  1. Man I must be getting old... Turned on VH1 and they had saturdaynight live on! Turned on MTV and MTV2 they had some kind of real life soap opera crap going on... Am I missing something??? these are suppose to be music video channels??? Where can a guy get some decent music videos to work out to? I have direct tv and know 801 thru 850 has music, but its a black screen... This snow is starting to sux
  2. Here's a link that was sent to me that you Wing nuts will enjoy. http://gl1800riders.com/forums/showthread.php?304851-I-modified-my-Wing-cat-is-out-of-the-bag This guy has done some major mods on his ride. Larry
  3. Hope this is the right place... I have a '83 Venture Standard. Anyone in the Columbus, Ohio area have access to a ultrasonic cleaning tank? Or someone on the list know of someone with one. The shops around here want $50 per carb body, with me doing the dissembly/reassembly. I used to send them to a guy in texas, but it has been a few years, and I cant find his info. Also, anyone have experience with the Harbor Freight (or similar) tanks? A waste of money, or worth it? Any input is appreacited. Thanks, Kurt
  4. I have a guy who will make the brackets for fitting the Venture Drivers seat to a Tour Deluxe, Is there anyone out there that might be interested? The more I get made the cheaper it will be....
  5. I have a chance to pick up a 2006 Little Guy 5 wide trailer for a steal from a dealer, he just can't sell it he has had it since it was new. My question is it too big for my 99 Venture? It pulls ok and I can see around it fairly well but it is tall. http://www.golittleguy.com/teardrops/models/5-wide-platform/
  6. Took the bike out today to run some errands. On my way home I had to stop at COSTCO to pick up a few things for CHRISTmas Eve dinner. Traffic sucked as everybody was turning left into the parking lot. Went past COSTCO to make a u-turn back into the lot. A young male (18-22ish) was in a small red car in front of me. I could tell he was on his cell phone, I was ticked as I wanted him to concentrate on making his u-turn so I could make mine. It was then that I saw a guy in a wheel chair coming down the sidewalk, crossing the entrances of a couple of business on that side. I had to wonder where he was coming from, as there was nothing to the east of where he was coming from. You see, this guy had one arm, and one good leg. He was pushing with his right leg, while pushing/spinning the rear wheel with his right arm. He was working VERY hard at each push/spin. I watched how much impact some gravel on the wheelchair ramp had as he went up the 8% wheelchair ramp slope. I think I was just in awe on how hard this guy was working to get somewhere. I kept wondering where he was coming from and how far he had already gone. The kid in the red car finally made his u-turn. About time ! Then it was my turn. As I turned I saw the red car turn into a business parking lot. Next thing I know, the kid had jumped out and walked up to the wheelchair guy. A brief conversation had the young man pushing the wheelchair up the road as I passed. I pulled into COSTCO. As I ran inside I kept thinking about what I had just witnessed. That kid committed to pushing that wheelchair.. How far ? A couple of blocks ? A mile ? I ran through COSTCO grabbing my stuff while thinking about that kid pushing the wheelchair. It was then when I decided that I wanted to get out of there ASAP. I wanted to see if I could either push the next mile, give the kid a ride back to his car, or at least shake his hand. I got in line and kept thinking about what I had seen. I only had three small things to buy. The ladies in front of me turned to me and insisted that I go ahead of them. ( 2nd nice gesture I had seen in the last 15 minutes. ) I checked out and ran to my bike. I rode my motorcycle up a mile to the west, turned around and then to the south. Couldn’t find either of them. Don’t know where they both went. Finally went back to where the car was parked and couldn’t find that either. All I know two things now; There is a mom and dad somewhere that should be very proud of their son, and that the next time I want to be the guy who does it, not the one who just thinks about it.
  7. Hello, everybody. I've been lurking here for a few days now. Ever since my girlfriend informed me that we need a different bike than our Roadstar if we are gonna go very far. Seems the Roadie's ride is just a tad tough on her tush. Also, we want hard bags, fairing, overdrive, cruise, etc. etc. You all know where this is heading. I have been looking for a few days now, and I have found a 2004 RSV that has been covered inside a garage since 2007. Seems the guy bought it, then promptly lost interest. Fast forward to now. We plan to buy it. I know about what has happened in these years. The battery is probably dead as a doornail, the oil needs changed, the tires may be flat, may even need replaced... My big fear is the gas. I know the tank needs drained, as do the carbs... Think I'll get away with that? Or will the carbs need to be removed and gone through? I know that when I decide to fire up one of my old cars, I need to mess with the carb, but there's only 1, and it's right on top. I'm not intimidated by the prospect, just rather not disturb them if I don't need to. In reading your fine forum here this morning, I found that the float levels are probably too high, and need adjustment anyway, but for now I'd like to just get to know the bike before tearing into it. Thanks for any advice you can give me. Bert

    im back

just got back last night from the funeral and a small vist with 2 of my best girls my daughter Amber and Dianne. the funeral for my friends daughter went well. then some time with my girls. and i got to see a picture of dianne,s boyfriend. hansome guy can a man say another guy is hansome? any ways. he got his insurance check from his stolen items that i talked about a few post,s back. he is now going to hold onto that money and look for a venture!! see i can talk some pepole into buying one of these great bikes. i warned him about the 83 frame problems and the second gear problems. and advised him to maybe go 86 and up. so looks like next spring we may have a new member?
  9. It is hard to believe this movie is the same age as my 83 Venture. Not much into spooky movies, but being a car guy, this one was interesting. It is about a 58 Plymouth. RandyA
  10. A guy that I worked with sent me some pictures of one of his friend's Goldwing trike and a truck tire. This guy was on his trike and his wife was on her trike in front of him. A wheel/tire came off an 18 wheeler and came across the median and nailed him. He did get some injuries of road rash, a mild concussion and some chest pains, but he is doing OK. This guy was really lucky and for sure lucky his wife was on her own bike. RandyA
  11. I ran across a guy while looking for exhaust help on my Roadglide. I had a unique setup and had a baffle question. Anyway this guy helped me out in a big way. While talking I mentioned that I had a Rstd and that the Yammie guys are always looking for slip ons of one sort or another. I asked him if he could design a baffle set that would fit the stock mufflers. He said he thought he could, and of course he wondered how much interest there would be. I figured that there may be quite a bit. So I thought I'd throw this out there to see if there is any interest. Rather than give his name out or have a business come on here and solicit, I figured this would be the best way to find out. Might be a help to the Yammie in the aftermarket business.....
  12. Several of us at work ride. Some ride crotch rockets, a few of us ride "those other bikes" and we of course have the HD guys. Now in the HD group these is one guy and you all know him that its HD or nothing. On a side note he is a good friend of mine and did come out and look at RSV the first day I brought it to work. When I sold my Vstar 1100 to move up he sent me a picture of 98 Heritage but it needed work. Told him thanks but no thanks; I'm buying a bike to ride not work on. Quite honestly I'm just not in the postion to pour money into any bike. This week at work the HD guy, myself and a former rider (thinking of getting back on) were discussing bikes. The former rider stirring the pot looked at me and asked when I was going to get an HD? My reply was why would I want a Vtwin when I have a V4. So the HD guy says where do you want me to start? I said Start? I ended it at V4. He just grinned and I chalked it up as one for the other guys.
  13. Hello I am in need of a set for my new project. I picked up 2 Ventures for parts one had been dumped and busted one side of the faring up not bad but more than a easy fix. I have been looking at it and thought it would be a waste to part it out if it ran so I put in some fresh gas oil and plugs and it started alittle more tunning and it runs great. So I took the faring off the other put on this one and took a test ride. Glad I gave it a chance to be on the road again but it is way to loud the guy I got it from did a real hack job on the mufflers. If I can find a pair of stock mufflers or some aftermarket ones that would finish it up except for its new coat of paint this winter. Thanks for any info. Orlin
  14. When you're thinking your Venture is too heavy, think about this guy!
  15. Anyone have some experience with this bike? Local Yamaha mechanic bought one and is wild about it. Whats it like? Iowa Guy
  16. I was wondering if anyone new how to get in touch with Pete. Not sure what he goes by on here and not even sure he is on here anymore. He is the guy who rode the new victory at Vogel. If you do I would like to know how Thanks Rick
  17. Last week I was riding home from running an errand at about 430 pm. I was merging from one highway to another. Merge one is the on-ramp I am on going from two lanes down to one. Merge two is onto the highway as a left side on-ramp (three lanes now), and merge three is another on-ramp from the left as well, now making the highway four lanes. This all occurs in less than 1/10th of a mile. AFTER I reached the end of the two into one, this guy came flying up the shoulder (about 20 mph faster than traffic) on my left, all the time talking on his cell phone, and then went into the left lane of the now four-lane highway. As traffic continued to move, I was being squeezed up to his rear quarter panel when all of a sudden he decided he needed to be in my lane. I started to move to my right but was blocked and had traffic right on my butt, so I could not hit the brakes, so I hit my horn. The talking driver moved back to the left, looked over his shoulder at me, gave me the "you're number 1" sign, and then violently swerved at me. Fortunately the traffic on my right had seen what was happening and had slowed down to give me room so I was able to swerve over one lane to the right very quickly. The guy then slowed down a bit, then sped up and came alongside me and performed the same maneuver. Again I had room to the right because traffic had again slowed down to give me room, and I went to the right again. By now I am trying to figure out how I can get away from this guy as he was starting to do the same thing again. I wanted to get over one more lane and get to the shoulder to get away from him. All of a sudden there is a big SUV up behind me flashing his lights, and I can see the driver enthusiastically waving me to the right. There was a small break, so off I go to the right. The SUV pulled up between me and the crazy driver, and lit up his lights and siren. Man, was I ever thankful. I pulled over to the shoulder and stopped and watched the crazy driver get pulled over. I waited a few minutes and then pulled up to the officer and talked with him. I asked him if he was going to arrest this guy for attempted homicide or something, and he said no. When I said that this guy had tried to kill me with his car, the officer said that 1) he did not have a camera in his vehicle so there was no proof, and 2) that he had not actually touched me. Needless to say I was amazed and dismayed by this news and even stated to the officer, "What, the guy had to actually hit me and take me out before you can arrest him for this???" The officer said he was sorry but that was how this worked but don't worry, "this guy would be written up for lots of stuff like reckless driving, improper lane change, failure to yield, distracted driving, and whatever else he could think of in the next ten minutes, because this guy needs to just sit here for a while." I thanked him and got out of there quickly because I did not want to be around when that guy finally was allowed to leave. Gotta tell you it was a very scary few moments, and I was never in my life more happy to see a police officer. I have reviewed this incident many times over in my mind trying to figure out if I could have done anything different and strongly believe that I did all I could have done. I monitored my mirror during the first lane merge specifically watching for someone to try to do the squeeze play until the lane was totally gone, and I had to focus all my attention on the next merge. As traffic slowed I tried to stay away from him as much as I could and was watching both him and looking for escape routes. The way that traffic merges there is nuts anyway, with essentially three merges in the space of less than 1 tenth of a mile, and with the beginning of rush hour traffic my options where few. Thankfully other traffic was watching and giving me some room to maneuver. I also know it would not have done me any good to have something to throw at him (i.e. marbles, steel ball bearings, lead etc) because it was happening so fast that all I had time to do was control the bike and work the situation. Some folks are just plain crazy, and to experience one of those and get away from it intact will make you go "whew". The one "good" part of the whole thing was that I could see the crazy driver when the officer lit him up, and I will never forget the look of "Oh, crap!" on his face.
  18. Lots of Venture sightings, see post #10... Got to Dan (IH Truck Guy) and Shari's about 5:30 Saturday afternoon! http://tapatalk.com/mu/a6b640ad-69ca-f2eb.jpg Later, Scooter Bob
  19. saw a first gen MkII just north of Kingston late Sat. afternoon. He was heading west on Unity Road crossing #38 onto Mud Lake Road...which takes you to the 401 I tried to get his attention but I was turning off and had someone right on my butt! Looked almost like MARCARL (poor guy!) ANYBODY FROM HERE?
  20. I recently switched out the clear for amber bulbs. On the way to the dealer for service I noticed that my signals were not working. So I pulled over and the rears were not lit at all but the fronts were acting like running lights. They were on, but would not flash when I flipped the switch to indicate I was turning. Any ideas what would cause this. I mentioned it to the service guy and (at my request) they said they would check to make sure a bulb hadn't come loose. Service guy said all was good, but I checked the signals before I left and they are working again. To me it seems like a bulb was loose after all. What do you guys think?
  21. A Few months a go(5K mile) I dd the skydoc clutch mod and replaced the valve cover gaskets on his 99RSV. All as put back together and running Great. Now hes complaining of poor running and his pals smell raw fuel behind him and 37MPG when he used to get 43MPG. Ill have the bike again this weekend but besides something falling into teh carbs Im lost and thinking this guy has another issue not caused by my hands. Im at a loss for words because its mid summer I work 70 hours a week and now I have to cancell plans with my family thi weekend over it.
  22. A friend took these pics and posted them on FB. He took them at our local Wally World. I wish I had actually been there to see it. Don't yet know where the guy is from.

  24. I'm looking for any history on this trike.would anyone here know who may have owned this trike. I believe it originally came from Texas. It is now in Oklahoma. The guy that owns it now has had it for only about 14 months. It's a 99 with a motortrike kit.
  25. Anyone know what the plastic thing is call at the end of a guy line? It is oval or rectangular w/ 2 holes in it that you feed the guy line through. Yes I know it is not necessary to create a loop to tie a stake to, but just wanting to know what it is called.
