  1. I have a 2007 rsmv. At first I put on some stock slash cut road king pipes and cut out both quarter sized chamber plates. It ran good and had a good sound when getting on the throttle. I wanted a little something louder so I got some straight pipes that were off a true dual road king. It still runs ok but I can def smell a def in the exhaust. I was wondering if I should get the carbs adjusted. when in fifth it does get a little sluggish when getting on it. Thanks for all the help. Also is there a way to do this at home or is it just better to get the stealership to do it?
  2. Ok after sorting my pictures (259) These are the ones that made my final cut. Hope everyone enjoys them. They are not in perfect order of when taken. http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b315/mamamo777/Asheville08/?albumview=slideshow
  3. I might have misunderstood or misread some stuff but I was under the impression the radio was suppose to cut off when we use the intercom. If the radio is on the speakers I can understand it why it may not cut off but when listening to tunes in the HeadSet, it is pretty hard to understand my passenger and vice versa. Is there a setting to get the radio to cut off when talking or is it something I have to live with? Thanks
  4. I found this quite moving. JUST A BIKER I saw you, hug your purse closer to you in the grocery store line. But you didn't see me put an extra $10.00 in the collection plate last Sunday. I saw you pull your child closer when we passed each other on the sidewalk. But you didn't see me playing Santa at the local mall. I saw you change your mind about going into the restaurant when you saw my bike parked out front. But you didn't see me attending a meeting to raise more money for the hurricane relief. I saw you roll up your window and shake your head when I rode by. But you didn't see me riding behind you when you flicked your cigarette butt out the car window. I saw you frown at me when I smiled at your children. But you didn't see me, when I took time off from work to run toys to the homeless. I saw you stare at my long hair. But you didn't see me and my friends cut ten inches off for Locks of Love. I saw you roll your eyes at our leather jackets and gloves. But you didn't see me and my brothers donate our old ones to those that had none. I saw you look in fright at my tattoos. But you didn't see me cry as my children where born or have their name written over and in my heart. I saw you change lanes while rushing off to go somewhere. But you didn't see me going home to be with my family. I saw you, complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be. But you didn't see me when you were changing the CD and drifted into my lane. I saw you yelling at your kids in the car. But you didn't see me pat my child's hands knowing she was safe behind me. I saw you reading the newspaper or map as you drove down the road. But you didn't see me squeeze my wife's leg when she told me to take the next turn. I saw you race down the road in the rain. But you didn't see me get soaked to the skin so my son could have the car to go on his date. I saw you run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time. But you didn't see me trying to turn right. I saw you cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in. But you didn't see me leave the road. I saw you, waiting impatiently for my friends to pass. But you didn't see me. I wasn't there. I saw you go home to your family. But you didn't see me. Because I died that day you cut me off. I was just a biker. A person with friends and a family. But you didn't see me. Repost this around in hopes that people will understand the biker community. 5. Finaly finished. After listening to everyone talk about floorboard placement making your passenger more comfortable I thought I would give it a try myself. I first cut the hinge off the OEM floorboard mounts and added length with 1/4" plate. I then welded a vertical piece to the new end moving the bottom down and forward. After shaping the new horizontal piece to match the angle of the original I carried that same angle down the new vertical piece which is now forward 3" and down 3". Next I cut the "T" end of a Harley Davidson floorboard mount and welded it to the bottom of the new vertical end. To minimize flex and add strength I welded gussets to the newly formed front and back inside angle and shaped to fit aroung the exhaust down tube. After the piece was chromed I added a new set of Kuryakyn boards. For the trunk I paid $10 for a HD fender rack at a salvage shop and cut all the flanges of it and welded it to a RSTD detachable backrest I bought on ebay for $50 (what a steal). I made the weld just above the latching mechanism. Once that was in place it made the backrest ridged enough to cut the upright hoop away just above the weld and not lose the correct angles and possition to allow it to click into place on the fender rail. To minimize any vibration or flex that might come up I welded a small strut to each side from the horizantal rack on an angle down to and existing hole in the fender rail. Once the entire piece was chromed I added an HD tour pak painted to match my bike and now I have a detachable trunk I can just click out as needed. My wife is much happier. It took some time but boy is it worth it.
  6. I read somewhere awhile back about shortening the antennas on the Venture. The only thing I remember was that you had to cut them at even lengths. Does anyone know anything about doing this? What would you use to cut them with? What would you use to put on the top to finish it off? Is it really ok to do this? I'm just looking at the possibilities right now and wanted some input. Thanks a bunch and ride safe.
  7. Hi, I'm missing the hazard switch from my 84 Venture Royal, however after going over the wiring loom I can't find where the 5 pin plugs located, should it be on the right side or behind the headlamp? I've looked but I'm stumped, not sure if it's been cut off:detective: as there's no battery plug as well, that's also been cut off as I can see the white/red wire. If anyone's got one for sale with the right hand grill please let me know. Things get better, playing around under the dash and now, the onboard computer's not working, great. I've taken the clock off now and will give them a good going over.
  8. After hearing about passinger floorboard and trunk mads I thought I'd give it a try myself. My wife is tall so the boards needed to go forward and down 3" each, so I cut the hinge of the OEM mount off and welded 1/4" plate to the cut end which added width. I then welded plate to the end to turn down and forward 3". After shaping the angle to match the original piece I cut the "T" end of a Harley floorboard mount and welded it to the bottom of the turned down plate. With that in place I welded gussets for strenght to the front and back angles. After shapping and grinding the edges smooth I chromed the piece and installed Kuryakyn floorboards. For the detachable trunk I took a HD trunk rack piece I got for $10 at a salvage yard and welded it to the OEM RS backrest upright just above the latching mechanism. I then cut out the backrest hoop and filled and shaped the connection. For ragidity and to minamize vibration I welded two angled struts from midpoint of the frame down to an existing attachment point on the rear fender rail. I then installed a HD tour pak painted to match the bike. I would appreciate hearing what you think.
  9. Got the pipes on everyone, and love the sound(Roadhouse Pipes - slash cut). Loud enough but not to loud. Very good rumble. Installation OK, just did not care for the wood block and hammer persuasion I had to use. But still worked out good. Have to kinda wiggle them as you go and take a wood block and drive them on a little ways at a time (wood block against the muffler hanger ). Then bolt up and tighten clamp. I also used some high heat silicone on pipe /muffler connection. I then unplugged the AIS and installed K&N filters. Purrs like a lion. I like the Roadhouse, good chrome to the end of slash cut pipes. I did not go with Bubs because I did not like the polished aluminum ends, I like the slash cut. Fuzzy
  10. 330239615319 http://www.ebay.com Looks interesting. Wonder what he did to the intake system. Lots of ingenuity in that build. I like the cut down stock fairing. Or at least the use of the stock speedo. Not sure if it's a cut down OEM one or not.
  11. I knew this was going to be a pain in the ass! I just got my new J&M headsets, and of course, I"ve got the full face helmets that they say "present their own set of challenges." Has anyone put these in their full face helmets that may know how in the heck you get the styrofoam out to cut the necessary holes. I've got a Z1R and my wife's got an HJC. Thanks guys.

  14. Well I found out this afternoon on my way home from work just how easy it is to pick up this tank of a bike. I was 1 1/2 blocks from home when i was at the last stop before pulling in to the drive. I started the left turn and noticed something in the road. I was still in the friction zone but needed to cut harder to the left to miss it. Well I did not have enough throttle and she died and just laid right over. I backed up in to her, just like on Ride like a pro and picked her right up. I hated tipping over but I'm glad I know how easy it is to get back up.
  15. Finally got up the courage to cut my 5th gear dogs today. Set it up in my drill press with an adjustable angle vise. I thought this might help keep it straight and I should be able to do the back cut also by angling the vise. Need to get a new stone first, will try that tomorrow night. I just rotated the gear and vice lightly around the stone (as it was turning, of course!) following the curve of the dog. Two dogs started at .0476, the other one was .0484 dimension across the widest part of the curved faces. Cut all three down to .0466 +/- .0001. Looked pretty good, and I believe all the rounded top is gone. Did not grind the other side (deceleration side) as I could not see any rounding on them. Will also try to backcut the slots with the vise as I can duplicate the exact angle I used on the dogs. Thought it might be easier than doing "freestyle" with the Dremel tool. Here are some measurements on the old and new thrust washer and clips and the clip groove in the driven axle: Plate washer: Old 1.98mm thick 25.23mm ID 4.38mm wide (ID to OD) New 2.02mm thick 25.28mm ID 4.38mm wide Thrust clips Old 3.06mm thick 6.67mm width groove cut in by wear .85mm New 3mm thick 6.5mm width Groove on shaft where split clips go-- 3.22mm So, I guess, there is meant to be about .15-.2mm play in the groove where the split clips go? I hope it's ok, 'cause I really don't want to spend $225.00 on a new axle. Any thoughts? I can't figure out why they would make the "new" split clips thinner than the old. Couldn't see much rounding on the pressure side (outboard) of the groove in the axle. Here are some pics Hey, I work in this garage, ain't got time to keep the bench lickety split clean!!!!!
  16. Well today I relocated the fuel filter to under the seat. Let me tell you, even though I read an old thread on how to do this, it was still a major PITA! I can't see how someone can do it without removing the fuel pump. The screw to hold the rollover valve is almost impossible to replace because of the nut in behind which has to be held in place with fingers. I couldn't do it for anything so I used a cable tie and it worked real good. I spliced the fuel line where the filter was and cut the line under the seat and re-inserted the filter. Now I'm just waiting for my glass filter to arrive from J&P and after that I'll only have to change the filter element. I don't recommend anyone try this if you have large hands or if you're trying to cut back on swearing. I'm sure some of you who have relocated or changed the fuel filter can relate! Anyways, here's to Yamaha for this awful bit of engineering......

  18. After three and a half years of not working, that ain't real easy! As some of you know, I hurt my back at work in October of '04 (2 weeks after buying my house!) and the last day that I worked was the day after Thanksgiving '04. After a year and a half of therapy, I let the Doc cut me in May of '06. He did a fusion and some other stuff on my back. I was on disability until July of '07 when I was released by the doctor and I left UPS. Since then I've had no income except from roommates that I took in to help with expenses. On disability I was making less than half of what I had been earning. It seems that the more you earn, the more you are hurt by disability, because they have a cap on it. Today I started training with FedEx Express as a courier. The lifting should be a lot less at FedEx. This is the air division, not the home dlivery (or ground). I can lift up to 70 pounds, I just can't do it as repetitively as is required at Big Brown. (What can Brown do TO you?!) The good news is that now I have an income again , the bad new is that this is really going to cut into my riding ! I guess there won't be anymore staying on line reading this stuff til 3am, either! Y'all think of me in the next few weeks while I'm in training! Oh Well, at least I can ride to work. I rode today with massive thunderstorms coming in, I decided that I needed to start the legend early (even if only in my own mind!).

    time for wires

Hey everyone new to the Venture's, site and really motorcycles altogether. I've had smaller bikes like shadows ext., but never anything this big and now I don't ride anything but this bike. I still have two Vtwins but this is the bike I ride. Anyway, I think I have about 18,000 miles on my 06 RSV and it seems to run ok but I had a used 99 RSV before this (my first and the start of a new love) anyway that bike seemed to have a lot more power maybe it was just me. This 06 is bone stock other than chrome. Is it time to change the wires, how often and how many miles? ALso, on my 99 I cut the D in the air box and put hot plugs, wires, K&N and cleaned the Carbs like crazy. And that bike just seemed to be a horse compaired to this one. So should I do the cut out, K&N ext. the dealer said it's not worth it? :bobby:Thanks Scott
  20. I've always had trouble finding a good riding jacket that fit me well. Being on the heavy side when I find a jacket that fits at the waist the arms hang down to my knees. The elbow pads become forearm pads. Last weekend I went to the Atlanta MC show for the specific purpose of looking for a jacket and I found one that works. It is a Fieldsheer Aqua Sport. http://www.fieldsheer.com/2008site/IE/product/AquasSportsJacket.htm I spoke with the Fieldsheer rep and they make jackets in 2 cuts. One for cut narrower for trim riders and one that is more full cut for us middle age wide bodies. This is the first jacket I've found with pads that is comfortable with all of the pads where they are supposed to be. This is my first exposure to Fieldsheer. It looks like a well made jacket but I had never heard of the brand before. If this works as good as I expect I want to get a warm weather jacket also. They have a mesh jacket with a zip out liner that has the same cut. http://www.fieldsheer.com/2008site/IE/product/TourTempTXJacket.htm Seems like the only brands the local dealers around me carry are Joe Rocket and River Road which never work for me. I just wanted to pass this along in case any other riders have the same problem finding jacket with a little fuller cut. DT
