  1. I love being a grandpa. Our daughter and her husband welcomed their second child, first girl into the family last night at 11:18 MST. Lily is 7 lbs 7 oz and 21 inches. http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/IMG_74471.jpg
  2. Here's our new addition to our family.

  4. ....but it seems that my "Family" aka my Dad has other plans. As many of you know Lonna and I came north for the holidays and to spend some time with family and friends. We have had an awsome time as we have gotten to see many of our riding buddies along the route. My Dad has been needing to get his hip replaced for quite a while now as he walks with a very bad limp. He finally is in a position to be able to take the time off work and is having his complete ball and socket replaced on Wednesday the 6th. Only catch is, he has to have someone here at the house to be able to help him around and do the household chores and help him with getting around. Sooooo Lonna and I have decided to stay here so he doesn't have to go into a nursing home after the surgery. The sacrifises I make for him, either I'm incredibly stupid, or I love the big dummy a lot....probably the latter So I'll be up here with the northern bretheren, freezing my patooties off so Dad doesn't have to go into the nursing home. We'll see all the Texans in about 3 weeks (I hope) and I'm looking forward to getting on the VR and going for a nice long ride
  5. It was just brought to my attention that Don Brechun, username DonB, passed away in September. This is the first I've heard of this and was very sorry to hear the news. If anybody has any details, please let us know. Our prayers go out to all his friends and family. Don was from Windsor, ON, Canada.
  6. Well heading up to NY tomorrow. Have some stuff to drop off for my niece for Christmas, so I'm taking David with me. It's about time he meets the family. Since he is kind of my 2nd husband now. I'll be back around thursday or friday. Margaret

    red Fridays

I don't know how long this will stay posted but I had to give it a try! Red Shirt If the red shirt thing is new to you, read below how it went for a man... Last week, while traveling to Chicago on business, I noticed a Marine sergeant traveling with a folded flag, but did not put two and two together.. After we boarded our flight, I turned to the sergeant, who'd been invited to sit in First Class (across from me), and inquired if he was heading home. No, he responded. Heading out I asked? No. I'm escorting a soldier home. Going to pick him up? No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Iraq , I'm taking him home to his family. The realization of what he had been asked to do hit me like a punch to the gut.. It was an honor for him. He told me that, although he didn't know the soldier, he had delivered the news of his passing to the soldier's family and felt as if he knew them after many conversations in so few days. I turned back to him, extended my hand, and said, Thank you Thank you for doing what you do so my family and I can do what we do. Upon landing in Chicago the pilot stopped short of the gate and made the following announcement over the intercom. "Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to note that we have had the honor of having Sergeant Steeley of the United States Marine Corps join us on this flight He is escorting a fallen comrade back home to his family. I ask that you please remain in your seats when we open the forward door to allow Sergeant Steeley to deplane and receive his fellow soldier. We will then turn off the seat belt sign." Without a sound, all went as requested. I noticed the sergeant saluting the casket as it was brought off the plane, and his action made me realize that I am proud to be an American. So here's a public Thank You to our military Men and Women for what you do so we can live the way we do. Red Fridays. Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the "silent majority." We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing. Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -- and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that ... Every red-blooded American who supports our men and women a far, will wear something red.
  8. Don't want to start anything but if any Ohio members are able to help a family grieve in piece my friend a Marine sent me this Family of Fallen Marine Hero Needs Your Help!!!Share Yesterday at 11:15am Please read the note that I received below and help if you can! This Marine faught and died for people like the ones described below to have the right to protest. This being said, I feel we have a duty to shield the family from these types of people. Please read the note below and join me either on the procession path or in the Human Wall! Here is the note that I received: "Last week, October 20, a 22 year old Marine from Painesville Township was killed in Afghanistan. He is coming home today. Saturday is going to be his funeral at Zion Lutheran Church on Mentor Ave in Painesville (across from Lake Erie College) at 11 am. The funeral procession on Saturday will leave Monreal Funeral Home on Curtis Blvd in Eastlake, travel to route 90, go to Vrooman Road and go North on Vrooman Rd. The procession will go left on 84 to drive past Riverside High School where Lance Cpl David Baker went to school. They will continue past the school going west on East Walnut (84) and continue through to Mentor Avenue. They will then turn East on Mentor Ave (Left) to go to the church. The funeral procession is expcted to leave the funeral home between 9:45 and 10am Saturday morning and to arrive at the church Saturday by 11am. Here is the part that really just frosts me. I dont know how many people are familiar with the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, KS. They have been in the news several times. This "church" has decided to travel to the funeral to protest outside the church during services. They say they protest these funerals because "soldiers are dying for the homosexual and other sins of America. God is now America's enemy and God Himself is fighting against America". That is a direct quote from their "preacher"-a man named Westboro. He is known for preaching messages about homophobia and anti-Semitism. This family is going to the church to grieve for their son - a son who died far away in another country doing what he felt he had to do. Whether you believe in the war or not, he died and his family is grieving. The last thing in the world they need to see as they step out of the limosine at the church is a group of radicals shouting at them and protesting their son and his death. I am of the opinion that, if enough people gather at the church PEACEFULLY, we can form a human wall between the family and this group. They wont have to see them, they wont have to hear them, they wont even need to acknowledge them. They can go in to the church to grieve and bury their son - which should be their only priority that day." I will be there. Will you join me? Buddy (Sgt Raddatz, USMC)
  9. Does anyone have one of these great little hand pumps that they arent using or dont want anymore, I used one the other day and its a great little tool to have, I have found them but everyone wants between 35.00 to 50.00 for them and that doesnt include shipping, so figured I would check with our wonderful family here.
  10. Hello my friends. Yes, I'm in Germany visiting my parents. My dad survived the last 12 month and I'm so thankful to all of your prayers and well wishes. Last Friday my parents celebrated there belated 50th wedding anyversary with 50 family members and friends. Al and I thought it would be wonderful to fly over and suprise my mom and dad. It was very emotional as you all could imagine. I had told my dad that I was a little worried to suprise him, because of his heart, he replied , even if I had died I would have died a happy man. Well, that turned on everybodies waterfaucets. :crying: However, he really ment it. I have only one more day and it's back to the US. Time sure flies when you have fun. I miss Al so much, but It is hard to leave your family behind too. Anyway, it was great to see my dad in good health again. Still a little shaky but otherwise ok. Can't wait to be back. Tally ho
  11. Just got home from downstate. Went down to Marine city to Brad and Lonna's and picked up our new trailer. Brad and Lonna invited us to stay with them for the night and partake in a get together they were having with the family. After they reassured us that we were not intruding, we had a awesome time. Great food and a fun time, and I must say im very envious of there family. Absolutly some of the finest people I have ever met. Now it's easy to understand where Brad and Lonna get there great personality's from. The trailer is sweet, pulled like a dream all the way home and Im excited about customizing it even more to make it our own. Making plans for a color sceme and some tweaks to match the bike some. But this gives me a great jump start to the plan I had of building one this winter- and if it does work out that I can go to Tennessee this fall yet- well I have a trailer ready to roll ! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v405/Hazenson/100_3544.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v405/Hazenson/100_3551.jpg
  12. I went to a funeral today of a very dear lady and friend whom I've known all my life from our church. I don't think she ever had any enemys as she loved everyone. Our preacher is from Florida and he is good natured and the lady who died (Jimmylee) loved to pick at him about the LSU tigers and him a Florida fan. He told the story today of how she would be going down the road and see a sign for LSU and say lets get that and put it in the preachers yard. So, she let it be know to the family and the preacher that she wanted an LSU funeral and her family obliged her today. The grandsons as paulbearer's wore LSU polo shirts and an assisting pastor wore his LSU tie and the Precher said he never thought he would preach in an orange shirt but he did today in honour of her. It was a good funeral service and here are some pics. The preachers came out blurry, sorry. Notice the LSU color casket flowers and a stand reef at the head of the grave in LSU colors.

  14. Zac Chapman is 19 years old and madly in love with motorcycles. Zac’s passion leads his life as he races and works for Family PowerSports in Weatherford, TX. Zac loves his family, his friends and anything with two wheels! On Saturday, August 8th Zac suffered a severe accident on a practice lap at the races in VA. He has been in a coma ever since. Latest update: Zac is currently being treated for an infection. Once the infection is clear they will be placing a ventricular shunt in his brain. This shunt will be permanent and used to replace the current drainage tubes. Zac is currently breathing on his own with the ventilator - the ventilator is on as an emergency backup. There will be a benefit for Zac at Family Powersports in Weatherford, TX on August 29th from 11AM to 3PM. Please try to come.
  15. I did not go any where exotic like the mountains, out west or the north pole but I did want to share a few pictures from my last trip. In between traveling for work I spent 2 weeks on the road (only put on 4600 miles). The main purpose for my trip was to visit with family. My sister just had another baby (boy) so I wanted to spend some time with her and the newest (as well as spend a little time with my niece (child #1)) So that was a stop in Illinois for me. While I was up there I figured my family in Michigan is not that much farther away so I hopped on over there to see my parents and grandparents. My parents have not taken a vacation in about 6 years (not even a weekend getaway for them) and they have been really stressing lately, courtesy of the terrific economy especially in Michigan. So I talked them into taking a two-day 1 night all expense paid excursion with me. My dad's sister lives in Traverse city and my wing is in my parents garage (both of my parents have ridden bikes all of their lives) so we took a nice and leisurely trip up to traverse city (via a very scenic route along the eastern side of michigan) and visited with my aunt and uncle. The next day we headed out just after sunrise (and one heck of a breakfast... My family LOVES to eat; if you couldn't guess we are a family of bikers) drove around traverse bay and followed the coast all the way down south of Muskegon where we picked up the highway and headed back east to Brighton. We all had a great time and boy my parents complain a lot! In fairness we spent about 15 hours from when we left my Aunt's house that morning to final arrival in Brighton. Total we put on about 800 miles between both days. A few days later I spent some time with my grandparents (mother's parents). My grandfather has ridden motorcycles all of his life too (him and my grandmother toured together until he had a stroke at age 75 and was told he would never walk or use his left side again). 8 years later he is walking (he does have limited mobility of his left hand and he cannot bend his leg very far) and doing much better than the doctors told him he would. My grandma told us that once he was able to move around on his own, he would go out to the garage and sit for hours - really upset that he would never drive a bike again. Well, 4 years after his stroke him and I were talking about some of the riding I had been doing (I had just rolled over 8,000 on my GS750 since I had gotten it) and he said that he would like me to take a look at his bike and take it for a ride (he had given all of us grandkids many many many rides on his wing - and thanks to him I developed an addiction to bikes). It took a while, but between me and my dad's brother we pulled it apart, rebuilt the carbs, and did a lot of other work to get it going (since it sat for so long without being ridden). So I took it around the block and when I was going to put it back in the garage for him he said that if I took care of it I could keep it. I'll stop yammering now and get to the point. The next summer I was visiting them and we were talking bikes and he had mentioned that he had never ridden on the back of a bike and would never want to. About 15 minutes later we were out in the driveway and I had managed to talk him into letting me take him for a ride. Now a last week ago when I was up there the first thing he did was ask where I had parked my Venture then went to check it out. So, I asked him if he was interested in going for a ride and his response in about 1/2 a second was . So I took him out for a 45 mintue or so cruise through some reasonable curves aournd there. He enjoyed it. The next leg of my trip was supposed to be a run to the HUB to meet up with the group with a stop in Louisville and Nashville, TN (for more family visiting). But thanks to the flooding in louiville and a few things that came up with my family while I was visiting I had to put those plans on hold and miss the HUB. Overall we had a great trip. The ONLY rain I hit was a 15 minute sprinkle (and I could hardly call it a sprinkle) going through Kansas. The 1st day was HOT (100s+) but it is the summer so that was expected. The last 2 days were hot, humid, and unbelieveably windy (20-40mph). Outside of that I couldn't have asked for better weather (every day was somewhere between 50 and 80 and mostly sunny). Anyways - I included a few pictues here with explanations above. Enjoy!

  17. Just wanted to give yall a big ... being at this rally has really made me feel what a family this is. I felt it on my first in Eureka Springs, then again in Fort Collins...and this time at the HUB. Everyone treated me as a family member even though I don't ride at this time. This is the most wonderful family anyone could want to be a part of. The friendships that are started online are family for sure when ya meet face to face. You talk to people like ya known them for years. Thank you Don for this site and thanks to all the committee members for this rally, You guys did a FANTASTIC JOB. :thumbsup2::clap2:
  18. Okay, showing my dummy side here. I'm leaving for my 30 day ride this Saturday and would like to post pictures and maybe a few lines once in a while for friends and family to follow me. Any suggestions on sites that are user friendly? Thanks

  20. While we were on holidays this week our daughter was going to stay with one of our best friends. We just recieved this email. At Andy's right now, turns out we(I) couldn't've picked a worse time to visit. They're suffering something(understatement) of a family crisis. At something like 6:00-30 some drunk driver crossed the center line and killed three family members- I don't know all the names, but it sounds like an Aunt Rita, a grandmother, and an uncle. Two were killed on impact and the uncle died in hospital. I didn't think I should call at midnight, and I don't think I could've stung the words together anyways. Emotions are... running high, to say the least. Love, and stay safe for the love of God Shyrstyne End: cry Begin: rant
  21. A friend of mine saw this family in Florida on Friday 7/10/09. He sent me the photo from his Blackberry but failed to tell me where he saw them. This looks like a great way to take the family on vacation. Does anyone recognize them - are they members?
  22. Cabin 19 should be available at Vogel. I had it reserved for Thursday,Friday, and Saturday nights.Circumstances have changed and were doing a family outing that week. Have fun whoever gets it.
  23. Note to self: Cancel credit cards prior to death! Be sure to cancel your credit cards before you die! This is so priceless, and so easy to see happening--customer service being what it is today! A lady died this past January, and ANZ Bank billed her for February and March for their annual service charges on her credit card, and then added late fees and interest on the monthly charge. The balance that had been $0.00, now is somewhere around $60.00. A family member placed a call to the ANZ Bank: Family member: "I am calling to tell you that she died in January" ANZ: "The account was nevewr closed and the late fees and charges still apply" Family member: "Maybe you should turn it over to collections?" ANZ: "Since it is two months past due, it already has been" Family member: "So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?" ANZ: "Either report her account to the fraud division, or report her to the credit bureau, maybe both!" Family member: "Do you think God will be mad with her?" ANZ: "Excuse me??" Family member: "Did you just get what I was telling you.....The part about her being dead?" ANZ: "Sir, you'll have to speak to my Supervisor" Supervisor gets on the 'phone: Family member: "I'm calling to tell you she died in January" ANZ: "The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply" Family member: "You mean you want to collect from her estate?" ANZ: (stammering) "Are you her lawyer?" Family member: "No, I'm her great nephew" (Lawyer information is given) ANZ: "Could you fax us a certificate of death?" Family member: "Sure" (fax number is given) After they receive the fax: ANZ: "Our system just isn't set up for death. I don't know what more I can do to help". Family member: "Well, if you figure it out, great!! If not, you could just keep billing her.I don't think she will care". ANZ:"Well, the late fees and charges still apply". Family member: "Would you like her new billing address?" ANZ: "That might help" Family member: "Rookwood Memorial Cemetary, 1249 Centenary Rd, Sydney-Plot Number 1049" ANZ: "Sir, that is a cemetery!" Family member: "Well, what the heck do you do with dead people on your planet????"
  24. Beth and I are home from MD, just one close call on the way back to the motel in Westlake Saturday night, damn cagers! The stebel air horn did it's job and kept us safe! Many, many thanks to Don and Eileen for being such gracious hosts. To ALL who worked tirelessly on the bikes, WOW! Words cannot do justice! Garry and Mary, thanks so much for your hospitality, the shade, chairs, food and refreshments are all very much appreciated. Ian and Pat, looking forward to the six of us getting together for a barbeque and maybe planning something a little larger???
