  1. Folks, While at Maintenance Day Lonna got a call from Kenny Branton, Kbran here on the site. He's not having a good go of this foot situation he suffered a few weeks back when his bike fell on his ankle. This has become much more complicated and Kenny now has a Blood Clot in his lung. He is currently in the hospital and is being treated for this with Coumadin. He is doing as well as can be expected, but asks if you folks would say a prayer for him. He probably wont be able to get on the site for a while, but if you would just take a second to talk with the man upstairs for him I know it would help to ease his and many of our minds. For those of you that dont know much about Kenny, he was Lonna and my savior when we had out accident in January of '08 outside of Baton Rouge. He came right to the hosptal and stayed with us during the entire process. Then had his daughter-in-law come and pick us up and took us to her house where she gave up her bed for us. We went and picked up the bike and he drove us and the bike up to Mean Dogs house in Mississippi where we put the bike in our trailer for our trip back home. They dont came any better than Kenny or his family, please say a prayer for him, Lonna and I owe a lot to this man and his family.
  2. Folks, I'm sorry but I just don't have the energy right now to go through all the post about Maintenance Day. Will try to do it tomorrow night when I get to my hotel. I do want to thank all who attended though. It was our true pleasure to host this even again this year and we had a fantastic time. Not sure if anybody got a count or not. I heard numbers as high at 130 bikes and probably close to 200 people at one time or another. I just know that how EVER many it was...they used a LOT of toilet paper. The only folks left here now are GaryN and Mary and they will be pulling out tomorrow morning. What a great bunch this is. I'm truly humbled by the kindness and genuine goodness of our members here. For those of you who have never made this event or one of our many others, you have no idea what you are missing. Good Night all.
  3. OK Folks, Now it's time to start with the donation amounts. We have our volunteers 21 folks that have taken the baton and will "Run" (pun intended) with our hopes of big weight loss. What we are going to do is have all you members donate towards the total combined weight that all the volunteers have decided to loose, this total is 567 lbs. This weight is what all of us are trying to loose, this also is all that we will ask you folks to honor as far as your donation amounts. If we loose more as a group, the donors will not have to pay above the 567 lbs if they do not wish to. If we end up loosing 700 lbs as a group, thats great and if folks want to donate for whatever the total is thats even better. There is a twist for us who are trying to loose the weight. If we dont meet the goal that we have set for ourselves we will have to pay $1 for every pound we miss our goal by. Kinda keeps us honest about loosing the weight The totals will be taken at Freebirds Maintenance Day on June 6th in Oberlin Ohio. So now it's time to present this to you folks, figure out what you believe that you would like to donate. Just to make it easy to figure out, 0.10 per pound will be $56.70 so you can figure it out what will work for you. As always Thank you to all you that donate and will help to champion this cause. St. Judes is a wonderful hospital and if you went and saw how much good is being done there, you wouldn't hesitate. I will be handling all of the donation amounts, so if your interested in donating PM me with the amount per pound and I'll keep track of all of it. Thank you to all our volunteers who have jumped on board and helped with this idea. Thank you to '93 Venture who thought of it....let the bidding begin Link to 1st thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=30853
  4. What do you folks use to hold your GPS?
  5. I've had my midnite Venture since 04. Lived in small town Ontario, and have usually been the only black Venture, or Venture, period. We've since moved to Amherstburg, ON, Canada, and it's another fairly small town, under 20,000 folks, most kind...the rest like me. Well, there are now 3 midnite Ventures, right in town, including my own. Wow, growing by leaps and bounds!!! One hangs out the next street over, and the other is owned by a young fella that works in the meat dept. and the local Sobey's. Yahoo.......more folks that I can discuss bikes with!! Life is good! I'll make sure that they know about the great people on this site, and how to get here to enjoy everyone here. randy:Venture:
  6. Folks, if you have purchased a subscription and get a reminder that it is expiring, please let me know. By all means, do NOT pay again. You should only get a reminder a year after you paid. You should NEVER get billed again automatically, I have the yearly subscriptions set to NOT be recurring so it will be your choice if you wish to subscribe again a year from now. A couple of folks have told me that they got emails that their subscriptions are expiring. I apologize if it happens to you but please let me know if it does and by all means, do NOT pay again.
  7. wanted to thank all the folks that came to our meet. even though it rained you all made our weekend. the ride to herman yesterday and having you all over for barbeque made the whole thing worthwhile, and like i told alot of folks it got my butt in gear to get some much needed work done around here. linda and i had a great time being with all of you. really had a great group of people here. we love ya'all. bill and linda :clap2:
  8. Old P.T. Barnum said it best when he said that there is a fool born every minute. IMHO this definately proves it. http://www.motorcyclecuff.com/ Or maybe some folks should never be allowed to own a MC.
  9. I know that most folks here recommend Metz & Avon tires..pretty much a given. Why do most folks buy the bias tire instead of the radial tire?
  10. As some of you remember and though I was CRAZY in this last thread, http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32974 I took the template and some advise from some of you folks and came up with a formed 1" round stainless steel rod. Then I had a bracket placed were the kick stand goes. (off set under there as well) then had the Darn thing Chromed. (Thanks Mike for bring that part back) great guy! Wife is very happy that she now can extend her legs outward It also does not get in my way. I almost had it figured out a way for the kickstand not to hit the darn thing when up.. gave up since I did my Trike Conversion last month and had the kickstand removed anyways. Just thought I would share my finished results. Wife tried then today on about a 100 mile ride. she loved them! I also placed a Shinny New Quarter one each side. one from Iowa were we live now and the other from were we came from. Calif. The support strength from this new bracket is stronger then the ones that I have up front, off the crash bar. Take a look! the last few are from under. Still trying to up-load pics folks.. something is wrong.. not working right today.. Jeff
  11. just a reminder to get your registrations in as soon as you can for the 09 rally. not being pushy, i just keep remembering black owls advise. don't let the folks forget. cindy has the t-shirts to order and name pins to make and we have to figure on the food. this is going to be the big one so, we want to get it right for all the folks. thanks bill
  12. OK Folks, We haven't had a good practical type joke in a while....so I'll be the typical culprit and start this one. As many of you know this last weekend down in NC Bobbie (Sleeperhawks Mechanic) and I got our inking done for the St. Judes Donation drive we had. Lonna and I drove the wagon down to NC as the weather wasn't going to permit the bike. We stopped for fuel and I found a "Gift" for Lewis. I thought he might be showing up and I was going to give it to him there....we'll he couldn't make it ....but the "Gift" was still in NC. So now what I'll tell you all what, a bit of an enigma for Lewis. Lewis now has to catch up with his "Gift" as it is now starting a trek of sorts around the country. You see, this "Gift" will be continually changing hands at M&E and such. The person that travels the farthest, on 2 or 4 wheels will take the gift with them to their home. Only to take it to the next M&E they go to where it will then continue on, until Lewis is at one of the M&E's that it makes it to. I also want to add that this is strictly voluntary for folks to participate in. If you dont want the responsibility of having it, then please dont take it. This is all in fun and I dont want this to be a burden on anyone. I wont devulge what the "Gift" is, but I can guarantee you that he will love it. Now what I want to do is let everyone, including Lewis know who has the "Gift" David Duquette AKA Riderduke has it in his posession in Virginia. The next M&E Dave gets to is where the "Gift" will be. When the "Gift" changes hands, either the person that handed it off or the recipient will then post in this thread who has it and where it's located. So now all the pressure is on you Lewis, you have to hunt down your "Gift" and nobody is to tell you what it is. You'll just have to go get it to find out....happy hunting my friend
  13. This change does not go into effect until 2012, but you may want to stick it in your something to remember file. Effective 2012, the IRS will be receiving payment information from charge card companies ANDother financial entities such as PayPal. While the intent is to track folks that may be running off the book enterprises, they will also be able to see who is living beyond their reported income level. This can come back and bit a few of us in the butt. Like donations made to Don via PayPal for maintaining the site would have to be claimed as income. Folks who are receiving payments for the purchase of raffle tickets, registration fees, etc... will have to claim that as income. So, just a word to the wise....
  14. OK folks...I got home around 10:30 last night and then couldn't sleep. So...I decided to work on the chat room and I THINK it is working now. Please give it a try when you get a chance and let me know.
  15. don't keep us in suspence. hows the new wing. wish i could have been there with all you folks. lets see some pics good buddy.
  16. Seems as of April 1 there's gonna be a new nasty worm out there. . Mostly they don't seem to know how bad this one is gonna get, but they seem to be leaning on pretty bad. Here's the link. http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/128643/beware-conficker-worm-come-april-1/ Thought some folks might like to know about this one. Some of us aren't too computer savvy, most of us wouldn't know what to do with this one. Think you'd have to be a tech person to figure this out. Margaret
  17. just, want to remind people to register as soon as you can for the 09 ar. rally at the hub, so we can start ordering t-hirts and get a count. not trying to pressure anyone, but trying to make it easy on cindy and give the folks who own the hub an idea what to expect for the final dinner that they are going to cater. thanks bill
  18. Hi Folks. I just got off the phone after talking with Pete (tessac2). He seems to being doing well considering. He has questions from stroke survivors. He was wondering if folks could put their experiances here and in particular interest to him is the bikers who are riding after having a stroke. His left hand is quit weak and at this time he says he could not close the clutch if his life depended on it. His left leg is weak and his foot wont listen too well yet. Not good enough to shift gears he figures. And lastly...balance...the folks in rehab are worried about balance for riding. He tries to peek in here every now and then...but I will print up everything just before we head out to see him next Saturday. Thanks
  19. Due to the recent economic downturn and increased utility rates. In order to balance the budget I am forced to make some changes. I have decided to park my truck and ride the scoot more.:cool10: Sometimes sacrifices have to be made. See ya at the DQ. Seriously folks I wish all the best for those who may be out of work. This thing has to turn around.
  20. Hey all. I am a mechanical idiot. Now that I have gotten that out of the way....I have 2 questions....a gas question and an oil question. Gas-can anyone tell me the benefit of putting the high test gasoline in? I have had my RSTD since April and the dealer told me to put in the high end gas. Why? Oil-How often do you folks change the oil? Someone will be proud of me...I actually learned how to do it and took care of my bike. I appreciate the wisdom and feedback from the site. Thanks!
  21. OK folks...I don't usually do this because the thread IS where it should be. But this is a very good deal for those of you who need them or who may need them in the future so please check out the following thread. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32943
  22. This was written by a black gentleman in Texas . And is so funny. What a great sense of humor And creativity!!! When I was born, I was BLACK, When I grew up, I was BLACK, When I went in the sun, I stayed BLACK, When I got cold, I was BLACK, When I was scared, I was BLACK, When I was sick, I was BLACK, When I bruise, I'm still BLACK, And when I die, I'll still be BLACK. NOW, You 'white' folks.... When you're born, you're PINK, When you grow-up, you're WHITE, When you go in the sun, you get RED, When you're cold, you turn BLUE, When you're scared, you're YELLOW, When you get sick, you're GREEN, When you bruise, you turn PURPLE, And when you die, you look GRAY. So who y'all callin' COLORED folks?
  23. OK folks...I honestly don't know how else to say it. I've put it in the site information, I've pleaded and begged, I've always tried very hard to be nice in the way that I request things of you. I honestly don't ask for much but one thing that I have ALWAYS requested is that we refrain from political discussion here. Some folks just don't seem to get it though. In the 4 1/2 years that this site has existed, I think there has been ONE single member banned. OK...there have been some spammers banned but I'm talking about legit members. Most of you have been very respectful of the very few rules that we have here. There are however a small handful of members who just can't resist making a political statement anytime the slightest opportunity presents itself. It might be in response to a joke, a casual post, whatever but they just have to do it. Some seem to think that they are so smart and witty that the political implications of their post will fly under the radar. Let me assure you, it doesn't happen. I read every single post made to this site and in fact, I have it set up so that ever single post is emailed to me. I can promise you that I watch these things. I try very hard to be fair and I often let things go until I see a war starting to break out but have become less tolerant as time goes on. So, there have been plenty of warnings, nice requests, begging and pleading. I simply cannot continue to allow a handful of folks to continue to push the envelope every chance they get. You are all intelligent people and you KNOW when you are doing it. Don't send me emails or PMs asking if I am talking about you. You KNOW if I am or not. As much as I despise the thought, I'm not going to continue having to dance around just a few people. Those who continue to abuse our few simple rules are subject to being banned from the site with no further warning. This may seem extreme but if it happens, you have caused it to happen. This applies to everybody, regardless of their political affiliations. If you are Democrat, Independent, Republican, conservative, libertal, whatever...this is not the site for it. This includes not only posts on the forum and profile pages but also avatars, signatures, etc. The only other major thing here is that the site is PG rated. I know that there is a big difference between PG rated and G rated. I'm not trying to make this the Disney Channel but some have gotten a bit lax in their language and jokes. Please help me to get these things back under control. You are the greatest group I've ever had the pleasure of being associated with. This message applies to VERY few of you.
  24. If I recall right....a member on this site makes tank bibs...Possibly BEER30??If so, is there a link to see photos?? Thanks folks.
  25. Hey Folks, Some of you local folks know that I have a very good friend that owns a Honda dealership in Richmond, Michigan here called Peak Powersports. http://peakhonda.com/default.asp Quincey and I have been good friends for right at 10 years and I would do anything for him. I lead a charity ride that a few of our members participated in last September..... Anywho. He has a great sale going on right now until Febuary 20th on Dunlop tires. I know there are quite a few of you folks that like the Dunlops and I'm going to do everything I can to give him a shot in the arm as the economy here in Michigan is sucking badly. Deal is he needs to get orders for 20 of tires by Feb 20th and his distributor will give him a great discount. He is passing the saving on and has offered this up. If you place an order and pay for the tires before Feb 20th he will mount and balance the new tires on your rims that you bring to him for FREE. He will also do them if you bring in the bike, but you'll be charged the labor for taking them off the bike and back on. His prices are VERY competitive with the online stores and he stands behind what he does. I dont put my name on many things or companies that I dont trust, Q is one of the best. If your local here in Michigan and are needing tires for whatever scoot you own (That includes dirt bikes and ATV's) please give him a call and see what he will do for you. Quincey is the owner and his youngest son Nick works for him as well. Check them out as they have a lot to offer
