  1. Printer has been out of ink because I just don't have the $68.00 to by the 5 cartridge pack of ink. Seen on e-bay a company in California selling a compatible 5 pack with chips for $10.80 and free shipping so I decided to give them a try. They arrived today, so I installed them, did the print tests and printed out a couple of things. They seem to work great. If they don't last as long as the Cannons I can buy 6 sets of these for the price of 1 set of the Cannons. Just so they don't damage the printer.
  2. I did the stator and starter clutch on my 89. I had a moment as they say, I didn't appreciate the difficulty posed by the re installation of the shifter linkage. I convinced myself that I had it right a couple of times. I was wrong. If anyone can grab a few photos from a few different angles, it would be a big help. I appreciate the help. Thanks to you all.
  3. I am having a couple issues with my bike that I would like some input on. The first is a "popping" sound when the bike is cold, sounds like a bad exhaust gasket but only last for the first few minutes when I start it then goes away. Second is a small backfire through the carbs when shifting from 2nd to 3rd and on up but almost never from 1st to second. Third bad fork seals from factory? My new fork seals seem to be leaking already with less than 100 miles on them. And lastly are the turn signals. They are weird, blink 3 times then a pause then blink 3 times then pause and so on, any ideas? This is quite a list but any help would be rather appreciated. My wife found an 87 for $1000 but I refuse to give up on this old scoot. Shaun
  4. I have just purchased a 99 Royal Star Venture. It is loaded and looks great. Has 43,000 miles and runs smooth at idle. It has a vibration when under load (riding) and goes away when I reduce the throttle. I am coming off a 2002 Road Star from the past 3 years and have only had the new bike out a couple of times and am not used to it. Has anyone had the same issue or can share a similar experiance? srm.
  5. My son Josh and I received our 1st degree brown belts in Tae Kwon Do this past week. The next step will be black belt.Josh shouldn't have any problem but I'm not getting any younger so I've got to get there as soon as I can. Here's a couple of pics, the last one is my teacher going thru some cement blocks.
  6. Well I stopped by HD in burlington today looking at new boots. AS I looked around I noticed that they have chrome tips for fenders. I measured a couple and then my fender when I got home and they have a plain chrome fender tip that will fir first gen ventures. Just thought I would share. Shaun
  7. Greetings again fellow Venturers ! In 2009 I met a very nice couple at „Freebirds Maintenance Day“ and we started talking. They asked if I was taking the bike back to Iceland and I told them no, but it was getting a little bit to expensive to store it in Woddstock/Bearsville NY at a repair shop (600 US$ + a year ) so I would have to figure out another way. This nice couple then told me that they lived in East Pensylvania about two hours from JFK and that they could possiblie store the bike for me if I wanted. I did write down their name but when I got home from the trip I had lost the note. So,,,I am hoping that they will read this and get in contact with me. It is prettty far fetched but I am hoping that they will stumble upon this. The only description I have is that they were both around 40 to 50 years old and very pleasant. If anybody in the club knows this couple by this detailed (hmmm,,,) description above or have any suggestions then please let me know. Apart from the bike storage I would very much want to get in touch with them again. Friendly regards from Iceland, StarFan Jonas Th. Lilliendahl and Margret S. Bjornsdottir jonaslill@istak.is
  8. I'm thinking hard about adding another bike or trading my Road Star and I was pretty much decided on a Yamaha Roadliner or Stratoliner; but then I started researching the Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 and it's definitely in the mix now. I was just wondering if anyone has owned both or had a chance to ride both to compare them in power, riding position and comfort. I've been on a Liner a couple of times and would be happy with one but I'm understanding that the Vulcan gives a little more room to stretch out and a lower seat height. Anyone?
  9. I successfuly replaced the hot water heater after 3 trips to the hardware store, aqnd while In was at it I routed a Cat5e cable to the blue ray player in the bedroom so I can have internet access to the player. Managed to fall on the ice and bumped my thick skull. Now my back hurts and my neck too!! I need a new desktop computer, I renewed my anti virus, downloaded the software and it quit in the middle of installing and now it won't access the internet! Oh well, the darn thing is about 8 years old or so, and waaaaay obsolete. BJ's has a $50 off sale on a HP and I have a credit card with Zero interest until next Feb. My electric razor broke yesterday but I found another one on Fleabay for around $40 new so I'm happy. Been sort of a mix of good/bad the last couple of days...
  10. The wife and I are heading to Ashevilee Sunday. She needs to get some pics of the biltmore from the outside for her final project of this sumester. We plan on being there sometime before lunch. Anybody want to go? Let me know Ill be in and out of here a couple times tonight to check and probably once or twice tomorrow. So give me a shout and we c an make arangements. David
  11. It's very likely that I'll be selling my '07 RSV and Unigo trailer very soon. I haven't decided if I'll sell them as a package deal or separately. I'll know more this weekend after I talk with a couple of dealers. I'll post to the classifieds when I get the details ironed out. Here are a couple of photos. Dennis
  12. Guy goes into a bar and after a couple of drinks, a rather attractive lady came in and sat down beside him. They got to talking and after a couple more drinks. she leaned over and whispered in his ear, "I just wanted you to know that I'm bi". his first thought was, "Hmmm, now this could be interesting". Until he figured out what "polar" meant. RandyA
  13. I recently purchased a 1986 Yamaha Venture, and am looking for a couple of things that it lacks from my previous Wing. Driver floorboards for one (with the heel / toe shifter) and a set of arm rests (folding if available) for the wife's seat. I've seen pics of bikes that have the boards, but am unable to locate any information on them. Granted, 25 years is too long for folks like Markland to keep stuff on their shelves, but if anyone has ANY information on MFG.'s or where to look, I'd appreciate it. A couple of other things I want to ask but hesitate since they will make me look REAL stupid. the cover on the left side of the fairing, over the radio, is that supposed to slide? Also, the previous owner has a baggie full of "intercom" equipment that is to be placed in our helmets. He never used them, and has no clue on how they work. Owners manual is also wrecked (ALL the pages are stuck together!) and I'm having no luck finding one on the web either. Any help will be appreciated! Tom Plaska
  14. Does anybody have one? I want to look up a couple of serial numbers for time frame of when they were made.
  15. I got a new to me bike today, and I am so excited. I've been looking for one of these for the past few years, and finally found and bought a really good looking one today. It's a 1988 Honda NX250, a great little dual purpose ride. I got it from the second owner with all the original paperwork, 2 original keys, Owner's Manual and Service Manual and even a few extra parts. And it seems to be in great shape. I only rode it about 20 miles today, and it was just plain fun. One reason I'm so excited is I actually had 2 of these same bikes back in 1988. I won them on the "Price Is Right" in '88. I kept both of them for quite awhile, and then sold one and kept the other another couple years or so. Thinking back, I don't know why I sold it. More recently I've been looking for a good one for about 4 years now. This one came up on Craig's List a couple days ago, I finally had a chance to go see it earlier today, and now it's mine..... ....and my son's. He's 17 and this will be a great bike for him to start off on. I love my RSV and it's a daily rider for me, but I think I will be doing more puttin around town stuff on the little Honda. Now let's see about sharing some photos.
  16. how can I tell if my atv is in need of a major redo ? I own a 97 honda 300 fourtrax. Cranks and runs good but seems that it is loosing a little power.Alos when I crank it iif it has been a couple of dayssince the last frie up it will 4smoke blue four a few seconds. LOnger if its set longer since it was run. Im not a mechanic so anyhting that I can check with simple tools will be appreciated. When I first got it it was extremely cold natured and was hard to start. A couple of tanks dosed with seafome stopped that. Any help would be apreciated David Ps. If there are any atv mechanics close by and willing to help Ill pay.
  17. Just wondering if we still get a 10% discount from Ride-on when we order from them? Has anyone ordered from them lately or know of anyone that might have a couple of bottles the would like to sell?
  18. I found a couple of White Wall Dunlop at Motorcycle Superstorm for $211.98. Are they good folks to deal with? If anyone has dealt with them?
  19. Hello again everyone. I've been gone for a while, and thought I should share what's been going on. It's been a difficult couple of years, with good news and bad news. A few months before buying our RSV, my wife started having unexplained pain in her legs. It got worse and worse, and eventually she couldn't stand or walk for more than a couple of minutes. Unable to work, she lost her job. After 2 years and close to 100 doctor appointments and tests at multiple hospitals and other medical centers, we still have no diagnosis. We don't know what it is. We just know what it isn't. And without a root cause, there is no way to fix it. Anyway, that's the reason we've been missing and our riding was so limited, even before we went missing. The good news: We had a break through of sorts. We still don't know the cause of the pain, but one of the spine doctors suggested a specialized device to help mask the pain. She had the surgery about 3 months ago and is doing much, much better. We even went out on a couple of short rides on the RSV! The bad news is that I don't see Venture-type (longer) rides anytime soon. The RSV is spending most of it's life just sitting in the garage, and I don't know how long that will continue. So, we've decided to sell it. If things continue to improve, we might get something smaller in the spring just to do short rides, and hopefully we can meet up with the GA group again for breakfasts or lunches or something. We enjoyed your company and comaraderie very much in the times we've shared with you.
  20. Here is a pic of the view from our dining room window this morning. I counted nine but there may have been more than that. They played out there, having a good old time running back and forth for a couple of hours.
  21. Know this has been here but was just looking again. Someone from Griffin Georgia has a ton of 1st Gen parts listed. Look OK but he didn't get a nibble. Check his shipping costs. About twice what the parts are worth on top end. I would have bid on a couple of those. But I'm probally wrong. I'll just go back to my corner.
  22. A friend of mine has this bike, and the gas tank "collapsed inward" - then mostly popped back out - but there is still a visiable dent of there. Does anyone know if a) a dent repair place can fix that type of thing (being it is a gas tank would that hurt the integrity of the tank) - b) is that gas tank interchangable with another STAR model gas tank (I believe it is the smaller 3.8 gallon tank). I have looked on EBAY for her, only couple of scratched up tanks, just trying to gather couple of ideas. Sorry, at the moment, I don't have a picture of this problem. Any ideas / suggestions would be helpful - thank you in advance.
  23. My '07 RSV won first place at the Penelope hhouse bike and car show a couple weeks ago. I forgot to post about it. That was first place overall. '07 RSV was the only non HD in the show.
  24. Our Granddaughter MaryAlice was with us this Halloween weekend. So of course we took her trick or treating. Thought I'd share a couple of pictures of her. How about showing your little Trick or Treaters!
  25. I admit that I've been out of the loop for a couple of decades. But, during the last couple of months since I've been back up on two wheels, I've noticed something I'd like to ask about. Most of the time when I meet another bike (or bikes) going the opposite direction on the highway, I get a one fingered gesture. No...not that one! It's like they point (forefinger) at the center divider. Like they wanna make sure I know where it is or something. My assumption is that it is an acknowledgment of some sort. Now, this may be a regional thing, but can anyone enlighten me?
