  1. Yes I know its been pounded like a nail but i wanted to let everyone know that i am know making and selling these kits, with hardware, minus the clamps for $40 shipped on eBay out of ALUMINUM! LINK : CLICKY CLICK CLICK I know this is a popular mod for you guys, and i did it on my bike, and i am impressed by the sound. I have been trying to fill the gaps between jobs and college by scrapping metal and fabricating truck racks, and i thought this might be a good opportunity for me. I put my best work into these, and sell them as if they were going on my bike. Thanks for taking the time.
  2. Well......I have to tell all I have departed for the Dark Side. My Sweet wife surprised me with a new ride. A 2010 Harley Ultra Classic Peace Officer Special Edition. Picked it up yesterday afternoon and rode it on my first ride today. I have really enjoyed the Venture and will miss is the the Harley is a sweet ride. I will be posting my 04 Venture on the For Sale Page at $6500 for any VentureRider.org member. It has 50,000 miles on it. It will be hard to part with because it has been such a sweet ride. If anyone is interested they can let me know and I will get back with them to answer any questions.
  3. Saw this link over on the Delphi fourm -RSV&RSTD. http://www.barnettharley.com/index.php/online-feature-bikes/item/2928-travertson-motorcycles-2700cc-v4 I would love to have this engine in a trike. Even if it is half Harley Larry
  4. I'm looking for a couple of those trunk latches used on a Harley trunk. Need both the latches and the hooks. Figured they'd be great for my trailer. Anyone got some? Could maybe even use the 1st gen (86-93) Yammi ones but the Harley ones are more compact in design. If I recall correctly, the Yammi ones there is one that is offset a bit so don't think that will work.
  5. Who has owned a Harley touring bike, and how do you like Harley compared to the venture? Would you go back to a Harley, or do you like the venture better?
  6. Here is a Harly Video I stumbled on ...enjoy!!! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izzlN2zC8PU]YouTube- Honest Harley Davidson Commercial[/ame] Brian This really is meant for fun for you guys that do own Harleys, i really dont trash them.......
  7. Well last friday I hauled my friends road king over to an independant dealer for him to trade his bike in on a springer. He had some shoulder problems and the king was to heavy of a bike so he traded. While he was doing the deal I looked over the used inventory and I hate to admit it but harley does make a nice bike. Just looked at the paint, chrome, and the bikes overall, and I must say alot better quality vs. the metric bikes. This morning I was cleaning up the venture for a possible ride today once the temps. got a little warmer and I was somewhat disappointed at the venture. Don't get me wrong, I like the venture, for power, reliabilty, and looks, still don't like the top heavy feeling when turning when riding two up. I can tell you if the economy was better and I had the coins, I would consider moving the venture, but I'm afraid my wife would have some issues with that to say the least, as she claims that's her bike. When we got home and unloaded the his bike I was offered a ride on the Harley, and I did like the sound and it handled nice and was manageable. Granted it was a springer, but I have ridden and ultra about two years ago and got the same positive experience, but with the price difference between the venture and a Harley that was the deciding factor. I can see why harley has a cult like following where as the metric rider's don't seem to have this. I mean on Sunday's around here the HD's dealers are open and appear to do a fair amount of buisiness, where as the metric dealer's are closed, so this metric guy ends up riding with the harley guys and eventualy end up at the HD dealers looking at all that eye candy, works on me at times. Sometimes I feel like Rodney Dangerfield, I get no respect! because I don't ride a HD, anyone else get the sme feeling at times?
  8. Will the Harley headset work on an 88 Venture? Or is the Harley 8 pin and Venture 5 pin?
  9. If Yamaha didn't make a RSV or RSTD. what would be your bike of choice? I think I would be riding a Harley Street Glide, if I could come up with the money or Kawasaki Voyager.
  10. Need som help finding some toys for the scoot.....been searching the site ,can't find the posts....someone posted they bought harley windshield pouches for their 2nd gen and they just stay in place by sliding in behind the windshield....harley has 2 such pouches...one with an even TAIL for 59.99 and one with a LONGER TAIL in the middle for 99.00...which one is it that works on the 2nd gen...? .....................2nd. question....who is the member who sells the light bar entensions...? I'm tired of removing my extra running lights every time I need to remove my faring....... 3rd question....hand pump for the shocks and forks...where can I order one from???
  11. Sometimes acting like a juvenile can get you in trouble. The other day I was riding down the highway at about 60mph when up ahead I saw a motorcycle that I was slowly gaining on. I was probably going abut 5mph faster than him, so I wasn't gaining that fast. I decided that when I got up fairly close behind him, I would just fall in line and follow to the next town. When I got close enough I could see it was a Harley and it was pretty new. So just as I got to the right spot and slowed down a little to keep pace behind him he saw me and after saying something to the girl on back (probably: "watch this") he twisted the throttle and took off. At first I thought "oh well, so what". Then a little voice (no doubt the devil) said "You know what?...You don't really want to play this game with me". So, being that it was a long straight stretch and no traffic, I dropped it down a gear and let loose. I was doing 95 as I blew past him and heard him drop a gear as I went past and throw the coals to it, but to no avail. There was zero chance he would be able to catch up, much less pass me. I was feeling pretty pleased with myself as I started back into the right hand lane, but right then, the bike started wobbling. The back wheel was kind of fishtailing back and forth and the handlebars was shaking. Scared the you-know-what out of me. Was picturing a hundred yard long red smear on the pavement. However, I ever so slowly eased off the throttle and by the time I was back down to about 85mph, it was riding normally. Good thing the air was warm and dry enough to evaporate all the sweat that was pouring off of me, otherwise, the folks behind me would have thought they had hit a sudden rain shower. Anyway, it was a stupid kid type thing to be doing and almost bit me in the butt. Feller my age should not do adolescent, immature stunts like that and you can bet I will think twice before doing it again. (OK, I've thought twice. I'm over it. Time to do it again the next time someone on a Harley tries that with me.) P.S. I used to own a Harley, and I know what they will and won't do. They are not the fastest thing on the blacktop.
  12. Was reading about Honda looking into buying out Harley Davidson when I came across this story in today's Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel about Harley stock rising and increased public trading in speculation of a takeover by KKR & Co. of Harley Davidson. http://www.jsonline.com/business/87811297.html
  13. I see ads all the time where there are a lot of Harleys for sale. My curiosity wants to know why. This will apply to PREVIOUS HARLEY OWNERS ONLY!! I don't want second hand info either. I don't want to know about the guy down the street or someone's brother-in-law who may have owned one. I think it would be interesting as to why people give up their Harleys. Is it because of money problems, the bike itself, service, maybe it was because of a death in the family, or whatever else? So, if you have previously owned a Harley and given it up for something else, tell us why. Personally, I've never owned one so this does not apply to me. We all have opinions, but to hear from the actual previous owners is the purpose of this survey. Above all else, THIS IS NOT ANOTHER HARLEY BASHING SESSION!!!!!!! If it turns to that , I'll ask Freebird to take it down!!!
  14. Anyone on here work in Crystal City, VA? I rode the bike into work Tuesday night and low and behold there was a RSV parked 4 spots down from mine on Crystal Drive Wednesday morning. It was still pretty dark outside so I couldn't tell the color. It was our 2 RSV's and about 6 Harley Electra Glides. I didn't realize the size difference in the two bikes until I saw the one parked beside mine. The Harley looked puny! If I don't get a reply on this, I am gonna put a flyer for VR.org on his bike if I see it again! Gotta get the word out right? Ben

    Bad news...

A guy i know was killed in a farm accident this weekend. Mike was 58 years old, he was caught in a grain bin and suffocated. It is a terrible tragedy, anybody who lives on, or grew up on a farm, knows how dangerous this can be. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Knoll family of Conde S.D. Mike was a good person, and had just taken delivery of a Harley trike last Friday. He took a quick spin down the road and back. His accident happened on saturday. Mike is survived by a wife, 3 daughters, and a Harley trike with 3 miles on it. At least he got to feel a little wind in his face. PEACE MIKE........
  16. Yesterday morning our CMA chapter had its monthly chapter meeting. We had noticed our dear brother Pastor Gary Laird was not present at the start of the meeting. Within 30 minutes we recieved word a biker on a white Harley was down near by and started praying. A few minutes later we were informed our brother was the victim and was killed instantly because a cager failed to pay attention and turned in front of Garys white 2007 Harley Ultra Classic. Gary was a very safe rider, he had full protective leather and a full helmet. Despite his best efforts to protect himself, the careless driver a 1984 Lincoln towncar (tank) stole the life of a worth while individual. No charges were made at the time and the crash was listed a under investigation. His wife, family, friends and church will deeply miss this man of God but so will the patients at the nearby hospice he volunteered at weekly, the orphanges he supported in Mexico will have an uncertain future and so many more community organizations now have a void. I was first saddened and then angered at the local paper giving Gary 5 small lines and yet a cager crash nearly a quarter of a page. When will we cease to be second hand citizens? Sorry guys, I just had to vent and you guys are good at listening.
  17. Some one here has a sense of humour... I rec'd a package an hour ago.... 19. Greetings, I am starting a rebuild on my 83 1st Gen, I've reviewed the exhaust threads on the website, Does anyone have model or part numbers for replacement exhaust's. MY original exhaust pipes are starting to rust out on the bottom. I'm not looking to sound like a Harley, but a little rumble would be nice. Here in MN, Metric guys are left in the dark since HD's are huge here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  20. Hi guys Dave from the UK, RSV rider since 05, bike 5yrs old now with 12000 miles on it. I see a lot of bikers over here with jackets covered in Harley stuff and i would like mine covered in Venture/Yamaha stuff. Cannot obtain much in UK they dont even sell the bikes over here, mines an import any help would be great. Dave ( UK )
  21. Just got back from the bike show at the Tradex in Abbotsford. Got a hand out from Best Western which promises special rates and points rewards, room upgrades etc, but only for Harley riders. It states that it is exclusively for Harley riders and is covered with Harley logos. I think I will contact them and express my displeasure at being excluded from this because I ride a Venture. bestwestern.com/h-devents. Other than that the show was good. Sat on the new/old Venture and Bilco came over. We talked about Neslon for a bit. I sat on the new V-MAX and it reminded me of my old Madura. Some very interesting custom bikes there.
  22. Over the holidays, I was in S. Florida and these trips usually involve my wife and her mother shopping while I try to catch football games and read a book/fall asleep a lot. I'm not into walking beaches or sunning. This year I did something I wanted to do, rented a 2010 Harley Electra Glide Ultra Classic. Have to say the folks at Naples HD were friendly even though my "bike" gear was a plain vest, my Evoline Shark helmet and jeans, not "Harley" gear like every other person there to rent a bike. I spent two days and put on about 600 miles. I now know why they call Florida, "Flatistan" sometimes. I now think my corn country is filled with lovely hills and valleys! But the roads are generally smooth and sight lines are long and there is some interesting stuff to look at like the dozens of Harley Davidson names stenciled or stuck on the bike everywhere I look. No doubting what I was riding. Weather was 78-80 highs both days, starting out in the low 50's so I dressed in layers and took them off as the day went on. Perfect riding weather actually. I got lucky, because the day after I took the bike back, the high was in the 60's and today it might hit 45? Rained the day after too. Like I say...lucky. About the Harley. I really wound up loving it. I was open minded, but ready to dislike the vibration, but my hands and feet never once got "tingly" and the seat was comfy. A good test of a bike (and rider) is to put on as many miles as you can one day, get some rest and then go out again. What remains sore is telling you what is wrong. Well, nothing remained sore, and the second day was as glorious as the first with the added benefit of my wife going with me the second day (she normally won't ride, preferring to be on her own bike!) but she was happy in about 2 hours of riding, the longest she has spent on the 2nd seat with me ever! She said the Harley had much more room and was more comfortable than the passenger area of my '86 Venture Royale. The Harley had plenty of power, and the vibration was only noticeable at idle, and I got used to it. One big problem: heat. at just 80 degrees, stop and go traffic had me looking for longer legs to get away from the engine. I can imagine that 90+ degree days will get worse, and I know why so many parade Harleys have fans pulling air away from the engine. I also developed a "Harley tilt" to my right foot/ankle to get a precious 1/2" more air between my right calf and the engine. Left side didn't seem to have the same problem, because the exhaust isn't there. Bags were a lot smaller than my Venture Royale, but the top case was nice. I got used to the bar mounted fairing and that was a surprise. I wouldn't consider a fairing like that before, but will now. I rented the HD because I am considering a replacement for the VR when it wears out. Would be nice to have a new bike for once (never had a new one) before my riding days are over. The Harley is now on my short list. Next I want to ride a new Voyager, and possibly get some miles on a BMW K1200LT. Be nice if Yamaha would update the Venture and give me another choice. But now that I am willing to consider a bar mounted fairing and the V style look doesn't bother me as much, maybe I should reconsider the current Venture because I love my V4! Anyway, I liked the Harley a lot more than I thought I would.
  23. Has anyone tried the split mirrors? The ebay link below shows an example of what I am talking about. So far I have only found them to fit a Harley. It seems like it would add a lot of extra viewing area. Has anyone mounted a Harley fitting mirror on their RSV? What is necessary to make the conversion? These mirrors do not appear to have any Harley branding on them so it wouldn't cause any goofy questions or comments. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350270020543&_trksid=p2759.l1259 Merry Christmas to all
  24. When I sold my Harley and Got my RSTD (which I love-a much better machine than the Harley) I got to say, that the sixth gear on the Harley was a true overdrive. With my RSTD I find myself in fifth doing around 45 or so. I wish I had a tack so I can see the RPM's. So why not a real over drive. Does any of the Japanesse bike have it? Markr:240:
  25. In the last month I have been to four motorcycle dealers in Minnesota. Harley Honda Kawasaki Yamaha. Harley was the only dealer to any touring bikes on hand. The Yamaha dealer had new 07's setting there.
