  1. http://www.rocknbluesusa.com/ thinks we will stop in....
  2. Did 400+ miles in 14 hours yesterday in just picture perfect weather, and hit some of the best GA-NC-TN roads you'll ever ride in a day. Starting from the 'burbs in Marietta, we did back roads to Dahlonega, northeast up over Blood Mountain to Brasstown Bald, up to Hawassee, then lunch in Murphy NC. Shopped a little at Cherokee Cycle, then up to Rt. 28 (Hellbender 28) along the Nantahala River to Deals Gap. A little more shopping, then rode The Dragon up and back again, then down to Robbinsville, then west on the Cherohala Skyway to Tellico Plains, south on Rt. 68 to Blue Ridge, and then home. What a great day, but I'm feeling it a little today. The RSV did awesome in the thousands of twisties we hit all day. I never even had to get out of 2nd gear on the Dragon, and it just glided in and out of the 318 turns it throws at you in 11 miles. This is where you really appreciate the leveling link mod the most. And the Cherohala is just a fabulous ride all by itself. Gonna do that one again next month. Worth the trip from anywhere.
  3. Never heard of the Hocking hills before but 12 hours later the wife and I had a cabin rented for the night and saddled up and headed out. Two highschool kids were on a mission trip in the dominican republic and the youngest at young teen camp. We took 52 south out of Chelsea, MI into OH 109 to Lima. From there we headed east and picked up 56. What a great drive. We took a pit stop about an hour from our destination and realized a strong storm was trailing us. We arrived at the cabin around 4:30 thinking the storm might pass through for us to go out for dinner. Not so. Wind, hail, rain well into the night. I managed to kick back on the covered deck in the hot tub and watch the strom roll through. Good thing for the coffee we found to brew up for dinner! The next day we spent meandering through the hills and state park with several miles of hiking. What a great day. The evening closed in a torrential downpour on I-75 heading towards Toledo. We found a car to follow and watched their tail lights for 45 minutes. The rain finally ended around Toledo and we managed to dry out a bit by home. Check out the hocking hills. A great ride. Larry
  4. Happy Birthday Gil! Hope you have a great day. :Happy Birthday:
  5. Yesterday was a real nice day. When I got home from work I was asked why I was so late, My answer was that the bike needed gas, even though I bought gas the day before. So then there were some letters that had to be postmarked that day so I jumped on the bike for the 1 mile trip to the post office. 3 hours later I got home.......... The house was dark, the boss had gone to bed already. For some reason I needed gas again on the way in to work today......... I don't know how that happens....... I was still getting dirty looks this morning as I was getting ready for work. But I feel so much better. I might just need more gas to get home today........
  6. While I have learned a ton of great information about my bike in this website it is the friendships that have come to mean the most to me. I have been needing to get out and spend a whole day of just riding and TDunc who I meet here and have become good friends with needed to do the same. It was great to get together and just spend the day riding. He shared with me some great roads he knew and I shared with him some great roads I knew. We left at about 10am and got back about 11pm. Both of our mental health situations have received a great dose of fixin. How truly special it is to be able to develop so many great friendships and share such joyful experiences doing something we all dearly enjoy doing so much. Thanks VentureRider.Org family. 7. Yesterday I fired the VR to go to my DOT physical. She settled into an idle at about 1200 rpm when the norm has been more like 800 or 900. Later that day, after say 100 miles of running errands (I may have taken the long way, all day) it now seems to smell very rich, real gassy. As in gasoline, not gassy like me after Mexican food. And it may have a slight stumble on one cylinder. It ran fine when I shut it off the previous time it ran. I ran it Sunday, went to work Monday till Wednesday night and got on her Thursday morning. It just sat in the shed from the time it ran fine till it now runs differently. And not in a good way. I had the carbs cleaned and tuned after I bought it. I run ethanol treatment religiously and have sea foamed it regularly. Any suggestions? Maybe the diaphragms or one of them, went bad?
  8. Holy Hell Bro 106 years old ....you dont look a day over 70! :banana:Have a Great Birthday my Friend!!!
  9. In the beginning God created day and night. He created day for footy matches, going to the beach And BBQ's He created night for going prawning, sleeping. And BBQ's, and God saw that it was good. On theSecond Day, God created water - for surfing, swimming and BBQ's on the beach ,and God saw that it was good. On the Third Day God created the Earth to bring forth plants to provide malt and yeast for beer and wood for BBQs, and God saw that it was good. On the Fourth Day God created animals and crustaceans for chops, sausages, steak and prawns for BBQ's, And God saw that it was good. On the Fifth day God created a Bloke - to go to the footy, enjoy the beach, drink the beer and eat the meat and prawns at BBQ's, and God saw that it was good. On the Sixth Day God saw that the Bloke was lonely and needed someone to go to the footy, surf, drink beer, eat and stand around the Barbie with .. So God created Mates, and God saw that they were good Blokes, and God saw that it was good. On the Seventh Day God looked around at the twinkling Barbie fires, heard the hiss of opening beer cans and the raucous laughter of all the Blokes. He smelled the aroma of grilled chops and sizzling prawns and God Saw that it was good ... ... Well ... Almost good. He saw that the Blokes were too tired to clean up and needed a rest. So God created Sheilas - to clean the house, to bear children, to wash, To cook and to clean the Barbie, and then God saw that it was not just good. It was better than that, it was.......... Bloody Awesome! IT WAS AUSTRALIA !!!!!
  10. Spent the day on the range requalifying with the glock......good for another year....only 4 more years to go then ...30 years is a long long time....
  11. To HALRSV99 & MikeZ06Allen, I hope you fellas have a great day!!!
  12. I am GLAD that this day is over. I got up at 4:00 a.m. this morning to take the boat out on Lake Erie for a few relaxing hours of yellow perch fishing. They really were NOT biting. Temps got up to about 96 F and me and my buddy John cooked in the sun for about 6 hours and only caught about 15 fish. Got home and cleaned up because Eileen and I were going to a friends house for a little get together. She asked us to bring our Ipod because it has some good music on it. Got there and the Ipod locked up right off. Wouldn't power off or do anything. So....it was down for the night. Headed home and around midnight, hit a good sized deer in my new to me Chevy Avalanche. Took out the grill and messed up the right front fender a bit. Will look at it closer tomorrow but I guess it could have been worse. At least we weren't on the bike. Got home around 12:30. Eileen had taken her little YAP YAP Sheltie with us. Got home and she took off across the yard barking and our larger dog running along right behind her to see what all the fuss was about. That ended up with BOTH of them getting sprayed by a skunk. So...we have been outside until 1:00 in the morning washing two mutts. I'm going to bet now. I hope the bed doesn't fall down.
  13. Wishing a belated Happy Canada Day to all my brother and sister Canucks!!
  14. Happy Birthday Thomas have a great day
  15. My Dad, younger brother, and I are heading off for Alaska tomorrow morning. We are renting KLR650's in Anchorage and riding for 12 days throughout this great big state. Day 1 - Anchorage to Denali Nat'l Park Day 2 - Tour Denali Day 3 - Ride to Fairbanks - Visit Gold Dredge #8 Day 4 - Ride to Arctic Circle, take picture and spread some ashes, return to Fairbanks Day 5 - Ride west to Manley Hot Springs, soak for a while, return to Fairbanks Day 6 - Ride to Tok Day 7 - Ride to Eagle, then cross into Canada to Dawson on Top of the World Highway Day 8 - Ride back to Tok Day 9 - Ride to Valdez Day 10 - Take Alaska Marine Highway (ferry) to Wittier. Ride to Seward Day 11 - Ride to Homer Day 12 - Ride to Anchorage Day 13 - Fly home and resume my regularly scheduled life. About 2600 miles. 140 miles on gravel to/from the Arctic Circle. About 150 miles of gravel to Manley Hot Springs. Balance should be paved (unless we take some detours). We were originally intending to ride up there, but we only have two weeks. The ride would take about 6 days each way (with my Dad along - he can't/won't do the huge miles to get up there in 3 or 4 days). This would only leave about 4 or 5 days to ride in Alaska. Just didn't make sense. Need at a minimum 3 weeks to ride up/back. Will have a ride report when I get back. See ya' all in a couple of weeks. RR
  16. Just wanted to brag on my wife a little bit if you folks don't mind. June 18th was my b-day and we had to skip it as I was stuck at the hospital when my mom fell. June 13 th was moms and we also had to skip it because mom was sick and close to the hospital then. We were supposed to take mom to the beach (Carolina Beach) in North carolina this weekend but alas that has to be skipped also because again mom is hurting from a fall and is in a rehab/nursing home. Well here comes the bragging part. Today was her b-day and what does she do. She decides to take the day off and drive her bike round trip to Carolina Beach and get doughnuts from a place called Britts doughnuts. If you ever find your place at Carolina Beach do your self a favor and eat 2 or a dozen or so. This is an 8 hr minimum round trip and she did it with a friend in one day just to surprise me and my mom. All this again on her b-day. Now I know it was also a lot to do with the ride and being able to be free of all problems for a day , but for me I think shes the best. It made my moms day to be able to eat one of these doughnuts because that was the biggest reason mom wanted to go to the beach. Ok thanks for reading and have a great day. David
  17. It's Hell to be Old ... OLD people have problems that you haven't even considered yet! An 85-year-old man was requested by his Doctor for a sperm count as part of his physical examination. The doctor gave the man a jar and said, 'Take this jar home and bring back a semen sample tomorrow.' The next day the 85-year-old man reappeared at the doctor's office and gave him the jar, which was as clean and empty as on the previous day. The doctor asked what happened and the man explained, 'Well, doc, it's like this -- first I tried with my right hand, but nothing. Then I tried with my left hand, but still nothing. 'Then I asked my wife for help. She tried with her right hand, then with her left, still nothing. She tried with her mouth, first with the teeth in, then with her teeth out, still nothing. 'We even called up Arleen, the lady next door and she tried too, first with both hands, then an armpit, and she even tried squeezin' it between her knees, but still nothing..' The doctor was shocked! 'You asked your neighbor?' The old man replied, 'Yep, none of us could get the jar open.'
  18. Longest day of the year. "Yes we know but work, you know". Day one for me to go to Manitowoc Wisconsin from Oskaloosa, Iowa 560 miles. Stopped at JP cycles and bought goodies. Took scenic route. Heading west soon as the sun comes up. "See how for we can get before it goes down. Ken took me out for some GREAT pizza!!! More later "after my sore butt lets me". Bryan

  21. Since Moped usually says all he wants for Father's Day is peace and quiet, I thought I would ask all you Dad's here what you would want? I offered to cook him the standing rib roast that has been setting in our freezer, but so far no reply. I know MiCarl wants my whipgirl photo! Yama Mama

    Senior Riders Sign In

Was just wondering how many senior riders (65 yrs. plus) are on the board? I will be 69 in Nov. and the lady will be 66 and we are still riding the RSV. Last year we logged over 8K miles. I told the wife the other day I think I will know when it is time to give it up. The moment I do not feel confident and in control that will be it. So far so good. Thanks!
