  1. Got this e-mail today. My question is what was the price before. $90 for lifetime updates sounds pretty cheap to me, but want to compare to what it was before. Wouldn't sound like such a great deal is say it was $100 before. Now if it was like $250 that's a good savings. We've lowered the price for map updates. Now it costs less to keep your maps updated. This is great news, because streets, highways, and points of interest are constantly changing. So now when you take advantage of our quarterly map updates it costs less to make sure you have access to the most current map data. It’s very easy to do, and you have two great update options from which to choose nüMaps Lifetime™ This one-time purchase, now as low as $89.99, lets you download the most up-to-date map information available...for the lifetime of your Garmin device. No monthly fees, no maintenance costs. You can update every time a quarterly map update is released and not pay again.
  2. Checked the Garmin site today and there was an software upgrade availible for the Gramin Zumo 660...for you folks who have one...you might ease on over there, plug yours into the PC and let it do you an upgrade.
  3. A brief history: When I purchased my '05 it came wired up and with a GPS mount on the handlebar(even found a sunshade in the trunk). But, the previous owner took the unit. Through some detective work it was determined that the old unit was a Garmin 2620. I talked to a guy at a GPS booth and he said the 2730 will also fit the mount, and has the same wiring, but is a far superior unit. So .... I have been scouring Ebay, Craiglist, want ads, google searches etc. for years now. They go for about $125 to $150 used, missing parts, not map updated etc. on Ebay. But I could go out and buy a new Garmin for $150 .... but not wired for it and I'd have to buy a mount. Getting frustrated trying to bid for the things (why would so many people want 5 year old GPS units for the same price as a new ones is beyond me!) Before I ask .... what would you do? .... keep in mind I have unique hands .... extra thumbs!!! So, what would you do.... keep trying or is it worth all this effort for an old unit, should I rip out the wiring and go for a newer unit??? Thanks!
  4. I have Garmin Zumo 660 and am using Garmin Roadtrip on a Mac. I am having trouble uploading routes to the device. Someone sent me a GPX file and I was able to get that onto the device. I tried making some routes on my own but have been unable to get them to appear onto the device. If anyone is using this gps/computer combo, any advice would be much appreciated. I plan on having a buddy send me another gpx to see if it will load. BTW I have an 8gb micro sd card in it and tried putting the gpx on the card and into the internal memory. No joy either way.
  5. I'm having a dickens of a time getting audio thru my headsets. When I play XM radio thru the speakers they will draw police attention because it can be loud. As soon as I switch to the headsets the volume drops to less than half. When using the headsets with the CB on and the XM on, I have to have the XM volume so loud it almost causes ringing in my ears just so that I get a faint CB reception. I know there is an answer - I just can't seem to find it. HELP !! btw - I have a Garmin 450
  6. For those of you contemplating buying a Garmin, yesterday in Motorcyclist magazine that they are offering a $100 rebate on 4 different zumo models. The address that they posted in the mag was www.garmin.com/zumorebate
  7. Looking for a gps. I know lots of threads, but looking for feedback on who has a 665 and how you like it todate. Also any pictures of how mounted it and antenna mt would be appreciated. Did everything come with it to mount? I think the price is nuts, but I want gps with built-in XM and Garmin has a $100 rebate going right now on zumo's which helps. Thanks in advance for imput.
  8. The Garmin Nuvi 750 is on sale at tigerdirect.ca for 149.97 cdn i thought it looked like a good price for a GPS with all the features. It is a refurb, but my current unit is a refurb purchased about 30 months ago and I think it still comes with a 1 yr warranty from Garmin. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4550952&Sku=G145-0198 Brian
  9. I'm as dumb as a brick when it comes to anything bluetooth. Here's what I'm thinking about doing, and wanted to ask for input on whether it's even possible. I just picked up a Garmin Streetpilot c550 with bluetooth capabilities. It also has the MP3 player. What I wonder is... can I get the Garmin, and a helmet bluetooth head set, and my bluetooth cell phone to interphase with each other? The Garmin addresses the ability to link to the cell phone, but can the helmet set send and receive audio and be the primary controll???????? Anyone ever done this type of set up? I like the Garmin as it has the same sunlight screen as the Zumo550. It is smaller but easier to find a place on a crowded 1stGen dash. Any thoughts would be appreciated....
  10. I have borrowed a friends GPS and one thing I thought it would have is elevation. My son bought my grandson a GPS several years ago and it was pretty basic, but it had elevation for the location you were. Evidently, this Garmin does not have that feature. Do other GPS's have the elevation feature? RandyA
  11. I had a Garmin 550 that I bought in 07. At Christmas I got a new 255W (I think that's the model) and I dpownloaded the new maps 2010.3. Can I use that update on the older 550 as well? Or will it somehow disable the older 550 unit? Thanks. Spotsy
  12. Another new one for bikes: The Garmin 220. http://www.thegpsstore.com/Garmin-Zumo-220-Motorcycle-Navigation-System-P2326.aspx [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-3-5-Inch-Bluetooth-Portable-Navigator/dp/B0035JERXY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1269021580&sr=8-2]Amazon.com: Garmin zumo 220 3.5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator: Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51O63gbSLyL.@@AMEPARAM@@51O63gbSLyL[/ame]
  13. Does anybody have a Garmin nüvi 765T GPS? I am thinking about getting one and would like to see an instlation photo or two and maybe some comments on how well it works.
  14. I have a Garmin Streetpilot 2820 on the left handlebar. I also have a Sirius Stiletto 2 satellite radio on the right handlebar. I've noticed in the streetpilot literature that with the right antenna, it can receive XM (for traffic, weather and music). Since I already have a Sirius subscription, I've been trying to figure out if the Garmin can receive a Sirius signal (if so I would consider putting the Sirius radio in my car and using the Garmin as the satellite receiver on the 2Gen). Web research is leading me to think the answer is no, something about XM and Sirius having different reception constraints. Are there any experts here that can definitively say either way what the capability is between Garmin and Sirius? David
  15. Here is a little program that you can make yours or someone Else's voice work on your Garmin. I was thinking of having my Daughter Enter the voice commands. Like Daddy, I have to recalculate again damn it ! Or you can have your wife or girlfriend yell at you when you made the wrong turn! I think It would be fun to try. Just thought I would pass it along to everybody! have fun with it. http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4754 Jeff
  16. Is anyone using this phone from Garmin and AT&T ? Thanks for any advice. Cb
  17. Does anyone know if there's a cable available to hardwire the Garmin Nuvi 765T. Any info would be appreciated.
  18. I was at costco and they had a garmin 665 and 1460. Which one would be the better. The 1460 is 5 inch screen which I like. Would rather have waterproof. But there is a differance in price if you can find them.
  19. Okay I am attempting to decide which GPS system I should buy. I have a very limited knowledge of these items, so I have a few questions that I would appreciate commits on: 1. In order to have bluetooth connection is it possible to use the existing radio on the Venture? If so is this done by the Buddy Rich cable that I have read about? If not then what must be done? 2. For XM radio on the Garmin unit can the antena be installed inside either the fairing or rear storage area? 3. What is the best mount for the bars? Thanks
  20. January 6, 2010 2:45 PM PST CES: Garmin debuts Zumo 665 motorcyle GPS by Antuan Goodwin Font size Print E-mail Share Post a comment Yahoo! Buzz Share http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/bto/20100106/zumo-665-1.jpg (Credit: Garmin) LAS VEGAS--Most of our readers are pretty familiar with Garmin's Nuvi line of in-car GPS navigators, but most have never heard of the manufacturer's Zumo line of motorcycle GPS devices. At CES 2010, Garmin has added a new top-of-the-line model, the Zumo 665. The 665 replaces the previous Zumo flagship, the 660, but almost matches the previous unit spec for spec. Both units have the same 4.3-inch WQVGA touch screen, removable, rechargeable lithium ion battery, and waterproof construction. Both feature Bluetooth hands-free calling with A2DP stereo audio streaming. Dig a little deeper and you'll find that the new 665 boasts a better battery life (up to five hours versus the 660's three), but the biggest change is the switch to XM NavTraffic and weather from the soon-to-be-defunct MSN Direct network used by the older unit. A cool byproduct of the XM traffic integration is that the Zumo 665 can also stream XM Radio programming through its integrated speaker or to Bluetooth-connected headphones or helmet headsets. Combining an XM Radio tuner and a waterproof GPS device in one housing makes us feel a little better about the Zumo 665's $999 MSRP, but not much. The Zumo 665 motorcycle GPS navigation device is currently available.
  21. Webbikeworld just did a review on the Garmin 660. Though I like the widescreen, I would not consider this an upgrade from my Zumo 550 simply because it does not have the XM radio capability. I'll just stick with what I have thank you very much. For those who don't care about the XM though, it seems to be a pretty good unit. http://www.webbikeworld.com/garmin-gps/garmin-zumo-660-review/
  22. Forgive me for I know that GPS units have been discussed to great extent here, but... I'm just to lazy to sift through so many threads looking for whatever info I can find. But... I'm curious what options we motorcyclists have when it comes to GPS's. I've seen the TomTom Rider/Rider2, and the Garmin 550 & 660. The TomTom doesn't support MP3 playback and at $800 - $900 bucks, the Garmins are a bit expensive for my taste. Not to mention the helmet accessories for the Garmin, which appear to come with the TomTom. What other GPS's do you guys use? I would like one to at least have MP3 playback, be waterproof, and be able to update the maps. Bluetooth would be nice for the cellphone use but not big on my list. A fair price would be nice too. I think it's ridiculous that all because something is for a motorcycle, it should cost 2-4 times as much.
  23. Hi folks. Am looking at buying a garmin GPS unit but am not sure if I am comparing apples to oranges! The GPS Garmin I have now is a 265WT and I made a trip by saying 'Go to' (note that I am in Swift Current, Sask. Canada) to Jasper, Alberta, Canada. I then added North Battleford, Sask. Canada as a 'Via' route. However, by doing this the GPS wants to take me into North Battleford town (not necessary) and will not let me choose the route through Edmonton, Alberta. I have created this trip with my choses routes through Edmonton and a little jog in the highway between Edmonton and Jasper. I made it at mapquest.com and here it is. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Swift+Current&1s=SK&1y=CA&1l=50.292759&1g=-107.800552&1v=CITY&2c=Jasper&2s=AB&2y=CA&2l=52.873638&2g=-118.082649&2v=CITY#b/maps/m:map:8:52.818052:-108.391253::::::1:1::::/l:::Swift+Current:SK::CA:50.292759:-107.800552:city::1:::/l::Provincial+Route+216+W;+Anthony+Henday+Dr+NW:::::53.456428:-113.344398:latlng::2:::/l::Provincial+Route+22:::::53.722831:-115.130195:latlng::2:::/l:::Jasper:AB::CA:52.873638:-118.082649:city::1:::/io:1:::::f:en_US:M::/bl:/e Kinda long address isn't it. Could someone who has a Garmin GPS that can download routes do this on their machine and make sure that all the particular streets (in Edmonton) etc do come through? If it does, then I think I want a GPS that lets me download routes so I can plan my motorcycle trips all winter and then download them with all the correct turns etc rather than letting the GPS decide which highway etc to use. Thanks guys and it sure will help me decide what GPS unit to buy.
  24. I'm planning to purchase a Garmin 765T. Does anyone have this unit hardwired? And is there a way you can use your Bluetooth phone with this system in combination with a headset.
  25. Has anyone used the Mirror Frame mount for their Garmin? It looks as if this mount would have the mirror threaded through it and like it would work well on the RSV. Also, if you are using it what length arm did you go with? The item description is: Motorcycle / Bike MIRROR FRAME Mount for GARMIN NUVI 200W 205W 250W 255W 260W 265WT 465T GPS
