  1. while I was taking the left cover off the engine to get to the burnt stator, the smallest (top left) and middle size gears jumped out too. I have managed to replace them into their designated places but am not sure if they, or their shaft, might have turned a bit before I got them back on. Are these, in any way, timing or otherwise sensitive to their exact rotational position? Looks they might simply be used by the started to drive the main shaft... but not sure. I've done timing on cars with gears, chains, cogged belts, etc and the rotation of the gears is ABSOLUTELY important... is it here? I'm afraid to try starting it in case I've messed up... please help. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow if we need it - too dark now... Thanks
  2. A must see. They are from right here in burlington. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9NF2edxy-M]Somebody That I Used to Know - Walk off the Earth (Gotye - Cover) - YouTube[/ame]
  3. i will try to keep up with some pics of this install. here are some with the new stator installed and wired. i eliminated the small harness alltogether. it was fried anyhow. pretty simple, pos to pos, neg to neg, yellow to white. same with rectifier. only problem ive had so far, is i ruined the case cover gasket last night. ordered a new one ( thanks again earl). i should have pre-fit the cover first. didnt go on as easy as it came off. also, the shift rod likes to go upside down and messes up alignment. make suke you are aware of its original position. the new stator has an extra set of windings. guess thats what makes it better? parts of old pics too. as i wired it, i cut off the old wires for reference. helped out. didnt want to mix anything up.
  4. I have a Great Pyrenees service dog that must be with me at all times. The dog is large to huge. is 5 ft.9 inches when standing on her rear feet. weighs in a little over a hundred pounds. she stands at 36 inches floor to top of her head. I need a trailer pull behind my Royal Star Venture MM edition that will accomodate the dog. She is a diabetic seizure alert dog. I have a Bushtec Turbo with the zippered hangup bag, spare tire tube and wheel, updated suspension, trailer travel cover, ice chest with cover, trailer bra, all lights l.e.d. rear light bar with peterson lights, fully carpeted inside. Color is polar white, I am seeking something of equal value. Located in Tulsa OK 9187200395
  5. I'm embarrassed to say this but I tried to remove the left side crankcase to install my new clutch spring. I got the clutch installed on the right side but only after I screwed up the gasket and the starter clutch wiring on the left side crankcase. How hard is it to remove the left side crankcase and replace the stator coil wire since I think I damaged it while trying to remove the cover? Also it feels like the (left) crankcase cover has something keeping it from coming right off ( springs back when pulled on). Is there something I need to know about when removing that cover?
  6. I was getting some stuff from my right (throttle side) saddle bag and noticed the black plastic cover over the internal mechanism was missing. You would think I would notice that falling off, but have no idea when or where it fell off (it wasn't in the bag). Does anybody have a trashed (or a good one) saddle bag that might have this cover available? RR
  7. I just happened to be looking on ebay and I saw some very familiar parts on there and when I saw the battery cover with the stickers I new it was my bike that the insurance company totaled in Ga. If you see the 86 parts that are tan with stickers on the battery cover that was my bike so if anyone wants to buy the parts I can give a history of them. The engine is for sale also and it does not have 70 something thousand on it because the speedo was in Kilometers so divide that for miles. Tom
  8. Looking for a stock narrow "Tank Cover part#4XY-2171A-00-00" without any pouches. Does anyone have one just laying around that you've removed when upgrading to a leather one with pockets ??? If it's the right price, I'll pay shipping costs. Thanks, Mike
  9. So I have been growing tired of looking at my weathred old studs. Not pretty. bike looks good from far. Takingoff the studs will leave stud holes so Im pondering how to cover or dress up. I hjut ordered some leather laces lets see hat I can come up with.
  10. Hey, Thanks to a little low speed OOPS on a wet curve at the entrance to my subdivision yesterday, I now have a bit more road rash on the bike. All seems ok for the most part, but the farring plastic at the starboard edge, outboard of the speaker grill, has suffered the most. Seems to me I recenlty saw an old online Markland catalogue somewhere. If I remember right there were some chrome caps that fit onto that edge that would likely neatly cover up my bit of damage. I have never seen a set of these in person or on ebay, despite years of browsing, so I conclude that I'm not likely to find a set of these in this lifetime. Strikes me though that this edge is quite vulnerable and damage there must be fairly common, even if the bike never leaves the vertical plane. What do others do to either protect against or cover up road rash on this edge? Thanks, Brian
  11. I've got a small oil leak on the left side of the motor. Last year I had all of this apart to change the stator and the starter drive. The leak "appears" to be at the bottom of the left case (stator cover), not the middle gear cover. The oil looks fresh at the bottom of the stator cover, but I thought I cleaned engine and the cover carefully before I put it back together. I used no sealant on this gasket. When I look up at the stator/ignition sensor coil leads from the bottom, it looks dry. Wouldn't it be wet back there if it was leaking from the clutch slave cylinder and gear indicator switch? Any other ideas?? It's due for an oil change, so I'm planning on pulling it apart soon. Frank
  12. Hello Riders Looking for the chrome cover to the driving light bar on the front as well as a light bar spacer. I emailed the contact listed on the site for the spacer, never responded to my inquiry. My scoot was missing the U-shaped chrome cover (Yamaha does not have this single itme available) and I would like to also install the spacer to make it easier to access/cowling removal. Any out there looking for sell or move these items?
  13. Got the turnsignal / flasher fixed and all back together. And everything works. Engine is warming up right now. Thank you all for the help. But I need some more help. This one bolt, I do not know where it came from. It fits a 12 mm socket. I took the headlight out to get to some of the electricial. I took the steering cover off. I took the Air Compressure unit out, with the fairing cover so I could remove the flasher switch. I took the 2 side covers off. I took the seat out, but it is now back on with the 2 seat bolts. Any ideas?
  14. Been awhile since I was here last but I just pulled my 1990 VR out of the corner and brushed the dust off! Naturally I had to give the carbs a good going through. She is running sooooo pretty now! The air ride E4 glitch was back but a little cleaning of the connector pins made the air pump clammer back to life. I have a tiny oil leak at the staor cover gasket from a previous fix but thats easy stuff. I am wondering about interchangeability of body doo dads on the xvs12 and 13 such as the windshield, radiator cover, and front turn signals. I have a right signal lens that is cracked and my rad cover has a crack as well. She is a nice old girl and I would like to keep her thataway. Anyhoo glad to have her back on the road I forgot what a comfy bike it is to ride! Dave
  15. Hi I just purchased a 1986 Yamaha Venture Royale 1300. Apparently the ex-owner had not screwed down the gas tank cover and it flew off. So need to replace it. The bike is beige. 1) Does anyone have a tank cover for sale (in beige would be perfect!) 2) Does a tank cover from a 1200 Venture Royale fit a 1300 Venture Royale? Thanks!

    Droid

If you have verizon and a Driod be advised they do not cover your phone with insuance. you have to have the extended warrantee and it is still a fight and you will loose. Pay every month for years (I started with Air Touch) The Droid Phone is designed to fail in 2 years. Be warned. Your insurance is no good unless you break it (hit it with a hammer if you have any problems) that is the only thing they cover. Once you try to have it fixed they screw you; again if you have any problem hit it with a hammer, they cover nothing other than that. I hope I have saved some of you some hassle I have had for the last 3 days. Back to a regular phone. Rod
  17. My venture max, now thinks it's a Yamadavidson, it has left it's mark on the floor of the shop here at work. (looks like the valve cover gasket, and I'll have to clean the floor) I should never have put the H/D tour pack on the back.
  18. I was wondering if one of you still have a good TCI for the 84. I think mine might be bad, and don't know where I can get one to try. If you are willing to lend me one, I will cover shipping
  19. I was just wondering if anyone knows what the inside of the factory exhaust looks like. My 84 still has the factory exhaust on it. It has a few patches welded on it, and a few more pin holes. If feasable, I was wondering if one could cut it open, and put a new cover on it (just to keep it looking original)..........ok, just to cheap to go buy another one. Anyone have any ideas. CBMMA
  20. I want to change out my bars on my 07 RSV. I want to bring them back about 1 1/2" - 2". Who has done this and what brand and model number would I use? I bought a set of 1.5" risers off of ebay, nice product, they moved the bars back perfectly except the caps hit the ignition cover at full lock to the point it would crack the cover. So I sent them back and now want to find a longer set of bars. Any info?
  21. Can anyone point me in the direction to find a fuel tank cover for a 07 tour deluxe. The OEM schmatics dont list it or I cant find it. Will the Venture cover fit.?
  22. I lost my left side front speaker cover today while riding my 03 GL1800. Anybody know the part number or where I can pick up a replacement cover/grill?
  23. I looked around and haven't found a thread about this, so I apologize it it's been addressed earlier. I've been working on my '86 VR since Thanksgiving weekend, just taking my time and doing maintaince / repairs and any mods I think need to be done. I started the bike last night so see if the new plugs I installed smoothed things out (they helped a lot) and noticed how much air the carbs suck with the tank cover off. It seems like the tank cover would make it hard for the bike to breath very good. I know a few have opened up holes in the air filter box cover to get some more air in that way, but has anyone tried modifing the tank cover to help it get more air from the outside? Seems like it would help the bike quite a bit. Thoughts? Thanks, Mick
  24. well a man was mowing the grass here today and came up to me and said what kind of motorcycle is under that cover? i pulled off the cover and showed him the venture, he said start it up and i did i explained that a friend of mine eusa1 mike drove it back there and shes a runner. i let him pick at it. of course the little cracks and the great niece painting the trunk brown took some of the value off of it i showed him the receipt for tires batttery and brakes and exhaust. i tould him i cant let him take it for a ride as he had no MC endorsement and last time he was on a bike was 15 years ago. he said it pops and sputters at idle i explained that my friend mike said it could be dropping a cyclinder but he did take it up to around 75mph and never took it out of 3rd gear. well after all the looky here and looky there he came at me with a $700 offer i thought about it and said let me think it over. as its not in that bad a shape for an old girl even mike usa1 said she can be fixed maybe carbs and plug wires and seafoam the crap out of it. and well since its up and stored im thinking no.
  25. I read a post from Goose and he stated that you can inspect the rear pads from behind the right rear bag. I did as he said and it was no problem. Just get you a long screw driver and pop the plastic cover off, then have a bright small flashlight and your spectacles to see the brake lining. The cover pops right back on with the use of the screw driver to push down upon the cover once placed in position. My pads where in the 1/4" use range. The inside was around 3/16" while the outside was 1/4". So for those of you whom have changed and have experience with brakes. I am wondering though, just how much pad can I depend upon until change time ? Do the original pads have rib-bits in them, or are they clued? If clued then I may be looking at about another 4,000 miles till change time? The bike has 13,000 on it now, 2007 model. I also checked my Avon Venom tires with a bright flashlight for cracks. There was none. So I am pleased. They are two years old and 8,000 miles. So I am happy about that. But I am somewhat concerned about the brakes, since I have no prier experience with them. Thanks to Goose for the information on checking the pads. Thanks to all in advance for any help deciding on the pads to change. I do know that when I change, I think I need to use the EBC double H sintered pads. I saw some here in the classifieds for $ 27.00 . Fuzzy
