Looking for help on the location of the fan thermo switch. There are three listings in the schemtics (#31,#40,#68). I'm not sure where the location of the fan (item # 31) is. From what I can tell looking at a pictorial drawing for the part location I've found #40, which is for the carb heaters, which is behind the Right cheek panel. Number (#68) looks to be for the ideat light and its location is on the thremostat block. Question is where is #31 located. My fan has never comes on. I ride in very hot weather, but never heard the fan operate. I've been able to figure out the fan works plus the filter by connecting 12 volts to the connectors. So far I've not been able to find the third thermostat #31. Is there anyone out there that can help retain my hair. There are so many errors in the drawings it has become a hunt and peck situation. Any help would be greatly appreashated.

Has anybody tried this fan upgrade? If so, how did it work for you? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-XVZ1200-XVZ1300-Fan-Switch-UPGRADEdfygt_W0QQitemZ250327262606QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3a48aae58e&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A12|39%3A1|72%3A1171|240%3A1318

OK, so I take off down the highway on my bike and after about two miles this kinda high pitched whirrin' noise starts coming from the front of the bike. It sounds Like it's directly below the front of the false gas tank (where the battery is). I'm thinking that my fan may be trying to go on the fritz, but I'm really not sure. In looking at the temp, it's running way cool and it puzzles me that the fan would even come on at that point. And the noise stops before I can get the bike stopped to check where it's coming from. Any ideas, guys?

I've put 1300 miles on my '84 Venture in the last 2 months. The previous owner had put a toggle switch on the dash for manually turning the radiator fan on/off. As the air temp is now gotten up over 60 degrees with warmer weather, I've had to switch the fan on more, as I expected. Well the original toggle switch froze up and stopped working, so I replaced it with a spare accessory toggle switch I had from my car. It worked at first but now seems to stop working intermittently. When caught in traffic a few times, the gauge will push just into the red, but no signs of boilover or overheating, but with the intermittent on/off problem I can't kick my fan on. Then I'll get moving and it drops down into the green. Do I need a special heavy duty toggle switch or something for this? Why does it work sometimes? What readings do most of you have in warmer weather and when stuck in traffic?

I have a Venture Royale that I picked up for $300.00 and is in pretty decent shape. I also ride a 1200 Aspencade Goldwing that I have done alot of work on. Put a new battery in,new fuel filter and lines, plugs, chacked air filter and it fired up on the first spin. Put seafoam in and ran on center stand for awhile. Great throttle response and good idle only when it idles there is an occasional pop coming from the rear cylinders in the exhaust area.Any thoughts on what it could be? Maybe leaking from exhaust flange? I cant ride it yet as I need to fix the sightglass on clutch master, repair rear brakes and master and fix the fan. Fan works if unplug and ground out so may be temp sending unit. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

My stepson has been riding my shadow of and on. The other day he found a puddle of fairly big cooling fluid under the kickstand. He says it is coming out of the overflow(?) Also says the cooling fan isn't coming on. With the bike being at his place, makes it a bit harder to see what is going on but I told him I'd ask y'all. I supose a lack of cooling might cause too much expansion so I told him to check the fuse and power the fan separately to make sure it is still working. Are there any other things to do to see why it suddenly is "blowing" out fluid? Thanks! btw: Since he prefers to borrow his friends HD, I am open to offers if you or someone you know wants to buy this low mileage bike. Black, 22K miles(+/-), windshield, highway pegs, sissy bar, new leather trunk bag.

I have noticed over the last 3 to 5 years the fan belts seem to make noise after a short time frame. The last two or three that I have bought and installed, they started squeaking or making a little noise after several weeks to several months. If you spray them with say WD40, or let a bar of soap rub against the belt, they quiet right down and several days later you start to hear them agaim. Mostly when they are cold or just started. The surpentine belts is what I'm referring to. A few years back you only replaced a belt when it was cracked however the last couple I did it was for noise. I remember using belt dressings years ago but don't see that like you use to. Anybody else have this issue and what have you done? Thanks. Spotsy

Have you ever wondered where the motor support brace bolt (the one that hides behind the brake reservoir) goes when you drop it while reinstalling the brace? Note to self just remove the reservoir first it makes it easier. Anyway, that bolt ends up in the radiator fan housing. It is completely invisible to the naked eye. I spent at least a half hour or so looking for it yesterday. Finally I got the bright idea to stick my hand in to turn the fan blade. As soon as I started to turn the blade I could hear that sound of metal clanking as I turned the fan. The good news is after a couple of turns the bolt fell out the bottom onto the floor. Super Bowl Sunday was spent successfully changing the spark plugs, air filters and radiator fluid thanks to all the step by step guidance provided here. The next session I plan to add the Gen Mar risers, change the gas filter and of course the oil. Come on Spring!!!!! Thanks for the help, Dave

The bike starts getting warm and overheating when in traffic or sitting still idleing. When I'm moving the temp quickly goes back to normal temp but will start getting hot again while sitting at a light. I don't think the Radiator fan is coming on what should I check for?

I have the 2007 Venture, Today I went for a ride, stopped in my driveway to open the garage door, Pulled the bike in, and the fan was running, I shut the bike off for 10 minutes, and turned the key to check, again the fan, was running. In a hour I'll try again, But this never happened before, and I'm worried.

Got bored this weekend and figured it was time to do a little cosmetic work to the old girl. I'm not a real big fan of chrome (I know, blasphemy!!!) so figured I'd carry the theme out even further.

I do not believe that I have ever heard the cooling fan come on my RSV - even though it is a fairly new ride to me. My Honda Sabre's fan would kick on for short periods and then shut off on quite regularly. It is starting to get hot here in FL and quite a bit of heat is obvious when I am in stop & go commuting traffic. I would think that the cooling fan would kick in at these times. How would I test it to feel at ease that it works or that I need to replace a thermostat or switch or something? Anyone?

My buddy is suddenly having a little bad luck. First the ignition needs replacing. See previous post. Now it seems that the sensor for the fan is not working. The fan itself works, however when the bike gets real hot, the fan will not come on. Dealer says the sensor is gone and needs to be replaced. Apparantly from what he understood, he has to buy the whole fan assembly (fan and sensor) and guess how much??????? $355.00. What is Yamaha trying to do to their customers? Sure sounds like price gouging to me. Is there an aftermarket available? Can only the sensor be replaced? Help. Trust you guys and gals. Sure can't trust the dealers and or Yamaha. Thanks everyone.

Can anyone comment on the Muzzys 6 blade aluminum fan. I notice one available on Ebay right now..and I checked out their website too (same price as Ebay item). I have a 1988 Venture Royale....and notice on hotter days with 'low' or little airflow engine temp runs high. I know they are 'known' for this. Would this fan provide better cooling/cool down? What about fan noise? I appreciate any comments or experience with this item. Thanks. rez
