  1. Whats a reasonable price to pay for some Harley pipes and what does the bracket for mounting them to my venture sell for
  2. One of my high school friends is selling his goldwing and harley softail to get a venture. We ride together but he has never ridden my venture. I told him he was welcome to ride my venture anytime. He came by yesterday with his wife and wanted to drive my venture. He had the harley softail on his trailer and asked if I would like to ride it along with them. I thought sure, so we rode for about 20 or 25 miles and came home. He was pleased with my venture and is definately going to by one. The harley softail is one of the worst bikes I have ever ridden in my life. It vibrated so bad at 60mph that all you can see in the rear view mirror is a streak. When I got off my back was hurting, I felt like I had been punched in my side and the skin was off my right big toe from shifting gears. This morning my lower right back is so sore I can't bend over. I'm sure the road king and ultra are better riders but I don't see how anyone can ride a softail. By the way, how did they come up with a name like softail. It should be called hardtail.
  3. Trying to make an adapter to use Harley Headsets on my bike but I need to know what the voltage is for the mic preamp in the Harley headset. Anyone know this or willing to check pins one and four on their late model Harley for me?
  4. Pegscraper brought this up on another thread and I thought this would be a good discussion. In 2010 it looks like there couls be a totally new redesign for the Venture. Speculation is that at its heart will be the new V-Max engine in some form of detune , probably with strong low and mid range. The V-max engine is Fuel Injected. The question is will it reall make the engine and bike more effecient or is carburetor technlogy still viable? I used to work for Delphi where we delevoped the Efi for Harley. All indications so far are that the Harley engine start quicker with no warm up neccesary and that the engines actually run smoother and have better throttle response. Plus new Fly-by-wire technology is all the rage F.I .is needed to go to that step. ? What do you think?
  5. Is anyone here running the new Truck-Lite Phase 7 headlamps? I admit to be unsure if they will fit the second gen. They are 7" round. Here is a review (first link) for Harley installs. Anyone running these? 25watts of LED brightness without the problem of hiding ballast. Dave
  6. off of work for two-three weeks so i'll be asking alot of questions.on the harley light bar hd-68280-97b,has anyone switched to led bulbs and if so what all dose it involve?
  7. :)Man I never paid attension to how much HD bashin going on around here. I start out every Monday with one feeling and I got it hurt already . Now I would like to know how many guys have rode a Harley from the last couple of years and can give an opinion . If you havent, and have an opinion you must just be Venturerider brain washed.
  8. City found another way to increase their budget.
  9. I travel a lot for business and am trying to fit a day in before or after business for a ride where possible and theres no shortage of my business pals willing to take a customer out for a "business event"! I wish someone would visit me in Long Island so I could return the favor ! Anyway, picked up a Harley Ultra Glide the past Monday. This my 2nd time on a Harley. There's a lot I like about it, plenty I don't but I have to say Harley instils a mind set I don't get on my venture and I was digging it but not enough to switch. Rode out to Canyon Lake to a place called Tortilla Flats, an hour or so east of Phoenix. Anyone local over there knows what a beautiful crazy ride that one road to Tortilla Flats is. Did a lot of riding around Superstition Mountain and a few more lake areas. Fantastic region.....and the weather this time of year is perfect. Have another ride planned for the fall, going north of Phoenix this time, Sedona, Red Rocks, etc. I'm trying to learn my new Nikon DLSR, not succeeding but heres a few pics from the trip https://picasaweb.google.com/ablumny/ArizonaRideFeb2012?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCMLEi4vCgv7yDQ&feat=directlink
  10. I am working on a friends 98 Harley 1200 Sportster. It runs descent cold but as it warms it starts to backfire through the carburetor and the tail pipe. It acts like it is starving for fuel but I know it is getting fuel. I have replaced the coils with known good coils but still the same thing. Has anyone had this problem before? I know this is not a Harley forum but I need some help on this one. Thank you,,,
  11. just wanted to stop in and wish everyone a VERRY VERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a happy new year. i will be heading out to my sister and brother-inlaws house i got a nuce gift in the mail from the daughter and son-inlaw. i keep telling them i ride a yamaha. but the son-inlaw works at a harley dealer in brainerd MN and loved to send me harley sweat shirts? and a hoodie. some one paid off the loan i still had on the motorcycle? so i have the title now and one less bill to pay. now if i get the darn car paid off. next year should be ok. there are pepole i want to see in ohio next year.
  12. Ok I have always wondered if I made the best choice when I bought my Venture. My Harley friends are pretty adamant on the superiority of the Harley experience. So I have always had this nagging question. Would I have been happier with a Harly Ultra Glide Classic or some such thing? Do the Harleys really handle much better at parking lot speeds? For sure more accessories are available for Harleys. And the Harley is fuel injected. Well yesterday I spent some time riding an Ultra Classic and all I can say is WOW. There is no way I would trade my Venture for a Harley. I like the handling on my Venture better than the Harley at any speed. So the question for me has been asked and answered. The Venture was and still is my best choice. Mike
  13. I'm on my second new style Venture and have over 185k combined miles on them. In October I went on a yearly ride to Winchester Speedway with my friends from Jackass Flats. We get to put all the bikes on the track,a high banked blacktop 1/2 mile, and have at it for 8-10 laps and get to repeat a few times too! What a blast to let the Venture blow past my Harley friends. Anyway after 3 outings on that day running in 3rd gear wide open and hitting the rev limits on the straights I thought my power was falling....or was the speed deceiving me? As we left the track in a group of 50 bikes I was sure my bike was noisey and power was down. At a traffic light I told my buddy what was going on and he said my bike was sounding noisey. I felt each pipe and all 4 were firing. When we reached the next stop I was concerned but with all the Harley guys talking about how good my bike sounded blowing past them and saying they had a new respect for my Venture. It felt and sounded better but still not right until we had rode about 50 miles at normal speeds. Then in a good place for it one of my friends with a 2010 Harley Ultra Classic Limited hit it hard and started around me and it was ON then! My bike ran great and while he was trying to shift gears on his Harley I was banging gears like a Yamaha dirt bike and it ran great! I don't know for sure but I'm thinking I bleed the lifters dry or something and I had problems until they pumped back up.....I have rode it over 1000 miles after that and it's not noisey and runs great as usual! Can anyone tell me what happened?
  14. if you know some one with this year and make please tell them dont want anyone getting hurt no matter what they ride. DETROIT (AP) - Harley-Davidson Inc. is recalling about 308,000 motorcycles to fix a switch problem that can cause failure of the brake lights and possibly even the rear brakes themselves. The company said in documents filed last week with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that brake light switches can be exposed to too much heat from the exhaust system. The heat can cause the brake lights to fail, and the problem also can cause fluid leaks and the loss of rear brakes, the documents said. The problem affects Touring, CVO Touring and Trike motorcycles from the 2009 through 2012 model years. They were built between June 6, 2008 and Sept. 16, 2011. Harley says it will notify owners of the recall. Dealers will install a rear brake light switch kit free of charge. The recall affects about 251,000 motorcycles in the U.S. alone, with the balance in other countries. Harley said it noticed the problem in June of 2010 when it got a report of a Trike model motorcycle that lost its rear brakes due to the problem. The company began investigating, and in July of 2010, it sent investigators to a dealership in Louisiana to inspect another bike that was involved in a crash. Harley has not determined yet if the problem caused the Louisiana crash, which injured one person, company spokeswoman Maripat Blankenheim said Monday. She did not know how seriously the person was hurt, but said Harley is not aware of any other crashes or injuries. Harley said in the documents that there have been no more reports of the problem occurring since July of 2010. The company also said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it expects the recall to cost $10 million to $12 million, which will be charged as an expense in the fourth quarter. Shares of Harley-Davidson rose $1.22, or 3.2 percent, to $38.82 in afternoon trading Monday. Copyright 2011 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. 15. My Harley Rideing buddy decided to pull the trigger also after dropping his Harley last week [/img]http://tinypic.com/m/f1mlo9/1
  16. Just for grins, how many own Harleys here? I do!
  17. While heading along the 401 to Guelph a piece of metal came out from under a car. Despite my efforts to avoid it, my front tire caught the edge of that crazy bouncing piece of metal. I got off at HWY 6 and I pulled off to inspect my tire to make sure I had no major concerns. While inspecting my front tire two Harley riders pulled off the road to see if I needed any help. I thought that was real kind of them., and wanted to mention it given the negative comments they sometimes get.
  18. Found this on another site.... funny! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5mRu9ZNlto]Herb Dixon - CLEAN COMEDIAN -"Harley Davidson' - YouTube[/ame]
  19. E Bay had a set of Venture tour pack brackets / support frames so I just purchased these. I have purchased an aftermarket, Harley style tour pack to do on it. Has anyone done this combination and what about height for the back cushion? My wife is about 5'5" and I would like to get the trunk painted to match and get it all installed by Christmas as a surprise. Any insight from experienced folks would be appreciated. Thanks.
  20. I know I'm gonna get raked over the coals for this, but I have, for good and bad reasons been a HD person. I liked the MK2 Venture for it's power and comfort, but I have a long history with HD and this will be the last one I will own. I found a REALLY clean 99 FLHP cop bike (yeah, it's WHITE) and got a good trade in for the Royale for it, so I bought it. I will at least maintain my membership here for the remainder of the time and maybe longer. What the heck the people here are great and have helped me a LOT with the Venture. Saved me a ton of money! Thanks guys! I really appreciate your help. I have skills enough to handle repairs on the Harley, ya know they ain't that complicated! I will be around for the time being though. Thanks to all of you again! Too many to mention, but as I said, a great place to belong to. Thanks. Okay, go ahead all you Harley bashers, I can take it!
  21. OK,this is NOT Harley bashing but we have all seen some of this scenerio in our travels...Hope its OK to post as it has a few Shi%% words in it..I saw it on my Facebook page [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1A3b_MRimbk&feature=player_embedded]Motorcycle Advice: Harley Davidson Rider Gives a New Biker Some Tips - YouTube[/ame]
  22. Hi there ive just got a lovely pair of harley Roadking fishtails . Ive made my brackets but cant seem to find any bolts that fit the rear mounts . Does anyone know what thread and size i need . Cheers Edge
  23. I wanted to express my sincere thanks to B2dad, B2mom, and Rick & Shirley Haywood. On the way to Vogel I had trouble with the trike [apparently its an issue with how it was built] and we ended up all sitting on the highway split, in the heat for quite some time. I have road side assist with Harley -- but it only applies in Oz! Rick rang his tow company, and they sent a truck to pick up my trike and get it in to H-D Chattanooga. These good VR folk stayed with us till they knew we would get back on the road And they are good people at Harley too, worked hard to get me back on the road. Thanks again
  24. There are a large number of very attractive Harley Davidson after market taillights / turn signals on the market. Is the contour of the RSTD rear fender adequate for adapting one of these sets? Does anyone have photos?
  25. Hello Everyone: Following in the foots steps of a few other RSTD owners. I recently finished installing a Harley Tour Pack on my 2005 RSTD. I had it painted to match the raven black color of our bike. I wired up the tail, running and brake lights last night. I was pleased with my first DMY trunk however we really wanted something a little bigger. I bolted the Harley Trunk directly to my Wompus rack and my wife was satisfied with the height. I have pictures but have not had good luck up loading them to the website the past few weeks. I have tried resizing them, but no luck yet. We are looking forward to the Cody Rally!!!
