  1. I have been thinking about buying a Venture or Wing and selling my 2005 RSTD. I thought I would throw this out there in case someone with a Venture might have thought he might rather have a Tour Deluxe. I would like to find one at least as new as mine in excellent condition. I would expect to pay the difference in value of course.
  2. Put the scoot through her paces this morning with my RLAP routine....That clutch job that kbran did this week really makes the difference!!! Boomer.....who had the pygmies in the parking lot climbing the light poles.
  3. Did a bit of work on my bike this weekend. Installed the Diamond R leveling links. Have to say this was the easiest mod I have ever done. When I removed the old and compared them to the new, thought there must have been a mistake because there isn't much difference between the two. Until you drive it. Kinda crazy how a 1/4" difference makes the front end seem so much lighter. And now I can look over the windshield no problem. And I didn't even have to remove any thing to change them out. Did a carb sync and once again am amazed at how simple and quick it is to do. A shame that the dealer charges anything for this. This would be a procedure that they could do as a courtesy, not lose much on it and build a ton of good will. Did a clutch fluid change, the old was getting a bit dark, so chaned it out and got a bit more lever out of the clutch and not as big a thunk going into gear. Good times working on the bike. As soon as my HID headlight gets here I'll have something else to work on.
  4. SO, have been shopping and in Canada, the dealers what a TON of $$$'s for these. Any suggestion on an online US place to buy and ship from? Is there a difference from the Yamaha Genuine accessory to the aftermarket knock-offs? Any help would be great. Need to complete the "chrome treatments" of the '05. Thanks
  5. Well my 2001 has a bit of a whine. Not to bad but enough to let you know it's there. About 60 in 4th. Seems to be worse with a little acceleration. When the engine is not under pressure it is quite. It kinda forces me into 5th earlier than I want but my Venture seems to do fine in 5th at about 45. I just don't accelerate very hard or I down shift and put up with the whine. I read all the post about Motorkote and thought I would give it a try. I had a oil leak from a bad gasket in the middle gear so I replaced it. I topped off the oil (which had about 1500 miles on it) with 7 oz of Motorkote. I can not tell any difference in the intensity or the frequency (RPM's) of the whine. The engine does seem to be running smoother and it sifts easier but no difference in the whine. My next oil change I will switch to synthetic motor oil and put about 8 more oz of Motorkote. Hopefully the clean oil and fresh Motorkote will do the trick. I did run the bike pretty hard to test the Motorkote to make sure it did not cause my clutch to slip since Motorkote is a friction modifier and no slipping.
  6. Installed fishtail mufflers couple of days ago and just got the clamps. These mufflers are a lot lighter than stock and just wondered if I needed to make brackets or just go as is? They feel rigid with no play and the clamps really tightened down well. As a side note, I've never complained about the "whine", but after installing them the whine is very noticeable. Hard to believe that the mufflers would effect the whine, but I haven't put the saddlebags back on and that may make the difference. Anyone notice the whine getting worse when changing mufflers? I am definitely keeping my stock mufflers just in case, but I'm no longer hesitant to pull along side a Harley at a light. Of course they can hear them well from the rear when we're rolling.
  7. All I can say is WOW! Rick worked over the driver and passenger seats for me a while back and I just now had a chance to get the bike out and the difference is awesome. My wife and I rode about 150 miles today and we both could tell a lot of difference. I am leaving on a 2,500 mile trip in a couple of weeks and this seat modification is going to make it much more enjoyable. Also, his turnaround time is second to none. It was just one week from the time I sent to seats to Rick until I had them back on my front porch. Thanks Rick, you do nice work.
  8. Thinking bout buying K&N filters for my 08 RSV and wondering if anyone could tell me if they really raise the HP or make it feel like its breathing better? I put one on a V-8 Dodge Dakota and could not tell any difference. Also, where would be a good place to buy them? Thought I would tap the vast knowledge pool that we have here for answers. Thanks, Glenn
  9. Is there any difference between 1999 to 2010 except for the colours?
  10. hi guys, I installed leveling links on my buddy's bike (I have a lot of friends who happen to ride RSV lol) his bike is a silver 2005 and it sits a lot lower than my 2006 and my other buddy's 2008 RSV. Even after installing the leveling links, it is much lower. I have 30" inseams and keep my rear shock at around 40 psi and when straddling the bike I'm on my balls of my feet, heels are off the floor. But on his bike, I'm flat footed on the floor. I have the Butler seat on mine and all 3 bikes are stock as far as suspension goes.. but the silver bike is that much lower.. Any ideas what might cause that? We tried measuring diff parts of the bike to see where the height difference was and we find that the trunk, read fender bottom, top of tank, top of front fender all have difference measurements.. So odd.
  11. Checked out the Star web sight . There are 2 passing lamps and brackets listed. There is about $30 difference but the description is the same. What is the difference just working on my wish list.
  12. Today's special on Amazon is the Nuvi 785T for $199. Does anyone know the difference between this model and the 765T that several of you already have? There are just too many models out there to figure out the difference!!!
  13. Any difference in the mufflers on an 03 RSV and a 07 RSV?
  14. For those of you that have replaced your tall(OEM) windshield with a shorter one, have you noticed any difference in the way the bike handles? By that I mean, does it reduce the buffeting effect? Can you tell a difference at high speed(in excess of 80 mph)? What type did you get to replace the OEM? Just your general thoughts. I'd like to know because I'm thinking of replacing mine in the near future.
  15. So I was looking at another picture of a RSV and my CB antenna is on the opposite side of the picture of another RSV. Which is right? I know my radio picks up good but me CB does not. At least not as good as I thought it should. Mine is an 03 and the other picture is an 09 would that make a difference? Thanks

    What a DAY!

The weather was great today and I took the Second Gen out for a couple hours for a ride. Then I took the First Gen out for a short ride. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! It was like night and day....
  17. I installed the Road King pipes on my 06 RSTD about a month ago. Like many others, I quickly realized they didn't make much of a difference in the sound level. So I did the first modification of drilling the four holes in the forward baffle plates. That did make a bit of a difference and they do sound quite nice at idle or when I wind her up. But they still aren't quite loud enough for me. I have been debating about drilling out the rear baffle plate with the hole saw (mod # 2), but realize that if I do and my neighbours start circulating petitions up and down our street my only option will be to go back to the OEM pipes and start searching on ebay again. What can I say, I'm a considerate person. I would like to hear from anyone who has gone from the first mod to the second mod to get an idea if this makes a significant difference in the sound level while the bike is warming up at idle in your driveway, and if the noise level is high enough to become irritating on long trips before I start cutting.
  18. Should I pay the local Harley dealer 75 bucks for a new set of R/K takeoff mufflers? I don't know if the difference in sound would justify the price of the muffs. Art
  19. I have seen this many times and I've been on the Yamaha site trying to figure it out and cannot seem to find it so I'm just going to ask. What is the difference between the "Royal Star Venture" and the "Royal Star Venture S"?
  20. When I look up parts and stuff online, I see two models listed- VENTURE ROYALE - XVZ1300DT - 1987 or VENTURE ROYALE - XVZ1300DTC - 1987 What is the difference? Thanks
  21. I usually buy Valvoline 20/50 4 stroke mc oil @ my local oil and lube place. He was out of 20/50. He said that the Valvoline oil reps told him that there was no difference between 20/50 conventional and mc 20/50 and that valvoline was discontinuing mc oil. That the only difference was the label. He said that the synthetics were going to follow suit because there is no difference other than the label. I find all of this hard to believe. I tried to go onto the valvoline websight, but it is temporarily down for maintenance. They probably put conventional computer oil into there 4 cycle system lol! If anyone can shed some light on this dilemma please feel free. This world is becoming twilight Zoney! do do do do do do do do.
  22. If I asked this before on here, I guess I'm losing more than my hearing. I know I wanted to ask before. I did at least search my prior posts and found no entry for this so, here we go: I have a black Pace-Legacy lo-boy style enclosed motorcycle trailer. It's only about 3 years old but sitting outside down here in the sun & heat, the finish has developed that slightly cloudy, faded sort of look. That loss of a clean, deep black finish. It's not at all severe, but it is noticable. I've tried any number of different things to try to bring the depth of color back and failed. I'm almost positive that it's baked enamel and I'm frankly at a loss as to what to use. So, if any of you have any experience with this issue, I sure would like to hear your solution. I coming up blank. I've hesitated on removing the Harley-Davidson decal on the back door until I can come with a satisfactory fix for the finish, because I know there's going to be a difference in shade when the decal comes off and I want to be able to minimize it. Anyway, any help will be welcome. If I can't do anything with the finish (or maybe even if I can), I might just sell the darn thing. I haven't used it but a couple of times and the original reason I got it went away when my son got rid of his bike. That'll be a topic for another thread if I go that way with it.
  23. Forget it it I just cross referenced it with the Dunlop website and put 2+2 together and realized it was the difference between WWW and BWs.... the 2 pics of BW tires threw me...
  24. Well its been 2 weeks since surgery. Went to doc yesterday and got those 23 stinking staples out:rotf: Boy did that make a difference in the surface pain. Have been doing 6 exercises a day and was up to 20 reps each. Doc says 3 more weeks of no wieght bearing on left side. He took xrays and all looks very good. Said what he did should last 30 yrs and that I had very strong and solid bone. Theripist came today and added 3 more exercises:crying: she tried to make me touch the ceiling with my toes or at least it felt that way:crying: leg lifts are the killer. But to be honest the pain is minimal. My hip seemed to hurt alot more before surgery. But could be the pain meds keeping it in check. They took me off the oxycodone and put me on hydrocodone which isnt as strong and I have noticed no difference. Im feeling pretty good just a little cabin fever is all. Should be moving around pretty good by the time the rally starts:banana: John
