  1. "Drafting Guys Over 60" This is funny& obviously written by a former soldier... New Direction for any war: Send Service Vets over 60! I am over 60 and the Armed Forces thinks I'm too old to track down terrorists. You can't be older than 42 to join the military. They've got the whole thing bass-backwards. Instead of sending 18-year old's off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn't be able to join a military unit until you're at least 55. For starters, researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy. Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. 'My back hurts! I can't sleep, I'm tired and hungry.' We are impatient and maybe letting us kill somebody that desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for awhile.. An 18-year-old doesn't even like to get up before 10am. Old guys always get up early to pee, so what the hell. Besides, like I said, I'm tired and can't sleep and since I'm already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical son-of-a-gun. If captured, we couldn't spill the beans because we'd forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser. Boot camp would be easier for old guys.. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we're used to soft food. We've also developed an appreciation for guns. We've been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house, Away from the screaming and yelling. They could lighten up on the obstacle course however... I've been in combat and never saw a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, Nor did I ever do any pushups After completing basic training. Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too... I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet. An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to start a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn't figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head. These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm's way. Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten coward terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple million pissed off old buggers with attitudes and automatic weapons, Who know that their best years Are already behind them. HEY!! How about recruiting Women over 50...In menopause!!! You think MEN have attitudes?? Ohhhhhhhhhhhh my God!!! If nothing else, put them on border patrol. They'll have it secured the first night! Send this to all of your senior friends...it's in big type so they can read it.
  2. Bought the MCT from a forum member in the spring...I have had the trailer out a couple of times in the last few weeks getting use to it behind the RSV before taking off for South Dakota on the 3rd......Last weekend I noticed the right tire on the trailer was low/almost flat.....Filled it up to 55lbs and this AM noticed it was flat again. These are basically NEW tires...Previous owner never used the trailer...Ran some H2O over the tire and found a small..and I mean small leak in the middle of the tread...pinhole almost...Took it to get it plugged and an inside patch..Did I say me and the wife are L leaving for South Dakota on the 3rd) Question ???...in looking a the tire I noticed that these Stock Tires are 2 ply...I am concerned that if it picked up something this easy on a couple of test drives...Should I go out and invest in some 6 ply tires?.....Can pick up a couple at Tractor Supply for about $90-$100... I do have a spare in case one of the stock tires picks something up during the trip...... Long Tall Lynchburg, VA
  3. Had anyone else experienced a hissing noise with the EBC HH brake pads? I just put mine on a couple weeks ago and they hiss when applying the rear brake?
  4. Ok the venture has a broke u-joint and the bolt holding the bottom half of the rear shock is out and caused a couple other problems. I might be back on the road in 10 days or so! Phill
  5. NEWTrk (Phil) my husband has been talking for a couple of years about triking out his venture and yesterday he did it. He really did it. He put down his deposit for the Hannigan trike kit and in a couple of months it will all be over with and he'll be grinning from ear to ear. Look out here he comes - next will be retirement and then 48 states in 60 days...
  6. To start off here I want to thank Condor & Lone Eagle & whomever their helpers were for a great International Rally this year. It wasn't only a great location chosen but a well run one from start to finish. Least ways it sure looked like it but I'm sure they'll say otherwise. :clap2:Good job guys. Well it looks like we were the last to arrive back home. Got in late afternoon yesterday in fact. It was great seeing old friends and meeting new ones as is the case in most of these rallies & M&E's we go to. Unfortunately for me I didn't get to ride much or hang out with everyone as much as I would of liked to. That due to me pulling a muscle in my back while en route to Cody. Bad enough to require a side trip to the ER in Sioux Falls for medicial relief. I did manage to get in a couple day rides, one to Cooke City vie the Chief Joseph highway and another from West Yellowstone to the south entrance of Yellowstone & back (after the rally was over), besides a a couple short rides in town during the rally. Going back again is going to be on my bucket list as thats such a great part of country to ride a bike in. I'll post up what few pics I managed to take later. Lots to do here to get caught up after being gone 2 1/2 weeks. Stacks of mail (hopefully mostly junk mail), yard work, etc Larry
  7. Help, please. How in the heck do you get to the Member Vendor threads. I'm trying to get to Rick Butler and Carbon 1 's ads and contact info. I'm apparently not doing something right, I guess. I'd like to get my seat redone and a couple of things from Carbon 1. Any help would be appreciated Thanks, Steve
  8. Well after about 4,600 miles a couple of weeks and a couple of days we made it (ground zero). The house still stands the pets are alive and other than a few dead flowers every thing is good in da hood. Wow did we see some country and a fantastic rally and again the Venture Riders are the best people to be found ANYWHERE......... Will post more after we settle in.
  9. For almost a year my battery goes down after a couple of days of not riding. I have added running lights, led tail lights, air horn, auxilary plug in and maybe a couple more items over time. I don't know whats drawing the battery down and an electrician I ain't. How can I test to see what is causing this problem?
  10. I wonder if there is a slightly lower windshield than stock for my 07 venture, oem or otherwise. I think I would like it to be a couple of inches lower. Have considered cutting it down but it is quite scratched up anyway. Any advice??
  11. Not sure if this is where this belongs, but I thought I'd post it up here. I recently installed an RSV seat on my 06 RSTD. It would have been much more difficult without the help of this site and a couple members. First off, I'd like to thank jemorrisonjr for being one of the first to PM me an offer help and parts. Great guy, if you haven't talked with him you should. I'd also like to thank Freebird for having such a good, informative site for Royal Stars. It's the best I've found. I'm not going to bore you with technical details, but the information I received here on doing this modification was spot-on and saved me some headaches. And the tech articles have on a couple modifications I've done. So I figured I'd post up a picture of my finished results. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f353/KoolKwad400/IMG_0215.jpg So again, thank you so much for the help, thanks for this site, and thanks to the members who offered help or wrote technical threads. You've all been a great help. M

  14. Will anyone have a laptop that I could periodically borrow (for a few minutes) - and if so, what kind? I have to figure couple of things out - and asking in advance as I am not that computer literate. Thanks, everyone.
  15. Are there ANY US members near the east end of Lake Ontario willing to help me out. I'm thinking I want to leave my bike trailer at your place for a couple of weeks, during which time I will take it apart. Then I will import trailer "parts" in 2 different trips. Anybody willing to help?
  16. Here are some photos I took this weekend. There are a couple of Ventures; I wondered if they are members here. Yama Mama
  17. 24 DAYS TO GO - CAN WE LEAVE YET? Exciting times and travel are just a few days away. You won't want to miss this - and for those pre-registered, really look forward to meeting you all in Cody. If you haven't registered and are considering attending, please contact me ASAP via PM - or better via my e-mail victortibbs@comcast.net . I will be placing the t-shirt order this weekend so they are ready in time for the rally, we will have couple of extra shirts (operative word couple) - at the rally, if we ran out I am sure we could get some more made up. If you still aren't sure you can make it, and find out at the last minute you can, please come - we can accomodate everyone!!!! Let the good times roll!!!!!!!
  18. wan·der·lust   [won-der-luhst] –noun a strong, innate desire to rove or travel about. We have been home from our ~6700 mile cross-country ride for 1 full week now... and I have already been looking at maps for a couple of days trying to figure out "where next". If there is a halfway house for this kind of thing... maybe I will wave as I go by.
  19. I stopped by to see a customer today in Knox, PA. While talking, I noticed a picture of a '68 Plymouth Roadrunner convertible on the wall beside his desk. I asked him if that was one that he wished he had kept and he said...Heck...I still have it. Turns out that he is a big Mopar fan. He asked if I wanted to see some old cars and of course I did. We ended up walking through 3 buildings full of early to late 60 Mopars and a couple of early 70 models. This was a very nice guy dressed in Dickie's work clothes and you would think that he was just any regular guy but he had probably close to a million dollars worth of cars in those buildings. Not junk...NICE cars. Most were in very nice original condition or very lightly restored. He had 2 Roadrunner convertibles, 2 beautiful Superbirds, a number of early sixty Satellites, 300's, etc. A couple of early 70 Challengers and several other great cars. All had original engines and most were 383, 440, etc. It was a real treat to walk through and see the cars, sit in them and remember the muscle cars from my teen years. You just never know what you are going to run into.
  20. Hey there VentureWingers. I've got two different types of risers for passenger floorboards for the wing for sale. We tried a number of combinations before we found what worked best for my wife. Both items are in "as new" condition and are considerably less than new cost. They are listed in the "Accessories for all bikes" category (Maybe we need a GW accessories section?). Anyway, if you're looking for something to help make your better half more comfortable, here's a couple options for you! If nobody here is interested in a few days I'll post 'em on a GW site, but thought I'd give my Venturerider buddies first shot. Dwayne
  21. Anyone coming to DC for this? If so I'd love to see if we could get together for lunch and you'd be more than welcome to ride with myself, the missus and a couple others. As always, I have a guest room as well if lodging is an issue as long as you don't mind dogs! Csogbk
  22. I've been off work this week burning last of my vacation time for the year. As it's been a dreary week, cloudy and raining most the time I've spent a lot of time in the garage working on little things on the bike. Last of all a new set of pads all the way around. I'll post a couple of pics on that story later. LOL! Got my moneys worth out of the last set for sure. But I figured it was NOT raining today so a trip out to check the bike and seat the new pads would be a good thing. Almost ended up poorly. I rode for a few hours and stopped by my store to pickup my security keys for Monday. Stopped and BS'd for a while with some co-workers and they followed me outside when I was leaving to look at the bike. As we talked I was gearing up, armored jacket, leather gloves and the full face helmet and they were giving me static about all the gear, as usual. I just laughed it off and said "Parking lots are the most dangerous place for a biker." Not all that far off really ya know. I had just pulled away from them and as I turned into a lane through the lot I saw two sets of brake lights light up in two cars across from each other and as quick as the lights came on the backup lights lit up also. I hit the brakes and stopped as fast as I could. (YEA!! New pads!) Both cars shot out of their parking spots and met with a pretty good impact that crushed both rear quarters, folded the bumpers and sent pieces of taillight flying everywhere......all about 3 feet in front of where I sat. WoW! Cool! My co-workers came running over as I put down the side stand a waited for the cars to decide what they were going to do. All I could do was laugh and say, "See, what did I just tell ya!" Both drivers left their cars where they were and got out. A couple of Blue Hairs. You know... the ones that do 15 mph under the limit in a 25 mph zone. They had more speed backwards than they do going forward. They decided to exchange info before moving the cars out of the way. Now they are moving at the speed of mud as they do this. I'm just shaking my head and laughing. So the Cager Club Sandwich ..... Hold the Yamaha, makes sense now right? So where does the "Dip" come in? That would the three cars that pulled into the lane behind me, RIGHT behind me a felt the need to sit there and lay on the horns. Dips would be a nice term for them. I had a couple of other names for them but nobody would want that with a sandwich. I'm not a lil fella at 6'3" and dressed in full gear. I pulled my helmet off and walked back to each car and made my statment, "Ya'll back your a$$ up and go on your way. NOW!!" That worked, I love that Bambi in the headlights look, I really do. Some people say I have a nice smile. My daughter says it looks like I'm showing my teeth. Well, whatever, the effect works. LOL! So the lil old Blue Hairs both came over and asked me if I saw what happened. They both were fishing for a witness. "Yep, I did. And if either one of you contact me to be a witness I will gladly come to court and be a witness for the OTHER driver. You both screwed up!" So that sort of set the whole thing off and I was starting to see a remake of the famous Star Wars lightsaber fight with a couple of Yoda Blue Hairs and canes. Eww! So I rolled back and made my way out of the lot. Slowly. Safely. Back to the safe harbour of my garage. Ahh, Home. So folks, keep your eyes moving in the parking lots ok. Things happen fast in very little space. A few more feet and at best, I would have been rebuilding my front forks ....again. Ya see that Earl!!! Won't be needing anymore parts for a while! Ya'll ride safe, Mike
  23. The VentureRider International Rally in Cody is coming up sooner than we realize. I'm so looking forward to the opportunity to ride in this great part of our country but mostly I'm excited to see so many of the friends I've been able to get to know through this site, whether we've met in person already or will soon do so. We've received a couple of emails about the t-shirts that will be available as part of the Rally and realized we haven't shared the final design....oops!! So, here it is...... If you haven't registered, now's the time to do it! See you in Cody!! Dave
  24. I've just run out of time folks. I was working on a design and have it pretty much done but by the time I post here for orders, get the totals, get them ordered and etc., I just don't have time to get it all done. Sorry about that. The past couple of months have just been WAY to busy for me. I promise to get started on the earlier next year and we will have them again.
  25. I lost one of the screws for the side cover. Part # 90149-06298-00 I have found a couple of suppliers but some want $13 to ship a $1.44 part. Are they any places with reasonable shipping for a couple of these? Its a real pain searching because most of them you have to set up an account to find out what the shipping charges are. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
