1. We made it into Nova Scotia today. In my opinion it pays to travel in the U.S. Our typical fill up in the states for the two bikes was around $20. We found a camp ground in Jonesport, Maine $15 with hydro. Typical hotel $55. In Canada, Filled up today $33, Camped last night in a provicial camp ground $38 + $16 to get into the park, tonight $110 for a room. We are enjoying ourselves, nothing better than riding down a road. We had a very friendly boarder guard the other day. I went though first and he asked me if the usual questions and then asked if I was traveling with the bike behind me. Ya, thats my wife. He said, I'll give her a hard time then, lol He told her I had said she's smuggling in heroin, she replied, he would say something like that. Then she added I've gained a few pounds while in the states, your welcome to take that back. If I could do that everyone would be coming to Canada.
2. ok since im late on this as it took me till this week to get the funds and such to go. where is a good place to stay at a fair price? i do have a tent packed but a friend borrowed my cot. and hes still on vacation with it. with all my knee operations i have had i cant just sleep on the ground in the tent with a sleeping bag. unless someone has a extra cot willing to lend? must be able to hold a heavy load.
3. Battery goes dead in about a week of no use (rain). I was told to put a fluke meter in between the ground wire and neg post and start pulling fuses. Battery reads 12.3 volts across the post and 11.5 with the fluke meter between the ground wire and the post.No change with pulling the fuses.(switch off position) NEED HELP Mike
4. I know it's been discused before but I want to make sure I don't have a proble. I get fuel leaking out of the vent hose under the seat low to the ground not the carb vents up forward, I am under the understanding that it is the tank vent. My question is could this be vapor escaping and then condensing that is dripping under my bike? I think it's a little excessive although the direct sun and heat here in SE GA are intense I am not seeing the same stains on the ground under other makes?
5. OK, I am really confused on this. My new bike has the extra lights which are set in chrome all over the back of the rig and a simple switch to turn them on and off, which works fine. I was replacing it with a rocker switch that has an LED (so it now needs it's own ground). When I flip the switch the on/off functionality of the switch works fine but the LED only goes on for a brief moment before the switch engages (basically just flashes on then back off). Any thoughts on why this LED wouldn't work. For the supply I am using a blue wire that comes from the fuse box. The load is the one I am assuming goes to the lights. I ran a ground wire right to the negative terminal of the batter, do I need a different ground point? I also went and got another identical switch in case there was something wrong with the rocker I bought first. Thanks!
6. I'm installing a Back-off brake module and was wondering where to attach the ground wire. Should I attach it to the frame or the battery? Thanks
7. Those of you who know me from the chat room, know that I farm for a living. Mother nature has decided to make it extremely difficult for us in my area. We have been extremely wet for the last year and a half. Here a a few pictures that are kind of cool. The outfit that is stuck spreads fertilizer prior to seeding the ground. He got stuck in a sinkhole. The rest of the ground is fit for planting, It took us a full day to get him out, using a backhoe, and 2 4wd tractors. AINT FARMING FUN!
8. I just notice when I turn on the signal lights, all lights slightly pulsate.. Now I know that this is cause by a bad ground Do I look for on the scoot or on the trailer, I Have a 6 prong connector
9. Hall's Motorsport has burned to the ground. Total loss. It was the Yamaha shop. Good thing is, nobody was hurt. tew47
10. speed sensor has 3 wires L/Y, W, B/L which one is power, ground, sensor signal wiring diagrams confuse the he-- out of me.
11. i went for a job interview today. for a janitorial position. while there they asked if they could do a back ground check and credit check? i said yep no problem. well they said they all ready did it from me filling out my aplication 60 days ago. i said ok what did ya find? they said you have a great back ground check for anything criminal. i said thats great . they said now here is some thing that bothers us some? i went ok here it comes what is it? they said you have a credit score of the mark of the beast? i said huh? thye said it comes back 666. which is a D rateing. needless to say i didnt get this job? what the heck does a credit score have to do with cleaning a damn office building?
12. How many hammock hangers do we have? I am talking about the camping type with rain fly, underquilts Etc. I have been hiking and camping using a hammock for several years and plan on never going back to the ground while camping except in emergency. My 50 year old back loves me for it. Bigest advantage is: it all fits in my saddlebag.
13. Happy Ground Hog Day to all ! I am sorry that those of you in the East and South will continue with poor weather....... according to the Ground Hogs anyway! It is bright and sunny here with about 48*F and you know the bike is coming out for a ride! Enjoy the day all !! Ride safe!!!
14. The following video presentation has been brought to you by: http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/marinelogo.jpg Warning ! There is some very graphic language in following video clip of our Marines in action. You've been forewarned! This is an example of technology in action! The Marines on the ground have been pinned down by a sniper in the building in front of them. Enjoy Semper Fi
15. Once again I have the reoccuring problem of the starter draggin. Now it's dragging so bad that it won't turn the engine over. sometimes it will catch and crank mostly it just sounds like it doesn't have enough power to turn the engine over. As indicated this is an reoccurring problem I went through this several months ago and thought I had it fixed by replaceing the bad under warrenty Odyssee battery. It worked great for a while then started acting up again and got progressively worse until now it just won't hardly crank. I've jumped out from hot battery to power lug on starter and it is doing the same thing. I've removed the starter and have taken it apart and cleaned it up and reinstalled. No Help. The battery wires have all been upgraded and have also added a second ground from engine ground point to frame. All the ground points are in good shape. I'm at the end of my rope. Does anyone have any suggestions.
16. rear end lowering kit installed... could I still add a trike kit? If needed in the future? My concern would be ground clearance? My ankle is slowly deteriorating after a couple of surgeries.
17. I've had a problem with my 86 VR where the signal lights were turning off way too quickly (sometimes after two or three blinks). One of my buddies helped me look at it a few weeks ago and we found out it was losing ground and cutting off before it was supposed to. After pricing replacement switches for a few weeks I decided to try something today. I ran a wire from the ground side of the fuse box through the cable channel in the left handle bar and into the switch. There is a metal plate inside the switch just behind the control. I played around with my wire to find where the plate needed the ground and soldered the wire in place. I have to manually turn my signal light off now after I make a turn, but I feel a whole lot safer now that I don't have to worry about it turning off at the wrong time. Not a hard fix if I could do it. Thought someone else may be having the same problem.
18. Every once in awhile my display would just go away. This was usually a short period, like when it was first started. Yesterday it went away along with my Tach, turn signals, and brake lights. When I first turn on the key it is there, but if I engage the front brake or lift the side stand then it is gone. I'm thinking ground wire somewhere, but where should I start? does the side stand have a ground on it? I am electically challenged also but do have a Fluke meter (and a very rudimentary understanding of how to use it). It would have to happen right when I am working full-time, going to school full time, and the inspection is due this month. HELP
19. My friend has a Midnight Venture and recently had a carb repair at a local shop. Now the bike will crank and run on choke but as soon as he turns the choke off the carbs start dumping gas on the ground. I'm thinking float setting is wrong. If anyone has had similar problems please share.
20. Hi there Guys: I've got a bud that has an 86 royal star and I'm not sure about this problem but think its his grounding for the bike volt meter rises or picks up to the normal running area when you put a slite pressure to the clutch handle. Let go of the clutch and the meter drops and at night you can see the head light dim down. He has checked most of the connections and cleaned with contact cleaner plus putting the elletrolite grease on connections.. I think it would be the ground from motor to frame. Does Anyone have any other ideas what this might be..
21. As always there are a lot of electrical issues coming up in these forums maney of which are ground related. Most go through a lot of agravation checking there grounds only to find out there is nothing wrong with the ground. True you should always eliminate any possible ground faults as a first step in diagnosing electrical issues. so here is a very useful and simple test to verify your ground condition. what you need a voltmeter a high beam headlight two 3 ft lengths of wire two aligator clips A) connect an alligator clip to one end of each wire B) connect the other end of each wire to a terminal on the high beam headlight 1) connect voltmeter to battery and record the voltage reading eg: 12V 2) connect the alligator clips from the high beam to the batt and record the resulting reading eg: 11.5 V the difference is your voltage drop eg: 0.5 v 3) disconnect the high beam aligator clip and the volt meter test lead from the neg post of the battery only 4) connect the volt meter neg lead to the engine block and read record the voltage reading eg: 12v 5) connect the alligator clip from the high beam to the same point on the engine block and not the voltage eg: 1) 11.2 v voltage drpo is relitivily close to that recorded in step (2) your ground to the engine is good you need not look any further. If for example your voltage upon connecting the high beam dropped to say for eg: 7v than you have a ground issue and need to locate it 6) repeat steps (4 & 5) but connect to the frame of the bike to test if the frame has a proper or faulty ground. this test takes only several minutes to perform and is far more reliable than using an ohmeter because an ohmeter does not load up the circuit which would pass under a light currant load but fail under a heavy load. slight modifications of this test can be used to load test any wire on the bike and will instantly reveal if a wire or circuit is sound or faulty with out having to tear the whole bike down eleminating a lot of unecessary work. By leaving the voltmeter and head light connected to the neg side of the battery and moveing the positive side connections in the same maner the positve side of you electrical system can also be tested you must take more care however when loading up the positve side of the electrical system to be sure you don't accidently load up a sensitive component in the sysem by mistake. In such case i often disconnect both ends of the circuit apply voltage to one end of the wire and connect my voltmeter and then my test load to the other end.
22. I just got my Kuryakyn Switchblade highway pegs. I like how adjustable they are, but there is one adjustment that I can't figure out: how do you stop them from spinning? The actual foot platform spins like on bearings. When I extend the heel rest, it swings down to point towards the ground. I don't see how the heel rest could be of any use. The pegs themselves are less supportive, since the turn so readily. Is there anyway to lock them in place at a particular angle? What am I missing?
23. Hey Folks, Got the RSV tore apart doing some maintenance and adding a few things. I have installed a fuse block, front and rear modulators, front fork air pressure balance kit, speed bleeders, fresh fluids, a Stebel horn, lubed the rear suspension (except for the swingarm bearings - will get that at next tire change), put new avons venoms on, tightened the stearing head, and rewired the light bar so that it is on when the dims are. Have yet to install a rear led light strip and the Kisan ChargeGuard. My question about the kisan is they state in their installation instructions that all the ground wires should be connected to the copper shunt on the neg post of the battery. Does this literally mean all the wired grounds on the bike? I have grounds located on several places on the frame. Do I have to rewire so that they are all connected to the shunt? This is the installation information from the Kisan site: CURRENT SENSOR The Current Sensor is an Integrated Copper Shunt, which mounts on the NEGATIVE (Ground) battery post. Shunt is rated for 100 Amps MAX current The power wire attached to the shunt must be connected to the positive battery post or a 12v source. INSTALLING CURRENT SENSOR: Remove ALL cables from the NEGATIVE (Ground) post of the battery. Attach ALL ground cables to the shunt as shown here, with the nut & bolt supplied. Now you can re-attach the other eyelet of the shunt on the Ground post of the battery, using the original bolt. Note! The orientation of the Left/Right eyelets is important to keep correct Input/Output of the current flow. Thanks in advance for all the help, Jinksy
24. Questions for you electronic tech geek types. I'm installing a cylindrical electrolytic capacitor for noise suppression, from the hot lead to ground. The cap, from Radio Shack, has one end where the lead comes out of a plastic insulating disc, and the other end is all metal with the lead coming out. There is an arrow on the body pointing from the plastic end to the metal end. Is there polarity on the cap? Which end goes to hot, and which to ground? What would happen if it was installed backward? Thanks, Jeremy
25. KISSED BY AN ALASKAN MOOSE You folks who live in the "Boonies" should be able to relate to this. The fellow in the picture is standing on his back deck which is about two feet off the ground. He is about 6' 1" and 250 pounds. So she is a fair sized critter.
