After reading the excellent thread on this site on how to fix the flexing problems in the engine guards, I made the repairs yesterday. I did it as the thread said to, and without a glitch. I just can not believe that Yamaha does not know that this is a poor design and a real weak spot. God forbid anyone dropping their bike prior to doing the fix, I'm sure a lot of bodywork would have to be done. The hardest part of the entire job is taking off the floorboard mounts, they are torqued on and with blue locktite. The 1" 3 piece bar clamps were the most expensive items on the list, at $7.99 each from J&P Cycles. Part # 7000127 . Do yourself a big favor and make this fix, you will not believe how solid it makes the engine guards!

dose every one with a c\t get a wobble? if not how do we fix it?

I have noticed a funny rattleing sound ,that I think may be coming from the exhaust.I have been told that these bikes have a problem with the collector box! Is this true and is there a fix? Thanks Stan

My Venture sprung a leak. I have done a search but none of the situations seem to give me any help. The left head cover gasket is leaking. Not bad but it leaks and I don't like it. It is the gasket near the top of the engine (right under the chrome covers). It has just started. My Venture is 9 years old and has 47,000 + miles on it. I have a few questions; 1) Will it hurt to keep riding it until I have a chance to fix it? B) Is it something I can do or should I take it to a dealer? 3) If I do take it to a dealer is it very expensive to fix? D) Should I change both now or just the one that is leaking?

Looking into LED's out back for the tail and brake light. Tried the simple fix with a 1157? and had the display tell me the light was out. Is there a simple fix for the non technical rider, other than live with the display????? Saddle_Bag:fingers-crossed-emo -
I have an 07 RS Venture from new. It now has 40,000 kms on it. I have a few problems... some of which have been there since day 1. My dealer has tried to resolve some and not tried on others. The chirp/whine clutch basket noise is a common one and I am planning to talk to my dealer..... again....about trying to fix that one. My question is... do any of you other Venture owners have the other problems I have? If so, were you able to fix them and how? 1) whine/chirp at some rpms. Getting louder now, with 40,000 kms on the bike. Dealer response??? nothing. Do any of you think this is worth pursuing? It is getting very annoying lately. 2) groaning sound from swingarm or rear shock when flexed (sitting and bouncing up and down) when the bike is cold in the morning or on cold days. Mostly an embarassment but the bike has not always done this. Dealer response? lubed swingarm bushings, shock mount pivots, still the same. 3) Accelerate Button on cruise does not always respond to single incremental push. Dealer response? replaced switch assembly, and I think entire cruise electronic box. Still the same. 4) handlebars, forks, seem to point to the right. Bike runs straight, but points to the right. I have initial suspicion that the rear wheel is not true vertical relative to the frame. Dealer response? Bike seems to run normally to everyone else. Any help or comments greatly appreciated. -
Good morning to everyone, Well I just pick up my 09 Venture yesterday black/red man she ride and sounds like caddy.. Only one issue the speedommeter doesn't seem to move with ease, it acts like it is hanging if I can do a fast repair or fix I will but if I need to take it to the dealer that is not a problem.. Has anyone else had this problem? Also since I a proud owner now I will be joining today... Thanks guys/gals Scary

if the water pump leaks after you stop the engine.. does that mean you need a new water pump? or can you get the parts to fix it? is it simple to fix? does any one have one to sell? Curious minds NEED to know.. :crying::bang head: thanx..

Hi, I recently developed an afterfire on my 84. Upon further inspection, I have one fair sized crak near the very rear of my collector.. I imagine there may be more.. Time to fix I suppose...How much effort and job to remove this and weld....I think the baffles are okay. Any tip or trick to speed removal or make it easier? Thanks Clay

I am telling you up front that I do not know what I am doing with this Photobucket thing but we will see if it works or not. These are our photos from our trip to South Dakota. I think I still have more too. But I think this will do it for now. I do not think this is even in the right order. Too much time to fix it. I have found another Venture cheap $500. It is an 84 in excellent condition and runs well. The problem is the transmission. 1st and 3rd are fine, 2nd skips and it will not go into 4th or 5th. Sounds like it is shot to me. What is the availability of parts and how much ballpark figure to fix it? Even if I have to replace the transmission. Recommendations as to buy and fix or not. I am reasonably mechanically inclined and have worked on bikes in the past so I may be able to do the work myself. -
I pulled my rear 2 plugs last night and looked at them just out of curiosity. They were white and looks like it is running lean. My question is, what causes this and how do I fix it? It's an '05 RSTD.

I just installed LED taillights and now I'm getting the warning light on the monitor. If I leave one incandescent bulb in, it doesn't trip the computer, but it doesn't look as good either. I know that somebody around here knows the fix other than black tape over the red warning light! (I fixed the battery warning light that way until I could get around to adding the resistor!) So, what's the fix? The LEDs that I used have a ring of lights around the base to hit the reflector. They don't reflect as much as a regular bulb but they are brighter anyway. I will probably go with the turn signals when I can afford them. The question is: Will I run into this again with the reduced load on the turn signal system? I mostly start engine in neutral but when I start it in first gear with clutch in the bike will creep forward while starter is engaged and stop when it starts.Do I need to fix something or just make sure all starting is done in neutral. thanks Curtis

How do you repair a 1st Gen speedometer mine is 10mph high so it says I'm doing 70 mph really doing 60 mph How do you fix it?

Well, my right side muffler has broken off. If someone has the "H" pipe for a '83 Venture, I'd be happy to buy it. I have that dreaded E1 error in the ride control system. When I open it up, then It goes away, I know it has to be a loose wire, but which one so I can fix it? Wilkie

I don,t like the antennas on my bike. First of all, I'll never use de CB. I prefer listening music. Could you tell me if I can replace those antennas and install a new one directly on the fairing? Like a shark blade as we see on the top of many cars like Honda Accord 2009, Mazda 6 and many other car. By the way, How coud I fix the chrome trim on my fearing, It still goes off a little bit all the time Thanks for your reply P.S. I'm riding on a midnight venture 2007

I'm not sure of the year, stupid me didn't look at the title. it's been garaged in a heated climate controlled garage approx 2000-2001 sometime. A friend of mine bought it, rode it for three months, parked it for the winter, and it's sat there ever since. Wonderful luck it was a climate controlled garage, though! he fogged the tank and carbs after draining them.. we put some gas in it and a brand new battery and volia, started and revved just fine. now, i know that the brakes need rebuilding, and the right hand cover has some broken tabs to fix, the hydrolic clutch master and slave i am sure should be drained and cleaned and/or rebuilt, as well as the tires replaced. I didn't test ride it, so i'm not sure how it'll do on the road, might have to clean up the carbs, might get lucky with some seafoam since he fogged them, who knows. seems to be an 86 if i am understanding the colour chart here on the website right? anyone confirm? looks just like the pic of the first series, but clearly says 1300 on the cases. It did blink a warning light a few times on accessories, but i've been reading about those issues and am pretty confident i can fix them. radio, air suspension, and all the dash, all the lights and accessores i tested worked great, except a rear turnsignal. i'm pretty stoked, its gonna come home to me as soon as i get my tax credit for the house ( should be any day now, but it is moving at the speed of goverment. best part, i got it out the door for 1200, and that includes 2 1/2 hours one way drive delivery!

Had both knees scanned last Wednesday. Results show I have a degenerative joint disease. I was hoping it was something they could fix. Oh well I hope my sinus surgery goes better on the 22nd.

While trying to tighten my radio antenna on my 99 RSV I accidently tightened the wrong nut and snaped the antenna off the mounting nut. Has anyone ever done this? Is there a cheaper fix then the $100 replacement? Or does anyone have a spare mast lying around? HELP!!!! Big Mike

If memory serves me right, there was a problem with the '83 to '85 trunks cracking. I think there was a fix for this. I'm sure there are a few members who could remember what the fix was. Also has anyone figured out a way to put a string/cord/something to stop the trunk from opening to far. Seems I can't shake my Venture roots. Even with the Nomad I need Venture parts on it. The venture trunks fits extremely well and does inprove the looks. Cmor

I have an 84 that I was going to fix and ride but after playing with it and taking inventory of the problems that need fixing,mainly the motor smokes like crazy but still runs fairly well I think I am going to part it out. Take a look at my ad if there is anything anyone wants. I was thinking about dropping a 1300 in the frame but dont seem to be alot around here and way to much money on ebay for something I know nothing about.Maybe later I will buy a 1300 that I can actually ride with fewer problems.Also have new set of Diaphrams I just got from Sirius and a heavy duty fork brace. -
Dag-Nab-It broke a bolt off on my RSV seat today. I had one loosen and fall off one time and luckily found it sitting on the engine. So, today after doing some maintenancec, i tightened one too tight . Any ideas on a fix? When I do come up with a fix, I'm gonna add some small rubber washers between the seat pan and the nuts to keep them from loosening. Maybe use a light strength version of Lock Tite on them.
