  1. It may have taken Yamaha to get it right, but they were not the first.
  2. Hi Folks, I think the time has come to sell my 89 VR. Mainly health reasons. Some of you saw her at Dons the past couple of years. 2 tone Burgandy with Harley exhaust. Withalot of help from here on the site I have completed new fork seals and Progressive springs, new rear tire, new brakes, new Fiestick and coax, new AGM battery, complete rear end service including drive shaft, and added Harley Utra Classic exhaust. 32k on her with a lot more in her. I rode to StLouis couple years ago, straight thru and didnt get sore except for the sunburn. I don't have any pics right now and am a novice on how to add one if could but I will try. Its Never been down that I know of , I am the second owner, plastic is very good, paint is sun faded some on the tops. I can take and send pics with my phone if wanted. Please call and we can talk price. Thanks Ron/Pappa Bear
  3. If there is, I'd like to ask for a little of your knowledge. Our son is just starting out airbrushing on motorcycle tanks, helmets, etc, and has asked for a couple of items for Christmas, but I'm a little confused and need your advice. Thanks, Deb
  4. I'm the second owner, '07 RSV. Bike came from a dealer with a battery connection for a battery tender. Small polarizied two wire lead connected to pos. and neg. terminals on the battery, sticks out from under the seat. Riding for 45+ years, have never used a tender. I always removed the battery for winter storage, used a 2 amp charger a couple times over the winter months. For what/where should I look for a battery tender? Seems it would be much easier than removing/reinstalling the battery. I've seen a couple on the internet, but they have the alligator clips, not the small plug-in type connector.
  5. I've had a few emails asking for the dates of my 2011 Maintenance Day in Oberlin, OH. So, I'm going to throw out a couple of dates for your discussion. May 28th is one choice. That is Memorial Day weekend. The good news is that it would give many people an extra day to get back home. There may be some who do other things on Memorial Day weekend though. Your thoughts? The next choices would be either the previous weekend, May 21st or the following weekend, June 4th. My first preference would be Memorial Day weekend as it gives me an extra day to get things somewhat organized again before going back to work. This is open for discussion for a couple of days and then I'll pull the trigger and set the date.
  6. WHERE can i buy or rent a couple of "pygmies". my old back just won't let me do all the things that i need to do. i figure a couple of young , strong, little-us, might just be worth the cost! lol just jt
  7. Noddy (Gord and Laura) from Brandon copied these photos to a disk for a couple folks and asked me to download them here. http://s45.photobucket.com/home/sarges46/recentuploads
  8. We had been there for several hours. Kids were getting tired, time to go home and get some dinner. We didn't get to go through it all. If we did, probably would have a couple hundred more pics. password is hotrod enjoy http://s215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Places/James%20Dean%202010/
  9. Debating wheter to sell the 86 or strip and sell parts on ebay.Decisions,decisions.The 84 will be stripped in a couple months.
  10. Was out window-shopping on ebay earlier and ran across a couple of real nice looking old XS11's. I don't think I've seen any that looked quite this good before. If they were a couple thousand miles closer I might even be interested in one for a backup ride if the bids didn't get too much higher. There's a blue 1980 here, and a 1978 Midnight Special here.
  11. Enroute to PIP and ...DOH! I forgot that I don't have my drivers seat tightened. Well, you can guess what happened. It's somewhere along hy 37 in Iowa! Looked, but no luck. At a rest stop now with free WiFi! Woo hoo! Any chance there is a spare 2nd gen seat on it's way to PIP? I have a couple seat pads that I can use, Dee says Thank God it was my seat and not hers LOL. See you all there Thursday or Friday!

    New guy with questions

I have been riding motorcycles since I was 20 years old back in 1967. I have almost always ridden standard bikes like a Triumph Tiger 650, a BMW R79/6 (I think!) a Honda Shadow, and now a 2000 Sportster 1200 Custom. My wife no longer drives her own bike, and I have been selfish for the last few years and haven't given up my HD to get something she can ride on behind me. My search for a truly comfy bike has led here. Every review seems to say the same couple of things - the bike is super comfortable, smooth and powerful - and weighs a TON! I am 63 in pretty good shape, but am I getting in over my head here? I'm 6ft even, and weigh about 260. Can I handle this beautiful monster?
  13. Hey guys, got a problem I hope y'all can help me with. I've got a set of J&M headsets in Nolen helmets. I am quite pleased with them so far, however today when riding I noted I was getting engine noise (static) through the headset. It wasn't "terrible" but was darn annoying. Anyway, while i was stopped I went to adjust the intercom volume. when I hooked my headset back up I immediately encounted an Unbelievable LOUD SHRIEK!!!! The volume of this was NOT affected by the volume control (at least that i could figure out. I disconnected/reconnect a couple times with NO luck in making it go away. I was running late for home so I disconnected and highballed back to the house. Anyway, does anybody have any ideas/suggestion concerning resolving these issues? I'd really appreciate it! THANKS!!!
  14. any suggestions on places to winter in the south from the Mississippi west? Wife doesn`t like humidity so Texas is questionable...looking for something like a park model trailer to rent for a couple of months in a safe location, smaller cities are better than large, good riding roads a must:301:
  15. I hadn't seen this guy since high school, but the thing that got to me was that he was exactly where I would have been on my way home at about exactly the same time, if I hadn't taken a detour to the local Harley shop. I knew him when we were kids, and he came to the house to look at a bike we had for sale a couple of years ago. I was at work at the time, but my wife talked to him and let him ride the bike. The road he was on is always slow moving due to traffic. Especially at that time of day. It can happen any time. Be careful out there. It was a red Harley, and my wife got a couple of calls from her daughter and a friend asking if she had talked to me that evening (Tuesday) so she called me to make sure it wasn't me. http://www.wbir.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=131720&odyssey=mod_mostread
  16. I got a chance to take a couple of days off and make a four day weekend trip with my Wife's blessing. A couple of buddies and I rode from Atlanta to Cleveland to the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. We took I 75 and I 71 up but on the way back rode I 77 through Ohio, West Virginia and Virginia; what a beautiful ride. Those of you who live in that part of the country sure have some fantastic scenery. I also stopped at an 1890 farm house museum and took a couple of pictures of the Venture. I don't comment much on the site but I do read almost daily and just wanted to say when traveling it is nice to know there is such a support group available if you have trouble. Anyway just wanted to share a little of my ride with you. I'll attempt to upload some pictures. This is my first Venture, a 2006. I've owned it about a year and have put about 8K miles so far. I have a Golwing and have really enjoyed it but I have to say the Ventue is a Hoss and a true pleasure to ride.
  17. We have officially named the ride, "The Naked Biker Run", August 28th, register anytime between now and then, 15 per couple per bike, or 10 per person, we have tentative destinations, (last year we ran along highway 35 for part of the ride), TSG (titanium snailglazers) are playing that night, free food and more, still got some kinks to work out though...um we are leaving at noon from The Construction Zone Bar & Grill. I and my better half have a hotel room reserved for the 27th & 28th at the Cobblestone Inn & Suites in Durand, which only a couple blocks or so from the Zone. So if anybody would like to join us, your more than welcome. Hope to see some of ya there, Bill
  18. Well, I hate to do it, but I am letting my bikes go. I travel 5 days a week x 48 weeks a year now for work and haven't been on the bike for - well... way too long. I have an 86 Venture Royal that is in need of a paint job (replaced body parts with donors of other colors) and an 87 Venture Royal which I found neglected and brought in to revive and get it back on the road. The 87 has now had the carbs rebuilt and been repainted a beautiful pure white and I have been slowly putting it back together. (It takes a lot longer to do these things when you are only home a couple days a week.) I am sure I will get another bike in the future but it will be something I don't have to work on and all I need to do is ride it. So... if any of you know someone looking for a couple of 1st Gens, let me know. I know it doesn't count if I don't have pics, but I will get them on here soon.
  19. Yesterday while doing some practice riding through cones, I stopped to move the cones. I restarted the bike and when I hit the start button I heard a loud pop and could actually feel a slight jerk in the handlebars. I turned the bike off and started it a couple more times. Each time it would make the Pop sound and start just fine. I drove home and restarted a couple more times and it still popped each time. After sitting for a half an hour or so tried a I started it a couple more times and the pop did not happen. What's up?
  20. One more call for riders attending Sturgis 2010: I will be heading to the Black Hills in a couple of days...Planning on leaving Amarillo Thursday morning, the 5th of August. I'm riding with a couple friends, but the more the merrier. We plan on making it to Cheyenne WY by Thursday night. Expecting to arrive at Glencoe Campground Friday afternoon or evening. Anyone else attending? We could get together for a meet-n-eat or a beer somewhere...I plan on staying in South Dakota until sometime the following Friday or Saturday. Let me know! You can reply here but in a couple days, you can text or call me at 806-252-1743, since I will be on the road. The cell will of course be in the saddlebag, so just leave a message.
  21. take a look at some of these designs. http://biertijd.com/mediaplayer/?itemid=21979 don't know what your rider may think of a couple of the "swankier" designs !!!
  22. No real agenda for my wife and I...prolly going to ferry across from Victoria to Port Angeles in a day or so. From there we are heading south on the 101. This was day one: http://members.shaw.ca/rsxer/trip.jpg Hanging out in Vancouver for a couple days...
  23. Looks like we will finally be making the trip to Yellowstone and beyond in about six weeks! I know that it will be a little late in the year for some of the places that we want to see but it is just not possible for me to take off in the middle of the summer for that long. I would like to see if anyone who has made this trip can reccommend any must see places along the way. Neither one of us has ever been out that far and we would like to see and do as much as possible while there. We will be leaving here on the 17th of september and planning to be back on the 2nd of october. Hope to be able to go all the way up to Glacier Natl Park then head on back. If the weather doesn't cooperate we may have to alter those plans. Will probably run a couple of long days at first to try and get at least into Colorado then we will sort of play it by ear, if we find a place where we would like to spend a couple of days I don' want to be on such a tight schedule that it would be difficult. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Murph
  24. There are six of us heading from Windsor to Colorado on the 9th of Aug and intend to take 3 or 4 days getting there, we have 3 weeks to explore the state and would like to get some info on camp grounds in the N, central and SE. We will be doing the Northern rides, then down to the SE. There are a couple of camp grounds that seem pretty good, one around Dolores...Priest Gulch....and Durango...Riverside Resort& RV....any help or suggestions that anyone may have would be appreciated. Ian
  25. Not being totally familiar with the RSV (Yet) I know that the bike needs a oil change, wont get into the oil stuff, but do need to know what a cross number or Filter number would be. The closest Stealer is 75 or so miles away. The previous owner didn't offer up to much except it needed an oil change, and had 3 Qt's of oil for me. Basically I forgot to ask what had been done when,,,. Being as I will have it down to the frame here in a couple of weeks I plan on doing plugs, and some wiring tidying up etc, checking things out. I have a shop manual in PDF that will help on most of what I need to look at and do forward of the seat. The back I have down pretty good....
