  1. Decided to take a trip while my daughter was in Camp. We are going to leave the 11th ride to Aiken then along the lakes check out a couple of the falls and stay overnight in Greenwood SC. Day 2 Cherohala skyway to the Dragon staying overnight in Alcoa TN. Day 3 on to Gatlinburg down to Cherokee and Staying overnight in Greenville SC. Day 4 onto the the house. I based my stops on where I can stay for free http://rideplanner.harley-davidson.com/rideplanner/share/478931 Anyone want to tag along or would like to meet up for lunch of dinner let me know.
  2. Eileen want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you who came to Maintenance Day this year. We love doing this and our reward is seeing everybody having a nice time. That is all it is about. It was great spending time with old friends and familiar faces and always great meeting new people. As usual, you were all a class act. The numbers were down a bit this year but we still had a fantastic crowd. I think I made a mistake this year when I moved it forward by a week. A lot of folks had graduations and etc. to attend. We were not at all disappointed in the turnout but there were some of our regulars that we truly missed. I will try next year to move it to the middle of June again. A special thanks to all who jumped in and helped with the Maintenance activities. I simply could not do this without your help. I know that Skydoc truly missed having V7Goose around as well as Squidley and a couple others who usually jump in and help. Also, a special thanks to all the ladies who help Eileen get the food arranged and served and maintaining some sense of order to things. It was another successful weekend that Eileen and I both agree went by way too quick. We are already looking forward to next year. Well, at least we will be after a good nights sleep.
  3. OK, those of you who have been to my Maintenance Day are fairly familiar with all of this but for those who haven't been before, here is a bit of info for you. 1. There is a Super Walmart and an Autozone about 3 miles from my house. Handy for any miscellaneous items that you need to pick up but if you need any specific motorcycle related parts, you probably should bring them with you. 2. I have a decent assortment of tools, a couple of air compressors, oil drain pans and etc. I also have a couple of bike lifts handy. If you want to bring some tools though, it is not a bad idea. 3. I have a lunch catered on Saturday. Usually around 12:00 to 1:00. It costs me quite a bit of money to do this so there is always a donation can out for you to help if you can. It is NOT mandatory. I would not want anybody to not come or not eat because their money is tight. If you can help, that is great. Nobody is watching to see who donates and who doesn't though. 4. There will be a portable toilet available. There are no hard and fast rules but it is asked that the men use the portable toilet and let the ladies use the bathrooms in the house. 5. We will have a few prizes to raffle off. Not a lot but a few items. Eusa has generously donated another set of his diamond cut Second Gen engine fins. Baggershield has agreed to donate one of their windshields. It hasn't gotten here yet but hopefully it will this week. I have new set of speakers that should work in a first or second gen. Eileen has picked up a few items for the ladies. Maybe a few other odds and ends. Tickets usually sell for $1.00 each. 6. There will be tickets available for the trailer raffle at the International Rally in N.Y. Will be a great time to pick up some tickets if you haven't already done so. Registration for the International will also be available. 7. This is a true maintenance day. We will start tinkering with the bikes whenever people are up and about on Saturday morning. Please don't come and expect others to do everything for you. There are some great folks around to help you out but not DO for you. Be prepared to get your hands dirty if you want something done to your bike. 8. We sometimes try to take a little ride on Saturday evening so normally try to wrap up the bike work no later than 4:00. The ride sometimes doesn't happen because people are often exhausted and just want to chill out in the evening. So if you don't want to go on a ride, please don't feel obligated to do so. 9. The Saturday lunch is the only meal provided. You are on your own for breakfast and probably dinner. There are usually some leftovers from lunch though if you want another snack later in the day. If you come in on Friday, we will be riding over to Quaker Steak and Lube for dinner. 10. We will have a great pinstriper available on Friday. I'm not sure if he will be here on Saturday or not but he is usually around both days. 11. We do have a hot tub and you are more than welcome to use it BUT....swimsuits are mandatory...I mean...at least for the men. 12. There is a combination gas/charcoal grill on the back deck. You are welcome to use it. 13. I always have a big urn of coffee set up in the garage. If you are the first one up and about, please turn it on. It will be ready to go. I'm sure that I'm missing something and those who have attended before are welcome to add to this. 14. Bring your own TP,,at least 2 rolls,,,,,, now who would have stuck that comment in here? Eileen and I love doing this and are looking forward to seeing all our old friends and making some new ones.
  4. I will apologize right up front for anybody that I miss so please add to this list if you know of one that I've forgotten about. I want to thank those who donated prizes for our raffle at Maintenance Day though. You are all very much appreciated. Eusa1 - Diamond cut engine fins Baggershield - Adjustable windshield Carbon_One - Trailer Hitch Bob Myers - Delrin engine mounts Aussie Annie - Australian souvenirs Dingy - Sunglasses That crazy Stardbog even gave away two of his Heineken's. NOT a small thing to HIM. I want to thank my wife for picking up some small items for the ladies gift bags. I also threw in a VentureRider coffee mug, a VentureRider cap and some speakers to help sweeten the pot a bit. I know it wasn't much but I hope you all enjoy them. I KNOW that I'm missing somebody. Please let me know.
  5. A great day of riding on Saturday capped with a bag lunch on the Blue Ridge Parkway, a total of 360 miles logged and even bumped into a fellow Vr'er along the way (tip of the helmet to ya, yamaduck!). Follow all that up with a night of good old dirt track racing and a day of rest to recover, does life get any better than that? I think not but I am pretty confident there are some out here that can try.
  6. Happy Birthday Vickie hope you have an outstanding day
  7. OK folks, it's only a few weeks until my annual Maintenance Day. Only 85 people have signed up on the calendar at this point. Eileen is on me now to try and get a better count so that she can start ordering food and etc. So if you haven't RSVP yet then PLEASE do so. There are 36 "maybes"...please go to the calendar and update your status as soon as you know. Thanks. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=290&day=2012-6-2&c=1

  11. As I do every Memorial Day on this site, I want to Thank some folks. I want to say Thank You to my Grandfathers, who served in the battle fields of WWII, 1 who was a medic, and one who delivered the supplies to the front lines. Thank You, to all the brothers and sisters I served with while I helped protect this country for 6 1/2 years. Thank You to likes of Boomer, Gunboat, Master Guns, Buddy Rich and Monty, and all the others here on this website who sacrificed some or all of their lives protecting this country. Thank You to all the modern day Warriors, who protect us as I type this. This is the most hallowed day to me, I take Memorial Day very seriously, this is the 1 day that after I left the service that I will NOT work on. Even though other countries honor their veterans on different days, I am honored to remember all the Canadians, Brits, Aussies, and all the other countries who have fought beside us in the worlds conflicts on our Memorial Day. God Bless all of you My Friends....
  12. Just wanted to let you all know that I will have 4 sets of Mic-Mutes available at Maintenance Day. Bill won't be able to make it this year but has mailed me 4 sets for the RSV if any of you need one. The price is $139.95 so you can be prepared. It is a great product.
  13. I will be riding two up from Charlotte to Maintenance Day. We plan on leaving just south of Charlotte NC at about 6am. We will be going straight up I77 most of the way. If anyone would like to ride with us all or part of the way drop me a PM and we will see if we can set it up.
  14. I stopped down in Missouri the other day and dropped into see my x bro-in-law. Been a long time since we have had a chance to sit down and visit. We used to get together a lot and could spend all night swapping guitars and BSing. He was a hell of a picker and he was a huge fan of the Gretsch line. He owns a White Falcon and a Country Gent and a couple other tucked way I can't remember the names of. For those of you familiar with those guitars you know the sound. It's all its own. I can't remember how many times I would just stop playing and let him roll on by himself. I'd leave the deck running and record him. He never belived it was him when he heard the tapes play back. But he was saying there was the Gretsch Roundup down in KC. It's kind of a massive jam session for the Gretsch bunch. Bring your guitar and jump on in. He had been thinking about going but didn't feel up to it. I razzed him about getting out and do something for himself for a day and just go. I left him with a little jazzin' about slacking off and hoped he went. So today I came home and found an e-mail from him. He went. He was a bit wired as not only did he go but had some good news. Part of his e-mail: Last but not least.........................I won the Grand Prize for the night. A brand new Gretsch Electromatic. This guitar was just built, shipped from the factory to Gretsch Corporate, photographed for the upcoming new Gretsch catalog, and shipped to KC for the Roundup. It's a new model, white 16" body, double cut, large "f" holes, and a pair of Electromatic Filters..... and a Bigsby with all gold hardware These aren't getting to the streets until July, and haven't even been released or announced to the public yet. Last night was the unveiling of this new line. Now get this *&^%....................the last 3 digits of the s/n are "000". I just about crapped myself Mike. Winning something like this was just crazy, but to also have the "000" is pretty special. Some poor guy will think his number "001" is the first. LOL..............I'll have that pleasure thanks to you LOL I think he had a good day. Mike
  15. Hey Gals and guys, I will try to get Iron Butt ride to Don's Maintanance Day. All options are open, here's rout I was planning, but once again nothing is carved in the stone. Iron Butt Route Does anybody want to join me ?? First 6 Beers are on me at Don's ( after ride )
  16. How many hours did it take you? What was your average speed? If you were planning on an 800 to 1000 miles without a layover any suggestions? I'm considering about 950 mile trip in one day. In Sept of 2010 I rode 2 days from Vacaville CA to Buckely WA. 1st Day was from Vacaville WA to Corvallis Or a total of about 525 miles. 2nd Day from Corvallis Or to Buckley WA Via I-5 to Portland OR then to The Dalles OR to Yakima WA for a total of 385 miles. Now prior to this I had not ridden for 27 years. All I did was take the m/c rider safety course. Flew down to Vacaville and rode about 1 hour. Then took off the next morning for Oregon. Oh I also had a 4 way bypass open heart operation about 4 months ago. Since this trip I've put on about 2500 miles. I'm thinking that I could do this 950 mile trip in one day or 18 hours. Oh I today just go my seat back from Butler Seat modification.

  19. Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting. Well, for example, the other day, my wife and I went into town and visited a shop. When we came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. We went up to him and I said, 'Come on, man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?' He ignored us and continued writing the ticket I called him an jerk. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn-out tires. So my wife called him a moron. He finished the second ticket and put on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing more tickets. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote. Just then our bus arrived, and we got on it and went home. We try to have a little fun each day now that we're retired. It's important at our age.
  20. Got out for a ride with my wife and daughter today. I asked Jeannie what she wanted to do, she said a ride to DQ was all We enjoyed an ice cream then across the street to take in the local car cruise an hour there then a nice ride around the GM proving grounds, ending up at our son's home for pizza with the family. A great day
