  1. I have a few small odds & ends laying around from my MKI rebuild that I don't feel like putting on ebay. I just put a lot of 1st gen stuff on ebay, including a set of side covers & knee fairings that are in good shape. Do an advanced search on seller ID dingy101 if interested. 1st freebie is a louver from a knee fairing. Only one of the louvers is there but it could be moved to another unit. I also have a complete set of brake lines. I really don't advocate using old parts like these, but I understand someone may need them that can't afford new ones. MKI headlights. Plastic engine heat fairings. Couple of sets of MKI cams. Valve covers California air unit. Thermostat housing Horn set MKI clutch - missing one full friction plate. All this stuff is in need of cleaning. All I ask for it is actual shipping costs. Gary
  2. There wasn't much going on this weekend, so I decided to black out the cylinder covers on my scoot... I plan on scuffing/buffing the edges of the fins, but I'm waiting for the paint to cure first... Of course I had to attach before and after photos.... http://i788.photobucket.com/albums/yy164/human4m/0417001356.jpg http://i788.photobucket.com/albums/yy164/human4m/0417001355.jpg http://i788.photobucket.com/albums/yy164/human4m/0418001626.jpg http://i788.photobucket.com/albums/yy164/human4m/0418001626a.jpg
  3. I got cool stuff sat. and today ! Sat. i got the new V4 m/c covers from Renne , could not turn off the flash on camera so the pic's are not that good but the covers look great ! today i also got the Hooti Bootis from Black Owl pic is a lot better , Black Owl , your rite ! just what it needed ! also got my new VR bell today ! today was just like Xmas !
  4. Just curious, is there a "shortie" or "quickie" version of a cover that you can put on the bike...most of the covers talked about in the other thread were full covers that covered the bike from front tire to back tire. I am more interested in the fairing and then maybe just the seats and/or speakers. Or what about 2 separate covers one for the back and one for the fairing? I mean, I don't care if the rest of the bike gets wet. Or even on sunny days, I am still really on interested in covering the top of the bike. Does anyone else want a cover similar to this...or better yet, have one/ Thanks, Wally
  5. Im trying to purchase side box leather covers for my 99 RSV can you help me?
  6. Been fighting a cold, hayfever and finals at school for the last few weeks and now when I feel better and have a short time till spring quarter starts up, I got a couple of things holding me up from getting all the fairing and covers back on the vr. On the diagram below, I can't remember where these,(60), go? I noticed on both inner panels, there are holes the same distance apart, but the collars of the plate are to big for the holes. If they don't go there then what does?
  7. Im starting some serious spring cleaning on my First Gen and having trouble getting some of the covers/body pieces off so I can clean under them. Before I go all "He-Man" on them and break something....I thought I'd ask, "is there a guide somewhere on how all the covers and false tank and body covers come off?" Otherwise I'm afraid I will be posting asking whats the best epoxy to use? Any advice would be welcome!
  8. I know you are very busy making the M/C covers BUUUUUT have you ever looked at the the side covers of a 1st gen , the round parts in the middle , they have 1200 or 1300 on them ? they would look a whole lot better being replaced with V4 . OR do I need a Just thinking out loud , I know i should not think Thom
  9. I am just now reassembling my 86 VR after much TLC over the winter. Question: has anyone left the black air dampers off the engine? {just on top of the valve covers}. Any reason to use them? I want to thank all the technical contributers here for their work, it has helped alot on my project! The list.... removed fairings and fixed all the plastic cracks with epoxy and "glass, and repainted fixed class computer rebuilt the suspension/bushings with the zerks, lubed shaft etc removed the stereo/cb and all related components and replaced the plastic covers with stock non-VR parts [about 30 lbs of stuff} replaced the seat with aftermarket {bought used from here} replaced fork seals and front brakes replaced the pipes with new Macs {bought here} adjusted valves, tuned, carbsync etc I only rode the bike once after buying it last fall... so I am itching to get going! Thanks, Gary

  11. Ok.....I'm at that point. Got all my other stuff done and pulled the valve covers to replace the seals and gaskets due to a seep on the rear head and check the valve lash. Thought I was being the bright guy and removed the "hard" one first. The front. Only had to remove the bolts from the radiator and pull it ahead a bit. Pretty much slid out except for a little drag across the chain sprockets. Then the "easy" one....the rear.....oh yeah! Not so easy. Hung up pretty good on the sprockets and was a bear to work out of there. (Should have done this when I had the gas tank out) Now I got the covers all cleaned up.....got the 2nd gen gaskets sealed into the covers....got all 16 of the plugs on the bolts replaced. So.....any advice on what else I can do to give myself a little more room to work the covers back into place without scraping the gaskets back off? Bike is naked.....fuel line and overflow lines are out of the way. Do I need to pull the coolant lines to the heads? Maybe take the coolant hose off the top of the radiator to give me more room? Suggestion? Just trying to avoid a fist fight with my sweety. She does give me a hard time now and then. LOL! Thanks Mike
  12. Anybody know how to get the Drag Specialties drivers backrest pivot covers off? The backrest is from a 94 Goldwing and is about 3" to tall. I need to get these covers off so I can shorten it and hide the welds under the cover when I'm done. There's an allen head bolt on the back but all it does is just spin. I'm thinking maybe the plastic ring that says WINGLEADER comes off and there maybe some screws under that. Anybody ever try to take off those covers?
  13. Im putting together a custom bike from my 86, does anyone know if the bar that runs from the front engine mount back is neccessary? seems like it is there only to hold the side covers down at the bottom. parts catalouge calls it a down tube. thanks for any input
  14. Wow - I just got off the phone with Troy at Customleathers - great guy. I'm getting a bib - saddle covers - and grips - for $175 and they will be tan!! Now if the snow would only melt - more snow today and Sunday! We will break the all time record this year.
  15. Hi All, any ideas on how to get rid of the discolouration on my valve covers (and some other engine pieces)? I have seen a suggestion that paint remover and steel wool be used, but that seems awfully aggressive on these soft aluminum parts. Any suggestions?
  16. Ohh - Probably a dee dee dee question - I pulled my front wheel expressly to remove the * unsightly * rotor covers from my otherwise lovely RSTD. For some reason I can't for the life of me find the wrench to fit those bolts. My trusty metric hex set says no! What up? It's not Torx is it? Am I hallucinating?
  17. I have placed an ad in the 1st Gen Classified section for plastic covers that will fit in the Pilot screw holes in the carbs. Plugs I will ship are black, not the silver shown in the second picture below. Keeps dust and dirt out of pilot screw hole. These can be removed and replaced. Set of 4 covers for $5.00 including first class shipping. Gary
  18. Found a puddle of coolant on the garage floor, It is running down from the Head area of the right back cyclinder. Took it to dealer and it will be approx a week before they get to it, service manger said he have to wait until the tech breaks it down to see if the warranty covers it ?????????. Is there any reason they shouldn't cover it? the warranty is good until Aug 2010. they replaced the stator under warranty so I would it would cover the coolant leak 05 Venture
  19. I'm searching for Yamaha engine breather covers....I know they were discontinued, but....someone may know where I could get these: STR-4NK27-15-01 and STR-4NK27-15-02 Any help would be great.....Beth says we need these accessories....and who the heck am I to argue? What a great gal!! Thanks for any help on this one! randy:hihi:
  20. I've ordered a set of valve cover gaskets. The PO gave me a set of the heavy duty battery & starter cables but they were never installed. Should I put these on while I have things apart for the valve covers, and what problems can I expect to look for? I also have a new fuse block in the box.
  21. Would anyone know if rotor covers off of an '86 venture would fit an 84'? Thanks in advance
  22. I've lost one of the covers over the visor screw on my Nolan N41 helmet. I've looked everywhere for a replacement and even ordered a couple of times but always get a email back saying that it is not available. So, if you have an old Nolan N41 that you want to sell, please let me know. I don't care if the helmet is totally trashed out, I just need the small covers on the side that cover the allen screw for the shield. I'll pay you for the helmet, you can send me the covers and then through the helmet away.
  23. Just a huge shout of thanks to Coveralls. They were already a gold member for their past donations to rallies but now they are not only offering two of their covers as prizes at our International Rally at the Hub but they are also offering a discount to any VentureRider member who wishes to order direct from them. See the topic area "Vendors who offer us Discounts" for details. You can see their products at their site but you must call in your order to obtain the discount. Their online system is not setup to calculate the discount. http://www.coveralls.biz/
  24. Hello again, Had one more question. The bike I'm looking at has some pretty good scratches right on the high point of one of the sidebag covers. About 1/8in wide. Too deep to buff out. Was wondering if anyone had suggestions on quick ways to touch up. Bike is Blue. Does Yamaha make touch up paint? Anyone ever had a cover repainted? Ideas on cost? Maybe some well-placed pinstriping? I'm open to any/all suggestions. Ideally cheaper would be better as we're just buying the bike. I actually checked into buying new covers. I was told you have to buy a whole new bag, not just the cover. Quoted price was $960 for just the bag... no installation included. That a bit steep for my means. Thanks as always for any thoughts/advice. Bob
  25. I have a couple items on ebay for a 1st gen. Thought someone might be interested. The pic of the master cylinder covers do not do them justice. It looks like the pic is showing my finger prints. The item number is 2803372740063 for the covers. I also have a mirror and a pair of riding gloves on there too. Car business is slow, so looking for a little extra:mo money:.
