  1. I don't care if you are old or young you have to watch this guy. He is a Christian comedian, too funny not to watch!!!
  2. I'm helping a friend fix up a 96 4 piper and if some could post some pic's on how the muffler mounting brackets mount to the frame and mufflers I would sure appreciate it. The guy before welded drag pipes to the header pipes and the muffler mounts are due in tomorrow. Thanks for your time.....
  3. I don't post much but I have to share this. I went to my 4th PGR mission today at DFW National and while waiting for the briefing a medium sized HD (maybe a Dyna, I think bigger than a Sportster, not really sure, I was looking at the guy in amazement) came tooling by ridden by a guy with his right arm completely missing. Turns out he was part of the escort for the hero and part of the funeral party so I didn't get a chance to talk to him or look at his bike closer. Yall may have seen this before but it was a new one on me. I'm still slack jawed about it. He was a real slim dude, too. Couldn't have weighted over 150 lbs. Maybe less. I was impressed. Just Jim
  4. http://www.autoblog.com/2012/06/26/biker-gets-surprise-visit-from-155-mph-snake/?ncid=txtlnkwbauto00000002
  5. Check this guy out..........awesome video................ http://www.wimp.com/classicriffs/
  6. This bike was bought from a guy out of Havanna, Fl. It's a '99 with about 18k miles on it. The pinstriping reminded me of Jaybird's handiwork. The guy that bought it lives within 15 miles of me and we got together today for about 4 hours for a mini MD and general BS section just to get acquainted. Real nice guy. His and mine are the only RSV's around me. The saddlebag hinges have the inserts that I've seen like are on Freebird's bike, without the engraving. I'm just thinking this bike has made it up to Don's at some point in time. It's running a little rough but we're gonna run some Seafoam in it for awhile and see it it'll clean it out. I did a carb sync and it runs much better but they were way out. It's been sitting up for awhile. If running the Seafoam in it doesn't do it then we'll take the carbs off one weekend and give them a really good inspection. So, what say ye, anybody recognize this bike??
  7. Stopped and talked to a couple of gentleman on the BRP yesterday, one was riding an 06 Venture real nice guy gave him a card hopefully he will check us out.
  8. I plan on buying a set of the v twin wide clamps. But I am in sort of a time crunch and may not have time to get the clamps shipped. So my question is do you all think as a temp fix a guy could use a worm type hose clamp?
  9. Just want some information about the rad you gave me to deliver. Do you have e-mail address of the guy who wants the rad? You said you were Taz on website but which one?
  10. Ron and I have been walking at the county park near our home every evening. Last night, we see a guy sitting on a First Gen in the parking lot. Naturally, we go over to meet him. He is a really great guy and he had never heard of our group. So of course, we told him all about the VentureRiders and he was really interested in joining. So Ted, if you read this, it was really nice meeting you. Yama Mama
  11. The Gov signed it into affect yesterday. Helmets optional. I saw a guy on a Harley at lunchtime riding without a brain bucket.
  12. Anybody see Judge Joe Brown today, it was a case about a guy who bought a 1st gen that needed more work than the guy was prepared for, but Judge Joe Brown told the guy he should have saved a few more bucks and bought a real bike like the Harley his wife originally wanted. He was hatin on it for awhile. They showed lots of pictures and the Yamaha name in big letters. It was a good lookin silver bike that looked loaded, probably see it listed pretty quick after that aired.
  13. I am tried of trying to find a right side vent for the side cover of my 85 royale, so a guy here said there was a insert someone here makes. Can someone lead me the right direction ? Thanks
  14. Just rolled 100,000 on the Hondapotamus today. Starting to match the mileage on my R60 (132K) and R100RT (123K). Great bike, GF's favorite. The guy I sold my 87 Venture to has rolled it to 90K. Getting our money's worth for sure.
  15. Anyone here ever hear of a gas tank building so much pressure in it that it actually spread apart causing the front of the tank to spread out and pop off the front mounts?I parked my Venture and my son's Venture outside the shop yesterday temp outside was 90 degrees and my son's tank had swelled up and spread apart. There is about a two inch gap between the tank mount and where it bolts to the frame. The guy he bought it from told him if he is riding and it starts to run like crap to just push down on the gas cap and it will quit running bad and that worked he said he kept getting a strong gas smell and so he thought a relief valve was installed wrong so he took it off and turned it the other way.I am guessing that was a vent and him turning it around caused the pressure to not vent out.Does anyone know where that vent valve may be located and where a guy may find a good used tank? Thanks
  16. Either this guy is really strong or this is gonna really hurt.
  17. Yesterday I received a notification in my email that a member sent me a PM about parts but of course with expired membership I can't fetch it. I need a Venturer member to PM the guy and relay his message to me or give him my email addy which is my screen name at yahoo...
  18. When the guy STOPS running put your cursor about an inch above his head. http://www.selfcontrolfreak.com/pakken.html
  19. No, I didn't drop it or break it in any way! Caution: Long Bonehead Post Traded in the Roadstar and picked up my new (to me) 2002 Venture today. I went over the bike with the salesman and thought I had it figured out pretty well. Just getting out of town and an unfamiliar green light came on (on the left side of the dash). Bright day and me without my reading glasses interpreted this as an oil light !!! (Started with "O" and had two more letters/characters) Went back to the sales guy and told him the oil light was coming on intermittantly. We checked the oil level (OK) so he agreed to replace the oil level sensor (Had to be that, right?). By the time I left town again and rode another few miles, I began to see a pattern of when the light would come on - always in fifth. D'oh - Overdrive light!!! Embarrasing to have to email the guy when I got home a couple of hours later and tell him he could cancel the order for the part - especially since he had agreed to fix it on their nickel! To make things even better, after my first return to the shop when I first discovered the "oil light" problem, I decided to try out the radio and listen to some music for the ride home. Figured out how to turn it on and found a station. Worked Ok for a few minutes and then I started getting intermittant loud static. WTF!! First an oil light sending unit and now a screwed up radio. (I hadn't figured out the O/D thing yet) I was a little pissed and returned to the sales guy and told him about the radio. This guy was great but (like me) was not intimately familiar with the Venture. He agreed that something was screwey and said that they would replace the unit inside the fairing!! The parts were ordered (oil sensor and parts for the radio). As I said, these guys are great when it comes to customer satisfaction and service!! By the time I got home, I had figured out the oil light thing and sent an email with my apologies and told him not to bother ordering the part. Started thinking about the radio... Seemed like it might have been an intermittant grounding issue so I started playing with it after I got home; checking antenna grounds and wiggling the wire from the control unit. I could neither induce the static noise nor stop it by any action, including giving the fairing a gentle thump. Sounded like radio interference...??? Funny thing - I never had a bike with a CB system on it but after I thought about it for awhile, I began to wonder what would happen if a CB transmission came in over the radio station. (was thinking there may have been a fault so there was some cross-talk) D'oh again!! Just realized that in my attempt to get the system operating and tuned while riding, I had managed to turn on the CB (hadn't realized it could run at the same time as the rest of the audio)! Next step was to RTFM (Read The F***ing Manual). Next step after that was to send the sales guy another apologetic email explaining that he really didn't have to order the radio parts, either!! In my defence, I doubt that anyone on earth could figure out the Venture audio system without at least a sneak peek at the manual. This brings me to a question... The bike did not come with an owner's manual. I figured out the radio thing with some help from a downloaded manual (from a link posted on this site). The PDF of the owner's manual is not printable. Does anybody have a link to a version that has printable pages? My only other "issue" is the clutch "ring/whistle/chirp". I will look into it a bit before I make any further complaints. Three major embarrassments in one day would be just too many. Unfortunately, I understand that this is a "known" issue and it is something I will likely have to live with (or pay a lot of money to fix). Maybe the sales guy will fix/replace the clutch for free since it didn't cost him anything for the oil light and audio?? (maybe not) G'night Ross
  20. Due to a recent and somewhat unexpected situation, I find myself compelled to pass this advice on to all who may be interested. It is advice I give you based on personal experience. TAKE IT and live by it so you don't end up where I am today. First. Prepare for your future. Save for your retirement. Save it in such a way that NOBODY else can touch it. When you get to my age and you realize the impact this has on the rest of your life ... you will be so glad you took this advice. Second. DO NOT ever be "Mr Good Guy" in matters pertaining to an ex or soon to be ex-spouse. PROTECT YOURSELF legally and financially. TAKE CARE of YOUR INTERESTS. Let them worry about theirs. I say these things to you for your benefit. I wish someone had drilled them into my head when I was younger.
  21. Guys I ship 5 plus bikes a year, I purchased a bike back in November in boston, Hire this shipping company: www.dreamridetransport.com I just got the bike today. At one point I had thought It was a lost cause. The shipper called the week after he picked it up and said he had broke down in N.C. I wasnt sure why he was there as he was dropping off in Florida then headed up to Memphis. Communication Started to get less and less, his phone numbers got shut off, I called the local law enforcement where his business was and he was using an alias. Finally after relentless pursuit the guy TOM GREGG called and told me that my bike was in storage in North Carolina. I called to confirm set up my own shipper and it was picked up, I of course had to pay a small storage fee as the shipped had stopped paying it. I received my bike with no keys or paperwork. This guy works independently and off uship.
  22. Well the Shiny One has a new owner, a local guy found it on ebay and get this , he bought it at my buy it now price and gave it to one of his employees for a job well done present. What a nice guy . Kelly was in tears as the guy explained what a great employee this guy has been. I followed the guy back to his shop as he rode my bike so I could give him a ride back to his truck at my house. You should of seen this guys face when the boss threw him the key. The best part is it will be local so I can keep an eye out for it.
  23. Get this: The guy whom sold me my 1st Venture (I've had many other bikes) actually told me that it had a "passing gear" when I mentioned to him about the clutch slip! I had never heard of anything like this before, but he swore he found it on the internet after the guy he bought it from told him about it. Correct me if I am wrong, but these bikes are like the Suzuki Cavalcade, prone for an under engineered clutch that needs attention because of slippage when the throttle is twisted hard. I talked to a guy at PCW racing today who is putting together a complete clutch package for around $120.00 or so. Is this pretty much inline for a price? I measured a couple of friction disks, and they were borderline in spec, so I am going for the whole package (it has the 6 spring setup). I would appreciate any help you guys could give me, as I lost my job and my unemployment ran out sometime back. Thank you!!
  24. It's 2:21pm saturday and I'm at my office catching up on work. I hear sirens and they turn off the siren when they are in front of my office. My son just called on his cell. There is a pharmacy 2 buildings from mine and a guy that was riding a motorcycle is laying on the pavement. The parameds are there getting his helmet off. A lady leaving the pharmacy pulled into the street in front of the motorcycle. She is standing on the curve upset saying she never say him. My son's wife who is a physical theapist, said the guy is now posturing. I asked what is that? She said that's when your limbs start turning in. The guys wrists are turning in. Thats not good. I just don't buy the, I didn't see the motorcycle. I think people just don't look. They get distracted talking on cell phones, texting and just don't pay attention. When is it going to end.
  25. And I didn't even get bit by a radioactive spider!!! Done all myself by falling down and trying to drive my elbow into the concrete floor. I'd rather dealt with the spider at this point. Last Thurday at work I took a flying backwards leap and did a 4" foot drop onto the concrete and I remember hitting my head but apparently the elbow got there fast and furious. (oop... different movie) When my head quit spinning I tried to get up but the left arm wouldn't bend. At all. Could not support myself but finally got right side up and back on my feet. Checked myself out and I seemed to be fine except for the left elbow bleeding a bit and the stiffness. So....being a guy I cleaned it up and threw a bandage on it an finshed my shift. I did stop and notify the Director before I left that I had taken a spill and just wanted to record it and NO I didn't need emergency treatment. Hey! Like I said...I'm a guy and how many times have I cracked an elbow, knee, heel, wrist, head or other body part in my life. Not enough paper for a score card on that one. Went home and cleaned it up and dropped the old joint in the ice bucket for a while. That helped. A bit. Then the swelling started up! I mean POOF. Man I got a big elbow! But being a guy....... I bandaged it up and went to bed. NOW..... this is where those of you with weak tummies might want to wander back to a nice safe posting. And for those of you with the macho blood lust.... NO I didn't attach any pics. But I woke up during the night and wandered in to scratch my name in the litter box. (cat hates that) But when I flipped on the light I glanced in the mirror and WOW! When was I in a fist fight? Blood all over my face and chest and the arm is drenched. Holy Smoke! Went back an turned on the lights in the bedroom and the bed looked like a scene from a slasher movie. I seemed to have been bleeding a bit. Being a guy..... I changed the bandage and the sheets and went back to bed. So... over the next few days of working I did my usual routine and kept cleaning the elbow and changing bandages. Seems like I'm gonna survive. Swelling is still there but the arm is loosening up a bit. Yeah, I'm fine. Second notice..... be a good time to check out the Disney channel kids. Wait! The kids would love this part. But come Monday.... things got odd. The arm hurt, the bleeding was slow but steady and there was a lot of clear fluid draining. When I got home I asked my daughter to give me a hand and help me take a look at the wound on my elbow and help clean it up. After all how many of you can see the back of your elbow? So she digs out the med kit and sets to work. She's always showed some interest in being a nurse. She cuts off the old bandage and pours Peroxide over the wound. Nice tingle. She mentioned it didn't look like a scrape but more like a puncture at the point of the elbow. Like a star shaped hole. So being a guy .... I want to take a look. Last warning! I raise my arm up, not easy to do, and hold it in front of me in front to the mirror but I can't bend my arm back. So I use my other hand to pull the left hand back towards my shoulder. Yikes! I felt a pulse in my arm and a blast, not a little either, of blood and clear fluid shot out of my elbow and covered the wall, mirror, sink top, and shelves. I heard her scream and I turned around and, well that was a bad idea as I sprayed her, the shower curtains and towels rack as I did. So rather than tend to the mess right away I had to hold her head out of the toilet for about five minutes. I think she has considered her future in nursing is at a low point right now. Ok, Like I said ..... I'm a guy. Now I'm concerned. So the visit to the Doc was informative and productive. When I told him about the bizzarre discharge he looked at me somewhat oddly. I asked him if he's ever seen that before. Nope. I told him to hold up a towel in front of elbow and did the same flex again. About a foot and a half out. Now I got three Doc's interested! So all in all they determined I had damaged the membrane that cushions the joint it the elbow. When it started to swell up and the pressure from moving my arm to that postion it just ruptured and the fluid and blood make a hasty exit though the first available hole. The one in my elbow. And I got a bucket full of pills from the Doc's and I get to visit with them every other day for a while. Yea! My favorite pastime! My bosses only question was how long would it take to heal. I swear, I want to show him my lil trick. Ok, Ok .... so I'm not shooting web stuff but I got to admit I'd never seen nuttin like this in all my years of getting banged up and damaged. Too bad it didn't happen before Halloween! I would have been the coolest guy on the block. Yeah, kids love this stuff. Myself, I think next time I'm going to go the "HULK" kind of thing. I'm not so fond of cleaning up after "Spidey". And I get a lkick out of the "Puny Human" line! So there, it's a nasty, gorey story but has anybody experienced anything like this? And you were warned..... several times. Spidey err.... Mike
