  1. Hi- looking for a cmu for the 85vr. I can't locate a reason why 3, sometimes 4 warning lights are on as well as the red warning light, so I am down to shotgunning it. Ordered a fuseblock kit from skydoc, and I'd like to locate a cmu in the meantime. I "think" 84-86 will fit but I'm not sure and hate to buy an incompatable one. (if I can even find one). Thanks! Kevin
  2. Could someone tell me how far back in years will they fit the 08 RSTD? Looking at a remanufactured one on Ebay from a 97.
  3. I'm thinking of recovering the seat , back rest and passenger backrest and arm rest on my 91 royale. i was wandering as I've tried to use the search mode and cant find an answer. What years will fit my 91 as I see nice set for an 83 I think in the classified set I may try to work a deal on if it'll fit. any help will be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance David
  4. So when I bought my bike from the dealership (2006 RSTD) it didn't have an owners manual. For my old Honda, the owners manual was a little book about 5" wide, 3" tall and about an inch thick. It fit on one of the side covers for the bike. This way if you were ever on the road and had a minor service issue, you could refer to the book. I never needed it, but like wearing an armored jacket and a helmet, I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Anyway, I ordered the owners manual from Yamaha's site because I was expecting something about the same size that would slip right into one of the little pockets in the hard bags. I figured that it was worth the $$ to have the right sized manual that fit into the pocket (where I assumed the manual went) rather than print out the Owners Manual PDF that I could get for free online from Yamaha. The Owners Manual showed up today and I'm a little disappointed. Rather than being the little small booklet that would slip right into the pocket, I've got a book that's 8.5" wide by 6" tall and not quite a quarter of an inch thick. It won't fit into what I thought was the "manual pocket" and now I'm kind of bummed that I spent $30 on it.
  5. On the way back from MD my radio crapped out. Stopped at rest area to look and antenna was draging behind me. Broke off the rack. Question is what racks fit?? 85- 93??86-93?? or 83-93?? Ithink it is 86-93 but wanted to check. Several on fle-Bay right now. Just missed one for 109 bucks forgot to bid. Maybe he will relist it. It was 86 pretty sure that would fit my 86.....
  6. see how you fit on your bike http://cycle-ergo.com/ play around with it. you can have your feet on the ground as well.
  7. I've looked at the previous posts on adding a fairing to a RSTD. I really like the looks of the stratoliner deluxe fairing and was wondering if anyone happened to know how much modification would be necessary to make it fit an RSTD...I've seen the ones that look like a harley fairing, but am wanting a different look... Any input? Thanks!
  8. No, not the hard way, I just did that but as a result I really should replace my helmet, so I'm thinking helmets are tested to see if they meet DOT standards, but how much more can they handle? I realize there is a point where it doesn't matter how strong the helmet is, 'cause you're going to be dead. A $60 helmet and a $600 helmet both meet DOT standards, all I've found so far is that the more expensive helmet is going to be quieter, more comfortable and may (or may not) fit better. Someone who wears a helmet when he/she has to to cross state lines for a couple of hours will buy the cheapo one, I'm more interested in protecting my noggin best I can, so is there a study which actually compares fail values for various helmets so that you can see whether you pay for the name, or if a specific helmets actually has better protection value along with comfort and fit. :scratchchin: Oh, I'm thinking a modular if it will allow me to put it on and take it of without having to remove my glasses (titanium frame)
  9. A few months ago I bought a Saddlemens seat from the classifieds here. It had a separate trunk seat back cover, which needed to be installed over the old pad. After removing the old cover with its 100 staples (or so it felt) I tried to staple the new cover on. My old staple gun just wasnt up to the task. I called a local auto upholsterer who quoted me a price of 80 bucks an hour. So, it would probably have run me about 40. I tried Sargents Cycle, which is located here in town and the guy said to come on by right now and they will take care of it right away. Cost would only be about 15 bucks. I got there about 1:30 and at 1:40 I had my pad back, looking like it came from the factory. They even steamed it to fit nice and snug. Took out my money and he waved me off. No charge, just remember us in the future. I gave him a tip to give to the installer and we argued about that. He finally took it and off I went. Everyone who passed me in the show room asked if I was being helped while I was waiting. Customer service really impressed me there and they had some really nice seats. I never asked if they had Venture seats but I am going back to them this week to see if they can fit the saddlebag lid covers I have on properly so ill ask them about seats for our bike. http://www.sargentcycle.com/
  10. We have a trip to St. George coming up end of next week and I decided I was going to have to take the trailer with. I've had the Piggybacker for a few years and used it on occasion but always thought it looked too plain, so.....thought I'd make it fit the bike: http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/Piggybacker/SANY0014.jpg
  11. Can anybody tell me if a hitch taken off of a MKI fit onto an MKII ?

  13. got it today. i wasnt really sure what i felt at first. i thought it might be larger (46L). i was concerned that my large, full-faced helmet, wouldnt fit. it didnt in the stock trunk. i had to force it closed. overall, i wanted to fit my helmet, save weight, and have lights. well, thats what i got. JUST that. the Bestem came with a universal mounting plate which worked perfectly, except, i had to use bolts that were about an inch shorter to clear the taillight lens. no biggie. i am a little disappointed in the wiring harness. its really fine gauge wire. and, the LED harness seems like an afterthought. but it works. wiring was straightforward, but, it did not come with directions...weird. it also came with an extra set of side panels in black, instead of this orangy-red, but, i kept the red ones on. obviously, i got this for more visability. my old trunk leaked, rattled like a can of bolts, and was cracked in several places, not to mention, it weighed 23lbs. the Bestem weighed in at 12lbs. thats what i wanted. so far, ive shaved off almost 60lbs off my ride! enjoy!
  14. Off the top of anyones head, will a stator/engine cover from a '83 1200 fit on the '88 1300. In the picture it looks the same, but don't want to bid if it doesn't fit. thanks all Markus
  15. Will a 1986 back rest fit on a 85 ?
  16. I have a 1984 venture which I'm in process of getting running.. I have a lead on a 1991 venture the guy wants 300.00 dollars for says it ran last year .. but couldn't get it started this year . He said he put sea foam in it ... I have not laid eyes on this bike yet.. just wanting to know if it is a waste of time ? So will any of the parts from a 1991 fit a 1984??? thanks
  17. I have a chance to pick up a hoppe at a good price, However Hoppe tells me the Roadstar Fairing will not fit on the Tour Deluxe as the radio is set to low. Has anyone modified this fairing to fit a RSTD?
  18. I really like riding my 84 basket case I assembled this spring, but am thinking of doing the fjr rear swap for the low end torque and i'm thinking it will help when skipping second gear. My question is what years from an fjr1300 will fit? I know someone on here sells the shim(skydoc I believe) what else is necessary besides elbow grease? Thanks, Ray.
  19. It seems like the 1.st gen front tyre has an odd dimension (for a front tyre): 120/90-18H 65H. I have a hard time finding a front tyre form my XVZ12 I plan to fit a Michelin CommanderII at the rear so what could be a suitable rubber in front?
  20. ok, so if your tall like me (6'3), you might have some problems with 1st gen mirrors. i do. i see mostly shoulder, and that wasnt cutting it any longer. i had a difficult time finding mirrors for our ride that have a 1" center-to-center mounting. in fact, i couldnt find any at all. several hours worth of research later, and i decided to do this: i used the old mounts, bought some mirrors from Dennis Kirk (after looking through dozens of them!), and hooked em up!. the mirrors came in a pair for 16.00 plus shipping. i like the price as well as, the cool 80's look they have. they are EMGO ROADHAWKS. first, i removed the old mirror from the mount. then, i drilled out the hole to hold the new mirror. fit perfectly, except....you cant fit a 10mm nut in there. so...i drilled out a space for the nut to fit in, being careful to not drill it out fully. i didnt want the nut to spin around. problem solved! a little finessing, some locktite and final adjustments....VOILA! custom mirrors. enjoy!
  21. I just recived my new backrest from Utopia and I'm just a bit concerned about the measurement back . They say 1 1/2" from the front of the molded drivers bucket. When I hold this in a dry fit it just looks off . Has anyone installed this backrest on a !st gen and is that right? thanks you all.Bill
  22. Hello, I am brand new to the forum. I am 51 yo, been riding for 30 years, many bikes of different styles and brands over the years but never a cruiser. Currently riding a Suzuki V-Strom, which I actually adore. I am 6'2" tall, 225 lbs, 34 " inseam. Lately I have been considering a cruiser/touring bike. I am not interested in any Harleys, but have been looking at some Japanese bikes. My local dealer has one last brand new red 2009 RSTD, which I can buy for just over $12k on the road. He sells many brands and models, but says this bike, with all its features, at this price with the 5 year warranty cant be beat. I think I fit nicely on the bike, although I've never ridden a bike with my feet out in front of me. I am considering this RSTD over every other cruiser due to the way I fit on it and the great V4 engine. But as I read the boards here I have discovered multiple issues, including the gear whine. It seems while many love these bikes, many also have serious issues . . . some never want to get rid of them, some cant wait to dump them. And I cant believe I"m even considering a bike with carburetors in 2012. So I'm just hoping, without offending anyone, if any current owners here believe these are still bikes worth considering in 2012, or have they become outdated, and if that gear whine is a rare occurrence or much more common. I guess what I'm asking is should I consider this bike as a new bike purchase or look elsewhere? Thanks alot in advance for any advice or comments. Craig
  23. I have an '86 scoot and this year I decided to make some wind deflectors to protect my hands better and hopefully widen the air bubble a bit too. They turned out well so I thought I'd share them with you all. After a few nights in the shop tinkering I came up with a design that looks good, does not require you to drill holes to mount and works great as well. Basically it is very straight forward, I used the existing body mount locations to mount the wings. The lower support is from a metal clip board (thin and stiff) and the heads of the bolts fit in the recesses of the faring covers. The upper mount is a 1/8 x 3/4 aluminum that I put in a vice and twisted it. This turns out to be the trickiest piece to fit, but well worth the effort. Mike
  24. I was wondering if anyone knew the sizes available. Are they being made to fit the 1st gen? I really liked the original commanders..
