  1. I was hoping someone could clear this up for me. I am new to Venture motorcycles, My last bike was a Goldwing and now I own a 2004 midnight RSV. I have read a lot of the back and forth talk about Harley VS. Goldwing Vs. Venture. In my opinion they are all great machines in there own way, offering different variety for people. I can go to a Harley dealership and look at a selection of touring bikes, or the Honda dealers always have a few Goldwings in stock. Why can’t I go to a Yamaha dealer and look at a new Venture. Is the demand higher than supply? My local dealer tells me he rarely gets them in but when he does, new or used, they don’t stay on the showroom floor long. It seems to me if we like them so much, Japan would supply us more of them. Anyhow, thanks for your time in reading this and maybe someone can shed some light on this for me.
  2. Hi, I don't get here much since my 84 venture got hit by a deer last May, But I am looking a an 86 venture and an 87 venture Royale and a 86 Goldwing GL1200. It seams everyone wants a goldwing but what are the downsides between the venture and wing? I liked the way I sat lower on the venture but how does the wing sit, I was told higher and I am only 5'8" so the lower the better. The prices are the same. equipment is the same. Is it hard to find venture parts? Wings have the timing belt issue and the stator. Ventures have the 2nd gear problem. Any opinions to sway me one way or another? Eddy
  3. I am looking for some help or advice on an 86 Goldwing 1200 My son got a n 86 Gold wing last spring, yea I know it’s not a Venture but he likes it and the price was right his other bike is a Valcon 1500 and he can’t keep up with me when we ride together and long rides are out on that thing it’s just not comfortable on road trips. Anyway last fall the stator went out so the project over the winter was to replace the stator. Well as you know if you have ever worked on a Goldwing to replace the stator you have to remove the engine. So while we had it out we replaced the clutch and the timing belts rather than waiting on them to break down. Well the stator is replaces and working good that’s another story in its self, and we double and triple checked the timing belts with the engine out and with engine back in place. The clutch works better than it ever did when he had it. After putting it all back together the engine runs good a little back fire but hardly noticeable when sitting still even at high rpm’s but when he tries to ride it there is just no torque when he lets out the clutch in gear it can hardly move itself on level ground any king of a grade and you have to keep slipping the clutch to go. When you release the clutch it stalls out completely, the clutch works fine fully engages and disengages just like it should we even flushed the clutch cylinder and checked to be sure it is working freely all is OK. We had the carb rack out at least 4 times to check for vacuum leaks or linkage problems but nothing. Timing is right on, all the cylinders are getting spark 2 of the cylinders look like they may be running rich (Plugs are wet) but no indication of unburned fuel in the exhaust. We really don’t want to rebuild the carbs without having a real good reason to. We are at the end of our wits and he is ready to scrap it out for parts if we don’t get it running soon. This bike ran good before we had to pull the engine to replace the stator. So any help or suggestions would be helpful Thanks Gary
  4. Wrecked my 06 RSV and looking at a 03 GL1800 to replace it. I'll miss the RSV but like the lower CG on the Goldwing. Any words of wisdom or recommendations concerning Goldwings in general or a particular model year?
  5. Been looking at Goldwings and and the BMW K 1200 LT. Scratching my head. Don't know which one I like the most. My 08 RSV is sittin in the parking lot at work with a bad ignition switch. Waiting till Monday morning, then gonna load it on the trailer and take it to the Yamaha/Honda dealer to get it fixed. Also, needs the fuel level indicator fixed. Took the rear wheel off to grease the splines and noticed the rear shock has about a half inch or more of up and down play in it. Meaning, I can lift the swingarm up about a half inch, like something ain't right. Might be normal, I don't know. Gonna get them to check that, too. I'm not really that unhappy with the RSV, I just think there might be something a little bit better. I ride year round, and while I'm pulling out the choke lever, cranking up and warming up the engine, my buddy hops on his fuel injected Goldwing and rides away. Also, with factory heated grips and seat. I know some of ya have gone to Goldwings and like them. I had one in the early 80's and liked that one. I know they've changed a lot. What do ya think about the BMW K 1200 LT? Know where there's one at a reasonable price. Also, didn't say I was going to quit the web site. If Eck can ride a Goldwing to meet and eats, surely I can too (He, He). Besides, my best friend and cousin-in-law ride an RSV. Anyway, I value ya's opinion. Whatdoyouthink?
  6. something like that? got a call from dianne way up north. she said she saw a honda pacific? 800cc strange looking but kind of a touring bike. any one know any history about these? reason im asking is a friend of hers is interested and wants to know if its worth $3600.00 sorry no pics but its red has 32 k on it. new tires battery and regular maintenance done this summer. she said it has trunk space but not enough for helmets? she thought there was a radio on the bike? was this a new kind of smaller type goldwing prototype/ kind of like the silverwing? thanks oldgoat.
  7. It is not my fault that Tom made the Big Bend run on a new Goldwing. It is not my fault that my wife fell in love with the bike...ok, so did I. It is not my fault that when we stopped in at a Honda dealer for rainsuits that they had an '07 Goldwing...level three that we would really like. I guess it is MY fault that we ended up buying it, though. I hope I will not be disowned by this group...
  8. Looking for some tips on things to have done prior to me signing for my 2010 Goldwing. I know once you sign and take possession, its all over has far as your barging power goes. Want to get what i can in writing before i sign on that dotted line. This my 1st Goldwing w/ Nav Pearl Yellow . I currently ride a 05 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe great ride, but don't have all the bells and whistles. Open to any info. Thanks My14car:337:
  9. Hi Guys, I love my venture but I'm looking at a 85 1200 goldwing. Can anyone give me some tips of things to be concerned about? I know every bike has it's own set of common problems....some of which can get very expensive ! Thanks John
  10. Hi from Atlantic Canada! Moncton, New Brunswick actually. I currently own a Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 Classic and would like to move up to a full-on touring bike for my wife and I by next summer. I've tried out various Harley touring bikes and find them quite nice but I've seen so many used late model Royal Star Ventures going pretty cheap, it's hard not to take these into consideration too. I've never had the opportunity to try one out for myself, so I'm trying to get as much info on the internet as I can find. Looks like a lot of bike for the money. I don't know if I'd go the Goldwing route, so the Venture might be the bike for me. It seems like a bike that falls somewhere between an UltraGlide and a Goldwing? Even though the Venture is only a five speed, when cruising down the highway, it doesn't cause buzzing at the handgrips or floorboards does it? Are there any negatives in dealing with the four carbs, rather then modern fuel injection? How are the brakes? Most modern large-sized touring bikes now have ABS or offer it as an option, does this cause you any concerns as it's such a big, heavy bike? Any input from you Venture owners would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
  11. Which one would you rather be riding? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18zKUlxWW08&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - crashtest honda goldwing 1800[/ame]
  12. Hi, new guy here. Old Wing guy though. Anyway I,ve been sorting out an '87 Venture basket case, and have the dreaded "tank slapper" trouble any time I let go of bar. Its severe and right now when it happens! I'm working through the list of soloutions like bearings springs seals etc. All that aside, the '82 wing has a heavy weight attached to the forks under the fairing, presumably to lessen this trouble on the Honda. Anyone tried to use a Goldwing fork counterweight on a Venture? If so, what happened? It sure looks like it will fit and might give my new ride better manners. What's the list wisdom on this? -87
  13. I was thing my nex bike I might get a Goldwing. For some reason I was looking on Greg List. I ran across this add. http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/mcy/1932148949.html It look like a good price for the condition it looks like it in $5300. I look at the retail value up on KBB $6565 and Trade in value (Good Condition) $4525. The Voyager kit is $4095 Which I would take off and store it So I email the guy no phone number on the add. I was going to go look at it. But the bike is not in Indy it in Montana. Here is the email the seller sent me. Hello, I am selling this motorcycle because my unit has been sent back to Afghanistan and don't want it get old in my backyard. The price is low because I need to sell it in one week. It has no damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects. It is in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained and hasn't been involved in any accident.I do have the title , clear, under my name. The motorcycle has 28,788 miles, year 1996 It is still available for sale if interested, price as stated in the ad $5,300.The motorcycle is in Great Falls, MT, in case it gets sold I will take care of shipping. Let me know if you are interested, email back. Regards, Daniel Swaine If it is not a scam and some knew of someone that wanted a Voyager Kit for a Wing. You colud sell the kit and have a nice Goldwing could be a good deal. I just want buy anything like that of the net unless I can see and ride it. I was thinking I would get it for a second bike.
  14. OK now I have the trailer hitch on and the trailer ready to go is there a plug and play trailer connector for the 84 VR like the goldwing or do I have to splice the wires ? I have been searching the tech library but could not find anything. Tom
  15. It has been a month since I picked up my 02 Goldwing trike. I've ridden it 3,000 miles in that time and truly enjoy it. I'm waiting for a taller windshield to arrive which will help with the wind buffeting. This has been my biggest complaint. It has a stock windshield and I sit tall so this should remedy the problem. I also installed baker airwings and plan to get the wings for the mirrors. Sunday I rode 10 1/2 hours and was more tired from the wind as I rode interstate the whole way. It is so easy to ride and takes a ton of stress out of riding. I'm pleased with the purchase.

  17. This story appeared in Baggers Magazine. Its part 2 of a series called: Sturgis. Hellride. Is it worth it? Sofar they have posted 3 parts. The jist is that these guys, all professionals, left LA for Sturgis SD, riding long lonely stretches of road in the heat of summer, dodging heat, cows, rain, and traffic. When they got a bit spirited in the mountains of Colorado, something terrible happened. We've all seen videos of riders on the Goldwings, flipping from side to side in the twisties, and dragging pegs all the way. It makes me cringe when I hear that. I never scrape the floorboards...if necessary, I hang-in, decreasing the active lean angle of the bike, but I spent way too many years riding dirtbikes to feel comfortable dragging hard parts on the hard pavement. The bike can lever up, losing traction, or worse, in a blind turn, you might have to chop throttle, and then shaft-drive bikes can rear-dive, and/or increase lean angle and drag MORE metal. So no thanks. MY footboard plates are like new, no scrape marks. No matter what you ride, be careful guys and gals! http://www.baggersmag.com/features/1007_hrbp_baggers_3000_mile_hell_ride_part_2/index.html http://image.baggersmag.com/f/features/1007_hrbp_baggers_3000_mile_hell_ride_part_2/29187343+pheader_460x1000/1007_hrbp_01_z+baggers_3000_mile_hell_ride_part_2+2009_honda_goldwing_crash.jpg
  18. I'm ready to take my one last ride on my 2000 RSV MM bike. I sold it to Andy (aka: Alabamacameo on this site) and will meet up with him near Nashville on Monday. What can I say about the 2000 RSV MM? It is absolutely my favorite bike and this is my second MM bike. Such a sweet looking bike with a great ride. Sold it to Andy who will take great care of it and I will pick up my 2002 Goldwing Trike to ride back to Iowa. I will be spending a few days in the Cookeville area enjoying the roads. This site has been a Godsend. The wealth of information and advice on this site is tremendous. My membership fee is a small price to pay for the benefits of being here. I plan to stick around especially since Don added the Goldwing forum. Thanks to everyone here!
  19. Hi; Just wanted to share my cure for a Hot Motorcycle Seat when you get on your bike to ride home. I learned about it from Goldwing Owners. Goldwing owners generally always use a 1/2 cover on their bikes when they stop in the summertime. Without a cover, the black bike seat will feel like it is on fire when you get on it after baking in the sun. A Goldwing Half cover fits great on a Venture (2nd Gen). I use a... Champion Honda Goldwing Half Cover Motorcycle Cover It can be found for about $30. Johnb
  20. Check out the following link. http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2007/09/24/honda-gold-wing-quad-from-hannigan-motorsports/ It is a 4 wheeled Goldwing!! - Aside from how practical it is, I think it looks pretty cool. craigr
  21. I bought an 02 Goldwing Trike - so where do I hang out, here or in the Trike forum? hmmmmmm -
  22. Does anybody offer a MP3 jack mod for the mitusubishi radio? Sierra Electronics does one for the Goldwing radio.
  23. I was checking to see if there were any members who were VIP members to Wingstuff.com. There is a JMCB-2003-dual set on there for 305 and it asked me to become a vip member and I could maybe get a discount. I was checking to see if anyone was a member and check if I could get better deal. I don't mind becoming a member if I can but don't own a Goldwing so it would not pay for me to join. After this I will probably never buy anything there again.
  24. looks like the new goldwing tech section is starting to roll. anyone on here that has a wing or is thinking about getting one, check it out. the good info is starting to roll in. eck posted some great info. don't know if i could lay my wing down to change the wheel in the rear, but lots of wing owners do. there's a great movie of a guy doing it in the tech section, thanks to eck.
