1. I bought a set of arm rests from Larry for my '09 RSV. Larry shipped them same day he received payment and I received them about 6 days later (in Canada). Had a minor issue with alignment and went to Larry's to work it out together. He has his triked so it fit a little different but Larry resolved it same day and even took me out for dinner ! On the ride home (about 350km), my girlfriend commented on how comfortable it was. She's happy... so I'm happy ! I've gotten several items from Larry (Stebel horn bracket and wiring, lift adapter with legs) and as usual, the items are top quality with great support. While at Larry's I also picked up the engine guard braces. Here's the mandatory pics :
2. Yesterday after procrastinating about it forever I went to the gym. I can't pick up my coffee cup this morning!! Was on this site just before I went out the door and was thinking about things. So it is this sites fault that I may have overdone it 1st day in about 5 yrs. What I need is to embarrass myself on here so I won't quit. Have really slipped from what I used to be. Getting old and weak. Could probally knock me down with a feather:whistling:!! I paid for membership yesterday in hopes it will drive me a little. If you pay for something you should use it?? My arms really hurt this morning.Think I could get a little prayer for that or do I have to apply elsewhere?? Sorry Don....If you guys would push me a little this time it might help me to get the habit started again. If you get in a habit of working out you don't want to miss it. But if you don't do it regular it is easy to make excuses to skip days and then it goes downhill from there. Getting knocked down as I did it gives you a great excuse not to do it. OK Thats enough. Get out of chair and do something!!
3. Ok you have to add on to see where this story goes, I'll start. I jumpped on my second gen and started riding to Maintenance Day, just a passing all those first gens. Then I saw...
4. Please go to the calendar and add your name if you plan to attend. Here is the link to the event on our calendar. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=337&day=2013-6-8&c=1 For those who don't know anything about Maintenance Day, I just added some information here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=73841 EVERYBODY is welcome. It doesn't matter if you have been a member for 4 years or 4 days, we would love for you to join us.
5. I have been asked if I was going to host another Mat, Day and I said that I would and after talking to Sharon we decided we would make this a annual event and put a name to it, I didnt want to use Wisconsin Mat, Day because it has been used by others and that way it still can be. The date will be June 29th 2013 at our place near Viroqua Wisconsin. Orlin
6. We did have a beautiful weekend here in east Tennessee. I saw 74 degrees both days while riding and for the middle of January, this was record temperatures. It was good to get out and get a little seat time on Saturday with a friend that has just converted from a Goldwing to an 09 Venture. On Sunday, I rode alone and just enjoyed the day. There were a lot of motorcycles out and about everybody waved. The bad part about about having a warm day in the middle of winter is it seems just about every time we have a local motorcycle death. This weekend was no exception. We had a 77 year old man in a Cadillac pulled out in front of two on Honda's and one struck the car and the other crashed trying to miss the car. The 28 year old rider that struck the car died at the scene and the other rider, who is 18, is in the hospital. The only information the Highway Patrol has released at this time is charges are pending. I just wanted to take a moment and say that we all need to be extra diligent when we get out there and take those "off season" rides because many people just seem to forget about looking for motorcycles. The other thing is it seems like after not riding for a couple of months that we always want to crank it on some to clean the spider webs out. Be careful out there. RandyA
7. There I was sitting at the bar staring at my drink when a large, trouble-making biker steps up next to me, grabs my drink and gulps it down in one swig. "Well, whatcha' gonna do about it?" he says, menacingly, as I burst into tears. "Come on, man," the biker says, "I didn't think you'd CRY. I can`t stand to see a man crying." "This is the worst day of my life," I say. "I'm a complete failure. I was late to a meeting and my boss fired me. When I went to the parking lot, I found my car had been stolen and I don't have any insurance. I left my wallet in the cab I took home. I found my wife with another man and then my dog bit me." "So I came to this bar to work up the courage to put an end to it all, I buy a drink, I drop a capsule in and sit here watching the poison dissolve; then you show up and drink the whole bloody thing! But enough about me, how's your day going?

Subject: 2-2-2013 This New Year, 2013, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union address will occur on the same day. This is an ironic juxtaposition of events. One involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to an insignificant creature of little intelligence for prognostication. The other involves a groundhog. .
9. Well I cant wait, My last day on the job will be the 31st of this month. 37 years with the Goverment is way long enough. Now it will be time to ride more.............

13. Jesus, I know I am not the 1st person to wish you a Happy Birthday today, on the 2012th year of your birth. I also am not the 1st person to seek you out this day, there have been many before me that today have looked to you for guidance and comfort, and you have been there for them. I'm probably not the 1st biker to speak with you and wish you a Birthday greeting today. I may not be the first at a lot of things that pertain to you, on the day of your birth. I do want to be the 1st here, on this tiny website, full of people that follow you, know or try to know you, and some that are maybe interested in knowing you, to wish you that Happy Birthday. After all, it is you, the most recognized person in the entire world, who was given to us this day, so many years ago. You also gave yourself to us, to be our light and beacon on our path to being with our creator, Thank You for doing this. The sacrifice you made, for your father, to deal with satan for our souls, there are many that remember what you did, and are very thankful to you for doing it. I suppose what I'm really trying to say, is Thank You for this place, this website, to it's creator Don Nelson and his family that always opens up their home and their hearts to us, much like you do. Thank You for all the people that I have met here, who have touched my soul, and my heart and gave me some faith in humanity. My only wish, on this day of your birth, is that all the people whom I call friends here, the ones who enrich my life and put up with me. That you bless them and everyone on this planet on this day of your birth, because it's the best gift I can think of, to give them. We as humans, still hold some hope that we'll get it right one day, as we know you still believe in us. So Thank You Jesus, for being here for us, and Happy Birthday to you. I hope we can give you part of the present you really want, Peace for us down here.....

15. Rusty Wallace Racing Experience came to Texas Motor Speedway this past weekend and held a 2 day event where all of the profits were donated to the cause. I also donated my time for the event and pretty much shot photos non stop for 13 hours each day. Long days but well worth the effort. Texas Motor Speedway also stepped up to the plate for this also. It rained late Friday night and the track was wet Saturday morning. Someone made a call and the lights were turned on so we keep going until 9 o'clock that night. I don't know what the grand total was for the event but my photo event trailer had a total of $8200.00 that was taken in for the foundation. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c66/CNONT/RW1of1-11_zps2e80565d.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c66/CNONT/RW1of1-10_zps3b769b44.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c66/CNONT/RW1of1-3_zpsc1a2c77b.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c66/CNONT/RW31of1-6_zps935511d9.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c66/CNONT/RW31of1-9_zps3dfcdf04.jpg

17. Today is the last day that you can enter the current contest for your chance to win either 2nd Gen Carb covers or an Ipod Shuffle. Contest ends later this afternoon and I'll draw a winner tonight. Here is the link if you somehow missed it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74684
18. I am sure many of you will laugh at me but here it goes. The day is coming, although hopefully not for several years, when it will be just too much for me to get my leg over my 1st gen Venture and it will be just too heavy for me to handle it safely. I'm sure not looking forward to that day as I like my VR as much or more than any of the bikes I have owned over the last 49 years. Well, at the Toronto Bike show this past weekend, I saw a new model BMW that I think will allow me to keep on riding and enjoying it. Here it is:http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motorcycles/2012models/2012-BMW-C650GTc.jpg Yes, its a scooter that BMW calls a C650GT which has all the features that I think will make it an extremely comfortable two up touring machine. The only limitation that I can see is that it may not allow me to pull a trailer. Has anyone here seen one of these on the road or rode one? Here in Ontario, I know BMW will feature this model at their demo day this spring.

22. Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the older woman, that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment. The woman apologized and explained, "We didn't have this green thing back in my earlier days." The young clerk responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment f or future generations." She was right -- our generation didn't have the green thing in its day. Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were truely recycled. But we didn't have the green thing back in our day. Grocery stores bagged our groceries in brown paper bags, that we reused for numerous things, most memorable besides household garbage bags, was the use of brown paper bags as book covers for our schoolbooks. This was to ensure that public property, (the books provided for our use by the school) was not defaced by our scribblings. Then we were able to personalize our books on the brown paper bags. But too bad we didn't do the green thing back then. We walked up stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks. But she was right. We didn't have the green thing in our day. Back then, we washed the baby's diapers because we didn't have the throwaway kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy-gobbling machine burning up 220 volts -- wind and solar power really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that young lady is right; we didn't have the green thing back in our day. Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house -- not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana. In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn't have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity. But she's right; we didn't have the green thing back then. We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But we didn't have the green thing back then. Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 23,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest burger joint. But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn't have the green thing back then? Please forward this on to another selfish old person who needs a lesson in conservation from a smartass young person.
23. Ok I haven't been riding the bike since I fell off a ladder the 1st of last month and broke my hip. Doc says no walking, wheel chair or toe touch walker only. What a pisser. Any how one of my favorite things is taking pictures when riding. So I had the camera along the other day on the return from the Doc's. I got a lot of shots of this guy when we stopped at Starbucks for some coffee. Mike Red Tail Hawk on Light Post
24. Yo, does anyone know of any VR meets, MD's, or gatherings of anykind, anywhere in the next few weeks or month????? I am tired of sitting around, and want to go out riding a distance. Rather than simply going riding in my local area for the day, I always need a purpose and a destination. Otherwise I just sit home...typing on this forum. So, the best way to shut me up...typing wise...is to tell me there is a ride happening, a maintenance day happening, a nice dinner happening, and it is...1000 or more miles away. I leave in about 7 weeks to ride down to Bolivia, but I need something before then. Help?????
