1. :Im not listening toI am somewhat embarrassed to ask this question but I have all you members out there that could help me with this problem. I bought the Yamaha Light covers for the running lights and the headlight. I installed the running lights with no problem. I took the bolt off of the headlight thinking that the chrome ring would come off but its refusing to come off the cowling. My question is, do I have to remove the complete front cowling to get the chrome cover off so as I can lock the visor in place?? I have a maintenance manual and it does not cover anything about removing the front chrome covering on the headlight. My owners manual also does not cover this area. Thanks in advance. Dan
2. Ok...stupid question...I have the V-four timing chain cover to replace the yamaha one. Question is, when I take the old cover off does fluid come out? Do I need to drain the oil first? I also have the water pump V-four cover and I know I have to drain the antifreeze but not sure about the TC cover. Thanks for any help
3. I just bought an '02 Venture with what looks like the pillow top seats and they are cracked on the seating surface between the buttons. Does anyone make a replacement cover for these? I really don't want to buy all new these seem to be comfortable.
4. In keeping with tradition on here, post what ya got for Christmas. (I know, I am so materialistic) I got... Best of all...everyone here for Christmas! Playstation 3 with Black Ops Motorcycle cover Clothes New boots Shoulder holster and extra magazine And a tool set I really like
5. This is my first Wing and bike with a audio system. Getting a little nervous riding in the rain. how do these systems hold up to rainy wet conditions. I always cover the bike when i am at work, can you ride in a down pour or do you need to look for cover. Has anyone had problems due to the rain
6. Does anyone know the correct silver/gray paint color for the 2001 RSV cylinder head cover. tx, Bob
7. So I, Mrs Kitty Hubert, Have now a 1987 Royal Venture!!! I'm so happy to have her home from North Carolina. Needs a good bit of work but I've got it under control right now. She is beautiful. Only problems we know of so far are: One of the front brake calipers wasn't working ( OutKast bleed it for me so it's good now ), No clutch?( goes into gear but doesn't move. Got the cover off and looks like small bits of metal and smells burnt:whistling:.), And it has some cosmetic needs. Can't wait to get it on the road. Going to really beat all those second gens now.
8. Many of you have already seen these "cheap $$ " options for protecting your bike cover from being torn by the antennas when they are folded in the "down" position. I thought I would re-post these options for the newer members who have not seen them before.
9. Wondering if I should get a new seat...Since I've only had my '06 RSV for a few weeks, I'm still slowly going over it and "fixing" it up. I had the driver seat off the other day and noticed 2 things. 1) there is a small (less than an inch) rip or cut in the side of the seat (can't really see it unless you are looking). 2) one of the 2 bolts that hold the seat on is missing. PO had used a sheetrock screw to hold that side on... I'm going to be sending the seat in to the member on this site that does the seat mods for lowering/narrowing anyway...so I'm not sure if the bolt can be fixed at that time or if the rip will prevent the cover from being restretched...Been spending money already getting a few "extras" for the bike so hate have to buy a new seat if I don't need to. Anyone got a stock seat collecting dust they need to get rid of? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!
10. Well, I just bought a 1987 Venture Royale with only 59,000 km (about 36,875 miles) on it. Seems the guy I bought it from put 40,000 of those km's on it over the past 6 years so he took care of all the "rotting while it sat unused problems" (I hope). He had the valves adjusted and the carbs cleaned and balanced 10,000 km ago and just put new tires (Metzelers) and brakes on it. Now to my problem...a rock knocked a small hole in the headlight cover 4 years ago and the owner put clear silicone seal on it right away. It seems to have kept out water, etc. but I would still like to replace it. There are a number of them for sale on ebay. Most are '83's to '84's but there are also two '86's. I know there were a number of changes made in '86 and I was wondering which other year of cover might fit besides the '87. Any help would be appreciated.
11. Well, I went to put the bike away for the winter and learned a few things. Last year when I owned the vstar I pulled the seat to hook up the tender and found that I had no battery. Today I pulled the side cover off thinking I was so smart and found fuses. I than pulled the other cover off and found the over flow for the coolant. It was now time to read the manual and discovered that I needed to pull the seat off. Well, since I had the owners manual out I thought that I would look into why the radio or Ipod keeps going in and out. Well most of you probably know by now that the CB radio was on causing the music to go in and out. Oh well, lesson learned; can't wait for spring!
12. After changing out my clutch with the Barnett Pressure Plate and Barnett Carbon Fiber Friction Discs, I also found my clutch release point was very close to the handgrip. As soon as I bled the system, all was back to normal. I decided to post the 2nd Generation Clutch Bleed to help anyone who needed it. First off, I put a brick under the kickstand to get my bike near level...then i gathered the tools needed. 5mm Alan Head (Hex) Bit, 8mm wrench, phillips head screwdriver, and a vacuum pump (not necessary but very helpful if you're doing it solo. Next step is to remove the left rear cylinder side cover. three 5mm bolts hold this in place. Unscrew and remove the resevoir cap and diaphram carefully. Cover your paint with a towel (I was probably a little overdue for a fluid bleed...) Suck out the old fluid from the resevoir using the pump (or a turkey baster) and refill with new DOT 4 brake Fluid (or DOT 3 or DOT 5.1) Attach a plastic tube to the clutch bleeder valve, set up your vacuum pump, and loosen the valve using an 8mm wrench. Now, get to pumping...watching the level in the resevoir as to not let it suck any air. When the fluid coming out of the valve is clear, the system is flushed. (NOTE: if you are doing this by hand, (1) loosen the bleeder valve, (2) squeeze and hold the clutch lever, (3) tighten the valve, (4) release the lever...then repeat 1 through 4 about 50 more times being sure to watch the fluid level in the resevoir) Once you are done, close the valve to 4.3 ft/lbs and refill the resevoir. Then replace the diaphram and resevoir cap. Put the rubber cover on the bleeder valve and re-install the left rear cylinder cover. Check the fluid is at the appropriate level... ...Then fire her up and go for a test ride! Hope this Helps! -Motorpig-
13. I'm wondering if anyone knows:icon_smile_question of any web sites that sells Smoked tail light cover for RSV's?
14. Back in July I bought a chrome Stebel air horn from Hornblasters.com. I also bought the Carbon One wiring harness and mounting bracket. Last weekend I finally got around to install the horn but the horn I received was the Nova Chrome version. This horn has a chromed plastic cover that looks great but because of the cover it's a little larger. Needless to say it doesn't fit in the space where the factory horn goes without some modification. The first thing I had to do was add a spacer (1/4") between the mount on the back of the horn and the Carbon One mounting bracket. Then I had to trim some of the plastic cover from the upper right side of the compressor so the horn wouldn't touch the engine. I used a dremel tool . Lastly I had to change the clips on the wiring harness that go the the horn. This horn has the electrical connections coming out of the bottom of the compressor. I changed the wiring harness connectors from straight to 90 degree other wise the wires would have touched the pipes. Moral to the story, when you by parts online make sure you get what you thought you ordered. Also, if you are going to add a Stebel horn make sure you don't get the Nova version.
15. Hi folks, this will be my first winter with my '85 VR and I don't have a garage to store her in. I do have a carport and would like to by a good cover. Any suggestions?
16. I have a friend who has an 83 and he did some repair work on it. Now - when he pulls on the clutch lever it won't move - but when he loosens the bleeder - it will. He also can't get it to shift even into Neutral. I know he had to replace the stator cover. Any suggestions.
17. I picked up a used VentureLine backrest. I'd like to replace the nylon friction washer beneath the hangers due to deterioration. But, can't seem to figure out the trick. The diamond shaped part in the middle rotates 90°. The hex keyed screw in the center will turn either direction without any effect that I can tell. And the chromed plastic cover won't come off without applying force and I'm reluctant to do that without knowing that's the thing to do. Anyone have experience with these things? http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/83%20Venture%20Royale/backresthanger.jpg
18. I have been given some info on a 2005 Yamaha that they believe is a XV17AS Road Star Midnight. It has 2000 Kms on it (1250 miles), has been sitting for some time as the owner has been ill. The bike is all black with soft bags and a tank cover to match. Can anyone that knows a lot more about the second gen bikes than I tell me if $9,000 cdn is a good price for this. its only :mo money:
19. I had a pm a couple of days ago of a new member that lived close bye but I work rotating 12hr shifts so it was hard to get back to him so today I had off and was installing new front springs thanks to Skydoc and he came over to shoot the breeze. The new springs work great and I fab'd up a bracket for the aftermarket rectifier that bolts to the frame and exhaust but keeps it away from the drive and heat from the exhaust, this way I was able to keep the OEM rectifier in place with all the plugs just in case my new one craped out all I would have to do is take the side cover off and switch plugs and off I go.When I get back from my vaca I will have it powder coated along with other stuff on the bike, Oh back to the new member he is a great guy and needs tips on how to go riding without the wife...lol
20. Their is a cover, mid-cylinder, with a phillips screw (seemingly) holding it. I have a flow of oil coming from bottom right side of it. What is this cover? Any thoughts on the leak?
21. I used to have one of those wooden-bead seat covers that was made for a cage seat, that I had trimmed down to fit my 83 venture years ago. After several years use, it finally fell apart. I've been remembering how comfy that thing was and was thinking about making another one. Today while in Wallyworld, I spotted one for $8.97 and bought it. This one is shaped a little different from the other one I had and it fit my venture seat right out of the bag without having to do a thing to it but weave 4 bungee cords through it to hold it to the seat. I did some riding on it this afternoon and it's sure more comfortable than the stock seat by itself, and yes, there is definitely a noticeable cool and steady flow of air down-under. It was cooler than usual here today and the cool flow of air underneath got downright chilly. It's not the most attractive seat cover on a bike but for 8 bucks, it does one heck of a job.
22. I have a friend who needs a left side crankcase cover for his 83 Venture. Anyone have one lying around? Email me at mrkyoung@gmail.com. thanks! The stator cover!!!
23. Has anyone ordered a seat cover from B and H Specialties (http://www.motorcycleseatcovers.com/index.htm). Their prices are good but just wondering if anyone has experience with them and if so are you happy with the replacement cover. The seat on my 85 venture has the stickies and I want to get it replaced. A local guy wants $400.00 to recover the seat and backrest. B and H Specialties would be about $176.00 for both. What are your thoughts?
24. I was wondering if people could post pics of how they mounted their GPS's. I have the RAM-Mount set up that uses a u-bolt on the handlebar. I have not installed it yet and was curious as to what others had done to see if anyone had a better set up than what I am planning on doing. My other question is where to get power. My original plan was to power it from the connector near the battery. But I seem to remember there being another connector under the cover where the key is. I am at work and the bike is home so I can't look. I have to take that cover off to remove the tank etc. But if there is a plug there it would make things easier. One more question is for people with the Zumo 660. On my last bike I ended up clipping all the data wires and just using the power on the cradle. This simplifies the wiring harness. Not sure what the usb is for in any case. Has anyone else done this? I use an iPod for music so don't necessarily need all the bells and whistles the zumo has.
25. My bike was missing the antenna for the radio, I don't have a garage for my bike, it gets covered with a nice cover, I needed an antenna, here is what I did. I went to autozone and bought a power boosted flat antenna, its designed for use on a windshield or the side of a boat, its self adhesive in three places, its held on through some pretty good temps so far this summer and works amazingly well. I utilized the right saddle bag as the location for the antenna.I located it on the door at its widest point. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/Touched1/PICT0004.jpg I drilled a 1/2 inch hole at the back ledge of the bag to run the power wire and the antenna cable through. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/Touched1/PICT0005.jpg I utilized the back of the lock as a ground. Installed the switch with the others, you may notice that the CB has been taken off the bike and new left cover has been fabricated to hold the class and cover the overflow. The red switch is for the radio antenna booster the other switches are running lights and rear light bar lights. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/Touched1/PICT0001.jpg It took me about and hour, cost 25.00 and I now have a great radio signal just about everywhere I go, no problem with garaging my bike under a cover. and a nice clean looking view to the back of my ride. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/Touched1/PICT0010.jpg
