1. Hi guys. I have a 1983 venture royale. I have all the bolts taken off the stator cover, but there is the gear shaft and its linkage that's stopping me from pulling the stator cover off. Two questions. How do you remove the gear shaft from back linkage/stator cover entirely? How can you just slide the stator off the bike leaving the gear shaft put? Please help. Thanks. (1st timer, I'm 27 w a 30+ year old bike.)
2. Last year a member asked me to help fix his bike, turned out that water had got into the motor and it was ceased. He picked it up and has it parked since then under cover. It's been a few years since it has been used. He wants to donate it to somebody deserving. Let me know if you're interested. It's in Georgetown Ontario
3. Do you need to drain the oil before pulling the cover? I know there will be some oil lost when doing so, but how much is up there?
4. Correct me if I am wrong (not everyone at once), but don't we have someone on this forum that has the valve cover gaskets, and valve shim kit, that...if I buy the valve cover gaskets from them, they allow me to use the shim kit ??? This is for my '06 RSMTD.
5. I am wondering if anybody who has a a Corbin also has a sheepskin cover? I have been looking but haven't found anything.
6. I know it says Honda but should probably work on other bikes. http://www.addonaccessories.net/shop_details.asp?cat=%2DGL1800+%2A%2ANew%2A%2A&prod=%2A%2ANEW%2A+SIDE+COVER+REPAIR+STUDS+2011
7. Stator went out on my awhile back so I have to replace it, got down to the bolt that holds the retaining cover for the stator wire going out of the case and snap off came the head. So I think ok I will drill it and use and easy out nope broke the stupid easy out in the middle of the bolt. I had thought about drilling to the side of it, tapping it and putting in a smaller bolt but I guess I really should just get a new side cover. Any thoughts , ideas or just plain jabs for my stupidity are Welcome. I am hoping I can find someone parting out an engine or has replaced one because it was scratched for cheap. Looks like a new one cost around 300 bucks.
8. Going to visit my Grandkids in Illinois for Thanksgiving and I am considering renting a luxury Car or Minivan to make the 12 hour each way trip a little more comfortable (would ride but my daughter and her boyfriend are going too). I have never rented a car for pleasure so I have never had to deal with all the diffrent add ons. I have heard that my insurance will cover some damage and that credit cards will cover some items but I am not sure guess I should give them a call. The other thing is which rental companies do not charge per mile if you leave the area. Enterprise charges $.25 a mile if you are going further than the adjoining states. Any advice/tips are appriciated.
9. Next weekend I'm puttin the bike away for her long winter's nap. It's going to be staying in a pole bar at my Uncle's place. I figure it would probably be a good idea to invest in a cover to keep dust off of it. I've got the 1300 RSTD, not sure if that's going to require a "Large" bike cover or an "XL" bike cover. Suggestions? Thanks
10. I've changed the filter a few time but ya know. When you assemble the spring goes on the shaft between the filter and the magnessium cover to keep the filter tight to the motor right?!! Total brain fart! Pretty sure I'm right:) Tx Brad:fingers-crossed-emo
11. '88 VR......Is there a good way to install a retaining strap on the saddlebag top cover to hang it, rather than lift it off and set it down? Ideas are welcome...... -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA '83,88 Venture
12. trying to find a cover for my 83 royal. the ones i have seen are high dollar. this is not a show bike. just need a better seat. cant get mine wet as takes forever to dry back out. plus dont like wet backside.
13. How does one repair/replace/fix a ruptured cover for the noise sensing microphone on the VR radio controls? -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA '83, 88 Venture

Learn my lesson today

Had a leaking valve cover gasket dealer said they could do it or I could, if they did it, it would have been cover under warranty, like a idiot I said no I would do it hardest part is remving the tank.... WRONG....All day doing that gasket just putting on and keep in the slot as I installed it was a PITA....Never again it will be at the shop next time.. Never seen one that hard to put on I'm sure there is a trick to it..
15. Looks like I may need to reinforce the mounting braces..... The good news is the $0.01 XXL cover will cover the sidecar too.
16. As you can see in the pictures, I have one more cover to polish. All the covers started out looking like the stator cover. The other covers I started with 220 grit sandpaper, and worked my way up to 800 grit before switching to polishing compounds. The third image is of the stator cover after using paint stripper to remove the old finish. With this one I'm thinking of just using Black Emery polishing compound to clean up the ugly spots first then work on the whole case, working my way up to Red Rouge. I tried this on a couple of spots in the last two pics. I'm using a Dremel Tool with wool polishing wheels. Bill
17. It all started innocently enough. The aluminum crank case covers look bad, so I removed them to polish them up, while I was at sea. I removed the water pump cover, clutch cover, plus the small rear one on the left side (transmission?). I couldn’t get the large front one (stator?) off at the time. While I was waiting for the gaskets to come in, I worked on the large cover. When I finally removed it a small gear fell out. I was able to put it back, hope it isn’t supposed to be in a certain way. I went to remove the screws holding the wires to the cover but no luck. I have the right size screwdriver, but they won’t move. I stopped before I stripped the heads, but I think it won’t take much force before they are striped. What is the easiest way to get these screws out? I can’t get the cover to my workbench, as it is still attached to the bike by the wires. It is free to move around as I try to break the screws free. I tried hammering on the screwdriver while twisting, but was getting nowhere. Help I don't know where to go from here. Bill
18. A few weeks ago I asked the question about what riders are using for a cover for their radar detectors...if you use one. I now have replaced my radar detector cover, and thought I would share this info with you, as well as pictures...and pictures of my new Radiator Protector Screen. Very short story: about 15 years ago I was using a new Valentine One radar detector on my '97 BMW R1100RT. On one of the rides, from Seattle to San Francisco...I am standing on the side of the Insterstate shaking water out of the speaker hole of my new Valentine One...because the lousy windshield of the R11RT directed rain water straight at the radar detector. If it weren't for Valentine's great warranty, I would have just wasted $ 500.00. Valentine took care of me, and from then on I started using a rain cover for my radar detectors. At first it was just the saran wrap style covers they "used" to sell, that were like miniature shower caps. Then about 6 years ago I bought a real neat cover from LegalSpeeding.com, as they sghowed them and sold them at the Seattle Motorcycle Show. I still sued that same cover for 6 straight years, and it worked...perfectly. Even when transferring my detector from one bike to the next, the detector cover always did its' job. When I decided to put my updated Valentine One on my RSMTD, I thought it would be nice to get a new rain cover...sort of as a present for the radar detector. I went shopping for a new cover, but LegalSpeeding.com no longer carried the same cover. The one they sell now is large, bulky, and butt ugly. I did a thorough search, and found that the one I wanted was sold by the manufacturer out of New Zealand. Currently, there were NO distributors in the USA. I asked a supplier of Long Distance...IronButt rider products if he would start selling these covers. He agreed, and now they are again available to us...at a much lower price. I got my new cover, and again...I love it. It is a thin clear plastic, that snaps together like a tupperware product. It has one hole in the area of the powercord, to allow hook-up of the cord. I can tell you thast this thing is 100 % waterproof, and my previous one that lasted 6 or more years, also lasted through more than 350,000 miles of hard riding. If you are interested, go to: http://www.sampson-sporttouring.com/radar_detector_weatherproof_covers.html Here are some pictures of mine, installed on the bike: As the guys website shows, they have these covers for several models of radar detectors. My point folks...is IF you use a radar detector, these covers will save you LOTS of money by protecting your detector from rain or other elements. Secondly, here are pictures of my new Radiator Protection Screen: I made this myself. It cost me less than $ 13.00. It is made out of a balck painted piece of 2' x 2' sheet metal that I bought from Home Depot. It is very easy to cut to size, fold a bit here and there, and then is attached at one point only, at the very top. I love it, and it does a great job of protecting my radiator. Thanks, Miles
19. still havent found one, who knew this would be the rarest part of the venture if anyone know where there is one or has one for sale let me know please, i also need the chrome rack for it
20. Anyone familar with this gauge and know if anyone that has mounted to a 2nd gen rsv? It seems to cover everything i want, tach, temp and accurate speed.
21. I have the Chatter Box system with the open helmet mike. I got tired of having to replace the foam covers because they either got lost or got chewed up for opening and closing my modular helmet. I ordered the mike cover for a full face but it didn't fit the open helmet mike. I finally got fed up and made my own mike cover. I made the talk into side red so I know which side to turn towards my mouth and I made they other side black so it would kind of blend it the helmet. The black side is elastic material and the red side is a shear polyester material. Here is what it looks like. Ride Happy, Ride Safe
22. i need a right hand saddle bag cover missing on my venture, its a the brown cover with the chrome rack on it, any of you have one your willing to sell?
23. hey all ok leaking clutch fluid from what i can see looks like it coming from hose seal where it attaches to slave valve or valve it self. dont want to take off gear cover yet cause im not sure if there is a gasket on that and i dont have one to put back on if i go to get parts . guess what im getting to is is it a big deal to pop that cover just to see whats going on or just get all parts first then do job. and who has least expensive hose and push valve . ill most likely just change everything any while im in there.
