  1. Just a quick note and it's off to bed for me. Walked in the door at 1110 pm 17 hours after we left Gene and Becky's. Todays jaunt was about 940 miles we must be stupid or Masochists....maybe both Again thank you all for showing up, what a great weekend! We really didn't want to come back north, we have good friends here, but it's 31 degrees right now I'll come on during the week and get my babbling back up to speed. Thanks again for all the hospitality and it was great to see everyone and make some new friends...Y'all be safe
  2. As the temps dip down into the 30's at night here in the Carolinas, I was wondering what is the coldest temp that you've ridden in? With my normal gear on, which is basically a leather jacket and leather gloves, I decide that yesterdays 40 degrees was a bit too cold - but I was pretty good this morning at 46 degrees.
  3. I went to the Fayetteville, AR rally this weekend and found my temp guage reading about 1/8" from the RED zone while at an idle. A little too close for comfort, in my openion. The outside temperature was about 82 degrees. I would like to see it stay about half way into the GREEN. Am I asking for too much?
  4. I'm trying to locate the boundary lines of a certain plot containing .008 acres of land. What I would like to see is a land plot drawing of the following. The reference is West Virginia Plane Coordinate System South Zone. 1. Beginning at a corner South 30 degrees 03' East 25 feet. 2. South 08 degrees 04' West 128 ft to the intersection of new right of way 3. South 86 degrees 24' West 15 feet 4. North 38 degrees 17' West 18 feet to a corner 5. North 12 degrees 45' East 140 feet to place of beginning. Is this a 4 or 5 sided land tract. I would love to have a software program that would draw a scale model of this plot. This is a piece the Government purchased to modify a section of road years ago. I have located a metal stake which is one of the boundaries in this section but can not locate the other boundary markers to see if any of this crosses what I believe to be my lot.Is it possible to follow this with a compass? Not ready to pay $$$ yet for survey.
  5. It's 8:20 in the evening... 93 degrees and 6% humidity! What's it like where you are??
  6. up on Mt Mitchell, NC. I took a ride up there to get away from the 95 degree temperature down here in the valley and it was the hottest I have seen it up there. It would normally be in the mid 60's there this time of year. In fact, I was up there Memorial Day weekend and it was 57 degrees. I had a nice lunch at the park restaurant and took a picture from my seat looking down the mountain. RandyA
  7. Well we did it again,we went for a ride today,Debbys first since October(Surgery),Found a great place for a Meet ,BBQ and swim sometime. It was a HOT day,93 degrees but the wind was blowing and made it a little cool feeling. Here is a few pictures of the place. Tom

  9. 15 degrees out but I HAD to go. Hadnt been out in almost 3 weeks!
  10. Had to go to the store this morning and decided to drive the wife's SUV. It was pretty dirty so I decided to run it through the automatic car wash. Should have been OK but the dryers were apparently not working very well so by the time I got home, I had a heck of a time getting out of the car. 4 degrees F right now and it sure doesn't take long for the doors on a car to freeze shut.
  11. 7 inches of snow at 7 degrees. Ice jams in the creek last week. Now there calling for 70 degrees Mon and Tues then snow again next weekend. Anyway it was a BEAUTIFUL day..70 degrees not a cloud in the sky,no wind, very sunny.. took off 45 degrees then 70 by noon,,,,NO WHERE BUT TEXAS for December weather!

    Gotta Love Texas

Went to my club meeting to night and was able to make the ride home in short sleeves. 65 degrees on 19 december got to love it !!!!!!!!
  14. OK so I live beside a creek. My scoots are stored in a open shed enviroment. Today was 65 degrees and the engines were covered with heavy condensation. I don't think the water would bead heavier on the blocks if I sprayed them with a hose. This occurs quiet often in the winter and the scoots are harder to start when wet. The 84 failed to start this evening and thats a first at 65 degrees. I normally let the scoots idle for 15 - 20 minutes starting about every two weeks. I'm thinking this condensation is not good for the motor. Does the moisture also form inside the engine? What about the carbs and fuel tank? I have a mixture of seafoam in the fuel but this may help. I guess I should cover the scoots even in the shed.Rust a little every year because of this.
  15. This past summer I noticed on several ocassions that my temps were going up a little quicker than in the past when it was hot. A couple of years ago I did the bikini side panel mod and it seems to have helped in keeping the bike cool. This was even the case when I was pulling a 450 pound camper. Wednesday I took the bike to work with the morning temp being about 40 degrees to be able to ride home home with it 70 degrees. In my morning ride the temp gage never got off the bottom. Normally it would still go up to about 1/3 on the gauge for that distance. Well, I finally got down under the bike and discovered that when I pulled the engine to replace the gearset, I must not have set the bypass to the correct position. It normally has the top of the lettering pointing toward the five oclock position. I was 180 degrees off. I rotated it around and took a short ride and the temp gage went up to about 1/3. It is easy to understand the temp staying low during cold weather, but I suspect that the getting warmer quicker during hot weather was due to the coolant going thru the radiator too quick to cool adaquate. 16. I love my Venture......everything but the high windshield. I am looking for advice from anyone who has cut their windshield down, and the results that are obtained. The windshield is simply too high in my opinion, and although I do not ride in the rain, I do get caught in the rain until I can find a bridge or store or whatever and get out of it, and rain on that windshield is bad news, it is called instant danger. It is too tall to look over it, so you have to look to one side. Also it seems to block the airflow and in the summer in South Carolina, 99 degrees up to 105 degrees, it is hot behind that windshield, let me tell you. I have already decided to cut it down, but was hoping for advice from someone who has done this and knows the result. How does it effect helmet buffeting, what happens when the big semi goes by, all that stuff, I already know as high as it poses a life threatening situation if one is caught in the rain and tries to get somewhere......so the windshield has got to go down some. So anyone been through this? Is it the wrong thing to do? Does it unbalance the front end? Just might be the folks who designed it like this did so for a reason? Kit
  17. I just happened to see this on Ebay. I wonder if it would work on the First Gen Ventures. If so, it looks like a good solution to those who have a problem with the temps running near the read before the fans come on. This one turns on the fans 20 degrees sooner. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-V-max-Cooling-Fan-Switch-Vmax_W0QQitemZ190130673497QQihZ009QQcategoryZ35580QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
