  1. Would have loved to have made this one. Couldn't have afforded any of them but it would have been fun to look around. http://www.auctionsamerica.com/events/all-lots.cfm?SaleCode=LV12
  2. I like looking through the Instructables website, because I feel handy even if I am not. I get their newsletter with featured projects, and the latest one I received had an instructable that some of you might like: Motorcycle Lowers (low deflectors) You may or may not have need for this Instructable, but browsing the related ones might be fun and spark your imagination. Heck, some of you might enjoy the Swirled White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake one more! Dave
  3. I have 87k on a 06 RSTD, I do a lot of riding.. Also I pull a trailer and ride double. I am having some high speed slipping of the clutch, but it still pulls well. Should I change or not.. If so should I go with OMG or upgrade?? Also should I order the Disk and spring as a set or separate. Aint this fun. I think this is one ov the best sites for these bikes for information and to learn a few tips .
  4. We are going to Australia for a few days. Linda & I will be leaving Dec. 6th and return on the 15th. 5 days in Melbourne and 2 in Sydney or 6 and 1, depends on how much fun we have in Melbourne. Looking forward to seeing the other side of the world and doing some FISHING.
  5. I am thinking about buying a Venture. I worked in a Yamaha Store when I was a kid, and the owner let me take a new 1984 Venture home on weekends. I rode it pretty hard. A few years later, I bought a 1984 Aspencade. The Honda did not handle nearly as well as the Venture. I never really enjoyed the Aspencade unless I was rolling straight down the highway. I took it up through Northern Arkansas on some wonderful roads, but it required so much concentration to keep the bike going slow enough so as not to drag the pegs/footboards/centerstand that it was just not fun. Fast forward to the present. I still like to ride fast. I know that the Goldwing now has a lot more ground clearance/higher lean angle and will go around corners much better than the older Goldwings. So, finally, here is my question. How does the current version of the Venture compare, lean angle-wise? I'm not looking for something with Ninja sportbike handling...But, I don't want to constantly have to be extremely careful not to drag things everytime I take a "spirited" ride down a nice twisty section of asphalt. Surely, there are some "spirited" riders in this group that can advise me. If the Venture doesn't have much of a lean angle prior to throwing sparks, tell me. I really loved that old 84. I think it was called a "Venture Royale". It was fast. It could go around a corner, and it had a nice stereo. Now, I am wanting something comfortable that can go long distances, carry me, my wife and 3 days worth of clothes and be fun in the twisties. Thanks for your advice. dana

    Indy GP

The Indy GP was this last weekend and they had bikes on Meridian down town on the circle I met up with Bob and Dano and a few others here and there. I counted 6 ventures out of probably 5 thousand HDs there. They want to make Indy a bike week like Daytona at some point from what I have heard but man it's a mad house! It was fun but they need someone who knows how to organize and put one on. I did see a few Indians running around and only 4 victories and one Vision and it was getting a lot of attention. Seen a little bit of everything
  9. This is fun...check it out. http://dalesdesigns.net/rock-on.htm

    Sturgis 2011

So who's going to Sturgis this year? Myself and my group will be staying at Glencoe again this year in the Motorcycle-Only camping area, right next to where the sportbike rider got killed last year. Departing Amarillo area on or about the 3rd or 4th, arriving on or about the 4th or 5th of August, departing around the 13th. Sure would be fun to break in some newbies! ( I mean show you around...) Anyone interested in a meet-n-eat in the Beautiful Black Hills, post here!
  11. Well, the adventure is over for me, back home and so sad to see a recess until the next International Rally. It was great to meet so many of you, riding / eating / yakking, and from some, watching and learning as members fixed members bikes. I will never forget The awesome Chili Cookoff - with fabulous fish taco's / wraps thrown in. What started off in fun and maybe as a joke, became a fun way of sharing some good times: Jan/Carol/Dave, Terry/Erv, and Black Owl all did a stupendous job making everyone happy and full one night. The rides - short or long in length - were awesome, that is sure some pretty country around there and thank you to Kurt for putting the maps together. Thank you to Rocket for getting the ball rolling on this years trailer raffle Dave/Jan for all of their assistance from the shirt design and handling the shirt orders, and for the unselfish and generous assisting during the entire rally itself. TO ALL, who lent a hand at one point or another, to all that participated in our various "antics" (as I know I am probably missing some names), but most importantly TO ALL OF YOU WHO ATTENDED OUR RALLY THIS YEAR, IF I did this correctly, here are some pictures from my camera - I wish I had more, but - should remember to charge the battery once in a while? https://picasaweb.google.com/loneeagle101/VRInternationalCODYRally2011# Now, I guess the next question would be?????????????? Where is the Rally going to be next year?????????????????? Never too early to start thinking about it -
  12. So I was at the dealer looking for a part for a friends carb and I kept looking at the sport bike alley. A salesman came up to me and after I told him how fun it would be to have a second toy and Ive always wanted to do a burnout and a wheelie, he brought me the keys and said go have some fun but be careful. I had 5 hours with this thing and it was amazing. Teh truth is I only rode for short 20 minute bursts . I stopped homoe had Sausage and peppers. then rode some more. Its amazing how light that bike is and although the grunt wasnt there , I did find myself hitting 90 on residential streets. And the front brake is so touchy. I remember thinking how I was gonna lock up the front. NOTE TO SELF> " no sport bike for me" END NOTE. I couldnt get the smile off my face but unfortunatly i had to leave teh bike there with a dissapointed salesman.
  13. Monday night we had the Chili Cook Off! http://s470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/VR%20org%20Chili%20Cookoff/ A lot of fun and great food. Dave
  14. until the WNY mini rally to be held at PIONEER MOTORSPORTS in Chaffee NY...FREE CAMPING AND LOTS OF FUN TO BE HAD....check it out in the rally section and sign up on the calendar if you plan on attending.....
  15. I rode the bike out Thursday about 3 hours on some good twisties to Montauk State Park. We fished until Sunday morning. All total I landed 120+ trout, all of which were in the catch and release area, so someone else will get to have their fun with them too. Attached is a photo of the fish of the trip. My conservative estimate is 5 lbs but my buddy said he thought he was more like 6 to 6 1/2 lbs. He sure was chunky and fun to catch. Had a good ride home in a sprinkle all the way home. Nice and cool. It was a great trip.
  16. There is a handful of us playing VR scavenger hunt, check out the thread below and join in on the fun. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20503
  17. Well, today starts our Icelandic adventure..We are all packed and ready to go...will be heading to the airport in about 4 hours or so....yesterday our daughter was admitted into the hospital with chest pains...she is 35. They are running test on her today and we will have to await the outcome to see what caused this..Taters like any mother is concerned about leaving without knowing why this happened .....hope we hear something before we leave. Just got off the phone with Jonas (StarFan) and he sounds as excited as we are...This is going to be a fun week for sure. He has made arrangements to spend the week with him at his sisters summer cottage in the mountains on or near a lake...Gonna bring the 44mag. and show him the way we fish for salmon here in the states.. Will post pictures in a day or so....ON WITH THE ADVENTURE !!!!

  19. I got this from my dad a long time ago. He's from the Washington State area. Had an opportunity yesterday to actually use it. Local park hosted a campout night. Kids had fun http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Camping%2006_25_2011/DSCN0017.jpg http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Camping%2006_25_2011/DSCN0037.jpg
  20. I am bikeless for now - but I have something to keep me busy! I went to look at a rusty old 50 Ford F1 and bought this instead! It was restored 10 years ago but is pretty much stock. The guy bought another one to street rod and took the interior and good chrome off this one. So, I'm looking for 53 Mercury parts! Runs great and is going to be fun!!!
  21. I'm a control freak. There. I said it. This means I am not a good passenger, I want to be in control because then I cannot be mad at anyone but me if something untoward happens. I rode, for the first time, on the back of a moto with my husband. I have ridden behind before, but never with Tom. I'm not sure if it's a trust issue or what, but today I decided to give it a try and trust that he won't do stupid things and kill me. It was fun after about 20 minutes. There were some twisties and I've always thought he takes curves to fast, so I just closed my eyes and turned my head toward the curve, so I didn't try and correct with my body. Ended up being a nice ride, my weight on the bike allowed him to be closer to flat feet so he was stable at stops (my biggest concern). We might even do it again!
  22. I'm near Kingston ON, and I'll probably head over the bridge in Gananoque and be riding thru NY along the north shore of Lake Ontario. I have a membership in a campground near Lewiston NY so that could be a potential stop. (I'll never make an iron butt rider!) Is anyone planning on riding down to Don's and passing by or near this way? It's always more fun to ride with company rather than solo. ( my wife won't be making the trip either) LEt me know....maybe we can hook up. It could be possible to go by way of Toronto around to Niagara...but that is a couple hours longer for me.
  23. Since I started actively watching this site a month or so ago, I can't help but notice.....there are ALOT of ice cream lovers on this site. Up until now, I thought there was something wrong with me....friends often make fun of me for "diving off the road" every time I see a DQ. I've finally found a site with like minded, intelligent, fun loving, motorcycle riding ice cream lovers. I think I'm gonna fit right in!
  24. If you could add one tool, or piece of equipment to your shop, what would it be. Add a second choice too if you like In my case I would like a motorcycle lift. I am way past the point where kneeling on the floor is fun. Please feel free to link this thread to anyone who might consider you at Christmas and Birthday
  25. I wish I had the spare time to come up with these toys. http://www.wimp.com/waterpack/#
