    Vent covers, 1st Gen

One of the things I really didn't care for on the first gen Ventures is the open vent over the rear cylinders. That really cooks the old jeans on the rider. I've seen some of y'alls bikes that have covers of various types in place over these vents. But I can't find any anywhere on the net. So, does anyone know if they are still available?
  2. Where is the idle speed adjustment on a first gen?
  3. Does anyone have a link to a post (anywhere) that details the process of replacing/repairing the diaphrams (with pics) on a 1st gen?
  4. Is there a difference in the height of 1st gen centerstands? I've examined two now and they're not the same, so I guess the answer is yes. But what years have what heights? One I've seen is marked "'86", and the other one is not marked for year at all. The '86 one is shorter than the unmarked one. Otherwise they are styled exactly the same. Was anyone else aware of this height difference? Maybe this is why some were unhappy with the centerstand operation when mounted on a 2nd gen. Could some of you 1st gen owners measure the distance between the ground and the mounting bolt axis of the stand on your bikes and post it, along with what year you have? I'd appreciate it. TIA.
  5. Ok finnaly found a bit of chrome for my bike anyone use these grips on a first gen? any feedback on them i'm thinking about bidding on em. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-XVZ-Buffalo-Grips-7-8-new_W0QQitemZ320134448283QQihZ011QQcategoryZ35580QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  6. Is it possible to remove and install the rear head of a 1st gen 1200 without removing the engine from the frame?
  7. I have a set of the Mac Slip on mufflers still in the box, that Condor got for us back in Feburary. I would like to sell to another first gen rider if anyone wants them. Price: $210 dollars Moakster
  8. My dad got some stuff for his trike through them, said he ordered it on line, but the website has been "inactive " for a couple of months. They don't have a heck of a lot for the first gen venture, but I saw in the catalog lights to replace the reflector on the trunk. The dealer search on the site only lists 3 for NY and non of them ar very close to me.

  10. The '96 - '01 Royal Stars have a different rear suspension than the 2nd gen Ventures, and no one makes any leveling links for them, so I'll be making my own. That opens up the option of being able to raise the bike any amount I want. Since the 1st gens are said to handle so well I compared the rake angle of the 1st gen to the 2nd gen, and did some calculating to see just how much the leveling links change things. The rake angle on a 1st gen is 28.5*, and the 2nd gen is 30*. The 1" that the standard leveling links raise the bike changes the angle of the bike by .86*, creating a fork rake angle of 29.1*. To get to a 28.5* fork rake angle the back of the bike would have to be raised by 1 3/4". I could always split the difference somewhere by raising the rear say like 1 1/4" and dropping the front 1/2". As long as the rear rise plus front drop equals 1 3/4" it's all the same thing. Myself, I would prefer the full rear rise for the most cornering clearance, and I'm such a tall guy I wouldn't mind the higher seat either. This weekend I propped the rear wheel up 1 3/4" with boards and sat on the bike and it felt fine. My only real concern is that with that much rise on the bike the kickstand will be a little short. On the boards in the garage it seemed okay, but I wonder how it would be if a parking lot somewhere was sloped the wrong way or something. So the question is - for those of you with the standard 1" leveling links, how much concern is there about the slope of the ground where you park? Any at all? I'd like to get a feel for how much rear rise I could get away with as far as the kickstand length is concerned. I'd really like to not have to make these more than once. I suppose with some extra work I could design an adjustable link. Then I could make a height change in only a few minutes. Thoughts anyone?
  11. Can anyone help with directions to install a headlight visor on a 2nd gen.
  12. For those who have not met me (well, I haven't been exactly over-active) my name is Charlie (yep, another one). Anyway I bought a new 06 Midnight Venture last spring, and I am loving it, except that I find it a bit too much to handle when loaded 2-up. I am 68, beed riding since I was 14, but now the old legs seem to object trying to balance over a thousand pounds of motorcycle, so as I see it my only SAFE options are to sell Midnight or trike it. Well, I had the bike out for a ride today and now the answer is obvious: anything but sell the bike! I have been in contact with Tri-Wing and I'm pretty well sold on their kits, but I would like some opinions, like, am I biting off too much to chew by planning to do it myself? How much time does it take? Are there any special skills/tools required? I should also mention I am planning to retire in June or July (second time) so obviously finances are a consideration. But the bottom line is, I am JUST NOT READY TO GIVE UP MY MOTORCYCLE! By the way, I had a 1st Gen, an '87 that I bought new in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I sold it here in Raleigh in 1998 here in Raleigh, NC where we live now. And NO, I will NOT enter into the 1st Gen vs. 2nd Gen fracus! I loved my 1st Gen, and I love my Midnight! Thanks in advance for any advice/help/warnings. Charlie
  13. Does anyone know if gears from a Royal Star or 2nd Gen are interchangeable with a 1st Gen? Looking to use a 5th gear and pinion out of a Royal Star or 2nd Gen as an overdrive for a 1st Gen.
  14. Will a battery tender that kicks itself out when the battery is charged (green light/red light) damage a battery if left on 2-3months? I've had one hooked up to my RSV 2 gen. since December and have heard different opinions. What is your experience? Thanks and happy scooting to us all soon with spring on the way.
  15. Have any of you fine folks retrofitted rear speakers onto your first gen? How'd ya do it? Jeremy

    Heel/toe Shifter

Has anyone made a heel/toe shifter for a 1st gen VR? If so, i would like to discuss this. Steve
  20. Alright folks, I know you've all scoured the internet for parts for your bikes. Lots of 'em hard to find, most of 'em you get outbid at the last second, sometimes even costing you more than the bike did by the time the auctions are over. Well, I just found this ebay store that I think may get a lot of you excited. http://stores.ebay.com/PinWall-Cycle-Parts-Inc_Yamaha-Venture-Royal-Star_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ4QQftidZ2QQtZkm 704 Items. 24 pages of 1st and 2nd gen parts and accessories. ALL OF THEM WITH BUY IT NOW!!! And from looking at the prices, looks like some really good deals. About the only items I didn't find on there were trailer hitches and Carbs. It looks like these guys are based out of Ohio too, so maybe if we ask nicely we can get Don to take that nice new trailer he got and pick up parts for us.
