  1. I have a Venture Royale that I picked up for $300.00 and is in pretty decent shape. I also ride a 1200 Aspencade Goldwing that I have done alot of work on. Put a new battery in,new fuel filter and lines, plugs, chacked air filter and it fired up on the first spin. Put seafoam in and ran on center stand for awhile. Great throttle response and good idle only when it idles there is an occasional pop coming from the rear cylinders in the exhaust area.Any thoughts on what it could be? Maybe leaking from exhaust flange? I cant ride it yet as I need to fix the sightglass on clutch master, repair rear brakes and master and fix the fan. Fan works if unplug and ground out so may be temp sending unit. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
  2. I have a 06 RSV with the pillow top seats. Have just noticed that there is an area on both the passengers and riders seat that is turning gray, like the black dye is fading. has any one else experienced this? Does any one know how to fix this an do you think it would be covered under the factory guarantee ? The bike is always garaged and I have frequently used leather products on the seats.
  3. Last Friday and Saturday, three buddies and I took our first two-day ride of the spring. The tour was about 700 miles round trip through the hills of Southern MO and Northern AR and was it terrific! The weather was perfect; cool in the early mornings, but 70ish midday. Was it nice to get out and just ride and visit with the guys. For those of you who haven't had the opportunity yet, I FEEL LIKE A NEW MAN. GET OUT THERE QUICK, YOU'LL FEEL BETTER TOO! I think that fix will last about 2 weeks...maybe...but it sure is nice summer is on the way!
  4. While do my spring fix on my 87 VR standard I noticed that the muffler near the tail pipe does not look long for the world. Anyone know where I can get a replavement..
  5. Usually i can figure out how to fix a problem but this time im stuck. Ive got some kind of malware or something on my puter that redirects my browser. If i search for something and try to go to it my browser ends up going somewhere else.....sometimes when i click back it will then go to where it was sposed to, sometimes it wont.....this is getting extremely frustrating.... sometimes in the address bar i see "abcjump" when its doing this..other times i dont... I have done searches on how to fix or get rid of this and im not getting anywhere.......add to that it redirects me whne im searching also... I have adaware, spybot search and destroy and avg running on my puter.....i also tried to restore my system ( xp) to an earlier date and it wont do it......arrrrrrr anyone have any ideas or help to offer? I have been using IE because foxfire was giving me probs a while back and I deleted it.....I also have avant browser and it seems to be infected also...
  6. After searching and reading over the searched items on this forum, I didn't find a quick homemade fix of a fuel petcock knob replacement for an '84 Venture. Understanding that most just leave it on reserve and forget about it because: -too awkward to reach while riding anyway -who needs prime when you have a fuel pump -$36 to replace with an OEM plastic one I still would like to make it functional and am thinking of things to thread in the existing petcock, such as a bolt with some kind of flat headed bolt to have enough leverage to be able to turn on occasion. Mine is missing the knob altogether. Metal would hold up better anyway, right? Any thoughts?
  7. Alarm-tilt mercury & hidden switches See other post. Aux/DRL's to H3 LEDs to reduce load by >100 watts/ 9 amps $24 Ebay Buy spare parts ahead, if something gives out on trip they can be overnighted, rather than waiting a week… Take enough tools so most any repair can be done on the road $20 Walmart tool kit Take withs especially on long trips: Insulated Wire, Electrical tape, 5 min Epoxy/Super glue, tire repair kit, tie wraps, 1 spark plug, 1 qt. oil, small flashlite, tire gauge, valve core removal tool (kind in the cap), drinkable water use for radiator/battery too. Fuses, Green Slime or Fix A Flat, padlock & chain, paper funnel, small 1st Aid Kit, spare key, rag(s), Dawn (Hand cleaner), Windox, grease, hypoid oil. Just carry enough in small containers to get you to the next Walmart/town. Flat spotted/worn in the center tires, handle poorly. Do not pull out nails/screws out of the tire until you are where you can fix the tire. Carry $10 air compressor Harbor Freight & Walmart Install a power outlet for air compressor/accessories Maps are cheaper and won't get stolen like a GPS Check Battery condition easily, Key Off. 12.6+volts Fully charged, Most not all types. 12.4 =3/4, 12.2 =1/2, Slow turning or needs boost charger = time for new one. Red On Sale $3 Voltmeters at Harbor Freight are compact, accurate enough for trips. If you take parts/tools you will not need them, don't take them and you will need them! I service/buy bikes frequently. I frequently find most bikes rarely get proper servicing. Batteries, carbs, tires, oil, brakes go first, usually in that order. Honestly how often to you check?
  8. I just bought a 83 VR a few weeks ago and have been running through the little problems a 25yr old bike has. Main one was the starter (Wooo Hoo that was fun, twice, rubics starter from hades, lol ) Just finishing off some wiring issues on the accessories that wern't up too par for my liking. Now... Ive looked as best I can but can't seem to find the sending unit for the fuel lv. My guage is up and down with the wind. I count my km's but that flashing red light is making me crazy. All I hear is "fix me...fix me", lol I'm sure it's just a bad ground but Waldo seems to have taken it and gone underground, lol. So.. if anyone has seem Waldo and the ground plz let me know..Thanks Knees In The Breeze
  9. I had a crack in the bottom of my trunk. Now it is a large crack with a chunk missing. I need to fix it or replace it. I was watching one on ebay but it sold for $190 plus shipping and it was the wrong color. Is there a cheaper way to get this fixed? Mine is burgundy (88 VR)
  10. we bought a forclosed house last year and for some reason in the ceilings all the joints are cracking and some have some chunks coming out. I was told its because it sat empty in the winter for at least two years and now with the heat and all everything is changing. Whats the best way to fix this so I dont have to do this again later? it has textured ceilings also so that makes it fun. Thanks!! I dont have anyone else to ask and figured someone here would have a good idea.
  11. After my 2000 Venture was totaled I bought 2003 to replace it. The 03 had a whine that I knew was probably the notorious clutch whine. As I rode it more and more I figured out that it was definitely a rear end noise not clutch. I took it to 3 diff dealers and was told clutch basket. The dealer I liked best for the fix told me that would help but not fix the noise. I assured him I would not settle with that knowing I had 86k on bike that was totaled with zero noise. I told him I didn't want him or any dealer doing it if they were promising that it would not fix it! To shorten this long story a little......Yamaha got back to him and told him....WE DON"T HAVE A REAR END PROBLEM WITH THE VENTURE BUT.....If he don't mind taking it to dealer in Seymour In. he could fix the problem and they would pay him to fix the problem it does'nt have! I live 3hrs from there in Ohio but always up for a ride...Gen II Yamaha's deny needing any shims because of great machine tolerances......The Dealer is Dan's Cycle Sales Yamaha and they build Venture and other Yamaha trikes. I was told that the Venture Trikes they convert would lose the Yamaha whine when the rear diff was gone. Within an hour I watched him take it apart and shim it and then test ride it. Gary ask me to test ride it too....I came back hating to tell him that the noise was much less but still their....but he was on the phone and I had to wait to tell him......when off the phone he ask me what I thought and I told him....He then told me he was on the phone with Yamaha getting auth. to install new rear end......DONE FIXED NO NOISE I did learn from watching him how he figures the amount of shim needed to fix most whines. 12. After Rick Butler's post on the thread about the "Furbur Fix" being used on a Second Gen. I placed an ad in the classifieds in Second Gen. Parts and Accessories. I didn't want the Second Gen. boys to feel left out! With that big ol' front tire on the Second Gens., they need all the help they can get! Earl
  13. This isn't about my scoot but I suppose it could apply. Seems I have a coolant leak at the head gasket just where the head meets the block at the right front of the engine. It's a V8 Dodge 5.2L. There's no coolant getting into the oil and doesn't appear to be any combustion gasses getting into the cooling system (yet). The leak is very slow. I tried a couple inexpensive (less than $15) "stop leak" products but that doesn't appear to work. Been reading about a product called "Thermagasket". I know anything like this is only going to be a "temporary" fix and I'll eventually have to replace the head gasket (which I can do myself) but my garage is full of other stuff including my scoot and I really would prefer to wait until warmer weather before tackling this. Has anyone on here had any experience with "Thermagasket" or other similar such products that you'd care to share? I'm hoping to at least temporarilly fix this leak but I find it a waste of time trying one product and then the next only to find they don't work...would rather try something that at least someone I know has had success with. Thanks
  14. Nice to see that the Boss has upgraded the site. One thing I don´t like though is that I got little X´s in all the small boxes all over the page. What´s up with that:confused07: Can I fix this or is this a bug on the web site? Maybe I need to install a "active X" software or something . Am I the only one seeing this?
  15. Hey everyone there is a 06 Venture on RideSafely.com. Low mileage and looks to be an easy fix Joshua
  16. Gary and I went riding yesterday. I have a 95 1100 Virgago. Anyway, I notice an oil ring about an inch wide on my left front fork. He thinks it's the seal in it. Anyway, took it out and noticed it wasn't "feeling" like normal", so I had him drive it. He definatley thinks it's the seal in the front shock. So, here's my question. Is this something we can fix ourselves or does the whole bike have to go into the shop? (I consider myself lucky, as I've had the bike and have never had a single problem) Just hoping this isn't major surgery. Any advise would be appreciated!
  17. 87 VR has sat since Oct, last year. THe front caliper is sticking now. What is the fix? Kevin
  18. When I move the cursour over a post it normally opens a little block that lets me see the first couple lines of a post. It does not seem to work anymore. IS it the site or my computer ? If my ciomputer what do I do to fix Brad
  19. On my dash headlght warning lamp (the white one) is always on the headlight bulb is fine. Is this supposed to be on all the time or does it indicate a problem? What do I need to look for to fix it? Thanks Jim.
  20. the raido on my 84vr and my 89 vr will not switch to fm is there any way to fix this???????
  21. My signature block (and some others that I have seen) are getting cut off at the bottom. I don't know what I can do to fix the situation. I have tried to resize the font and the graphics, but nothing seems to work. Appreciate any help. Jim T
  22. Hey I was washing my bike and noticed that the front air deflecters were almost ready to fall off. Seems the vibration has about done them in. What is the fix if any for these?? Seems like there was a thread on it a while back but I was unable to locate it.
  23. I cut my windscreen down and went a bit too short, now I am getting blasted right in the eyes with the wind. If this stuff works as advertised it would be the perfect fix. Anyone used it? http://www.saeng.com/4000.htm
  24. Even with my 40+ years experience working on bikes and cars, I still occasionally need help with the idiosyncrasies of an individual vehicle. Take for example I searched for "wander" and found the fix almost immediately. How to check the "Boost Sensor". And many other repairs. I will have to remove the engine to fix 2nd gear and the entire procedure is right here. Thank You All. I had a BMW K1200LT. Their website is formated much like this one but Yamahas are so much more reliable and easy to work on, I see almost no negativity here. Thank you all for your help.
  25. I found this while surfing around today and I got to wondering if anyone around here had tried this air suspension out on their scoot? Its expensive but if it works ok, it might be a good fix for someone. http://www.streetboutiquecustoms.com/yamaha.htm Brian
