1. I am using two CBDNROHSB Chatterbox headsets, bought them last December, started using them this spring. We were getting a lot of external noise (wind, etc.) and I thought it was from the passenger microphone because I figured she was getting more wind buffeting than me. I finally got to the point that I turn off the intercom until we need to communicate, just too much noise. Well, I have discovered that it's my microphone creating all of the outside noise, not from the passenger. The only way I can stop the noise is by using my left hand to cover the mike, squeeze my fingers together and really tighten my fist around the microphone. I compress the foam down to the point I can feel the microphone under the foam and then the noise stops. If I just cover the mike loosely it doesn't help. I'm wondering if anyone else is using this particular headset kit (or another from Chatterbox) and what your experience with it has been.
2. I have been chasing down a charging system problem. On the recommendationof a fellow rider, I replaced the stator. Charging system warning light still flashes. The new gasket that I had put on the side cover when I replaced the stator was leaking, so I went to replace it. Now, I can't get the transmission to shift out of first. I thought that maybe I had spun the shifter linkage when I put the cover back on, so I looked it the linkage and it appears to be ok. Put it all back together again, went to start it. It turned over for a few seconds then stopped. Now the clock reset itself, and when I turn the key to the "on" position, the clock goes dead and nothing is functioning. I am beyong frustrated and have no ideas where to go from here. Is it time to get rid of it?
3. pulled off tank cover and found this screwed to top of air cover. never seen this b4 and cant talk to po about it. says keyless alarm but i never got anything else with bike for or about it ????
4. I'm putting my 89 back together and I've had a slight case of brain fade. I'm not sure how the "special washer" underneath the center cover of the left side cover goes. I'm pretty sure just from looking at it that it goes in the way I show in the attached picture. Is this correct or do I have it backwards?? I've got it in so that the raised lip on the center opening is 'out'. Frank
5. going to romove handle bars on a 83 for polishing looks like one nut holding grips on, I assume 1 or 2 bolts at base under black plastic riser cover? can they be removed from grips an base with out disconnecting any wires ? Any help greatly appreciated Tom
6. As most of you know by now I finished our trike (3.5 years). My problem is I keep pushing gear lube out of the vent that I installed. I installed the vent in the top left rear of the flipped over center section (no axle tubes). Now looking back on old photos, I can't see a vent in the the old gear case cover. I couldn't use it in the build so I threw it away. Does anyone out there have or know of someone that has a 1989/1994 Cougar or Thunderbird V6 with the 7.5" IRS. Could I please get you to look under the rear and see if there is a vent of any kind on the top rear of the aluminum cover? Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. PS Everything is closed up for Memorial Day so I can't get into any wrecking yards.
7. Hello I was wondering if anybody knew where I could buy a left turn signal cover? I don't want to buy the whole unit I just need the cover. Thanks
8. I lost one of the screws for the side cover. Part # 90149-06298-00 I have found a couple of suppliers but some want $13 to ship a $1.44 part. Are they any places with reasonable shipping for a couple of these? Its a real pain searching because most of them you have to set up an account to find out what the shipping charges are. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
9. i'm the new owner of a 1996 royal star (xvz13a). the previous owner had somehow snapped off the prong used to lower the kickstand. i've read the posts about welding the kickstand, but i've purchased a new kickstand from a salvage yard and would prefer to replace the kickstand. here's my problem: i can't remove the bolt holding the kickstand because it screws out against the alternator cover and won't come all the way out. is there a way to remove this bolt without removing the alternator cover? thanks for any advice.

11. ok guys i need some answers, with only 1100 miles on this new bike it seems to a lot hoter then my 06rsv after tracing down the main heat source it appears to be coming from the chrome clutch cover on the right side as sitting on the bike ( rear big cover). today i rode 5 miles and it was hot enough to feel thru my boot and pant leg after returning home i used a contact themp. and had a temp of 162 is this normal. i did check to insure the fan is running, the oil level ok only difference from the 06 is the chrome rad coveing,06 doesnt have one any suggestions thanks steve:confused24:
12. I bought a new Barons V4 Water Pump Cover and replaced the stock cover, using a new o-ring, and it leaked when starting. I tightened it down more but still leaked. So I got another new o-ring and reinstalled again today, making sure I got it seated properly. After torquing per the book (7.2 ft/lb) and refilling radiator, it leaked again. I tightened the screws down a bit more (10 ft/lb) & it still weeps. I've got 1 more o-ring left so am thinking of putting the stock piece back on again. Just wondering if anyone else with this V4 cover had any leaks? And wondering how tight do I dare torque those bolts in? Also, what's the normal water temp if the bike's been sitting at idle for 5 minutes?
13. Is there a Bleed screw for the Cooling system??? Everything with Coolant SHOULD have one! Also having trouble getting the rear caliper cover ( Flat Black Cover ) back on. Seems simple. Many Thanks bf
14. I am looking to fix the sticky seat issue in an economical fashion. Has anyone ever used a seat cover from B&H, and if so are you satisfied? Any photos? Thanks, Joel
15. Hi fellow riders. I just installed the Stebel horn in place of the stock horn on the lower right side of my 07 RSV. I used Carbon One's bracket and it works fine. The chrome plastic cover does touch the clutch housing and the exhaust shield. I have not taken it out for a ride yet, was wondering if anyone has had any melting on the chrome plastic cover with this installation. Thanks in advance for your replies.
16. I'm continually amazed at how talented my kids are. Probably it's because I don't have these talents. My two girls each have blogs about the crafts, knitting and sewing projects they do. One does photography. My older son is at Weber State in the manufacturing engineering program. I think he likes it so much because he not only is learning the technical side, math etc, but because he gets to play with the machines. One of his projects this semester was to make a receiver cover.... this is what he designed and produced: http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/IMG_1125.jpg After some final smoothing of the tool marks and some paint, it will be complete. I'm glad he doesn't have a truck....that way I get it for mine. Dave
17. Hello, I am leaking oil (not just a few drops) on the Right Side of motor, from in front of where the Clutches are... there is a cover that say's YAMAHA...it is leaking from under that area. I cleaned the area, went for a ride... and now had a "smear" of on the underside of whatever cover that is...smearing over the clutch cover...and can see oil marks on my leather luggage... all on Right side of bike HELP! What is that cover? What is under it... Is it a function of replacing a gasket?
18. The cover plate on side of the engine, each cylinder has one and it is held in place with a phillips head screw. The cover was loose and rattling and the screw would not turn in or out. Well the short is the head is now stripped out. Any thoughts on how to free the screw. I thought about drilling out the screw head............I'm afraid of ripping a hole in the cylinder. I believe the screw is fused to the aluminum in the block. AHHHAHHHH. joe (Saddle_Bag)
19. Well, I purchased my first 1989 Yamaha Venture Royale, but the problem is I can't cram it into the shed with my other bikes lol. So, until my garage gets built (probably another year) I need a durable cover to withstand the elements (all year long). What covers do you guys have (I know most of you probably have garages or larger sheds).
20. Does anyone have a stock black plastic Ignitions switch cover lying around they wouldn't mind getting rid of? Kind of tired of the scratched up chrome one that I've got. Search pinwall and they only had a tan one from a millennium and partshark wants $41 for a new one. Thanks
21. Hi, I purchased a high output stator from Buckeye Performance and have been reading the threads both here and the step-by on the Venturers.org site and have a couple of questions. In a thread on the HOS install someone said this: Basicly just remove both Case Covers on left side of engine. ( You have to remove the aft cover also, to access the Wireing bundles) After cover is off, Its just a few small bolts, to change the Unit. The one sticking point is the Gasket that Seals the 3 large wires from the Stator, and the 5 small wires from the " Ignition Pick Up Coils " Be sure to order New Gaskets, for the Case Covers !!!! ( Both of them ) Also, the Lower Bolt, on the Aft Cover, has a Brass Crush Washer, that makes an Oil Seal. Its advisable to order a few of those and keep on hand. In the step by step photos on the Venturers.org site it looks like someone is taking the exhaust apart and considerably more is involved than removing a few side covers. Am I missing something here? Do you have to drain the oil from the bike in order to instal/replace the stator? If anyone could help clarify this for me and or give me some additional information it would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance. Chris in Red Deer, Alberta
22. will a tank cover and windshield off an 85 fit my 83.
23. Does anyone have a suggestion for making the tank cover not pop out of the front holder on a 1st gen? This has happened a few times and it is a little distracting when it does this. It only does it around 90+ mph. I will help those that have the obvious answer, stay within the speed limit. I know that one, but it cuts into the fun factor. Gary
24. ONE: did Yamaha make a tool to fit the stator cover screw plug or am I missing a tool from the original kit? You'd think they could have put it on the end of one of the big box end wrenches. Anyways, this week I finally carved a piece of steel to fit that stupid curved slotted groove. (pics 1, 2) TWO: what is that hole for on the bottom of the rear crankcase cover? Looks to me like Yamaha guessed wrong where the shifter shaft would come through. (pic 3) Just wondering...is all.
25. OK...since I have began to REALLY enjoy and like this bike, I have been "making it my own". In the recent weeks I have added some leather fringe, electric gloves (Gerbings), changed out the Tank Bib a couple of times (see pics) and added a Gas Cap cover (yep-covering up that chrome). The leather Tank Bib and Gas Cap cover were done by a lady that rides a Tour Deluxe and I think is a member here...but not sure about that. Anyway, she made me a fancy tank bib, but I also wanted a plain black one (which is what this one is). She does VERY GOOD work also. Windshield is next...I am getting the F4 Customs shield. I just wanted to share some of this with the members here. Wally
