1. So after putting the fairing back together after fixing the wiring to my horn. I went for a ride today and no radio. I thought I checked all my connections while I had things apart but I must have hit the radio connection. So I'll be taking it all back apart tomorrow. I guess there is nothing I can check with out taking the fairing apart.
2. Anybody ever blacked out by paint, decals or powder coating the chrome trim on the fairing on a black bike or other colour.
3. Well I think it is time to come out and confess that I am addicted to relays. It all started about 6 years ago when I added just one relay to my light bar, and then Carbon_One said to try just one more a couple years after that, at first I said NO way. and then I broke down and added the 2nd one. Then after that like two years ago Midlife , Dingy and Carbon_One told me to do two relays at once. then I knew I was hooked. This was one of the threads http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45750&highlight=Cougar The past couple of days Carbon_One has been helping me try this and that with a couple relays and the rest was history. he really knows his stuff and can get you really hooked. so just be careful of him if you should need any kind of help. he will just get you more addicted. JUST SAY NO! I now have to confess that I was telling folks that I now have 6 Relays under the front fairing but I lied and did not say anything about the 2 others that I have as well. one is under the seat for the aux tank and the other is under the right side cover for the horn relay. I felt to guilty to even post pictures of them. here are the one's under the fairing and will make a plate next winter to hang them from. I really feel better now that I have this off my chest. and will be getting some sort of help in the near future for this problem. I know it will be a long road ahead of me but with the help of this group I know I can do it. There is now a total of (EIGHT) personal relays on my Bike. not even counting to OEM one's thanks for listening. Jeff
4. I dont know much about this bike yet so bare with me. Need to replace a speedometer cable on my 83 Yamaha XVZ12TK, can I get the instrument cluster out to get to the back of it with out taking a lot of front fairing off. It seems loose like it will just pop out but I don't want to mess anything up. Thanks Jerry.
5. Went for a nice 5 hour ride today. I notice a little oil on the left brake caliper. Sure enough Its a leaking fork seal. So I say to Robin, I'm going to start tearing down the front fairing so I can pull the forks. She said take it to Lane Yamaha. I said how come, I can do this. She said... Not if I want to stay married:think: See my problem. Anyone know what it will cost to have the dealer do this job?

Just got the fairing back from Mountainman Art, Can't wait to put back on the bike
7. Just starting to "button" it up and only thing left is the engine guard brace. Projects this winter were : => connect Zumo 660 (with Buddy Rich cable) => add fuse block and rewire passing lights and trailer to it => connect gps tracking device => add "cigarette lighter"/accessory connection => connect battery tender quick disconnect For the Zumo... the cradle has wires that are long enough to go into the fairing. With the length of cable supplied with the Buddy Rich cable I ended up having extra wire in the fairing so put some velcro on the inside of the back of the fairing and tie wrapped the cables (with velcro) and stuck it to the backside of the fairing. The fuse block is a ganged 6 fuse ATC so it has : Stebel horn; passing lights; gps; gps tracker; accessory outlet; and trailer connected. Full already ! Slipped in behind the battery. You might be able to see in the picture I put labels on the block showing what was connected and the amp fuse to use (except for the tracker) and labelled the wires as well. In running the wires from the block to the fairing I used split tubing to protect the wires and make them look nice where visible. For the GPS tracking device, it comes with an adapter which I attached to the back fairing using velcro and slipped the tracker under the cassete deck and used velcro again to keep it from rattling/moving. The accessory connection is straight to the fuse block. I didn't use the factory connector under the seat. I might reposition the battery tender connection but for now it is easy to get to.
8. I'm looking for a right side lower fairing for a 2000 Venture (red),,,,, no it's not mine, but a friend of mine has it and took out a coon last year. He's ok but the fairing got the worst of the fight. Anybody that can help out?
9. A little while back my funds were running out and Randy Atkins found a bike for me in TN that needed work but was very reasonable.I bought the bike with the help of Randy and had it shipped down here. I couldn't work on it at first because I am still recovering and the holidays were here but lately I have been able to start doing things to it as you can see in the first pic it needed a right fairing and other things done.I have since replaced the fairing and plastic to the class and CB, changed the oil to Amsoil, flushed the brakes and clutch, replaced the headlight and I have both front and back tires mounted and balanced ready to go on, I had them for my other bike.It still needs more work but it is getting there.I have managed to make a mess in my driveway. Tom
10. My clutch master cylinder has leaked onto my left side fairing weakening some of the plastic on the bottom. I have a replacement top panel, but more worried about the fairing shell. It has broken off a tab , and it "feels" oily. Is there anything I can do, or is it best to just bite the bullet and try and replace this fairing (ebay). I just don't know if plastic welding/glue/plastex, etc.. would work when it is contaminated like this.... I have the shell removed and can post pictures if that helps. Just was wondering if anyone had dealt with this before and had found something that works.
11. sorry new member and dont know where to look for parts for my 89 venture . in need of left side fairing parts blue preferable could paint if needed thanks
12. In the previous thread I told about the work done on the bike and the new paint job. Well, today I went to the garage to get the bike to add running lights and a Strebel horn I had purchased and when I got the bike out, I discovered the clutch fluid had leaked out of the cylinder at the handle and dripped on the fairing!!! My beautiful paint job is ruined and the fairing has split into 6 pieces. I am heart broken. I removed the fairing and washed all the pieces in soapy water and am going to have to try to save the fairing. Question: What can I do to glue it back together and what else can I do to fix the degradation in the plastic. Jim
13. Got my new Clearview Shields installed today. Wasn't quite as easy as some said but overall not too bad. Just an FYI. I bought a blemished one due to the speed I needed it and I still can't find the blemish. Got it for 20% off. Also had the vent included. I took it out for a quick spin and even though it's shorter than the stock there seemed to be less wind buffeting around the head area and it seemed quieter overall. One thing that surprised me what how much damage there is around the fairing where the shield was mounted before. I took the word of someone else and saw it for the first time today. It looked like whoever installed the stock shield put the bolts in way too tight. Most of the fairing was broken/cracked. Hopefully the bolts will hold it in place.
14. Anyone have one of these you would like to get rid of. Eithor side would do. http://thumbs2.ebaystatic.com/m/mDEiy1nIJEDDfzXM_wEgYCA/140.jpg
15. Bought my ’08 RSV back in January. Runs great but has a few minor problems I’ve been getting to slowly. This weekend was cleaning and greasing the electrical connectors in the fairing. The audio has been cutting out intermittently – a problem well documented on this forum. I split the fairing OK but when I went to remove the light bar so I could remove the front portion of the fairing, saw that both 5 mm hex screws were completely rounded. Tried drilling one and using an extractor but broke it off (that’s never happened before:depressed:). I might be able to remove the fairing if I disassemble the running lights but that seems to be getting me further down that black hole I’m trying to avoid. The frustrating part – I can see the connectors I want to clean, just can’t get to them – all because of a couple buggered hex screws. Suggestions? It’s too early to drink.
16. how does one get behind the fairing to do some wireing ..I want to hook up some lights and use the lighter to do it. Whistler
17. On the right side of my fairing where the air pump control is the box is busted up beyond repair. Does anyone have this part they want to sale?????
18. I know how to adjust the up and down the know behind the fairing but how about right to left? Thanks
19. Yesterday while riding on the Highway I noticed my windshield was getting closer to my helmet, then I saw the plastic chrome piece lifting up and my windshield was lifting up. I eased up on the throtle and put my left hand up to hold the winshield in place when it broke free from my fairing. I was lucky and had a grip of it and pulled over without a miss hap. The one screw holding it solid to the fairing was off and inside my fairing. One screw was lost and the others where still screwed in but the windshield just pulled out since they are open ended slots. I was lucky, and I have never understood why Yamaha only made one connection for the windshield.
20. Ok, on a 2008 Venture, how much is involved in removing the fairing cover? I have seen the allen head bolts around the inside...do I have to remove the chrome trim on the front? The windshield? If so, how is that done? Thanks!
21. After installing my highway lights, the fuse got so hot after about 2 hours of riding that it literally melted the solder right off the caps. That cheap plastic fuse holder is total junk. I cracked the fairing open, re-routed the wires to the opening under the triple tree in the back of the inside fairing, replaced the stock fuse with a weatherproof mini AGM 10 amp fuse, and was able to tuck the whole thing under the tank where it is totally accessible without having to split the fairing again. What a pain, but it beats the alternative. That stock in-line plastic fuse holder and old style fuse just aren't designed to handle the current I guess. The new one is working fine, and doesn't get warm at all to the touch.
22. Im still working on a buddys 99 venture. Im trying to locate the fuse for the acc socket in the fairing. The book says lower right. have not been able to find it. Did they put that in the fairing?
23. I recently pulled the chrome trim off the fairing and found that the plastic around 4 of the 6 windshield mounting holes was cracked completely through. I emailed my dealer photos and he said to bring it in and they'll replace the fairing and anything else related to the problem. Off to the dealer tomorrow. Anyone else had this problem? Dennis
24. Had never heard of 'em, but found this at Fry's Electronics store, Fishers, Indiana (just outside Indianapolis). This one was open box resale, only $84.55 plus an extension cable for audio out to AUX connection in left fairing pocket. http://www.maylonggroup.com/ML-500_PND.htm I knew that mounting it would be a challenge, but I felt creative. The pics show what I did. Using "stuff" I already had to make the mount, and buying the spacer bushings and longer screws, plus the GPS, extension audio cable, and sales tax, I've got about $100 in the whole thing. 1) 1/8" X 1 1/2" strap metal, cut, shaped, drilled, painted. Some reflections make the paint look damaged. Used a pair of spacer bushings and longer screws, mounted it to the clutch lever clamp. 2) Part of the OEM mount installed. This is the piece that would normally fit onto the ball, making an adjustable ball and socket set-up. I modified it slightly so that I could tighten the nut on the back, holding it in place. 3) Front view of the same stage of assembly as number 2 4) Mounting bracket slides down onto the piece already mounted to the metal bracket and "clicks" into place. 5) GPS snapped into position, showing cable connections made. Top cable is audio out, lower cable is for power (12V from left fairing pocket). Lower connection is also for USB computer connection. There is also a micro SD slot in the left end. I ran the cables to the fairing pocket, routing them through the same opening as the headset connector cable (had to make a little more clearance). Lower left corner of the GPS shows a safety lanyard installed in case the GPS gets jolted out of the mount. I used an old camera wrist strap, drilled a small hole through the GPS molded frame. 6) Another view of the completed installation.

CB error

I noticed some old threads about this problem and although one post said checking the wires under the seat fixed the problem, is there any other issues anyone has come across? although I know one day I will need to crack the fairing, I am trying to put that off if I can, otherwise I will start under the seat. ANy other advic? Thanks
