1. Hi guys, Nice forum! I am a new Venture owner and loving it! I just picked up a Gen 1 VR (86) and I could use some help finding a part. Overall the bike is in great shape but it was dropped by the previous owner and caused some fairing damage. http://www.raymondstacy.com/vr1.jpg I have spent the last few days checking Ebay, CL, Google and I haven't had any luck finding the piece. Any help that you can give me would be very much appreciated. Ray
2. Hi All, I recently acquired a 1989 Venture Royale to add to my stable, and it has the stock CB that works fine. The controller head in the right fairing side does not have a PTT switch like the head that came in my 1983 VR, (and I am not using that one as it didn't have the cb base under the top of the fairing, just the controller in my 83 VR), and was wondering if they are compatible. I don't have the stock headsets, so I don't have the PTT that probably came on them, the rear passenger control has a PTT, but I want one too. Can I just swap out the controllers and thereby have the PTT on my right? I would not have the local /DX button on the 89 controller, but who needs it. I would rather have the PTT. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!
3. Went to work installing my mic cable that I built into the fairing today. I noticed the windshield is moving more than usual. Found the metal mounting strip is broken out of the yoke in the fairing. So it has 2700 miles and has already broken 2 different pieces. I also did the rear end pin lube the other day. It has warranty so I am hoping the dealer will fix the tab issue. I don't think I should be having this much trouble. The middle bolts were never installed... It had a zip tie there in place of one of the bolts. Do they have monkeys putting these things together? Wondering if I bought the wrong bike? Frank
4. I am looking at moving my TCI to the airbox but I can't see how to remove it from the stock location. I have the battery box out and don't want to remove the fairing. Can anyone tell me how this thing is mounted? Thanks
5. OK, I miss my first gen already, although the royalstar is significantly quicker, I have too much wind even with the lower deflector wings on the forks. I was thinking of putting on a fairing to decrease the wind on the bars, but don't know if a fairing made for the roadstar would fit a 00 Stock Royalstar. I have the speedo on the tank, so no issues there. Any input? I noticed several with RSTD's that the speedo becomes the problem. Or would I be better off putting Flanders bars on and the a harley fairing. I already have a trunk and hard saddlebags in mind. Maybe I would have been better off waiting for a RSV in my price range to come along.
6. Thnking of adding the sportech fairing to my RSTD. For those that have added one to a RSTD I have some questions. 1) Is there any noticeable difference in wind protection at interstate speeds, 70+ mph. 2) After going through the effort and expense would you recommend it or just look for another mc like the RSV. 3) I like the looks of the sporttech, but like most they only have a mounting bracket for the Roadstar. Will the roadstar bracket work with the RSTD? And in general, those that have done it the pros and cons, tks.
7. I need to replace the front right fairing panel on my '86 VR. I might be able to repair the one I have, but it is quite badly broken. Does anyone know if all the First Gens used the same front fairing? I read somewhere that they did. If that is the case I will only have a color problem. So ... Will the front fairing panels from the early first gens fit the '86 on models? Thanks.
8. Looking for some help. I have an 05 RSTD with the quick disconnect windshield. I want to purchase the wide open plactics audio fairing and they say it uses the factory windshield mounts. After looking at the pictures on the web page they show an 05 RSTD with the fairing but the windshiled brackets are not the quick disconnect style. Does anyone know if the windshiled brackets for a 2001 RSTD will fit on the 2005 model? Any help would be great. The web page for the fairing is www.wideopencustom.com
9. OK. Here's what I just did today for additional turn signals. I added a 1 foot long amber LED strip right next to the fairing "eyebrows". Whadaya think?
10. It was just one of those deals that I just couldn't pass up. So, last week I closed the deal on a 1980 Honda CB750 Custom. It only has 19,350 miles on it and the only damage is one the seat where the stitching on the seat has broken (which should be a simple upholstery repair), and a hole about the size of a dime in one of the turn-signal covers on the fairing. It came complete with the original Hondaline Touring Accessory Package - detachable saddlebags, trunk and a full fairing. Aside from adjusting the carburetors, and a slight oil drip (which I have yet to determine where it's coming from), it's seems mechanically sound and runs very smooth. And yes, the weather finally cooperated enough this afternoon for me to shoot some pictures. Good thing I did it today too, it's supposed to snow and blow all day tomorrow. Here's a link to my FaceBook Pics of this bike. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2437511&id=17809521&l=8cd24966d3 Be Safe! Pete.
11. Looking for a set of fairing eyebrows.
12. Ok well when I went to do some things to my bike I found some questionable wiring. I have now split the fairing, removed a TON of PO added unused wire and am cleaning things up. Is there anything else I want to pay special atention to or change while I have things apart? I am also considering replacing the right side of the fairing as when I got it apart I found most tabs broken off, a crack on the bottom, another crack that looks to have been super glued together. I am also considering adding some stuff that this bike does not have, like a cruise control. Thank You all for the info, Shaun
13. is there directions some where on this site for splitting the lower fairing thanks mike
14. I know a lot of us have the 1.5" riser extensions on our RSV's and I don't think anyone has found a great replacement for the 2 rubber dampers that go between the handlebars and fairing to keep the fairing from rattling and flexing. I know some carve up the originals or force them in at some odd angle. I haven't had anything in mine in 2 years and was just going to leave it as is until last week when I found something that works well. I work at a Honda auto dealer and on the new Honda Crosstour there is a cover that hangs by two cords from the liftgate to hide whatever you may have in the rear package area. At the end of each cord is a rubber ball that fits perfectly snug between the bars and the fairing. They are working great on mine so far. I just pushed them in place and they haven't moved. Honda part# is 84413-TP6-A01 and 2 of them should be less that $5.00 and 1-2 days to order in.
15. Here is some progress on my fairing. A friend helped me make the brackets out of plywood as templates to scan into the water-jet machine. As for paint I'm thinkin I'm gonna go with black for now, just to get rid of that white. http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn195/xxMPWATERDAWGxx/0913101329.jpg http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn195/xxMPWATERDAWGxx/0912101249.jpg
16. Looking for the chrome horseshoe shaped accessory on the bottom of the front fairing just above the front fender.
17. I have visors on my running lights, and am planning on doing my turn signal also. but in order to do the headlight on my 99RSV do I have to remove my fairing or is there a way to get it on without doing that.
18. OK, so I ruined my upper deflectors that mount to the inside of the upper fairing when it's split (not the ones down below the lights on the fork). I've got the plastic protrusions that they screw into rebuilt with Plast-Aid since I messed them up with Loc-Tite last month, but the deflectors are irrepairable. Other than ordering OEM replacements at the dealership - for which they want a fortune - does anyone have any ideas on where I can find these? I've searched a number of web sites, and all that seem to pop up are the lower deflectors. I'm interested in both new or used. FYI, the OEM part numbers are: 4XY-2834V-00-00 called Protector 1 4XY-2834W-00-00 called Protector 2 Thanks!
19. The clear protector pieces that screw into the bottom of the fairing on each side to redirect air flow are pretty scratched up & I'm thinking of replacing them. Anyone know if you can get those in a smoke color? Just wondering...not a big fan of the clear pieces.
20. I'm am wanting to install a CB on the 83 Venture I just bought. I have all the parts and cables but I need the upper right side fairing piece for an 86VR where the CB and Class controllers mount. It has the hinged access for the overflow bottle. If anyone has one available I sure would like to buy it. You can contact me at ama-dist45@comcast.net The other option would be to mount it in the original place for an 83 but I can't find any pictures for the location. Happy trails, Barlow
21. Submitted by Tony Dathan. Problem: One of the common complaints about the Yamaha passing light kit for the RSV is that it mounts so close to the fairing that removing the fairing becomes very difficult requiring one to either remove or loosen the passing light bracket. Installation: When the bracket arrives you will need 2 3/8" NC x 3/4" long bolts and lock washers. I got these at Home Depot for under two bucks. Undo your light bar. Use the 8mm bolts to fasten the bracket where the light bar was and then using the 3/8" bolts bolt the light bar to the bracket. Most of us that have the bracket can now split the fairing without touching the light bar or at least just loosening it a few turns. Might depend on the actual lights you have. Basically you undo the light bar, put the bracket where the bar was, then mount the light bar to the bracket! How to get one: You can contact me at dathan@shaw.ca The price at this time is $27.50 USD. That includes the postage as well! The following are some shots I've taken in the past! #5 shows the clearance between the back of the light and the fairing. This started as a way of my being able to clean between the light and the fairing. Taking the fairing off without touching the light bar was just a huge bonus! Attached Thumbnails Sorry to bring this up again, but, I can't find these bolts at Home Depot or anywhere else. Must they be this exact size? The salesman I spoke with didn't know what NC was. I don't either. And is it two & three eighths by three quarters or the quantity 2 of size three eighths by three quarters. Could the NC mean non-corrosive, i.e., stainless steel? Finally, what do the numbers refer to? As you can see, I'm not too mechanical. Thanks in advance for being gentle. LOL
22. Sound like a good(but expensive idea). I want to take all the plastic off my 85, and take it so it can get molded and get a carbon fiber fairing for it. That'd be cool, but its one of those dreams that will never come true.
23. Has anyone taken the fairing from a Venture and mounted it on a Tour Deluxe? If so, can one simply take off the stock speedo on the RSTD and mount the Venture fairing without adding any special mountings? If mounting hardware is needed, does it replace the windshield hardware on the Tour Deluxe? I like the Venture look but need to stick with my Tour Deluxe, which already has the Venture trunk and passenger seat. Pics on my homepage. Hoppe wants big bucks for their radio equipped fairing and I really don't need or want the audio . . . and they don't sell a fairing without the radio/CD. Any guidance would be appreciated. If it's workable, I'll be looking for an undamaged upper fairing off of a salvage Venture. Thanks.
24. First, please forgive my PRIMITIVE art. I am still thinking on the fairing broken tab fix thing... Would this type of set up be possible. A strong brace with three holes, one attached to the bottom speaker bolt, the top one attached to the fairing METAL STRIP and then a second brace that a has a wing (T shaped) that fits FLAT against the fairing and held in place with JB Weld (the wing would give more surface area for the glue to hold). Once the glue has cured, this brace would then be attached to the first brace. This setup might provide a LOT of stability for the METAL STRIP and windshield. The braces would have to cut precisely (so as to not pull to much against the fairing), and also would involve some bending. Here is a VERY bad drawing and the 2nd brace does not show the WING I think would be best for securing it to the fairing. I see no reason to have it replaced if it just gonna break again. I would rather fix it for good. Comments, suggestions and SOME LAUGHTER is appreciated. Wally
