  1. OK folks, due to continuing issues with our classifieds section, I am going to see how it works by doing away with the separate classifieds area and creating forum areas for our classifieds. I have already created the new forums and you'll see them if you scroll down on the home page of the forum. There are positives and negatives to moving them to the forum. Positives: Possibly more exposure for the ads. Better integration with the forum software. Will put an end to headaches that the present system is causing me with ads mysteriously going away, being marked sold, etc. Negatives: No integrated "buy now" button. PayPal and/or payment info will have to be worked out through contact with the seller. No option to "renew" an ad. They are set to expire in 60 days and then if your item hasn't sold, you will just have to replace your ad. No "miles from me" indication but most complained that the feature didn't work anyway. So, we'll see how it works out and go from there. I will leave the current classifieds open for a few days. If you have items or an item for sale in the classifieds, please take the time to add it to the new area as your existing add will be gone in a few days.
  2. I,m thinking of takeing the clear wings off below the fairing or are they needed to protect the forks.. I thought they might let the air flow a little better on the hot days Ron
  3. Well returned to Doc today 11 days after surgery. He said Im healing well removed my staples and come back in a week. Still no riding or driving yet, no heavy lifting and he said to walk as much as possible.. Im feeling alot better the last few days so another week I should be doing really well. John
  4. I've had a breaker bar for many years now. It broke some time back, but nobody in my area sells Thorsen tool anymore. They have a lifetime guarantee but it does me no good if there is nobody to go to to get it replaced. Does anybody here know who sells them these days or who used to sell them? Even if I can find out who used to sell them they will usually give me their new brand as a replacement. For some reason I thought it was Farm & Fleet. Thanks, Bill
  5. STAR Touring annual STAR Days is in Madison, WI next week. Just wondering who from VR forums is going. Three of us from SC STAR chapters are going, headed out Saturday. About 1000 miles each way. If it ain't RAINING, we will HEAD up through Clemson, Hwy 28 to the Dragon, spend the night north of there. Sunday morning, more mountain roads through TN to Louisville. On through Indy, to around Champaign, IL for the night, then to Madison Monday AM. Doing straight interstate back on the following Fri-Sat. I did see a post in a post saying they were going. Anyhow, anyone else going? And, hey, even if you aren't a member, swing by to see what's happening, including vendors. Hey Wanderer, yep, I'm taking the Venture-Dream. Mike G in SC
  6. Saturday morning we head out of Utah on the way to STAR Days in Middleton, WI. Our route should take us out on I-80 across Wyoming and in to Nebraska. The first night, we will stay in Sidney, NB and the second night we will stay in Clive, IA. I expect that this stretch will be more of an endurance ride than a pleasure cruise. My question is, does anyone know of any "can't miss" sights along our way to Middleton? I'm pretty sure that it's just prairies and fields of corn, right? On the way back, we're going out on I-90 across Iowa and South Dakota, and then down through Wyoming. I don't expect that there is much to see in Iowa or until we get to the Black Hills area is there? I just don't like to miss seeing the fun stuff along the way. Anyone else here going to STAR Days? I understand that it probably conflicts with the Cody Rally, but maybe we can go to that next year. Thanks guys! Be Safe! Pete.
  7. than sorry. Just in case anyone going to Cody in a couple of weeks but has been trapped under a rock for the past few days or does not listen to the national news. http://www.charter.net/news/read.php?ps=1011&rip_id=%3CD9OAG2D00%40news.ap.org%3E&news_id=17094067&src=most_popular_viewed Just stay alert while in Yellowstone.....
  8. Went for my last ride for about 3 months today. Went down to Mountain Home AR. to hospital for pre-op tests. Thurs morning I will be going in for what is considered a very delicate operation. According to My Doc is more serious than open heart surgury. http://www.health.com/health/library/mdp/0,,zm2720,00.html I will be in the hospital about 5 days, no wi-fi so see you all when I get home. John

Some days you are the windshield, some days you are the bug!!! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/03/motorcyclist-dies-helmet-protest_n_889427.html?&ncid=edlinkusaolp00000009
  11. 24 DAYS TO GO - CAN WE LEAVE YET? Exciting times and travel are just a few days away. You won't want to miss this - and for those pre-registered, really look forward to meeting you all in Cody. If you haven't registered and are considering attending, please contact me ASAP via PM - or better via my e-mail victortibbs@comcast.net . I will be placing the t-shirt order this weekend so they are ready in time for the rally, we will have couple of extra shirts (operative word couple) - at the rally, if we ran out I am sure we could get some more made up. If you still aren't sure you can make it, and find out at the last minute you can, please come - we can accomodate everyone!!!! Let the good times roll!!!!!!!
  12. my youngest son went down tonight on a CBR, pretty bad road rash on both hands and one arm, thankfully he went into the grass soon after hitting the asphalt, gonna be real sore for a few days, but thankfully the Big Guy was watching over him... he could use some prayers if ya`ll have the feeling to do so.. Thanks,
  13. I took off on my RSTD to the Smoky Mountains for a week of riding. This was the first extended (multi day) trip for the RSTD. I quickly discovered a few things I need to upgrade/change on the bike, such as: Seat - my seat is too small (or my butt is too big). My seat is not long enough front to back. It became VERY uncomfortable after 250+ miles but after 600+ miles in a single day. I began to wonder if I would ever be able to sit again. At 600+ miles even the seat beads were non-effective. Thus far my search for a larger (longer) seat has been unproductive. I can find wider seats but not longer ones. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Lighting - I need more lighting on the rear of the bike!! In the mountains with early morning fog (thick as pea soup), on a couple of occasions the folks behind me could not see me until they were just feet away. I'm thinking a set of Hyperlites may adequately address this issue. Rider awareness - When riding the "Dragon" double yellow lines and curvers don't matter to some, so be prepared to be passed on the left and RIGHT by other bikers. Obviously the group I was with were not sport bike riders but we were not poking along either. Some guy blows by us passing on the left and right. Glad he was fast because if I could have got my hands on him, well I'd be in the pokey writing this. Preparation - In six days of riding we encounted heavy rains on three of the days. It goes without saying good rain gear is a must! We found chartreuse colored gear was noticably more visible than any other color.
  14. wan·der·lust   [won-der-luhst] –noun a strong, innate desire to rove or travel about. We have been home from our ~6700 mile cross-country ride for 1 full week now... and I have already been looking at maps for a couple of days trying to figure out "where next". If there is a halfway house for this kind of thing... maybe I will wave as I go by.
  15. Sorry it took so long to get these posted but here are some more pics of MD. http://s1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd441/jon57es/
  16. just wanted to say thank you for the radiator it got here today. i had a friend test my old one and sure enough the upper core where the cap goes on has a small split in it that was makeing it run across the top and down the other side makeing me think it was leaking on that side. yours my friend looks like a brand new one. and you included the fan and the cap. now how is that for a great man? i wont be installing this for a few days my bike is up in a storage shead and the temp around here the next few days is going to hit the hight 90,s with heat index in the 105 range so im not going into a metal storage shead to work in that kind of temp. but i will keep ya posted on when i get it done.
  17. Elyria, Oh.. Storm hit 3 miles or so from home, wrecked things pretty good. I maybe grounded when I get home, went to FL. in jan. for 14 days, she got 8 days of snow while I was gone, now a tornado I'm under house arrest for sure when I get home. Rain and wind at my house, more to come.
  18. Have been feeling a little powerless to say the least for the last couple of weeks and I finally was so weak that I had our secretary fly me home from Norway a.s.a.p so I could be checked out by my doctor. I was situated very remote in Norway and getting to a hospital with all the right equipment was a complicated thing. To put a long story short he immediately made arrangements for a coronary catheterization and the operation was performed yesterday. There was a blockage at the end of one of the artery branches that caused my lack of power and my doctor inserted a stent in the artery to keep it open. WOW,,,I have color in my face again Feel like a champ and was lucky that this came up before my trip to the USA but I am coming in 10 days. Have the doctors permission to go - he just told me to take shorter riding days if I felt tired. So I thank God for watching over me and healing me before my trip. Just wanted to share this with you all Friendly regards from Iceland, Jonas / StarFan
  19. Well it is getting close enough for me to start watching the long range weather horrorcasts. The last 6 days of the 10 day horrorcast is for what would be near perfect weather. Not that I actually believe the weather people...........but it does give me something to look at. Think Freebird can string on another 3 good days onto the end of the week?
  20. Looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack. Would like a hitch assembly for our 1986 Venture. There is one on e-bay right now. Has 6 days to go. Also priced the Hitchdoc unit at $261.00. Thought I had one located but it went bye-bye. JB
  21. Imagine that you have been living in a house for 20 to 25 years...and all of a sudden...someone is knocking on your door saying there will be 25 feet of water here in a few days...get out and get out now. Can you imagine trying to get everything you own out of the house and to higher ground in just a few days? That is what these people here in South Lousiana are having to do. Uhaul trailers and trucks are hard to find... Folks are using what ever they can to move thier stuff out or loose it. I have seen photos of folks hauling riding lawn mowers in john boats. Not only the folks in south LA...we need to think of all that have been effected by the Mississippi River flooding all the way up. They have no choice but go... We all need to keep these folks in our thoughts and prayers.
  22. In order to keep the auction thread where everyone can see it and not have to hunt for it, you can now find it in the sticky section at the top of the page. You can access the auctions from there. Thanks to everyone who has bidded and will bid. As soon as these auctions end I will be putting more up, there are plenty of items left, and I will shorten the time span as I think 15 days is a little long, so they will be 7 days long in the future. Thanks again, and dont forget to check out Squidley's "Weighing In For St. Jude"................ The time has come to start the auction for the St. Jude, hats, t-shirts, pins, and license plate holders. These listings will last for 15 days. High bidder at the end of the auction will win their item. I have many more of these items to post up for auction, so dont dispair if you dont win this one, there will be other put up as soon as these are over. I have attached pics here of all the items.....the pin is identical to the logo on the t-shirt (I could not get a good closeup of the pin, that is the reason it looks like the tshirt.) You can follow this link right to the auction items.....Happy Bidding......... St. Jude Auctions
  23. I've read up on a couple of threads on Cold Blooded for after my VR sat for 5 days it had a very tough time starting and to keep running and getting warmed up. It must have taken 5 minutes or more for the temp gage to just start moving up. I did not ride it but let it warm up to normal operating temp. Now this morning about 24 hours later my VR started right up and in about 1 minute I could put the choke off. So what would make the difference between 1 day sitting and 5 days sitting? I'm in the Seattle area and even tho we are almost in May, It hailed in Buckley yesterday, so it was quite cold last night around 37 degrees. Just wondering being that I'm trying to get a feel as to how often I should start the VR up being that I'm not a daily rider or even a weekly rider being that I work 26 days on and 2 days off. At this time I'll probably at least start the VR up once a week. I'm not trying to be too pickey but I thought that 5 days without running it should start right up.
  24. So we ordered a helmet from http://www.bikersden.com on the 18th. We've been trying to find a helmet that will fit my egg head. We went with them cause it was supposed to be in stock and they had a good return policy. The website said 1-3 days shipping. On the 3rd day we noticed the order said processed and we still didn't have a tracking #. We emailed and they said orders can take up to 4 days to process and that when it did we would get a tracking #. If we log in from work it shows my name on the order, if we log in at home it doesn't show the order at all. Today after no word I decided to call and was told there was an attempted delivery today. If we had known the damn thing was coming we would have been around to get it. Irritates me that companies have all of this tech at their disposal and still manage to screw it up. We don't care about the timing, we care about not having the info promised. We ordered headsets from http://www.wingstuff.com the following day as well as eBay items that have all arrived. I think they are actually doing drop shipping, which again is fine. Just TELL the customer what is going on. Full review pending on the helmet if it fits! Frank
  25. Okay I know this exist but can't seem to find it. My better half and I are taking two long trips this year. Both are approx 2000 miles each way. We plan to break it up into 3 days then 2 weeks of riding the 3 days back and 1 to recoup before going back to work. Not that any of that has anything to do with my question but I am getting very excited about the trips. My question is this: I have a Garmin (older one) 2730, and a Nuvi. Is there a program that besides gives routing but will accept input as to how far to space fuel stops and suggest stations around that area. IE I will want to refuel every 225 - 250 miles. (I have a 27 gallon tank but only get about 11-12 mpg when towing the bikes. (sucks) So my range is a bit over 300 miles per tank but don't want to push it.I can find the info with Mapquest but it is a real pain. Is there a better way?
