1. is thery any way to tell if the valves need adjusting with out taking vavle covers off:confused24:
2. I have had my bike down for an electrical problem that I thought was the TCI, but ended up being a terminal coming into the TCI. I also moved the TCI, which I put on the wall beside the radio. I also had my Corbin seat recovered and am still not real happy with it. I took it to someone that was recommended, but he has struggled with this seat, and with the changes I had made to it earlier, it made it worse. The biggest thing was my son Brian had my carbs off and had put them on his bike trying to eliminate some problems he is having. He has been thru his 85 carbs several times and still is not getting the proper fuel feed. But, at least mine is running good and feels good. After running it some, it felt real good to do a couple of 1st and 2nd gear runs up to 8,000rpm's. Now, I am getting a little more motivated to tear into the 30,000 mile motor I got with the 85 and put the 2nd gen Venture transmission in it with the V-max rearend in the bike. I am also going to put the solid motor mounts in I got from SGN (Steve) and do the valve clearance check. I really hate to take the valve covers off as they have had absolutely no leaks around them. It makes me wonder if these valve covers have ever been off the motor. It is supposed tyo be about 70 degrees here today with about a 30% chance of thunderstorms later on. RandyA
3. Does anyone know if ANY of the premade lid covers for Harley's fit the RSTD bags? they look similar to our bag shape. Seems it would be easier than trying to get someone to make some. I'm getting things ready for spring and I would like a set of the covers. Thanks Reno
4. Picked up a set of covers off Ebay that weren't in the greatest shape. Had the chrome stripped off and professionally polished for $50 bucks, so I'm in them right around $150 total. Lot better price that buying a new set. Whacha think?
5. since the carb covers are nolonger avalible was wondering if anyone could make a poster board pattern for me and i will try to make some out of polished aluminum thanks bill
6. I emailed Nanci at the link below after seeing a post in the 2nd gen tech section and inquired about making leather lid covers for the 2nd gens. She asked me if I had an old set to use as a base for making these up she could possibly make some sets. I dont but if anyone does have an old set, scuffed, cracked, or whatever and are willing to send it to her maybe she can start making these up. Thanks, Jeff http://www.acehighleathers.com/
7. I have the Wood Grain accent on my Speaker Covers, and the Clear coat is coming apart from the wood grain My plan is to remove them ....But what is the best way to remove them..without damaging the speaker covers .
8. Anyone have any luck or problems with Pin Wall cycle on Ebay? Sent them 2 emails asking about the condition of a set of upper fork covers before I ordered them and never got a response back. Not a good way to do business in my opinion.
9. A while back there was someone who would diamond cut the engine side covers. Does anyone remember?
10. For the most part I'm computer stupid! I there a thread that covers how to post pics?. Like pics for classifieds.
11. I was at my local dealer where I bought my Venture,Honda/Yamaha of FT. Walton, to have some warranty work done. (crack in left lower faring ) I noticed they had a set of chrome breather covers for a venture hanging on their showroom wall. This is the ones that set in between the cylinders at the bottom. I think these are discontinued. I already have a set on mine. I did not see a price, but I would suspect it would be suggested retail. If I remember right, they were between $80 to $100.Any way, here is their phone # for any one that is interested.850-862-4622 or 850-863-2346.
12. Was someone here bidding on chrome frame covers on EBAY?If you were the winning bidder i guess you needed the alot more then me:crying:
13. Ok, in the next few days to about 3 weeks give or take Hubby gets his first bike, maybe 2 if the price is right. Now I do have a bike jacket but is has no armor. What should we be getting in terms of gear for riding as well as other things not often thought of? Armored leather and mesh jackets armored pants or the kevlar that goes under boots gloves rainsuits helmets (what do y'all recommend there for bluetooth and intercom/music capablities?) Bike covers Yes this will be his first bike (bikes) and he wants the bike he learns on to go to me so we can ride together when we take trips within the state. I know we are both new to this and yes we will be doing an MSC approved course before we get too involved.
14. I have the Yamaha chrome set to cover all exposed bolt holes when the rear seat is removed but I have managed to loose the back one.....anyone know any sources where you can buy the equivalent chrome plastic push in covers individually?
15. I'm working on putting the original engine for my MKI back together. It hald fallen off my trailer and the valve covers and a couple side covers had gotten cracked and/or beaten up. With the help of some generous members, I think I have everything I need to put it back together. So now I have all the parts and a bucket full of bolts sitting on my work bench. I'm trying to figure out which bolts go where. Unless I'm not looking in the right part of my manual, it only tells me the diameter of the bolts that hold the part in place. As in 6mm,8mm, and 10mm. But how long is the bolt supposed to be for that particular hole? I can look at a microfiche and find out the P/N for the bolt, but still no dimensions. Would anybody happen to have some sort of reference that can tell me the lengths of the bolts according to either P/N or location? Thanks, Bill
16. I'm talking about the lower engine covers that are painted all black where the top ones have the aluminum (material?) showing at the edge. I am debating whether or not I should do this, as it is a quick and simple mod that's free. I would just like to see some pictures of the whole bike, not just an up close of the engine. Anyone have any pics they'd care to share? Thanks!
17. Looking for a set of 2nd gen air cleaner/box covers that you may have laying around for a possible project. Dont need the whole air box, just the outside covers. Thanks
18. I'm stripping down my RSV and removed the trunk and the stock seat looks like I stole a pillow off the couch and stuck it on the back fender... I know some of you have tried the Corbin and don't like it or your passenger don't like it and have one sitting in your garage... I don't have a lot of money but I have some items for trade if anyone is interested... I would be willing to work a deal... 2006 Yamaha Pillowtop seat... 19. Been meaning to pass on this info especially for those who have original foam grips that are showing wear. About ten years ago, I purchased some foam sleeves that went over my original grips. While I liked their comfort and feel, the quality of the foam was was not nearly as good as the original grips. However, the original grips on my 88VR were wearing badly so I decided to look for some new foam grip covers. I finally found a manufacturer that makes them - called "Grab On Quality Foam Grips" in WA. To my pleasant surprise, they make a size that is a perfect fit the 5in long x 1 1/2 in diameter original foam VR grips. They stay in place without need for any glue and are extremely comfortable and durable (so far). The manufactures says they are made from extra durable EPDM foam and claims to guarantee satisfaction. They are also an inexpensive fix at a price of about $10.
20. Im going to need a clutch resevoir that has good sight lenses in it, I will be screwing up the one on the bike to extract the screws that are all bugered up. some people should not be allowed to use tools!! I wanted to check the fluid levels, sight glasses are completely fogged, pulled the chrome covers and the screws are completely messed up I will have to drill them out to get the covers off. If anyone has one Im looking for one let me know ,Thanks.
21. Hi Guys, how are you all. I went on holiday camping over here in the UK, while i was packing to come home i closed my pannier boxes and boot lid on my RSV and guess what i locked my keys inside, even worse was i didn't know which box i locked them in. I had no tools as they were locked in box so i was knackered. I called our national breakdown service and after waiting 4 hours ( because England were playing ) they could not help me. So another 2 hours passed and we were relayed with bike home about 3am. I managed to pick the locks with a pair of manicure scissors ( not mine by the way ) but i had to remove the thin chrome covers. ( see photos ) Then i took the helmet locks to pieces and removed there chrome covers and put them on the pannier locks. What i am looking for now if possible is anyone who has 2 helmet locks so i can get the chrome covers off them,( you cannot dismantle the pannier locks to get chrome covers of but you can fit them on ). Reason is they look crap without the covers and i still want to use the same key all round bike. If you can help i will pay for items and postage to UK. What a plonker thanks guys Dave ( UK )
22. Some where out there on 81 in VA is a rear trunk reflector / lghit cover off of my baby. Ill post up a pic of what I kneed later. Its the plastic piece that sits between the turn signal covers on the trunk .My bike is a 91 Vr. If anyone has one of these extra they want to sell please let me know. Thanks in advance. David:fingers-crossed-emo
23. I'm going to try to post pictures of my bike with the covers. First of all - they are a pain to put on! Second, I think the quality of leather is a bit poor and maybe the person was in a hurry when he made them. I'm okay with it but not thrilled.
24. I FINALLY got my tank bra and saddle bag covers from Troy Savoie - took forever! Have any of you installed them on your RSV. It looks like I need to take the saddle bags off - then remove the latch and hinge - then put on the leather and trim. If anyone has any tips I would appreciate it.
25. I am sure there are a few on here that have dealt with leaky valve covers. My 83 with 122,000 miles on it have the original valve cover gaskets. I did do a valve clearance check years ago, but still used the same gaskets. Mine has gotten so bad that it was normal to have a couple of drips off the engine while parked. I also had oil residue on about everything, even my shoes. So, here is how I fixed it. One of the characteristics that was used on the valve covers was using shoulder bolts. This limits the amount of torque or squeeze that can be put on the gaskets and also keeps everything uniform. This is not a bad idea as long as the gaskets have some spring left in them. What I did was I stopped by an auto parts store and bought a buck or so of 1/32nd thick gasket material. I then removed the side covers and the plastic covers that sit on top of the valve covers. I then removed the two outside bolts on the valve cover. I put the bolts in a vice and using a screw driver, pulled the rubber seals off along with the metal washer. Using a hole punch, I made a hole in the gasket material slightly smaller than the bulge on the bolt. I also took scissors and trimmed the outside diameter about the same size as the washer. I then put the gasket on the bolt, then the washer and then the seal. After I seated the seal, I then screwed the bolt back into the valve cover hole, snugging it down, but not bottoming the bolt. I then removed the other two bolts on that side and put gaskets on them. After all eight bolts were back in place, I tightened them down until the shoulder bolt bottomed out. This actually caused oil to squeeze out around the cover gasket. After I tightened all eight bolts, I replaced the plastic cover and went to the other head. After doing this last week, I have put about 300 miles on the bike and the engine is still clean of oil residue and my shoes are also clean. This is not a hard job, costs a buck or so and it works. RandyA
