  1. I just finished mounting and wiring my rear view camera and display today, and it works like a charm!! Now I can see the whole world behind me right up to my trunk!! With the type of driving Ido, which is a lot of interstates as well as main roads, I have my left and right mirrors adjusted the way they would be on a cage, with the right miror looking down the lane on my right, and the left mirror down the left lane. I have a pair of parabolic mirrors on each mirror which helps the view directly behind me but not as good as I like. Now with the camera and display I can see everything I want and need to see!! Glad I made Becky buy me this for my birthday last month...:wow:
  2. I talked to a rep at the Yamaha tent in sturgis, They had all their new yammies sitting out on display. I walked around a bit then went up and talked to a guy. He asked if i was interested in anything. I told him i was interested in the new 2011 venture. Because they didnt have one out on display. Not even a 2010. I said that I was a member on here and everybody wants to know what is coming. He basically told me "I feel your pain". He said Yamaha has a bike that sells the way it is, and that he doesnt know what they have coming down the pipe. and that he doesnt know whats coming. So I took that as another year of the same thing. He asked if i was interested in anything else. I said that if nothing changes soon I'll be interested in another brand......
  3. Hi, Perhaps I have gone blind but, I have looked in the various XVZ1x schematics I have and that are available here on VR.org and I am not finding info on how the dashboard gear indicator works. What I'd like to know is how does the indicator on the OEM dashboard know what gear the bike is in? What is the connection between whatever is sensing the gear in the transmission and the dashboard display? Ultimately, I'd like to know right down to wire colours and plug pin connections. I hope I am describing this clearly. Can anyone illuminate me on this, or point me to where it is shown in the schematics. Thanks, Brian H.
  4. Has my display turned green. Seems to me it was always a pale yellow or tan but last night It looked like its turned green. Anybody else seen this ?
  5. I'm in the process of purchasing a 2007 RSMV and the only thing that I'm really not liken is the speedometer display. Does anyone make a modern speedometer cover to replace the 1940ish styled one?
  6. K, got her buttoned up and started. Was warming her up to start the carb sync. I looked at the temp gauge and it was sitting at the bottom figuring she cant still be that cold. I saw the volt gauge was where it needed to be. I saw one bar on the fuel gauge and then it went to the fuel pump on the center display. Ok, figured it is getting low (prolly is). Anyway, as I glanced over to the Volt gauge, it was on the bottom. When I turn the key on, they both bump up a tad before dropping back down. Headlight, turn signals, brake & brake light, instrument light, center display and tach are working. I did replace the speedo and plate before I buttoned her back up. And I did the fuel tank thing to get a better reading on the fuel display. Ideas?
  7. Folks, I'm getting quiet a few PMS and emails asking when your memberships expire. Most of you can click on "UserCP" in the menu bar and then scroll down until you see "Paid Subscriptions" in the left menu. Click on that and it will tell you when your subscription expires. I THINK that only works for those of you who went through that link to pay. If you mailed your dues and I had to do it manually, I'm not sure it will display the dates. Those of you who got in close to the beginning of the process will be coming due primarily between the middle and end of April. Assuming that they system works correctly, you should get email notifications if you subscribed through that link. Renewals can be done at anytime you wish.
  8. I went to the Cycle World Motorcycle Show yesterday in Minneapolis. The Victory display was packed, everyone was lining up to sit on several different colored and accessorized Cross Countrys. Then I went over to the Star display and saw one 2010 stock black Venture up against the wall and no one looking at it. Not much of an attempt to interest people in a new Venture. They have the parts laying around to release Ventures in several colors every year. So why don't they? I loved the 2000 red one, the 2003 two tone red/sand, etc. Harley offers several colors in all thier models, what a shame.
  9. I have an intermittent miss that is driving me crazy. The symptoms: Driving down the road one day suddenly the speedo needle gos erratic and the bike misses like I hit the rev-limiter and the radio get louder. Speedo quit working runs fine. Speedo get erratic and bike misses for a second then fine. Happens more after it is warmed up than cold. I split the faring and checked all the connections. When I jacked up the back wheel an ran it (it only happens when running in gear) wiggling the wires to the display caused the speedo to go erratic so I unplug and test ride, no change same problem. New display is $800. Is the computer in the display? The computer for the speed sensor is my best guess right now. Any ideas welcome. Rose is pissed, her bike has been down and she is not nice when she does not get her bike rides. Rod
  10. http://harvestclassic.org/index.html Just wondering If anyone is going to go to this event in Luckenbach,Tx 10/23-24/2009 ? I went last year, not really a rally in my opinion but sure does bring back alot of memories seeing all the old motorcycles riding around and on display. I dont live far from there so I will be going to check out what bikes are there this year.
  11. Looking into LED's out back for the tail and brake light. Tried the simple fix with a 1157? and had the display tell me the light was out. Is there a simple fix for the non technical rider, other than live with the display????? Saddle_Bag:fingers-crossed-emo
  12. Every once in awhile my display would just go away. This was usually a short period, like when it was first started. Yesterday it went away along with my Tach, turn signals, and brake lights. When I first turn on the key it is there, but if I engage the front brake or lift the side stand then it is gone. I'm thinking ground wire somewhere, but where should I start? does the side stand have a ground on it? I am electically challenged also but do have a Fluke meter (and a very rudimentary understanding of how to use it). It would have to happen right when I am working full-time, going to school full time, and the inspection is due this month. HELP
  13. Hello Venture Riders. I need some help. I have looked in the service manual and cannot find the fix for this. I have a First Generation 1985 Venture Royale, 1200cc. My shift indicator only works in 4th and 5th gear. The display never drops below 4th gear. Is there an adjustment that I can do on this? If so where is it on the gear case or motor? Thanks in advance.
  14. Hi every one. We ride two up on a 07 Venture and my wife would like to have some arm rest, anyone have a resource? Also how do y'all get those maps that display the States you've traveled? Thanks for any help
  15. I M new here been reading about VR going to look at a 85 later today 40.000+ miles. A couple of ?'s Owner says bike has couple of issues right fork seal leaking. Runs a little ruff when you start warms up, smooths out after it warms up. He said it seems to have a little miss. also air system dose not seem to work display shoes no reading. Fairing has a issue at mounting location. needs to be cleaned up price.. $1.000.00. any quick info any one could give B4 I go look at it
  16. I installed a new sealed battery. It has no connection for the small wire was connected to the original battery. As result a battery icon shows up on the display. I assume there is nothing to worry about and just ingnore the icon. Any comments?
  17. My computer display is cutting out! Totally blank! After I had the pins re-soldered it has reset itself while riding a couple of times, but now I seem to have moved beyond that. It did come back on briefly after hitting a bump a couple of times but won't stay on which would seem to indicate a loose connection somewhere. 1. does the display have a separate power supply allowing everything to work without it showing? 2. should the bike run/start if the CPM quits/dies? 3. where would I start trying to figure this out? Thanks in advance!

  19. Today at the gas station I went to reset my trip gauge only to discover that the blasted thing wound not rotate to through the options. I pressed it several times and was eventually able to get the clock to display. I continued to press it several more times but it's locked on the clock. Has anyone seen this before. I have ~11000 miles on it.

  21. My problem is the brake light warning is displayed on my digital readout from time to time. The brakes are o.k. and I don't think they are the problem. Plenty of fluid in the reservoir. It will sometimes come on when I hit a rough spot in the road or when my speedo starts roaring like the old 1st gens do from time to time. Then sometimes it will not display for serveral miles. Has anyone had this problem? I'm leaning toward a poor electrical connection. Any ideas? Ronnie

  25. I found this to be pretty interesting.... helmet with military style lcd display..."the idea is based on "Head Up Display" systems used by fighter pilots..." http://edition.cnn.com/2004/TECH/09/16/piers.tucker/index.html Some of you may have seen it already as it was posted in 2004 on cnn. Funny thing is the article claims within five years (in 2009) the helmet should be accessible to us common folk. I wonder if progress has been made on this?
