  1. It's time for us to have another chat here. Freebird not 2 weeks ago came on and mentioned about threads going south. Today I have closed 2 threads down due to folks coming on and taking them south. There are a couple of rules here, and for the most part, the greater majority of the membership have no problems following them. Political post are never good, they always go south as all of us have strong beliefs, I do too, way heavy (on the edge of being radical) than most of you know, but I dont express them here. We hear of tragedies and that sparks emotions in us, we then say our peace, usually before we take a chance to calm down and think about the consequesnces. It's understandable, but we are grown men and women, many over 40. Some like to fuel the fires and stir the pot, this is not acceptable. THINK before you post up something that MAY be misconstrewed. I know that most start out innocently as information, but they spiral quickley out of control and create hard feelings and get dander up. I am not here to preach to any of you, I am no better than anyone else on this site, but I will come on and give some of us a jerk and let folks know that the moderators wont tolerate this. For some reason this summer seems to be one of the worst for these kinds of threads that are usually kept for winter time when many of us can't ride. PLEASE think about what you post and the reprocussions that can happen by passing on info that stirs up emotions. Lets keep this in mind when we post and we wont have to seem heavy handed by closing or deleting threads. Thank you to all the members that contribute to this site. This place is enjoyable to come to because we try very hard to keep it light and enjoyable. I can speak for myself and the moderators in saying that you folks are very easy to work with. We dont have a lot of issues with the members....so THANK YOU
  2. this has nothing to do with nothing, but when was the last time you southern folks, maybe even northern folks or anyone for that matter. had a good old cold glass of milk and a slice of cornbread cooked in saved bacon grease. and you dunked that slice of cornbread in that glass of milk. or just had it with some real old fashion butter. well if you can't remember well that's too long. hot d--- momma i'am back home. peace & love to all best reguards don c.
  3. We made it home safe and I hope everyone elsed did also. Just want to thank all that made the appearance and especially Lewis for organizing this event. Great to finally meet some of the folks in person. We had a really good time... Here is a few photos...I know a lot of folks took a lot more and hope to see them here also.
  4. OK folks....I just did a software upgrade on the site. Please let me know if you see anything not working correctly. Thanks.
  5. Just wanted to add a few additional comments concerning the 2009 Pork in the Pines Pig Roast. First and foremost I want to thank everyone that was able to make it this year. Even though Freebird couldn't make it, the final headcount was 42 great people in attendance. Without you folks, this would be just another dead hog day. We couldn't have asked for a better week end. Warm, sunny days for riding and dry cool evenings for sleeping. At least for those of us that tried to get some sleep. For the rest, it was dry cool evenings for sitting around the fire, "talking" (read swapping lies) and enjoying the great company and a few adult beverages. Was great to see old friends, talk about old times, and make new friends who ran more than a few miles to make this year the best PIP to date. Hopfully, Freebird will be able to arrange his schedule to be able to make it next year. For those that may not have heard, Dan (stardborg) has a Venture. He also has a new girl friend. :rotfl: Apparently Dan made a great impression on her as she spend most of yeaterday just wandering around the pasture with her head hung down. Either that or see was grazing. Really want to thank Rick Stempel, from the law firm of Stempel & Doty and John Pagels with Pagels Engineering, for graciously sponsoring the breakfast Saturday and Sunday. If anyone would like to personally express their thanks, yoiu can do so at Rick@Stempellaw.com and jpagels@pagelsengineering.com as without their sponsorship the breakfasts would not have been possible. I would also be greatly remiss if I did not acknowledge the folks from the Backus Meat Locker. Not only did they once again make sure we had a great guest of honor, but they went out of their way to make sure we didn't have to make a return run to pick him up. I was a bit late (okay 4 hours) getting on the road Friday morning, and they stayed open 2.5 hours past normal closing time to allow me to pick up the hog. For folks like this a simple thank you just never seems to be sufficient. And even though it has been said before, thanks Gary and Annie for putting up with us and opening up your home and property to ensure that things come off without a hitch. And next year I promise to put up the tent To Kris for again foregoing the ride to do a another superb job cooking the guest of honor. To Wil and Lizbeth for their efforts on putting together the web site (www.porkinthepines.com) and getting up early to help prepare the breakfasts. Couldn't have done it without you guys. Steve (Eagleeye) for the best beans I have tasted in a long time and for the help in getting the chili ready. Even if we did have to cook up a second batch by the time everyone was finished having "just one more small sample taste". And to Mrs Bubber, even though she would not share the recipe for the Butterscoth bars. And once more to everyone that turned out. You guys/gals are the greatest. For those who are considering coming next year, the 2010 Pork in the Pines Pig Roast will be September 3 though 6, 2010. There is also a rumor that there may be a wedding at next years event. Now how cool could that be. Okay, I have rambled on long enough. So I will close by saying that next year the Viagra Viagro may even get off the trailer.... :bang head:
  6. Just a reminder that we are now only 21 days away from the 2009 Pork in the Pines Pig Roast. This is the 4th year, and thanks to the efforts of (Gary) Grandpagak, (Annie) Grandmagak, and (Will) Juggler, everything seems to be falling into place to ensure us a fantastic time and a great feast. For those who are returning, we look forward to seeing you again. For the first timers, all we can say is yah better come prepared for a really fun time and meeting some of the greatest (if not the weirdest) folks you will every be honored to call your friend. For those who have not done so, please visit www.porkinthepines.com and sign up. And remember folks, due to the down turn in the economy, we are waiving the registration fee this year. We will have a donation jar set up for those who feel that are in a position to help us defray the expenses. Sorry we can't help defray the travel costs, but as always there is free camping. And, thanks to two very generous sponsors, we are having on site breakfast on Saturady and Sunday. Looking forward to seeing a whole bunch of new and returning friends this year.
  7. Well I'm hitting the road. Ok in my car. Anyway heading up to my folks for a few days. Trip was a little iffy thanks to bill out there in the atlantic, but they say he won't hit us. I'll get to check on the site everyday since my folks have internet. Just thought I'd let you all know I was gonna be gone in case ya missed me. Heading out in the morning for the 8 hr trip. OK now for the smart butt responses. :rotf::rotf: Margaret
  8. Just made it home from Vogel - 1,010 miles - just a bit longer than the 980 we did on the way there 'cause we explored some great roads on the way out of Georgia. Several folks told us about 180, just behind the park, but nobody mentioned 60 - what a fantastic ride! But I gotta say I was embarrassed as I neared home - passed a trailer with both an RSTD and a Venture on it! Seems this Hardly disease is spreading faster than the swine flu - now folks are going out to buy a quality bike at a reasonable price and STILL putting it on a trailer instead of riding it. But it's probably not their fault, maybe that disease keeps them from knowing what they are doing? Maybe I need to open up a Venture Trailerer forum so these people can gather together? Sigh . . . But Jneed53 and I had a GREAT ride! Even riding in the rain is always better than any day NOT riding (or trailering). Was good to see y'all, Goose
  9. don mentioned to me at the 09 rally, that he would like to do a meet at the hub next year. well i'm chompin at the bit already. it won't be an international rally. some one else can do that. it will be a 4 day get together. no raffles, no prizes, no registration fee, no catered meal, no shirts or patches, no planned rides, just a barbeque one night, and a good old let your hair down and relax meet, at a little cooler time. since don is on vacation at vogel right now i thought i would mention this to see how many folks would like to see this happen. we had so much fun and commaraderie this year and the hub is a wonderful place for a big meet. how many of you folks would be interested in attending? just curious.
  10. Okay folks. I just killed the thread on the Sns of Silenc. Although there was nothing wrong with the initial thread talking about the experience, some folks have to jump in and start sending it south. So it's dead.
  11. Well I rolled in about 2:30 yesterday afternoon after seeing folks at the Hub Wed and Thurs and my brief stay Thursday night in Eureka Springs. I would have got home earlier but at one of my gas stops two teenagers had locked their keys in the car and the cops wouldn't help because the car was in their parents name??? Go figure. So I spent awhile and finally jimmied it open. They were very appreciative. It was sure was great to see folks at the Hub. Made me wish I had been there all week. A big thank you to Ray (colesgranpa) for leading the ride Thursday with Swifty (sorry if I held you back ), Dan and Snarley It sure was beautiful, except for Bill HE IS NOT BEAUTIFUL It sure is nice to be a part of such a great group. Jay
  12. finally got computer working and uploaded pics sorry for delay ...great time had by all...kudos to bigtom/taters for all their hard work...thanks to folks at pioneer for all they did.
  13. first off trying out my new notebook don got me set up and this is my first post. we are having a good time. what a party. lots of good folks here including our surprise arrivals, brad, and lonna. going to hit the hay now.
  14. Saw a 1987 two tone brown VR in Pennsylvania today, but he didn't see me. It was your buddy Earl or Skydoc to some of you folks. And just for the record, I called him and told him about it!
  15. well folks i'm starting to think about my meet next year. this was the last year for my meet and eat in st. charles. i think folks are burning out on it, and need something new and different. i know i do. trying to decide on a neat location. i am only going to do one next year. i already offered to don do the 2010 rally. if he would like me to do it i would be honered. if not i am going to put one on. it will either be in montgomery city, mo. or eureka springs. i am leaning toward montgomery city. lots of great riding in that area. all country with a-one facilities. after the hub meet you may tar and feather me. already got the wheels turning for next year.
  16. well the rally is a liittle over a week away, and i think we got all are apples in one basket. lots of folks coming, lots of plans for a good time, lots of good food, good rides, vendors, great place and hosts at the hub where we are having it. alot of folks are coming that haven't registered, and that is okay. we got you covered. i sure was lucky to have the folks that i picked for my committee. i lucked out and got some keepers. cindy has gone out of her way, and worked very hard on this meet. she makes me feel like i did'nt do anything. thats why i picked her. i want to thank all the folks on the committee and the ones that had to leave because other commitments arose, the moderators , who gave great input. and don for keeping us all out of trouble. by the way don was the one who came up with the design for the awesome t-shirts and patches. rose bud donated the use of the machine to make the name buttons. see you all there and i hope we put a good one together for you. we did our absolute best. see you all at the hub. snarley bill
  17. As always if it isn't seen on the site then it's not real....so here is the '89 I purchased in Vermont. I have to take a minute and thank a few folks here... Bobgobob, The mufflers cleaned up pretty well and they sound great. Also the master Cylinder and rear reservior work wondrufly, as well as the front brake handle switch, Thanks again for all of it Lonna, now I'll tell you folks something, this little woman of mine is not afaraid to get dirty or break a nail. The bike looks as good as it does because while I was fixing, she was cleaning. It looks fantastic and most of you when you do see it wont believe it has over 100K on it. Jus monkeyin around, Dave was the one that came and trailer the bike to my house when our trailer puked. He's been over to the house several times and helped me along with it, he's been a really big help with all of this I fianlly took it out today as I am still waiting on forward exhaust clamps, but improvised with hose claps to hear it run To my surprise, when I warmed it up and hooked the Carbtune to it, it was almost perfect, just a few little tweaks and level lines were had. I am very happy so far as I know this bike has been setting for awhile. It is VERY smooth running and has LOTS of power, life is good and cycle therapy is just around the corner once I get insurance on her. Thanks again to all involved with the trip to get her home and the help here in Michigan...looking forward to riding after being without one for 2 month
  18. Hello 1st genners, I need a favor from you folks. Russ in Lowpoint Illinois was good enough to pick me up a backrest for my '89 Venture. The pad is definitely venture with the large V on it, but I fear the mounting brackets are for a Goldwing. Could some of you folks take pics of your backrests so I can see how they mount and how the backrest attaches to the support bar....much appreciated
  19. Well folks, it was fun but it is time for somebody else to enjoy it now. I have just listed my bike on Ebay. If anybody is looking, now is the time. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-Honda-CT90_W0QQitemZ300327944924QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_motorcycles?hash=item45ecf0c2dc&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A12|39%3A1|72%3A317
  20. Well since so many want to go back to Asheville I'll go ahead and set up a shorter version. I decided on July 10, 11, 12. This way it's a weekend and not too long for those that are planning on going to the other events this summer. I'll get around to calling the KOA and the motel once I see how many folks are interested in this. So please let me know I'll add it to the calendar. So folks let me know whose interested. Now just because I said fri, sat, and sun doesn't mean you can't show up earlier. If you do we'll get you in touch with folks in the area so you can get around and see some sites. Margaret
  21. Just a short note to announce that we just got our sponsor for Breakfast Sunday morning at the 2009 Pork in the Pines Pig roast. So folks, time to put this one on your calanders... www.porkinthepines.com
  22. Hey Folks, I am in the need for something, I have 1 right side Markland floorboard, I need the left one to make it a set If any of you folks have a left one that needs a home, could you please get ahold of me
  23. Hey Folks, Here it is, D-day, so to speak and our time for weight loss is down to hours. I want to thank all the folks that grabbed this by the horns and pledged to loose weight or donate towards the goal. What I am asking now is for some other folks to donate towards the weight loss. We have less than 10 people that have pledged monies towards our weight loss goal, which probably wont quite be met I dont want to sound ungrateful, and believe me I know how tight money is right now, but if you could find it in your heart and wallet to donate even .03 per pound it really will help. If you have been to St. Judes or last year at Ronald McDonald house you'll know how much this is needed. We will accept money all the way up to and even after the weigh in, if you can help out, I ask that you please do. Thank you again to all involved and the effort that was and is being put into this Here is a link to the ongoing thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=31174
  24. Howdy folks! Don't know if it's been my usual "every 6 months" or not but here goes. I'll keep it short this time. Still truckin' but haven't gone back to work yet. They have a couple jobs running in Bismarck and in Poplar, MT but it's flippin back & forth between the two. They bid on a job in April for Max, ND that will run the rest of the season. They've started the pipe work and when they're pretty much done with that they'll bring the side-dumps up so off to work I go when that happens. For those of you that know me you've seen me limping around here & there for about 5yrs now. I fell on my right knee in the winter of 2003 and just never did anything about it, couldn't afford to take time off of work. So I've babied it, relying on my left knee to carry the load (and yes, the load could use a lil work but that's another story!) and as of last Friday, an MRI revealed that the cartilage is about gone. Since this WAS my good knee I'm sure the right knee has gone to s^*t as well. Again, not being able to afford missing work I won't be doing anything about it really until I get laid off this winter. So I'll keep on limping my way around. At PiP, just give ol' gimpy some room and don't be in a hurry if you're waitin on me, it'll take me awhile! Crow & I are doin' pretty good. He's still working at the greenhouse in town here. He does most of the physical work there and it's starting to show on him too. Damn aging, it sucks! Kids are doing fine as well as the grandkids. My son never made it to Afghanistan. They want him to spend some time as the reservist he signed up to be before they'll let him go active. I'll leave it at that.................lol. So other than the knee thing, everything is going pretty well. Haven't ridden the scoot yet this year, just too painful. She started right up this Spring so that's a good thing. Can't wait til Sept to see some of you folks. Gary/Annie......... here chicky chicky! Red....... bring some plugs, you'll be okay! Steve........... did we decide on fried chicken or grilled hon? (LMAO) Ya'll take care & be safe! Brandi
  25. looks like things are coming together for the 09 rally. more people are beginning to register and it's coming upon us fast. what a ride this has been. it's alot of work putting these meets together. i have a great bunch on my committee. now we need all the folks that are planning to attend to help us out and get registered as soon as you can. we can't wait to see all you folks. bill :clap2:
