  1. Finally got the nerve to take a jigsaw to the stock windshield that came on the V Star, that sucker was 23 inches tall, now its just a tad over 19 inches tall, looks much better, and now I can see over it. Wasn't to hard to do, just had to take it slow and easy. I need to thank :thumbsup:Lowell and Steve Wagner for the tips on how to do it. I will be leaving it on for the ride to Memphis.
  2. There seem to be quite a few posts on this site where the title really gives one no clue as to what the poster is going to say or wants. If I'm in a hurry, and skimming for posts that are most relevant to me, I may miss something. Likewise, after a period of time, if I'm looking for a thread that contained something I needed, it may be hard to locate based on a generically worded title. M&E's even in the planning stages should contain the location and dates. Requests for mechanical help should contain the model of MC in question. And so on. Thank you. End of sermon.
  3. I need to find out about a Reverse Gear For A 1986 Venture Royale Trike. I am disabled in my right leg and find it really hard to back up without getting off and pushing it back.
  4. finally got computer working and uploaded pics sorry for delay ...great time had by all...kudos to bigtom/taters for all their hard work...thanks to folks at pioneer for all they did.
  5. Yesterday I bushed my 05 RSTD in and out from my driveway and it felt hard. The bike is stiffer rolling wise. Today after my ride doing 45km yesterday it was harder to do the same thing so I parked it and had taken my ladies bike to were I had to go (my mums) I have just now jacked up the bike thinking it mite be the bearings in the wheels but they are rolling ok the but brakes are scrapping. But now it is raining.:250:And yesterday too Has some one have a thought from there it may be coming from. Or am I just getting weaker in my legs
  6. I've found that SPOT is offering a rebate which is good for a free unit when you sign up for 2 years of service. I've had a modest interest in one of these units for some time and this rebate is about to push me over the edge. However, the reviews I've been reading online tonight about the SPOT service don't look too favorable but it is hard to tell if people are using the unit properly. Does anyone here have personal experience with the SPOT system and if so, what are your thoughts? Thanks, Dennis
  7. I want to thank everyone for their support and prayers. I don't say much on here, I leave that to Cindy! Maybe when we get another computer I will be able to say more. Lol I just wanted to say THANKS! I have a strong wife and daughter and that's the reason this went so well. By Haylie telling mommy right away was a HUGE thing. Then Cindy handling it the way she did saved me from prison. And I want to say I am sorry for the way I talked to her for calling the police first. She did good I was just very angry at the time. I love you Cindy and I am sorry! And thank god Cindy called BACA! They have been so good to Haylie and good for all of us. Their presents makes Haylie so happy and Cindy and I enjoy them as well. I am positive Cindy and I will be members as soon as they will allow us. This past year has been very hard on our family, emotionally, physically and financially. But now we can work on the healing process. The hardest thing I have to deal with since the day it happened and it tears me up inside is knowing that I wasn't there to save my little girl! Thank you EVERYONE! Dale
  8. Today my wife sent me this picture that she took at a stop light.. Hard to see but this person is on a scooter at a red light. He was barley able to balance it to start with, but whats hard to see is he is talking on a cell phone... Yep on a cell phone can you say stupid!!! At least in my thoughts.. she tells me that when the light turned green he didnt hang up just turned and then kept talking.. even though it is a scooter i just had to put this on here to see what kinda comments it gets
  9. My desk top fried the power supply. New one installed and it booted ok. 1 week of security uploads (automatic) and on restart windows loads (win 2000 pro) then freezes when IE starts. On restart (hard reboot) Error message... cannot find winnt\system32\drivers\isapnp.sys . When I try to recover with the win2000 cd it wants a boot disk A: I cant find it ( how long since you used a floppy disk). I have a external HD Western digital hard drive for a back up . I got a command prompt and got to the drive but can not open the recovery file. A long time since DOS and was not too good then. Can any one help me out. I have some work stuff that is not backed up and don't want to loose those files. I am useing my OLD laptop but it will die soon. Thanks for any help. Rod
  10. I guy about 2 miles from my house has a 1976 GL1000 Goldwing he will sell for $150.00. I looked at the bike and it has Vetter faring and hard bags. Faring and bags are white and rest of bike red. Has the chrome guard rails around the hard bags. Like a lot of people up here he lost his job and moved to a house with no garage. He has a 71 Harley and a 79 CX500 and no money or room to do anything with the wing. Bike has been setting outside under a plastic tarp. Engine is free (not frozen up) I has no idea that 76 also had a kick start on them. Lots of surface rust on chrome and winshied broken. Left front fork tube would need to be replaced. Would also make a great parts bike. If I had a garage I would buy it. But all he wants is $150.00 and someone to come and get it. If interested PM me and I will give you my phone number and answer your questions.
  11. I'm a big gearhead. changing the engine in a car is not hard for me. Even changing to an engine that is not supposed to be in there is only moderately hard for me. I have a nice tiny IHI RHB31 turbo sitting here that would fit nicely on the 1st gen venture. Has anyone ever tried turboing a venture or Vmax?
  12. I see a lot of talk about how hard the Corbin seat is but I have not read anything about if it is comfortable or not. I'm a little confused I guess because if the Corbin is so hard why do you see so many Ventures with Corbin seats? I'm so confused.
  13. does anyone have a pic or diagram showing where the oil site glass is on an older Goldwing? I am trying to explain it to a co-worker and he has looked and can't find it. Unfortunately he didn't ride in today so I could actually take him out to the lot and show him. I know it's hard to find, so thought a pic would help. Thanks for any help.
  14. okay group it's time to get back to work. the 09 rally date is coming up fast. check in on the private site and let me know where we are at on your special assignments. i think i have all my ducks in a row. so if any one needs any help give me a holler. need to get going on the vendors, and a possible bike part flea market area. also entertainment. the big assignment for everyone that is planning on attending is getting registered and throwing us any ideas that you have to make this a better meet. also any one that wants to donate something for the drawing pm me, roadkill, or dooder1. looking forward to this one and really want to see a bunch of new and old faces there. for those that can't decide, i will garrantee there is some of the most awesome riding and beautiful country in the usa as soon as you pull out of the hub. not to mention a great bunch of venture riders will be there to share the great times with including ole snarley bill, and my great commiitee. :rotf:we are all working hard to make this a memorable event for everyone that attends.

    Inspiration

Been gone from the site for a while, computer crapped out on me and I have been busy busy busy. I haven't gotten very far on the 84, and she is sitting all dejected, and lonesome. The ol XS is running strong and it is hard to get in the restoring mood during the good weather and such. I guess I need inspiration, you guys got any for sale?
  16. To all RSV and ventures riders. I have changed my rear brakes 6 times and 2 times in the front and found out that in the reat the inner pad wears out quicker than the outer pad. (has to do with the hydrolics) So now I change the pads from the left to the right (swap them over) after some riding (AND WITCH IT DOESN'T TAKE LONG TO DO ABOUT 15 MINUTES ) So when I do check them, i swap them over, but only if they need it. It depends on the thickness whether or not it needs to. But I always scrub them in by hitting the rear hard for the first couple of times. With riding in the Adelaide hills almost every Sunday (hard) I have not lost the rear brake at a sharp bend (so far) I have done just over 60,000 km
  17. Today, I heard a bunch of bikes outside, and when I looked, there were motorcycle troopers leading 2 buses full of Ft. Campbell soldiers coming back home. They were followed by about 50 riders, and several cars, all displaying flags. It was pouring rain...hard...really hard. I am sure they were Patriot Guard members. I have thought about joining the Patriot Guard for some time now, and I know there are several members on here. Could one of you hook me up with a number and name of a chapter that is close to me in West Tennessee? I would REALLY appreciate it. Us Vets like to take care of each other. Thanks in advance. Patrick
  18. I installed a garmin 2720 in my bike recently and am having a hard time seeing it in the sunlight..Tried moving it to different locations to no avail..I know there are sun hoods I can purchase..Other than that ..any suggestions out there to relieve the problem..and yes, I tried the brightness adjustment on the garmin.. It didn't help..any suggestions?
  19. When I bought my bike a few years ago It had the Corbin seat on it. Still does but it is wicked hard. I was gonna have it refoamed and Buddyrich sent me a temp seat he selling but never got around to sending mine out as Corbin and the dealer that was helping me never got together as to if they could help me. Part of this was because the dealer tried to screw me on my Clutch basket but telling me I need a brand new clutch that had been changed a month before. So the seat never got done and my butt still hurts. I have decided to try again. My plans to maybe persue a 09 Ultra are on hold for right now for how long I dont know but I decided to see on my own in Corbin can help me. I have been told that in these cases they will refoam a seat with a softer foam (Less Dense) so that the seat is more comfortable. I decided to ask if they would consider doing this under warranty as it has always been like sitting on a brick. The shape is great but hard as hell!!! I will keep you posted as the "Case of the Monkey Butt Seat" continues!
  20. OK...here's the continuation of my Christmas Story. As I mentioned in another post yesterday, my wife bought me a TomTom Rider 2 for Christmas. She was so excited that she had surprised me with something that I had wanted (a GPS) for a while now. The problem was, I spent all day yesterday messing with it and could NOT get it to power up. Then I got an email from BradT telling me that another member here had bought the same unit and that he had to hold the power button in HARD to get it to power on. So after reading his email this morning I took it out of the box again and pushed the button VERY HARD and sure enough, it came on in about 2 seconds. All is well. I then played with it for about 30 minutes but pretty much already knew that I was going to return it. The problem is that the TomTom Rider does not have an audio out jack or a built in speaker. The only way to use the voice prompts is to use the included bluetooth headset. That means that not only would I have to buy my wife a bluetooth headset but then some sort of hardware to convert the existing audion system of the RSV to bluetooth in order to use the headsets for the intercom, sterieo, etc. I think that TomTom really missed the mark with this setup. I ended up heading to Best Buy about 10:00 this morning to return the unit. The nice young lady asked me if there was anything wrong with it and I said well the main thing is that it's just not compatible with my bike. She then informed me that there would be a 15% "restocking" fee. I said are you telling me that it is going to cost me about $85.00 to return this product. She replied yes, all the stores do that. I said NO...Walmart doesn't. At any rate, I then asked her what the policy is if the unit is bad and she replied that there would be no restocking fee in that case. I said OK then....I can't get it to turn on. She said that she would have to test it and verify that fact to which I replied...PLEASE...do that now. She took it out of the box and pressed the power button and sure enough, it wouldn't turn on. She took out the AC Adapter and plugged it in and again...it would not turn on. I didn't tell her to press very hard on the button. She shrugged and said hmmmmm.....it must be defective and then gave me a full refund. I'm sure glad that TomTom makes them hard to power up. So now I'm on the fence. I'm trying to decide between the Garmin Zumo 550 and the 450. I know that the popular choice here is the 550 but after comparing them, I don't know that I can justify the extra $300.00. I don't want the XM capabilities and the only other thing that I see is text to voice. Am I missing anything?
  21. Just watched the weather and it is supposed to be 74 degrees here tomorrow and I have nothing that I have to do or anywhere I have to be. Looks like a great day for a ride. Hard to believe it is December.
  22. Does anyone know if it is hard to switch from 84 to 86 hard bags ? TOM
  23. We had a large group out of Slidell Louisiana heading up to Natchez MS Saturday to ride part of the trace. Right outside of Columbia MS in a hard right hand turn across some RR tracks the rear got a little squirrly. I had my choice of hitting a RR crossing sign, a culvert or a patch of wet dirt. Went for the dirt and the bike laid down and immediately came to a stop, unfortunately the wife didn't and came over my back. I hit the edge of the road pretty hard and the wife didn't hit hard but twisted her already chronic back. We're ok, a lot of bruises, but I can surely testify to the advantage of leather and helmets. My jacket tore in half and the right side of my helmet is flat from scraping the concrete road. Witnesses said that we were moving about 10mph when all of this happened !! The adjuster is coming out tomorrow and basically the entire right side of the bike needs attention. I may be in the market for parts. After seeing the damage to the leather and helmet, I can only imagine how bad it could have been if we were not wearing the proper riding gear.
  24. Thank you, to all of you, for all your support and prayer's. It is after our set deadline and I still have not heard from im. I have contact our dispatcher, to see if he could locate him on the qualcom yet, however, no answer. I'm clued to the phone but I also have to bring my load back to Minneapolis. It is kind of hard to concentrate on driving at the moment. Will let you know as soon I hear anything. Again, thanks to all. Renate
  25. Went for a ride the other day and when I got home and started to gather my belongings I went to open the trunk and it went up 1/2 way. I gave it a reasonable pull but it didn't seem to want to budge? Anyone have any experience with this. I haven't tried too hard yet but if somone has a short cut fix I will not be offended;) Thanks in advance Mark
