  1. so after much analyzing , ive come to the conclusion that my the carbs on my 98 need to be synchronized...is it a hard task?? or am I better off taking it to a shop ?? how much would a shop charge for that?? thanks
  2. Autumn of 2004 I traded my 1984 Venture Royale to Hacker's in Houghton Lake, MI. I think they did the 2nd gear repair and fixed an oil leak issue before they resold it sometime summer of 2005. I'm curious if anyone here may have been the buyer. Since I've joined I have found that some of you will look long and hard to find a particular 1st or 2nd gen. bike. I just thought that if someone here got it, it would be nice to know where it went. Mel:Venture:
  3. I've been waiting and hoping i could retrieve some information of my crashed hard drive, it would have been nice anyway since the back up got chewed up as well... But, alas, no such luck so i'm getting ready to bite the bullet and start entering two months worth of stuff into my old 'puter. First though I wanted to upgrade my virus protection which meant removing Norton and installing something better. Great idea!! One problem, it calls for a re-start, 'xcept it didn't:doh:. So of to the puter guru, I get there and discover my 2 wheel wheelbarrow is gone from the truck, i suppose it fell off on the way over there:confused07::confused07:, but if'n it did, I sure didn't notice and I didn't see it on the side of the road going home. Then I learn the second hard drive has gone to h3ll:bang head::bang head: The puter guy said he thinks that he will be able to retrieve info from this one though:o Somebody shoot me!!
  4. Ok.....I'm at that point. Got all my other stuff done and pulled the valve covers to replace the seals and gaskets due to a seep on the rear head and check the valve lash. Thought I was being the bright guy and removed the "hard" one first. The front. Only had to remove the bolts from the radiator and pull it ahead a bit. Pretty much slid out except for a little drag across the chain sprockets. Then the "easy" one....the rear.....oh yeah! Not so easy. Hung up pretty good on the sprockets and was a bear to work out of there. (Should have done this when I had the gas tank out) Now I got the covers all cleaned up.....got the 2nd gen gaskets sealed into the covers....got all 16 of the plugs on the bolts replaced. So.....any advice on what else I can do to give myself a little more room to work the covers back into place without scraping the gaskets back off? Bike is naked.....fuel line and overflow lines are out of the way. Do I need to pull the coolant lines to the heads? Maybe take the coolant hose off the top of the radiator to give me more room? Suggestion? Just trying to avoid a fist fight with my sweety. She does give me a hard time now and then. LOL! Thanks Mike
  5. Hi guys, I just finished watching the Ride like a Pro DVD (soon to watch the Deal's Gap DVD =) And yeah, interesting concepts and a lot of what I already know but to watch them do it, the verbal reinforcement helps as well.. "However".. They're using lower centre of gravity Harleys with better low end grunt on them which must make it much easier to do the dips and turns etc. The ONE issue I have with my bike when doing the advance maneuvers is that I honestly feel the bike will fold up on itself with the steering locked in tight and causing the bike to drop.. Though they say "rear brake and power" will stand the bike up, I always feel like it's going to force the forks over hard and lock it up causing the fall.. you know what I mean? Then I see in their video later on where they say "these techniques work for all kinds of bikes" and show the various bike.. Yeah, nice Harleys, dipping down deep scrapping their boards blah blah.. then a Goldwing.. then a Valkyrie and then.. A 2nd Gen Venture dipping down hard and over negotiating a proper dip and turn.. HUH! My bike is tuned up properly.. Lowering links, risers, even pressure in the forks, good shock in the rear and newish tires, proper inflation but yet when I do those turns, I really feel like I'm going to lock it up to the inside of the turn and drop the bike.. I know it would be hard to point out what's what without seeing or being there, what's the trick with our type of bike? A month or so before we can get our bikes out around here.. I really want to hone up the skills for this season.. I can do all those exercises on a VStar, but still struggling with the sharper turns on the Venture.. (paraphrasing a quote from the video: After 20 years of riding a motorcycle, I thought I had 20 years of experience riding a motorcycle but in reality all I had was one year of riding experience repeated 20 times, doing the same mistakes over and over again, until I learned how to ride a motorcycle properly.. ) Makes sense..
  6. I'm looking for help/info with regard to external hard drive back ups. I want to get something & a program that I can download a back up from a different location. Confusing ? yep - Here's what I want to do; I will have a computer in a building apart from my home and across town. There will be people cataloging information/pictures on that computer. At the end of the day I want to back up that information on an external hard drive which will be located at my home. The reason for this particular action is many but foremost is in case of fire/theft or any other unforeseen act. Thanks for any help. Dick
  7. just wanted to say thank you. tonight in chat Iwas in a dark place. Been there a while and being the male that I am refused to face it and let a feew tears roll. Without even nowing it you opened me up to things that kneeded to be released. Please excuse the typos as its kinda hard to see through blurry eyes. Tahnk oyu from the bottom of my heart. David
  8. I have a 2nd gen with a sidecar so mounting the horn on the right side is out of the question, even though my wife is hard of hearing.Has anyone mounted the horn on the left side or somewhere else?Pix sure would be nice.
  9. Ok, I have posted about this problem before and got some recommendations from adjusting the shift linkage to the type of shoes I'm wearing (??). Well, I have adjusted the linkage every which way possible with no improvement in the bad up-shifting. I've had a number of 1st Editions(6) and never had one like this. There has got to be something else causing the hard upshifting. I've just got in a complete clutch rebuild kit from Buckeye and am prepared to install new friction plates, new diaphram spring, etc., but I don't think that will help either. I am now thinking I may have a dowel pin problem (loose and/or just not fitting properly) in the shift cam. Does anyone think replacing part 6 and 8 in the microfiche will help? Just in case it comes up....rebuilt the m/c, installed new slave and no air in the line.
  10. When I 1st got it, I could see icons for restaurants, gas stations, etc...on the map while I was driving. When I called Garmin on my issue, they had me to a hard reset so now all that is gone. Any ideas on how to get them back? Looked at the manual and doesn't seem to help. Thanks.
  11. Why most of you Die Hard 2nd generation switch to the Goldwing???
  12. It is 77F here, and not a cloud in the sky. A tad breezy, but riding without heavy gear and feeling warm is so nice. Sat on the cafe's patio, had a great burger and something hoppy. You could tell everyone was enjoying Global Warming... so many smiles, and so many short skirts. But, I had an appointment to see the doctor on my day off. 1:45PM. Just the right time to prevent a nice "there and back" ride today. I called at 12:30, because I wasn't sure if it was 1:30 or 1:45, and learned they'd set me up with the doctor I disliked. We rescheduled for Monday. So I missed a good long ride for nothing. Coulda put on 500 miles today instead of 150. Still, it's hard to complain about 150 miles in the most perfect weather you are likely to see, in January. Thanks for listening. Hope it's just as nice where you are. Dave
  13. Hello, having a great time on my new 07 RSMV. I use to ride a 920 Virago with back rest and saddle bags. My wife finds the new bike so comfortable that she is having a hard time to stay awake. Does anyone else have this problem? If so have they been able to stay seated upright?

  15. Its hard to believe that someone out there doesn't make a valve tool for our bikes at a reasonable cost. If there is someone or someplace I would like to know. The just atv site has been said to look questionable and I agree. Has anyone bought from them? With no phone number listed to call them to check if they have any in stock. I am reluctant to place a order. If I was a machinist I think there could be some money to be made by making them and if nothing else selling them on this site.
  16. Your input check this out on E-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-Honda-Valkyrie-INTERSTATE-MINT-RARE-Condition_W0QQitemZ170424457174QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_motorcycles?hash=item27ae16d7d6 Is it worth it?????
  17. Got the wobble on the way to work this morning at 76 mph (GPS indicated). Slowed down to 65 and the wobble subsided. Temp was 34 degrees and air pressure in tire is at 35 psi. I'll try different air pressures to see if that will take care of the problem. I work hard trying to make BabyDoll weathy, but I don' want to make her wealthy and a widow at the same time. Glenn
  18. I need some info from a real savvy computer person as my knowledge of the inner working of a PC are rather limited. Heres the situation: my original hard drive © was almost out of space. Its from a 2000 Dell PC with 1 G of ram (2 512 sticks), 4500 model I think with an 18.62 gb hard drive. A while ago my son-in-law installed a 233gb hard drive (E) in series with C drive, however I was never able to move stuff back and forth. I tried moving a large music library over from C to E but ended up losing the whole file. What I would like to do if its possible is to transfer my whole C drive contents over to the E drive, then remove the C drive and install the E drive back into the C connection, eliminating having two hard drives completely. Local PC store wants over 100 bucks to do this. Any suggestions? My music file has over 2000 songs so using a zip drive may not work. Keep it at the 5th grade level and ill be fine...LOL:think:

  23. I know this has been asked before, but for the life of me I can't find the right threads & posts. Did the search...no joy! Would anyone be so kind as to recommend a brand of brake pads for my '98 RSTD and a retailer or two where I can get them at the best prices. I don't play canyon racer wannabe or anything like that (not like we actually have canyons around here anyway) and I am generally not hard on brakes at all, so they won't have to be some special race capable part. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have a source or two for rotors, while we're at it, just in case! Thanks in advance...
  24. As many of you know, I'm a computer tech....been in the biz for 22 years and last night and this morning have been the worst experience I've ever had ... thought I'd share it coz no matter how bad something is... there's bound to be humour in it. Sunday my son brings his computer over to me to fix. It boots up with the "Blue Screen of Death" with the message UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. No biggie...been there, done that and I had it fixed in 20 minutes. Last night I planned to take it over to his house... me and Nina would go for a ride on the scoot. I set the computer on the trunk rack...looks pretty stable... then walked away to grab some bungee cords and......OMG!!! it's sliding off!!! and before I could do anything it crashed to the floor breaking the case open, plastic front panel smashed to pieces... OH NO!!!... Take it upstairs and plug it all in.... nothing! ... nada... zip ... it has power but nothing comes up on the monitor..nothing at all. Neither the monitor light or the CPU light turn green like they normally do and the hard drive just clicks once but doesn't spin up. No bout a doubt it...the motherboard is shot! Ok, so I bring his hard drive in to work this morning to test it out on one of the PC's here... I open up one of the computers here and unplug the hard drive...then plug the hard drive from my son's machine in and set the hard drive on top of the corner of the open CPU box.. then I reach back to plug the power cord in and bump the hard drive, knocking it off and onto the motherboard. (&^$#@!!!&*... and more *&!!!@##) So I pick it up and set it back on the edge and power up the computer... nothing...nada ... no workie ... just like my son's. Ok, so I plug the hard drive back in that was in the system to begin with... same thing... nothing... Crap!!... so I open up another computer (both were working before I started this) and take the hard drive out of it and plug it into the first machine...same thing... nothing. I then test all the hard drives (including my son's) in the second machine and all are working. So, it looks like I've CRASHED 2 computers in the last 18 hours!! .... WHAT NEXT??? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH :crying: Unfortunately, the PC at work is now off warranty to boot! Oh well, it's good for parts and at least my son's hard drive is still working so he hasn't lost everything.
  25. Has anyone ever straightened out the toe side of the shifter? Move it in towards the engine. It seems like it would clear up some room on the floorboard for setting the foot. Doing this might make it hard to get your toe on it. By the way, I always use both the heel and the toe.
