  1. Wondering if I might have a couple of guys that might want to tackle a valve adjustment on the iron horse before we get into spring? I do not have any experence at it but with the write up from VGoose it looks to be fairly easy just time consuming. We could do it in my garage or at someone else's. I do not have a carbon one lift adapter but I do have a craftsman jack. Should have all the tools needed accept for the shim kit and special tool. Also would need a carbtune for after we adjust the valves. If we get some intrest maybe we could round one up from another member or I could just buy one. Let me know what you think out there. I know I have a grill that cooks some mean steaks, and the garage refrig has cold beer. Brian Shoemaker 706-635-1580
  2. Hey All, I have a question about the 4' flourescent type fixtures that many put up in the garage, I am looking for a good quality reasonably priced set up...can you help a brother out??
  3. I keep my bike in a WheelDock wheel chock when it is in the garage. On Friday night I was cleaning the bike and absent-mindedly put the kickstand up. On saturday I was getting ready to roll it out and remembered it had a full tank of gas, so I went to put some seafoam in. I ended up spilling it on the gas tank and was worried about what it would do to the paint. So I ended up cleaning that up, breaking my routine because I started to get into a rush. I backed it out of the garage and was startled when it kept going when I tried to put it on the kickstand. What a shock. It is tough to get back up, it surprised me when it happened and I had trouble thinking strait. Any way, I did get it up, but remember to check the kickstand.
  4. I know for the most part snow is an unwelcome sight and dreaded. But....It's the 16th of January and we could still see our lawn, not spots or parts but the entire lawn, flower beds etc... For those of us who live in the desert areas, snow is a necessity in order to have water during the rest of the year, so, today the snow came. I had to put the bikes in their winter spots in the garage so I could fit both cars in the garage and I actually used the snow blower (I started it in Nov. to make sure it was running and ready) But for a short time, I welcome the snow to the Intermountain region and look forward to the spring. 5. We've contracted to have new countertops installed in our kitchen. Currently we have a laminate top which is 3/4 inch thick with a 1 1/2 inch facing edge on it. We are switching to granite which is 1 1/4 inches thick. To complicate matters we have an appliance garage in the corner which rests on the countertop with the countertop screwed into it from the bottom. Because of the thickness difference I'm going to need to trim 1/2 an inch from the bottom of the garage. The garage is a full cabinet with sides and back. Does anyone have a clever way to trim that neatly while in place. I'm thinking one of the oscillating multi tools with a 270 degree saw blade might work. Taking the cabinet off the wall is not an option because the cabinets on either side would have to come down first and one of those cabinets is about 10 feet long and fully loaded. The granite company won't cut it for me and if I can't devise a reasonable way to trim the cabinet the deal is off. Any ideas? below are photos of the cabinet. Thanks, Dennis

    New toy!

Robin and I took a ride in the truck today to look at a timeout camp trailer. Guess what climbed into the back of the truck? Yep a 2004 standard size trailer. Not to bad condition. Needs to be aired out, doing that now. Has a little mold on the carpet. going to air and dry it out for a couple days then give it a good cleaning. Can't post pic's cause it's in the garage at this time. I don't have enough head room in the garage to set it up.Can't wait till warm weather.

  8. Now that I work nights and have to leave the bike out in the cold I've found a small puddle under the bike in the a.m. (I suppose it could be from sitting next to a HD) . Anyway, Idon' think it is condensation running down, it is definitely not oil, so I think it is coolant. It does not leak out while in the garage at home. Could the temp cause some kind of purging of the coolant system? And could this be related to the whine I'm hearing? Thanks
  9. Cold weather riding with a Tall Wide Clearview, Buddy's knee wind deflectors and extra clothing makes for a fun ride.. near 32'F and 0'C today, high winds meh.. gotta get out when the going is good.. All works well but my radio decided to play silly bugger.. Here's what I experienced, and I am hoping it's really only because of the cold.. Riding down the road, the LCD panel would go out and come back on.. flicker.. stay on for a while and go off.. not bump related, not turn related.. just does it at odd times.. then it changed channels on it's own.. and of course its on that type of channel ya just hate to listen to but the controller won't let you change channels.. it's locked in on that one.. argh.. now what? Silence is golden after that. However, I get the bike back into the heated garage and I cannot duplicate the problem.. argh.. Touch and yank and jiggle everything I can reach, bang on this pull on that and nothing.. it works all perfect.. Can't duplicate it in the garage.. On another note, I added speaker baffles behind the speakers recently and wow, I didn't think they would make that much of a difference.. but the sound is richer coming out of the speakers.. more dynamic.. not bad for 8 bucks a pair of foam baffles..
  10. Valerie and I spent the weekend riding the Cherohala Skyway and Deal's Gap and while there we stayed in Tellico Plains at the Lodge at Tellico. What a treat! We heard of the place just before we left to go and I posted a note here asking about it. So cancelled our hotel in Marysville and booked with the Lodge. We arrived late Friday afternoon and received a friendly greeting from Walt, the proprietor as he was taking BBQ from the smoker, more about that later. We checked in and he showed us to the garage to park the bike and then pointed us to our building. The lodge is made up of 4 large cabins with each one divided into quarters. Each room is very large and comfortable with a king bed, sleep sofa and bathroom. Some also have a soaking tub and fireplace. The rooms also have wifi and Direct TV. The place was spotless. The basement of one of the cabins is the bike garage. Those that opt for the garage are given an electronic key to the door to come and go as needed. In another basement there is a game room with a pool table, ping pong, foosball and air hockey. After resting a bit we walked back to the office/restaurant for dinner where we had a very tasty meal of pulled pork and fried catfish. The meal was a great value and it was just a few yards from our room so we didn't have to get back on the bike. http://www.lodgeattellico.com/default.htm Prior to starting on our ride Saturday we stopped at the Tellico Grains Bakery for breakfast. Afterward, we rode across the Cherohala and Deal's Gap twice each. A great day of riding although it was a bit cool, cold on the Cherohala which was at 37 degrees each time we went across. I've posted a few photos at www.traynorphoto.com/tellico Dennis
  11. Here is mine. Not boasting here, just thought it would be nice to see some different ideas. I know of at least two members here whom are in the process of building a garage. My garage has a small 4'x6' porch and the garage is 28' wide and 40' long. Used sheet rock on the inside walls,4" insulation in walls and 6" in the ceiling with insulated 10' wide x 8' tall garage doors . Never been below 38 degrees in my garage with out heat and at 5 below zero out side. Love my garage ...... 12. Wife's cousin came across this. I couldn't resist. 94 goldwing with trailer. Excellent condition with a little over 50k on her. Looks like I'm gonna need a bigger garage.

  14. I just finish building and painting a wooden turntable for my bike. Backing out of the garage was almost impossible and turning the bike around inside the garage was not an option so I decided to build a turntable. A couple of 2X12, a 2X6, 8 ball bearings (5/8 I.D.), a 5/8 hardwood dowel rod, a 12" turntable bearings, some screws, a few woodworking tools, many hours of work et voila!!!! Total cost around $70 My first test is a real success and I can now easily turn around my 800 pounds machine, the only thing left to do is secure the center of the turntable to the concrete floor in the garage and install a lock so the table doesn't swivel while going up or down on it. I have included a few pictures for those who may be interested.
  15. Finally got the trailers done. The blue/black is mine and the black one is my brother in-law Don's. They are not 100% perfect, there are some blemishes, but all in all, they came out pretty nice considering they were painted in a garage. Now to get them to maintainance day for some pinstripe. Can't wait!!
  16. Hey All, Dana (csmbrek) will be coming by to our place tomorrow @ 2pm to have some fixin going on with his bike. Nothing spectacular, but if anyone is a out and about or needs some basic maintenance done, the garage will be open @ 2 as I have half a day to work tomorrow. Iffin you can or want to make it PM/email me for an address
  17. Well, I purchased my first 1989 Yamaha Venture Royale, but the problem is I can't cram it into the shed with my other bikes lol. So, until my garage gets built (probably another year) I need a durable cover to withstand the elements (all year long). What covers do you guys have (I know most of you probably have garages or larger sheds).
  18. Gentlemen/Ladies... A month or so ago I purchased a new to me '05 RSV down in New Port Richey, in the lovely state of Florida, and with some planning and a great seller, the bike was moved into a garage of a co worker of mine, who is retired down in Sarasota. It's sitting in a nice carpeted garage, under cover on the battery tender, full of premium gas and Stabil. The plan is to fly down at the end of March and ride back to Missouri, accompanied by my lovely tailgunner Terrie, following the gulf all the way to New Orleans, then heading north to Kansas City, over a 7 day period. This is all dependent on the weather! Well, to make my long story endless..... I would like to go over/service the bike, install some leveling links, crashbar supports, my Garmin 660 with the Buddyrich cable, and perhaps a new F4 windshield before I depart from there, and wondered if anyone in Sarasota or surrounding areas, would be able to help, by way of a garage and/or wrenches, in getting this work done, before I head back. I work on all my vehicles/ bikes myself, but have never worked on a RSV. Splitting the fairing would be the first lesson. The leveling links, well that is just wrenching. Just need a jack. I can swing wrenches, but where the bike is sitting, there are no wrenches, and hauling everything I may need is not sounding like a good idea to me, since with my luck I may need something specific, and can't get around down there with the bike apart. What say ye? Anyone want to meet a crazy ex South African, now Missourian? Maybe a little meet and greet/eat. I would appreciate any/all the help I can get. Thanks Brian
  19. Just curious if this would work on my bike? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C-Bxifv2Pk]YouTube - BMW F800S Garage Door Opener www.vet.co.uk[/ame]
  20. 1999 RSV with 57,000 miles When I put my blinkers on or when I push to cancel, switch feels kind of mushy, and sticks a bit. Can I just shoot some lube in there? Or is that a bad idea? If I do have to take it apart to clean it, what do I need to watch out for? I can already imagine some little spring flying out and hiding in a far corner of the garage. Thanks, Ross
  21. I am going tomorrow to go look at this bike and from what he tells me I think it will be in my garage. I just need to find a trailer hitch for it. http://treasure.craigslist.org/mcy/2195401066.html
  22. It's Friday, it's snowing, and I just don't feel like it!! Besides, just as fast as I brush the snow off the windows they get filled up again! Soooo, good day to tinker in the garage...
  23. When I bought my 2nd Gen the PO gave me an extra front tire. He changed it out before he headed out for a 2000 mile trip on the bike. It looks like it as about 2/3 tread left and is in great shape. I just want to get it out of my garage. I really don't want to try to ship it, but if anybody's close, they can have it. Just let me know.
  24. Has anybody ever had a power surge in the garage take out 2 battery tenders at once? There are 2 bikes in the garage, my RSTD and brothers Heritage. He has been having problems with his holding any kind of a charge (it doesn't), and he always plugs it in to tender. I never had a problem before New Years eve, I unplugged mine and rolled it out of the shed. Tried to start but cranked really slow. Fired right up after jumping. I took battery out, went to O'reilly, they tested it and said it was fine but low charge. Tender is a year old and showed the green full charge light when I unplugged from the bike. So I guess now that I have given a little background, there are 2 questions. First, would a power surge take out both tenders but not stuff like fridge in garage? And if that happened, could it have gone thru his tender and actually fried something in his Harley but not gotten thru the tender to my RSTD? Of course he is getting this from me cause mine starts and runs fine. So then he does this.
  25. I was putting some stuff away for Winter and found this shiny Midnight Venture in the corner of my garage. I think I liked riding it but might need some help learning how to ride it again. What do you think Don you up for giving some lessons?
