  1. hi all i have been trying to make reseravations at bingermans camping resort at kitchener, ontario for a couple of days now. the 800-565-4631 and the 519-744-1002 #'s are at the caming site and they are closed for the season. the 519-744-1555 is a working phone # but at the main park office. also the online reservation site has not been working. called the 519-744-1555 this morning and explaned the problem. was transfered over to a mr. lou who said the last person/employee left that part of the resort yesterday. had told him about some problems up there. mr. lou said he will call me back later today / tomorrow and will take care of my reservation and fix the problems. if you are having any problems give them a day or so to fix things. but the 519-744-1555 is a good contact #. thanks to reiny rooster and any others up there taking on this big project. what has happen is beyond their control. i am lookig forward to make this big and far ride. my 13 y.o is really excited about this trip i've taken her to the big bend park area here in texas, but this ride will really putting her to the iron butt test. peace to all don
  2. All HD Rockers have been recalled back to the factory for manufactoring defects. Also HD will not fix gear whine on all six speed models, but you can buy a gear to fix the problem! Is this a way for buyers to have to spend more money. Cable less throttles are giving problem too, with oil temps running at 290 degress or hotter. tew47
  3. Nance and I made it home about 8:00 p.m. tonight with our new bike. First we would both like to thank Squidley & Lonna for going over to see the new toy. Second, we would like to thank Tim(Toyman) & Karen for having a pristine first gen and their hospitality. Nance still has not had a ride on it because she had to drive the car home, but we are going to fix that tomorrow. We are looking forward to riding with all of you again, and we both want to thank you all again for your thoughts and prayers after my crash. Here's the pics.
  4. My 83 standard has been skipping in 2nd, hasn't been i big problem kinda planned on fixing it this winter. Last night though me and wife went for a ride and i lost first gear. skipping 2nd is easy but skipping 1st and 2nd riding double is tough! I'm guessing it really won't be that much more to fix it all than just 2nd but i thought I'd see what people here thought about about it. I'd really rather have a royale with adjustable air ride for switching between riding double and solo. Other than the tranny though the bike runs great plastic has a lot of broken tabs but doesn't seem to be anything to bad. Biggest thing is i don't really want to quit riding yet this year and if i can get the parts to fix it i'm guessing i could do that faster than parting it and buying a "new" one.
  5. OK, here goes my stupid question. On my '88 VR after riding when I turn the engine off you can hear the starter disengage. This sure does not seem right. Is this natural? If not what is going on, and how can I fix it?
  6. When second gos out, about how many miles are on the odometer? I've got 38,000 on mine and second seems to be still going strong(knock on wood). I wanted to go through and fix it before it goes out over this winter.
  7. Ok some of you have asked for a pictorial explanation on the second gear fix so here is the start. Step 1 remove outer and inner fairings, radiator cover, side coversfalse tank cover. Step2remove the radiator, crashbars, exhaust, pegs, front to back frame bar. This took me 45 min to complete while dinner was cooking. I will post more tomorrow after I get the motor out and split if I can find the problem with the engine as some of you know I am not removing the motor for second gear I am trying to find a noise in the transmission. Jeff Ok the pics wont upoad so I will try again in the morning
  8. My intercom has just begun to blink out at times. If I thump the stereo, it will come back on almost every time, but I usually just wait for the next bump in the road to kick it back on. It sure seems like a short, but I don't have a clue what's inside the stereo/intercom case. I looked under "Known Issues", but that is not yet restored since the site's crash. I have a new set of J&M phones/mics. Does anyone know what the problem might be & how I might fix it ??
  9. My 93 Has Had A Noise Coming From The Starter Clutch For Some Time Now But Its Getting Worse, Only On Start Up And When The Engine Is Hot It Will Really Make Some Noise. If I Order #7 In The Picture Below , Will That Give Me Everthing I Need To Fix The Problem ?. I Know I Will Need A Cover Gasket. Thanks
  10. In response to my moneypit statement, gearhead asked what I did to stop the clutch from slipping. I guess the easiest is to give ya a rundown step by step. First thing was oem plates, boss, and spring. That helped, but didnt fix it. At the time of install I also cleaned out master cylinder and made sure return hole was clear. Next was a new slave. That helped more, but still didnt fix it. I tried roughing up the metal plates, and adding my old spring in top of the new spring, that helped more but still didnt fix it. At this point I was tired of not fixing it:bang head:. I broke down and ordered a barnette kit for it and a rebuild kit for the master cylinder. Had a hard time getting the thing to take a bleed, but it finally seems right. So, in answer to your question of how did I get it to stop slipping, I guess all this stuff put together( a whole new system except the lines) is what worked. Remember, this bike has 85000 miles on it and sat for quite some time b4 I bought it. At this point I still don't consider myself an expert on the clutch, but I know the one on my 89VR almost intimately. On occasion I consider selling the thing, but when you get right down to it, I like to tinker with the thing as much as I like riding it. (It helps to have another bike that all it requires is turn the key and mash the starter button).
  11. Well, from what I've read, the "I" basket seems to be a temporary fix to a permanent problem. And not so much a problem, but it's just the way th bike is. I'm wondering, instead of using the "I" basket fix, maybe there's a way to minimize the noise by using sound deadening material around the clutch basket externally. If doing the "I" basket is not 100%, lets find a way to at least permanently reduce the noise in all applications. Any suggestions?
  12. After reading the great article on how to fix the "H" pipe baffle rattle,I'm wondering if any one has tried this without removing it from the bike???? The only down side that I see is trying to weld it back together while laying on your back. Any thoughts??????????
  13. Quick question, when i hit my breaks the radio changes stations. I hear noise over the speakers ect.. do i need to get a filter on a line to fix that?
  14. I'm fixing up a 200l RSV salvage I picked up on Ebay. The bike was dumped and there was mostly cosmetic damage. I've been using Plastex to fix broken and missing tabs and mending cracks. This stuff works great!
  15. Craig and I hooked up the wiring for my new piggybacker on a 2002 midnight 2nd GEN. and everything worked right but the 4 way flashers. we used a 5-wire to a 4-wire hookup. I did hook the ground directly to the battery and not the ground wire to blinkers and taillight. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? If so would you email me what it would take to fix the problem. kj4v@bellsouth.net ......Ken
  16. The driving light on the right side is very lose and I cannot tighen it up. Feel like the threads are stripped. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem beside geting a new one. 1997 RSTD. Hate the driving light design. Gene Weir
  17. I just found this on a V-Max WebSight: I have not checked my bike yet ( 89 ) to see if this minor fix applies to Ventures, as well as the V-Max. Its the Red wire from output of the Voltage Regulator going to the Main Fuse holder then to the Battery Positive Terminal. The Information claims this connecting point is just " Crimped" and should be Soldered. Why, because there is a 1 volt voltage drop across the crimp connection. At least thats what is Claimed. I can't confirm it yet. Check this web address, http://www.vmaxoutlaw.com/main.html On left of page click on v max tech + Info: Then Scroll down to and find, " Crimp" connection fix. It gives Schematic information, and some good photographs as to how to do the " fix " The Fuse holder looks same as on 1st Gens. I will check mine tomorrow, or as time presents itself, being that I am now Retired, Time is in fairly short Supply. And its January and its Cold in the Garage, and I just got home with a 6 pack !!
  18. Does anyone have info on replacing the plug wires on a first gen? Can I go to resister wires and regular caps, and do I need 7, 8, or 8.5mm wires? I seem to remember a good tech article here BC, but can't find anything now. Gonna do a long trip in Sept and need to fix up the bike.
