  1. OK folks. I have no answers, only questions. Once upon a time in the early days of this forum, I had a "Classifieds" topic area right here in the forum. That worked fine for the most part except that when somebody sold an item, they never posted that it was sold and it became full of items that had been there for months and/or years and nobody knew if it was still for sale or not. Even if it WAS marked sold, it still required me or one of the moderators to constantly go through the ads and delete the threads for the sold items. I determined that a better solution would be the classifieds software which I then purchased and installed. The advantage of the classifieds software is that items are automatically deleted after a pre-determined time unless the seller renews the ad. It really is the best way to do it except for one problem..... People who post their items in the classifies most often feel the need to then come to the forum and post that they have listed their items in the classifieds. That completely defeats the purpose because we are right back where we started, we have thousands of posts of items that we don't know are still available or whatever. Those post end up being here for years and do nothing but take up space, slow down search functions, etc. I've been trying to clean things up a bit but it's a slow process. This morning I did a keyword search for the word "Craigslist" and found over 600 threads of things like "seen on Craigslist"....since ads on Craigslist only run for about 30 days, almost all of those threads are useless now. I've deleted hundreds of threads this morning but still have a long way to go. I haven't even started on the "added to the classifieds" or "for sale" type threads yet. There are hundreds of those also. So what is the solution? A forum area dedicated to "seen on Craigslist" type ads? At least they would all be in one place and I wouldn't have to search the entire forum for them. I could just delete any in that folder that are over 30 days old. Same for "listed in the classifieds" type posts. They could be posted there also and deleted routinely. I'm looking for your suggestions. Unfortunately, there is no function available to automatically delete these forum posts after a certain amount of time. It has to be done manually, that is why they are best kept in the classified section but that does no good at all when a member feels that he has to post it here also. It would be easier if I just did a search, say for "Craigslist" and then just delete them all in one click but not all are items for sale. Some are discussions on how to search Craigslist and various other discussions. I now have to search and then click on and read most every post to determine if it needs to be deleted or not. It takes several hours to do.
  2. I've been a member of this sight for a couple of years. I haven't met many of you, but I feel like I know you. The people here are always helpful no matter what you need help with. I recently bought a Harley, and thought I would check out the Harley forums. I won't name the forum, but it seems like no matter what the question over there you always get a lot of sarcastic answers, or are just plain mean to the OP. If someone asks a question about why choose a HD over another brand, you get one of those "If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand" answers. I'm just saying we're luck to have a better class of people here. After reading Eck's "VR saved my life" post, it got me thinking about it. There are lots of things I'd like to learn about the new ride. I'd like to find a forum like this one dedicated to touring Harleys, but I don't know if one exists.
  3. I am bidding on a TCI for 83VR on Ebay, Item # 370438059554. Thought I would post so maybe we wouldn't bid against each other. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370438059554&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_1182 We have Ebay Listings on side bar, Would a Ebay bidding forum where members could post what they are bidding on be something members would be interested in just a thought.
  4. it isn't even getting "cool" here, yet, and the "snowbirds" are already beginning to arrive! heck the CANADA GEESE aren't even here yet!!! then on this very forum, "the biscuit thread" pops up.PMS must be setting in. i give up on trying to figure folks out. just jt:snow:
  5. How does one acquire the badges associated with your forum name when you post? If that makes sense to anyone; I will be amazed but I can't think of any other way to explain it.
  6. Don (and whomever else wants to read. ) I belong to another forum (www.ford-trucks.com) that also uses vBulletin. There is a membership for some members who want no ads, a private forum and other stuff. Next to our names we have a tag or icon. When you click on it, it takes you to the subscription page where you can renew or just see when you need to renew. Plus, when the little ball is lit it shows that you're online (in the forum). Just curious why you didn't go that route. Is that not a standard part of vBulletin? Seems time consuming the way you did it. You didn't have to keep typing or cut-n-pasting "Supporting Member" in everyone's profile, did you? If so, maybe you should raise the rate to $13.00.
  7. Mrs BOO and I have been happily married for 43 years today. Since she does not frequent this forum you may send your condolencess to her at the email below. corydon65@yahoo.com BOO
  8. This afternoon the group I was riding with Stopped in Prescott, WI at Cabana Joe's. This trunkless (and badgeless) '04 was in the parking lot. I know there has been some discussion on the forum about this. I never did find the owner so I have no information other than these pics. Enjoy!

  13. I am new to this forum and just wanted to send a blanket thanks for all the great help I have found. In the past month I have found info on this forum to complete the following work on my 2006 RSV; 1) De-tag my bike 2) Fix my sticking cruise control 3) Fixed the wobble by tightening the steerting head bearing 4) Replace the tips on my bub exhaust 5) Re-packed my baffles 6) Replace my front speakers with Polk db401 7) Added bass reducing capitors on the Polks 8) Fixed my radio by cleaning all electrical contacts with dieltrical grease. I think that is about it and all of these things I was able to do from information found from other memebers willing to share knowledge. Thanks to all!!
  14. Sometime in the near future, I will be making some major changes to the VentureRider site. This is not something that I want to do but am pretty much being forced to do. This site is a conglomeration of several different software packages that are somewhat integrated together so that a single login works from the home page, the forum, classifieds, etc. It is a common occurrence that I have to upgrade the software from time to time. Sometimes it is to add new features but it is often because new security vulnerabilities are discovered. Once they are discovered, it is not long before the hackers and spammer find out about them and then we are open to such attacks. The problem is though that often if an upgrade is required in one area, for example the forum, then it causes problems with other areas such as the home page. So it's a chain effect, an upgrade here ends up requiring an upgrade to other parts of the site. Often it is after an upgrade is already done before you find the problems that it caused in other areas. An example is this last upgrade where an upgrade to the forum software caused such things as the "Mark Forums Read" and etc. to stop working on the home page and also the side menu here. That is because the side menu here on the forum is actually part of the home page software. It all gets so confusing. While it can be irritating and cause a lot of work and debugging each time, the problem is that the people who wrote the software that I am using on the home page appear to have pretty much given up that business. They are no longer offering upgrades or support for the software. This last little change and the problems that it caused created some real headaches and several hours to figure out what code needed to be changed so that it all worked together again. As more changes are made to the forum, the problem will get much worse. The bottom line is that I am going to have to completely redo the VentureRider home page from scratch. Remove the current software and integration and come up with a new solution. Over the next week or two I will be looking at various options and making a decision on what will the be best route forward. There may be some changes that some of you like and there may be some things that go away that some of you will really miss. It can't be helped and I promise that I will try my best to retain all the current features that I can. The good news is that the actual discussion forum will remain pretty much the same. The decision that I make for the home page will determine if there are any changes at all to the forum. If there are changes, it will still be the same basic software and no changes in the way that it actually works on your end. Also, we should not lose any posts. The only thing that we might lose, at least temporarily, are some of the custom features that I have added over the years. If so, I will add them back as soon as possible. Well that's the story. It is not going to happen today or this weekend but will be happening soon. This is such a big change that when I do it, I will very likely have to shut down the site for at least a couple of hours. I will give advance notice before doing that.
  15. I ran across this neat little idea on Delphi Forums (DIY Cruiser Forum) and thought it was an easy and inexpensive way to possibly enhance our visual presence on the road. The Radio Shack part cost 2.39 each and was the only cost associated with this modification. Here is the link that contains the pdf instructions for performing this mod. I do not know if you have to be a delphi forum member to read their posts, but if you have any problems accessing it, let me know and I will see about posting the copy I downloaded. Attached are several pix of the mod on MyPalomino. http://forums.delphiforums.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=DIYCruisers&msg=11.1
  16. I get the error message, "Sorry! This forum is not accepting new posts." for the following forums when I try to subscribe using "Forum Tools": First Gen Tech Library: Body, Plastic, Paint First Gen Tech Library: General Tech Library It seems like there were a few others, but I can't remember which ones (early onset CRS?)
  17. Hi Folks I am new to the forum and just bought a 2009 RSV-S today. I am trying to integrate my GPS, Passport 8500 Radar Detector and XM into the aux input so that I can hear them over the bikes stereo system. I am not using a headset nor do I have bluetooth. Do I need a box like Mix-It to make this application work? Thanks for any inputs this is an awesome forum. Steve
  18. Sent a couple of seats over to Rick at the beginning of the week (3/8/10) along with a 'heads up' email... Since then I have been unable to reach him by email, phone or forum pm.. I'm sure somebody on the forum must be in contact with him... Het Rick... Are you out there, bud? Is everything ok?
  19. I know this has been posted before and I see where some have got them from Venturedad but I wasn't able to find a link for it. I would just as soon give somebody from the forum a shot at it first. Thanks
  20. I used to live in the Tallahassee FL area. I originally went there to go to FSU and ended up staying for about 18 years. It's a lovely area and I enjoy going back occasionally to see some of the many friends that still live there. During the trip this year I decided to see if I could catch up with other Forum members in the area. I sent a PM to jonsmyth (Chuck), oldroadstar (Fred), and TallyVenture (Terry), who were the only “supporting” members in the area (at least that I could find in the Members listing). I met with jonsmyth for coffee and bagels on Tuesday and then met oldroadstar and TallyVenture for lunch on Wednesday. It was a real treat to meet everyone and I sincerely appreciate that all three took the time and made the effort to meet and visit with me. It's always special to spend time with the Forum Family, and it's certainly extra-special when you get to do it so far from home. So, my sincere thanks and a tip-of-the-hat to my new Forum friends: jonsmyth, oldroadstar, and TallyVenture. I sure hope to see you again, somewhere down the road. I was also able to meet with twowheelsonly (Stewart, who lives nearby me here in GA and attends some of our Monthly M&Es) as he was passing through Havana FL on his way to Key West with a group of riders. I hope he's been having a good ride and a great time on that pretty new (to him) BMW. TERRY

I rec'd not 1 but 2 carbtune kits for Christmas. I finally got around to downloading the step by step procedures and did follow the easy steps. All I can say is WOW, what a difference. I've put on almost 100 miles and I can't believe the preformance and I don't get any popping. Thanks to this forum and I can't remember who posted the pics and procedures, but it was sure worth the whole 45 minutes it took me to syce the carbs. Bob
  22. I have become almost obsessed with this forum. I usually check it at least a couple of times a day. - Is this normal? How often you you folks check for new messages? craigr
  23. Well folks as I have posted recently I had my second interview today for the ISO Coordinator position I applied for. SO it is with a heavy heart that I am announcing that I will have to get off the government dole and unemployment ranks and go back to work. The interview was at 1:30 today and I left their offices at 2:55, I went to pick up some small engine parts and by the time I got home at 4:30 I had a phone call to call her back. So I took a deep breath and called her back. She did not answer so I left a message. Then I said to myself.... self don't be a dumb a$$ call the main number and have your new boss paged. I sure am glad I listened to myself. That is when she informed me she was going to offer me the position. I want to thank all of you for your prayers, and thoughts. I just want to make sure the man up stairs knows how lucky I am to have made it this year and the great people that I have come to know here at the forum. I can't honestly tell you in enough words how thankful I am. I was beginning to think this day would never come. This forum has been such a great outlet form...... you will never know. God must have had a deafening roar with all the prayers said over this job. How could he have possible said no. I have to go now .......... I have something in my eye and and need to say a special thank you to someone........... How lucky I am????? Thanks you all again Steve working stiff like the rest of you.
  24. Firstly I'd like to say thank you Don for the site & making it all possible. From reading here I know I'm not alone in saying that. To all those members who post / have posted to the tech section ( you know who you are) thank you very much as well. I have never had to ask a question about my Venture, because everything I need / want to know about the mc is here somewhere. My apologies for not interacting more on the forum, but am normally a man of few words anyway. Just my nature I guess. Would be great to meet some of you guys for a ride, M&E or something but doubt that will happen without some big changes in situation. (you never know) Thanks again folks Tony.
  25. A friend has a 2 year old John Deere L140 for sale. It has a snow blade and chains with it. When he told me about it I was really wanting it but I decided I had better research it first. It has a Briggs 23 horse 2 cylinder motor. When I started looking for reviews on the web all I found were complaints. But then somebody looking at this forum might think the Venture was a terrible motorcycle when it is not. Who has personal experience with this tractor and what do you think. How old and how many hours?
