  1. The cradel for the Garmin 765T has a port for an external microphone. Does any one know if the external microphone cable for the Garmin could be wired into the 5 pin cable on the 2G so that you can use a regular head set microphone instead of a Blurtooth enabled head set and a Zumo 550 setup? The 765T is so much cheaper than the Zumo 550, so if you could still make a hands free phone call that would be ideal.
  2. Okay. I've had a Garmin 2730 for a few years now and love it. It has XM which when working is nice to have. But another Garmin antenna has gone bad and I refuse to buy another one. The GPS also has a MP 3 player which I've never used. I think I'd like to put some songs on the MP 3 but have no idea how to go about doing this. I don't want to start paying a dollar a song to download and transfer. Are there really any free download sites that are legit and won't get me in a jam or is that a myth? Also, I've heard of people downloading music CD's to something like an Ipod. Can this also be done to this MP3?
  3. I have a Garmin GPS that it suddenly seems to take a loong time to find the Satellites. - Maybe 5 or 10 minutes. My wife couldn't get it to locate ANY while she was in Dallas. She finally gave up and got the paper map out. Recently, while on a 2-week trip I carried the GPS in the leather bag on my windshield. Could the vibrations have damaged it? craigr
  4. Mounted the XM antenna (GXM-30) for the Garmin Zumo 500 today. Used a Kuryakyn inspection sticker plate (part #9168) mounted to the right side mirror post. Drilled two 5/32" holes in the Kury plate, using the Garmin antenna's steel baseplate as a template. Screwed the baseplate to the antenna from below (screws & baseplate provided with the GXM-30 antenna). Used two screws and nylon locking nuts to secure the baseplate to the Kury plate. Screwed the right side mirror post through the Kury plate's mounting hole. Easy installation, works great, looks good and is pretty secure. Pics below. Now it's time to go out riding & enjoy the XM radio.............
  5. We're getting ready to do another Saturday Day Trip. This time through South Eastern MN and North Eastern Iowa. We've ridden some of that are before and the roads and views are wonderful. Total trip distance will be 358 miles according to Google. Google Trip Map This will give us a chance to use our new GPS. We picked up a Garmin 205W GPS. Yeah I know, it does not mount to the bike or have soooo many other features. Well I don't want one for me to look at while driving. I don't need the extra distraction. It's for my wife aka navigator to use then she can tell me where to go. We also picked up a boaters GPS protector case that is clear on one side and still works with the touch screen so she can keep it around her neck on the lanyard and still use it on the road.
  6. Just placed an ad for a new GARMIN 2009 Map Update. The package is sealed, has never been opened and comes with an Authorization Code. I bought this to upgrade my ZUMO 550 but got a new one that already has the upgrade. First $80 takes it.
  7. http://www.trapster.com/index.php Supposedly free service for red light camera's speed traps etc can be used with you tom tom Garmin some phones. Etc
  8. I am hooking up an Old Garmin StreetPilot III to my 2005 RSV. I read somewhere on the site to break open the The 5 pin din inside the fairing with the red tape on it. I have it hooked up and the Garmin Lady will announce through my headset only and not the speakers and the radio or CB will not mute when she talks. I figured out the red tape one is the intercom. Does the intercom normally mute the radio when you talk ? Can I get inbetween another set of 5 pin dins that will let me hear the Garmin Directions and mute the music or CB when she talks ? PS No one told me I have to be an octopus to get the light bar back on !
  9. Hi Guys Not getting any answers on the Audio Forum.
  10. I just aquired a 2005 RSV. Fantastic Bike although I will miss the speed of my "For Sale Valkyrie" I am trying to install a Garmin Stree Pilot III and took all the screws out of the inside of the fairing and it wont budge. Can someone tell me where the tabs are located and how to split off the fairing without breaking anythig ? I need to get into the 5 pin Din inside the fairing. I tried geting in between the passenger Din under the rear seat but it did not work. Could not hear the Garmin Lady on my headset or speakers. I did not find how to split the fairing in any of the Service Manuals or Parts List. Any help would be appreciate. Pictures even better !!!! Dave Nager X Goldwing & Valkyrie Rider Lovin the RSV !
  11. Finally got a moment to install my Garmin. I placed it on the RH bar. It is integrated with the audio system through the cassette input. I gutted a cassette player and installed a switchbox. Now I flip a switch and the Garmin works with the intercom, CB, and the radio. The radio is cut off and then all the Garmin takes over. I also installed an XM receiver on the trunk. Finished the whole thing with a Buddy Rich microphone interface. Now, we have MP3 input, XM, cell phone, and navigation. I forget who sent me the cassette player, but you may claim a free switch interface conversion whenever you desire. Thanks for the extra unit. Things to do yet: 1. Line the box to eliminate rattles. 2. Solder up an audio triggered priority switch for the MP3 to Garmin. This will eliminate the manual switch and allow for navigation prompts when switched to MP3. 3. Finish the box cover. It will be a flat cover with a piano hinge. Sapper Medic has a line on refrigerator magnetic sealing material to hold down the cover. 4. Install the 12VDC socket for MP3/Cell Phone charging. It will go inside the pocket. The 2820 works great. I need to tweak the volume settings for the Bluetooth yet. It picks up my Motorola Q9c very well. It pulls in the phonebook well. My phonebook has a few hundred entries so it takes about 1 minute. The 2820 has a remote control, so Maggie can work it from the navigation platform (rear seat). It does not have a battery or an SD slot. However, it hooks via USB to the computer for using MapSource software. Volume from the system in all modes is fantastic. I like the wide screen and the buttons. JB
  12. We got a Garmin Nuvi for xmas and haven't ever used it. We are going to Banff on bike this summer and just tried to put in an address that we are staying at up there. Does this thing not have Canadian maps?
  13. To make a long story short; Yesterday I received an e-mail from Garmin telling me map updates were available....When I went on their site it offered an update disk for $69. or a lifetime update download service for $119. Sounded like a good deal so I took it... The download took over 6 hours on a high speed DSL Then I tried to open the downloaded file which proceeded to grind in the background for 45 minutes totally blocking all attempts to stop it - I thought I had just gotten a virus !!!! I ended up doing a cold boot by turning off the power !!!! After another round of the same I put the download in the trash and deleted it. I then sent 2 e-mails to Garmin explaining the problem and asking for an immediate refund - both as a reply to the purchase confirmation and on the "my garmin" site as a customer service complaint. Today, having received no reply, I called them -the call took well over an hour!!! In the end, the best they would do is promise a refund in "two or three billing cycles" !!!!!!! Needless to say, I unloaded on them the problem of constant freeze-ups and resets by battery removal !!! NO SOLUTION !!!! I asked how they could expect someone to dedicate 6 hour dowloads two or three times a year - NO ANSWER, but the person confirmed that just to open that file on Windows Vista it would take over 1/2 hour!!!! Wow!!!! on mine , it went past 45 minutes and was still going, and I have a fast machine !!!!! So folks, I don't know about you- but I am through throwing money at Garmin and tollerating the bad service and nonexistant response. I don't do business with companies that don't care for their customers.... Next time it's another brand.......
  14. Sells the cable used on the Garmin to make the blue tooth phone work through my headsets?
  15. Where is the best place to tap in for power for my new Garmin 2720? I have the outer Fairing off at the moment for some other stuff... is there a good place to draw power from under there? Thanks

  19. Major kudos to Garmin! In Oct. bought a refurb. Garmin Streetpilot 2720 off the web. Had one year factory warranty. Been using it off and on in the cage. Friday after work, I decided to mount the GPS it permantly and hardwire it in. (Bought mount and used directions I got from the good folks here!) Long story short, after finishing it all, hooked it up only to find out the power connector on the back of the unit broke. Damn, only two weeks to Bike Week. Friday I called and they're tech support was only open to 6pm EDT. Damn Damn! Sent an e-mail, hoping to hear back by Monday. By Friday night at 9p, I recieved a return e-mail about a return authorization! Mailed it Sat. morning, Garmin got it Monday Morning, and got it back today!!!They didn't repair it, just replaced the WHOLE unit. Even copied the data from mine to the new unit! Itd soo nice to do business with a company that does its best to please its customers! Hoping if anyone is on the fence about buying one, I would wholeheartily recommend Garmin!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. I have read a lot about the Garmin Zumo 550. Has anyone used the Tom Tom Rider 2?

  22. I plan to direct wire my 2720 street pilot directly from my battery tender connection under the tank and to the handlebars..Question.. should I wrap the harness with rf tape or something or is it alright just to use it as is?... also talked to Paul Robbins at Garmin ,great guy.. a rider himself..(913) 393 8200.. (ext 5934) I wanted to order the wireing harness from him (35.00)..He is sending me the harness FREE without shipping cost..I told him I didn' but the unit from Garmin.. it was a refirb...He stated to me that it didn't matter and Garmin stands by their customers..He also stated that I should look under the unit to find 4 small air holes..Told me to insure that no condensation would ever form on the screen if I drill 4 one eighth holes into my ram cradle directally under those holes..didn't know that..now you do to...If you ever need any assistance from Garmin I would suggest you call Paul directly..You'll make a new friend..Cant say enough about the great service I recieved from Paul.....I have also fired off a letter off to Garmin telling them about their great customer service..
  23. Do any of you use the XM radio thru the Garmin 550. If so where did you get your antenna (GXM 30) and how much did it cost. Do you get good reception with it and any troubles with it. Thanks for the info. Lyle
  24. and thought it might be interesting to a lot of the folks on VR.org. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=135&pID=15000
  25. OK folks, I got home late last night and barely had time to play with the new Zumo 550 before going to bed. This morning I stuck it in my work car so that I could try it out a bit today. Now, my work car is a 2008 Dodge Caravan. It has an AM/FM/CD unit with RCA type inputs on the front for auxiliary in. I use it all the time with my Sirius radio with a 1/8" stereo to dual RCA plugs to run from the Sirius unit to the car's stereo. The way it works is that when you plug an audio source into the aux input jacks on the stereo, it automatically switches to aux. I simply unplugged the stereo plug from the Sirius and plugged it into the audio out jack of the Garmin car mount. It worked great at first but then it started losing the aux in signal. There is an indicator on the stereo that says "Aux" when something is plugged in. If it is on aux though and there is no input signal, the display says "No Aux Found". It will show "Aux" and work fine for a few minutes and then "No Aux Found" for a few minutes and during those times there is no MP3 nor navigation prompts heard from the Garmin. Also, I notice that if I press the pause button on the Garmin MP3 player, I also lost navigation prompts as long as the MP3 is paused. I'm thinking that all of this has something to do with the way the aux input works on my cars stereo but was wondering if any of you have run into a similar problem. The only way I can double check it would be to get it installed on the bike and go for a VERY cold ride.
