One of the people at work today mentioned that they are interested in getting an RSV (2nd Gen). Anyone know of one for sale in SW Ontario?

I just finished installing a 2nd gen starter on my 1st gen 86 VR. It clearly solved the slow cranking. I cant say that I enjoyed the job. It wasn't a difficult job but you have to remove a lot of parts to get to the starter. I purchased new O-rings for the connections at the thermostat housing. Is a good idea to lube the rings with anything to help with reassembly and sealing? Maybe water soluble Vaseline or silicone?

I saw a maroon 2nd gen headed east on Layton Ave headed into Cudahy tonight. It was a 2nd gen running side by side with a 2 up Harley, so I had no problem catching up, but there was to much other traffic to get next to then to see who it was. Was it anyone from here?

I was wondering if anyone knew the sizes available. Are they being made to fit the 1st gen? I really liked the original commanders..- 1 reply

Can anyone tell me if the GEN I (MKI or MKII) use the same electrical conectors and pin out as the GEN II Royal Star Ventures do where the main harness connector to the rear light harness under the seat? I have started making a jumper harness for the GEN II Royal Star Venture and was asked if the harness will fit a GEN I MK II, but I have no clue and do not know any one in the area that has a GEN I of any type that could be used to check it out. Wiring diagram and pin out is attached, photos can be seen in the GEN II classifieds in my ad. Thanks for any info.

I have set the 2nd gen gearset into the old 86 1st gen block that I have and so far I do not see anything that looks like it would not work. With some larger diameter gears due to the 5th gear overdrive, I was concerned about clearance problems, but so far, so good. I have set the gears in both halves and will post some pictures. RandyA

I had a little squeak in my VRII Speedo Bearing. I had a friend with a machine shop and he made this out of aluminum. It works just great. So I thought I would present a group buy opportunity. Just response here and after a week or two I'll see what kind of quantity order we get and then see what kind of price I can get for that quantity. This would be a non committal response. Once I get the price then I will ask each if they are still interested in an order. I'm guessing that the coupling are the same for MKI and MKII. Could someone check please. Also if some could find out if the Speedometer coupling for a 1st Gen is the same as a 2nd Gen.

I'm looking for any pictures of naked 1st Gens that are riders. Have a friend that has an 84 that the tupperware is pretty sun dried etc. Was thinking that instead of parting it out, maybe trying to strip it down and make a back up rider out of it. They look terrible plain naked, so I'm wondering how anybody dressed them up to make em look prettier than a 2nd Gen... dang...did I type that last part out loud ..?

Better than having the expense of a trailer (reg & annual personal property tax) & it would get me out of a jam if my bike dies. Not for long distance hauls but emergencies. What do you think? Would you think it could handle the weight of a 1st Gen? Can a 1st Gen be towed rear wheel down? Construction: 1/4" Powder-Coated Steel Weight:26 lbs. with tie-down bar 21 lbs. without Dimensions: 30”(L) x 2”(W) x 20”(H) Tie-Down Bar Dimensions:36”(L)x 2”(W) x 1”(H)

Moving up from a GL1500 to a Venture. Wife demands a comfy seat for touring. Gave a lot of consideration to GL1800 but I like the looks of the Venture a lot more, the lower seat, and it seems to have less problems. Been shopping a lot. Most likely will be buying a 2007 or newer. Best deal I see right now is a 2008 with 9300 miles for just under $10k. got a few questions: 1. Are there any problems specific to certain model years of the 2nd Gen design? 2. has anyone reported successful addition of an electric windshield to a Venture? (if not I'll probably be doing it and will report here.) 3. Buying used Venture still under 5 year OEM warranty is there any paperwork I should be getting with the bike? 4. how do I determine how much warranty is left? Looking forward to participating here. Already planning my 1st trip this summer to visit daughter in the USMC in N.C. Mark in MN

Earl put together an awesome thread for balancing your Gen 1 carbs. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=56723&referrerid=11995 With Earl's permission, I took the thread and converted it to a PDF. I also put the pictures with the appropriate text. This gives you a document that you can easily print out and follow step by step. I was able to balance my carbs in less than 30 minutes and now that I have done it once, I'm sure that I could do it in under 20 minutes. Thanks Earl! Ray

Got the info on the Hardley. It is 07 Springer Screaming Eagle Soft-Tail I think this thing takes the same battery as a 2nd Gen. A 20 something. Any one know of Promo codes for Advance Auto right now or anything? Cheapest AGM I could find was 109 bucks with free shipping. I only paid $62 I think for my 1st Gen with the promo code Dale found.

I took the liberty of documenting my replacement with photos & details. I think it would be a big help to Venture newbies who have never seen (much less worked on) a 1st Gen 63236.pdf

Bob Myers made a tool that seats the bushings and seals on the 2nd gen forks, It was decided to pass it around to the members as needed, with the last possessor paying the shipping. FLB was the first, and im the second. I just finished assembling the fork legs and in a few days ill be adding the fork oil. Once im sure its not leaking ill post the tools availability. So, if your planning on rebuilding/re-sealing your front forks on a 2nd gen, this tool is indispensable. It worked like a charm. Thanks again, Bob and Forrest.... Attached Thumbnails

Anyone made a handle bar cross bar for our 1st Gen?

I just bought a 2000 2nd gen, still have my 1st gen, gonna semi retire the 84 for now. Yes, big differences but you can get parts for a 2000. My 84 and 2000 are both redheads, I like red bikes!

Boy, I get a newer bike and I seem to be on the site a lot more. Go figure. I had a chatterbox tandem pro HJC-50 that I used on my 1st gen but the 2nd gen has a built in intercom/radio. Does anyone know or if it is possible to have an adapter cord that goes from the chatterbox (looks like 7 pin) to a 5 pin setup?
