stay anywhere I put it and will swing from side to side bouncing off the stops.
  18. I have the bike and trailer packed and plan on leaving around 7am. I want to make it somewhere in southern Georgia and camp for the night before I head to Vogel I hope everything goes well and there are no hiccups. Tom
  19. Does anyone know of any passenger arm rest outthere for an 06 Tour Deluxe?
  20. I have Yamalube 4 stroke oil SAE 10W30 API/SJ left over. Can I use this in my 08 RSTD for an oil change before I head up north. Next change I want to go and get Syn. oil. Joe :confused24:

  22. Just wanted to vent.... My wife and I had planned a Vacation this year after not taking one for a couple of years due to having TWO Weddings to pay for. Well THIS year we have the money and planned a two week trip. I had posted questions about it on here a couple of times. We had planned on heading to Indianapolis for a Charity Ride with Friends, then head to Niagra Falls for the night. Then we were going to take suggestions from this site and cross into Canada and follow the highway along the lakes. We planned to hit Maine and the rest of the northeastern states, working our way down to D.C.. From there, start heading west, back to Ohio to meet up with a good friend that has made me some White Lightning. he offered to put us up a few nights while we party & he shows me how to make the stuff. Once we left his place, we were to head home to Omaha. This trip would've left us only a few States left on our map. BUT.... The Army Corp of Engineers and Mother Nature couldn't come to an agreement this year and my home has been only a few feet from flooding since the beginning of June.I just heard yesterday that the Missouri River isn't planned to be back into it's banks until the end of September or October. - We don't want to be on the east coast if / when the Levy breaks. So, it looks like no Vacation again this year. That being said, if losing my Vacation is the worse that happens too me this year, I will still feel blessed. There are MANY people that have lost everything due to this flooding. Because of the MONTHS of the flooding, there is a lot of farmland that will take many years, if ever, to recover. Craigr
  23. We had a great time in Cody, met old and new friends alike! What a great bunch of folks. Had a few extra days off work so decided to head home to Missouri via South Dakota. Stopped in Custer and will be seeing Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, maybe head up to Spearfish and Sturgis. Leaving here Sunday early am, looking for the biggest ball of mud we can find!
  24. 9079.1 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-YQAveqpug&NR=1]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-YQAveqpug&NR=1[/ame] WAS LOOKING AT ROYAL STAR ON YOUTUBE AND THERE'S HUNDREDS OF LISTING ON THERE NOW. uses to go and only find a few on it. this video shows about 15-20 royals riding around germany and the poster has a few more of the same trip. looks like a royal ride-in european style!! got mine in 2001 and you couldn't find anything much about them anywhere, now the whole world knows about them. it's great to see so many other enjoying these great bikes, wish yamaha would step up and get their head out of their azzes and do the right thing and upgrade them to what they should be!!!
  25. I have a 93 Cougar v-6 needing a new head gasket, I'm an old scholl kid so when I see a kit with graphic head gaskets at the parts store I back off real slow... Like I said, I have no familiarity but always thought a good ole metal head gasket sealed well but also REALLY helped transfer that heat. And I still say aluminum heads are junk! Anyone have some real info on this variant? I know Ford offers the metal ones but they want my next born for them... but if that's the proper route...
