  1. I bought a set of Burners high performance driving light kits QH-87CD which cost me only $18, and I mounted it on the edge of my Hoppe Quadzilla fairing on my 2006 Midnight RSTD. I wired it in to the CC port of the fuse box behind the lower front right cowling so that they come on with my headlight when I start the bike up. Check out my pix and here is the the link to the the lights on the Walmart website. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Driving-Light-Kit/16680058
  2. I came into a set of JM headsets today and have a question. When I plug them in and switch them on the front works fine, but the rear h/s does not work and there is still sound coming from the REAR speakers, but at the same volume as the front headset. There is a mic mute installed, and the p.o. did have all the audio stuff apart when he changed out the original trunk that was cracked. I've tried everything that I can remember from my other Venture and nothing works or changes. Both headsets work in the front too, so I know they are both good. HELP!!
  3. I recently changed out my rear pads. Brakes have been completly flushed and operate fine. But when I apply the rear brake I hear a sort of clicking sound I never heard before. Almost sounds like crickets or something. Dont hear it if you only apply front brakes. I was thinking maybe it was because now there is more pad to cross over the vent holes in disk. But why wouldnt you hear it from the front.
  4. Are all MK II front calipers the same from 86-93? I finally got my front brakes hooked up to work together, but It still gives me the same amount of braking, virtually none, I am thinking the right one is bad, when I pump them up to bleed them I get good flow from the left when I bleed it, but when I bleed the right one after pumping them up again, just dribbles from the bleeder. If I let it sit for a while the brake lever has no pressure at all, have to pump them up to get any feel but the lever still goes to the handlebar. I am thinking the right caliper is leaking down, but I cant find any leaks anywhere. I have someone offering calipers from an 86 or 87 but I want to make sure they are the same before I get them. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Hey guys, What's the best way to jack up a First Gen? Help me out. I want to check the front wheel bearings, steering bearings, rear bearings, swing arm and shock. You know... all that stuff that could cause major mishaps at interstate speeds. So I need to get the front and back off of the ground. Is there an easy way to get it up on to the center stand? That will help for some stuff. I can't seem to do it even with help. I have a Harbor Freight M/C Jack, willingness and ingenuity!
  6. So when I load up a heavy passenger I can't go into any kind of lean angle without draggin parts on the ground.. Also bottom out on bad bumps.. I set the class to High and still have the problem. So I'm thinking the old springs are getting weak. I have a set of progressives for the front that i'm putting in over the winter. Does anyone know if rear progressive springs are still available and where to get them?
  7. I think this has been asked before but I don't find it. Is there a car tire that can be used on the front wheel of the 2nd gen Venture? If so would that be a good choice? It seems to me that it would be okay for a trike to use a CT on the front.
  8. Last week, I noticed that the dash-board turn signal indicator on my '05 RSTD was blinking awfully quickly. I remembered from cars I owned in the past that this might mean a burned out bulb doing something to the circuit (and might even be built into the system to alert the drive to a faulty bulb?). Sure enough, neither the REAR flashers or the rear running lights (same single element bulb) were not working . I checked both bulbs and they looked okay and passed a continuity test. The interesting part of this is that the FRONT turn signals still work. I assumed the turn signal relay, a DENSO 066500-4120 FB257H, might be bad but if so how could the front signals and running lights still be working? So my question to you all is this; does the fact that the front flashers/running lights still work mean that the relay is okay and that the problem with the rear lights must be something else? Perhaps a lose connection elsewhere? Photo of the relay is attached. Thanks for any collective wisdom.
  9. I am looking for some passenger arm rest for the 93 trike. Charlene says she doesnt need them, but I think she would be much more comfortable with them. Does anyone still make them or maybe someone here has set they no longer need. I am just about finished making the changes to the trike since I bought it. Yesterday I replaced the old glass tube fuse block with one from radio shack and using Skydoc's instructions it was easy, the only difference between his and radio shacks is 5 fuses vs 6 on Skydocs. I also did the battery fluid level light bypass. The only thing left to address is the front brakes. They have been delinked when triked, but only one disk up front is working. The Vmax mod is next for the brakes. Later when I have the funds I will be doing the front brake mods to make them more reliable and better.
  10. Boys & Girls IDK if anyone else has posted about this product so I will. My right front seal has been weeping for awhile. (Muffinman can attest to it, he saw it at the meet & greet) I tried using a 35 mm film negative & it worked for a little bit but I still saw an oil line of demarcation. When I met Jeff at the Meet & Eat, he was kind enough to give me a list of all the parts I needed to replace the seals. I was looking up remedies on the web & ran across this. http://sealmate.net/Images/fix_leaking_fork_seals_logo.png http://sealmate.net/seal_mate_instructions.html Basically it's the same principle as the film strip but the thing is not as fragile. It cleans the seal & then you have to reseat it by pumping the forks. (I did 3 sets of 10 pumps each) I used it as instructed cleaning the fork tube & dust cap. I cleaned the seal twice around, then I wiped down the tube. I pumped the front end to reseat the seal. & noticed the oil line. Wiped & cleaned & repeated the front end pumping. I saw a lesser line. By the 3rd time my tubes were dry. It's been 4 days now without any issues. If you plan on doing a few bikes I would pick up a couple of them. I found that they sell on EBAY as well. It's cheaper & free shipping. http://www.ebay.com/itm/140818428402?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 This is the seller RJ Engineering (RJ ENGR) http://myworld.ebay.com/rjengr?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 Not a bad fix for $4.70 I will post an update again in a week.
  11. How much air pressure should be in my front forks?? I don't think I have any air in them after checking with a guage. ( 99 ROYAL STAR BLVD. STD.) Any tips on front fork maintance would help, I have never had air front forks before! PLEASE REPLY ASAP! :confused24:
  12. I installed a set of polk 401s and Alpine ktp-445u amp and it sounds alot better. I know some people installed these components and didn't have very good results.I noticed if you follow the shop manuals wiring diagram its wrong . It has the left front speaker polarities reversed which of course would cause poor sound. Just thought some people would be interested .
  13. Okay so here's what happened: Occasionally, my bike drops a cylinder or two, both on the right side, for no apparent reason. My cute boyfriend, who knows what he's doing, found that the problem was not ignition related and decided to pull the carbs out and clean them up. The carbs were filthy throughout, but what was unusual was that he found that the rear carbs both had the 122.5 jets installed, but the fronts had two different jets, a 117.5 and the other which was visually a different size (couldn't READ the numbers.) Not having any idea why they would be different, but also not having any good reason to wait on an answer to this question (the bike ran fine, aside from the occasional loss of the right side cylinder) he put it all back together and Carbtuned them and the bike runs great. Hasn't been back on the road long enough to discern whether or not the arbitrary loss of cylinder(s) has been cured. But, herein lies the question: WHY WOULD THERE BE 2 DIFFERENT JETS IN THE FRONT CARBS? We (he) knows why the jets are different from front to rear, but this is the first time he's ever seen a set of carbs with 2 the same jets in the rear and 2 TOTALLY different jets in the front. Has anyone else seen this before?
  14. Need new tires. So whats the latest word on the Avon Venoms? Cracking fixed? Stay away? Would be buying the new Michelin Commanders if they made a front that fit, not interested in running a narrower size. Thanks in advance for any input. Ross
  15. Went to walmart today on the bike. I go in the same way every time I go to walmart, I'm going down my side of the road & see a pickup CUTTING across the parking lot heading toward me, I'm thinking yea he is going to cut me off he keeps coming i sit down on the horn and almost have to stop I continue to blow the horn all the way down to where he parks. I stop & stare at him and move to my parking spot in front of the IDIOT. I get off the bike and sit there waiting on the idiot to get out and come by me to get in the store ( only 1 entrance in our store) ... he sits in the truck & sends his small child in the store. I wanted to go to his truck but figured I'd end up in jail...he saw me I know he did cause his small son screamed at him and then when he got in front of me he looked in his mirror... I guess i should have gone ahead & stomped his ass to keep him from running over some1 else...IDIOTS ... I swear if u ever hear of a road rage in a small town Alabama then u can say yeap ole midnight lost his cool.....
  16. Today I took the time to bleed and flush the clutch and the front brakes, all went well till I tried to bleed the left front caliper on the 93 trike. Pumped up the brake and broke open the bleeder, nothing came out.........so I loosened the brake line at the caliper and fluid came out. The brakes were delinked when it was triked, but evidently they didnt replace the proportioning valve for the front brakes so both would work off of the brake lever. I am in need of one so I can get more braking power to the front, 1 caliper dont work too good on a heavy trike. I guess I will have to check with Skydoc to see if he has one available.
  17. Interesting article including some accident stats. http://www.wheels.ca/news/after-son-dies-in-crash-opp-officer-preaches-motorcycle-training-4/ Suggestion of limiting new riders to 125cc or less motorcycles is a bit extreme. I don't think you can find anything less than a 250 and event then I believe there are only 2 choices for 250's. Even what used to be common 400-500cc bikes no longer exist. I agree that graduated licensing should include limits on engine size. Making a course mandatory is good. Around here there are courses for M1 to M2 and M2 exit.... but no advanced rider courses. Something like the OPP training or "Ride Like a Pro" would be nice and I'd take one of those if available here. Car drivers don't see us. I like to think that my SilverStar Ultra on high beam during the day and GE H7616 passing lights make me more visible. If I see a car at an intersection where they may turn in front of me I weave a bit (which works if they are looking in my direction when I'm weaving). I make sure I have a "blocker" in front and behind me if I'm in traffic.... close enough front and back that a car wouldn't chance turning into them. If I only have a car in front of me I hang back far enough that cars approaching from the side can see me. I think the stats on rider error, speed/braking experience come into play with stats. Surprised by the number of non-licensed riders... which probably also means no insurance. Intersections are still high in danger zones. Always good for a reminder on riding safe. As temperatures fall car drivers don't expect us to be out. Deer and other critters are active now.... be more careful at night. Stay alert !
  18. I am a first time venture owner. I just bought an 87 venture royale. I absolutely love it so far. I thought this site was very cool when I found it. Its great to be a part of this. Now, down to business, I hope you guys can help me. My bike needs some work before I can get it out for a few rides before snow flies. The air compressor has a bad solenoid. The rear shock won't fill up. Is this repairable? The temp gauge on the dash is not working, it stays at cold. Any common problems? Where is the sensor? What I believe is the low brake fluid in the front master cylinder warning light is on. The front is full. Common problems, where's the sensor? No glass in the rear. How full do I fill the rear? And not so pressing, I'm going to remove the cassette player, I will be putting in a mp3 jack, but I'm looking for more ideas of what to do with that space. Any information would be great, thank you
  19. I ordered and received a Carbtune and Colortune this week. I was very impressed with the personal service used on my order. I have no problems with setting up and using the Carbtune. However, I haven't figured out how to install and read the front two cylinders with the Colortune. I have managed to get the plug in and hook up the lead, but I can't get a visual on the glass to see the flame color. The adapter with the mirror is too long to set up without removing the tank. Is there a trick that I haven't figured out yet? I just want to know what method everyone else is using.
  20. can someone point me in the right direction on how to pull the front speakers?
  21. I put new Dunlop Elite 3 tires on my 07 RSV recently and went to the 130/90 front instead of the stock 150/80. This is the first good ride I have taken with the thinner front tire. Rode to Hot Springs AR for a Rally. We rode HWY 7 which is a really nice rode and to Mount Magazine State Park which is the highest peak in Arkansa. On the way home took HWY 270 to Mena AR and then rode the Talihina Scenic Byway into Oklahoma and then back home to Texas. lots of good twisties and switchbacks on these rodes. I have ridden both Hwy 7 and the Talihina Scenic Byway before with the stock Elite 3 front tire. I could tell a huge difference in handling all the twisties on both of these roads. Did not feel like I was fighting the front end anymore and at times almost felt like I had added power steering. Could take the turns comfortable at higher speeds. Was very satisfied with the way it handles so far.
  22. So I finally got my class fixed(thank you to everyone for your help), and my front forks still dive and bottom out when I hit the brakes. I can see the forks raise and lower when I use the compressor. I rode it at 21 lbs and over little bumps and when I brake it dives down and clunks, what I assume is bottoming out. Anyone know what I should check? I just bought the bike and don't know any history of it, so I can only assume that everything is original. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  23. Hi folks.. I'm looking for some thoughts, ideas and input on some projects I am thinking about doing over the winter. Any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated. This is to my 2004 RSV: First project - Lower the front Does anyone have any experience with the Barons Performance front fork lowering kit vs just the spacers being added to the forks. What are the differences in handling? Does anyone recommend the Performance lowering kit or not? Second project - Handlebar replacement and braided cables. Will be giving Buckeye's (I thank that was who is recommended here in the forums) a call to get all the parts. Looking to replace the stock handle bar with the Flanders one with more pull back. I am thinking of adding heated grips at that time and am wondering if anyone has added heated grips.. if so, what was used? I like the stock grips as my hands are on the smaller side. I have used the ISO grips on previous bikes but do not like them due to their larger diameter size. Has anyone used or added heating elements to the stock grips? How do you like them? I am also looking at the Avon brand heated grips. Not sure yet what their diameter is vs the stock grips. I figure while I have everything apart to lower the front, I might as well do the handlebars and cables at the same time. Thanks for all the input... I don't always post a lot but love to read the articles and this site has been a constant source of help when needed.
  24. My 84 came with a Kenda on the rear & a Dunlop 491 on the front. Both tires are in excellent shape & I have no issues whatsoever on the Interstate or the streets. I remember the p o told me he changed the rear tire but not the front because it was in good shape. Since the wife & I are planning to take longer overnight trips I decided to check the tire date codes. The rear was in fact replaced as it had a date code of 0711. The front although perfect is 8 years old with a 2304 code. SO... Although I am happy with the current performance of this tire combo, I was wondering should I match the the front tire with a Kenda as well? At least for the life of this set. Has anyone had issues with Kenda tires up front? I hear that Gen 1's are fussy about tires. The next full set I will ask you guys again for what would be top of the line, but for now I always like matching tires, but if the Kenda is problematic up from, I will just get another Dunlop 491.
  25. I think I will me replacing my front wheel bearing. (I feel a buzzing in the handlebars & a whirring sound when I lean into turns even thought the bearings are not sloppy) So I have to buy a puller. I know the Tusk bearing remover set would work 8mmm- 31mm but it's $90 and a tool I don't use often SO.... My question is will this Harbor Freight set work as well. It's Standard sizes not metric & since IDK the size of the front bearing I figure I will ask here. http://www.harborfreight.com/blind-hole-bearing-puller-95987.html
