1. Just a quick note, Big Mike is selling his 2000 RSV with 30,000 for 6700.00 . I think he will go down a couple hundred. Its on craigslist here in MIchigan . think his number is still here in his profile.
2. Sorry to ask this and yes I know there is a sheet but for some reason my Microsoft Office has a problem and will not open it. Anyway I need the filter number for a RSV I wanted to cross it over but can't so if someone could give me maybe the Napa # and maybe a couple more I would appreciate it. Thanks Rick
3. Here are a couple pictures of my new trike...and new grandson. Bigbob
4. I got a water leak under the house. It's on the back side which is low to the ground.I use to get under there fine but now I don't fit. So my options are 1. Dig a ditch to crawl in. 2.Jack up the house. 3.Loose some weight and try it in a couple months. 4. Hire a skinny plumber. I wonder why the electric bill increased. The submersible pump is running more often. This honey dooo list never gets finished.
5. Looking for a tan seat that came on Millenium edition, 2nd gen (I think). If you run across one...let me know. I found one In Janesville Wi craigslist...but seller hasn't contacted back in a couple weeks. I'm really just looking for the tan color...non-fluffy, could be used corbin touring too. Thanks,
6. Barb and I got home Friday night from a 15 day, 3500 miles long trip. We rode down to the southern tip of Illinois and visited friends, then the 4 of us rode to Nashville. Our friends left for home, and we continued to our daughter's house near Mufreesboro TN. A couple of days with the grandsons, and also took our son-in-laws new Concours for a ride---but it started to rain pretty hard right after I left, so I headed back home. Nice bike though, sure is fast. We left our daughter's house and headed to Cleveland TN, where he jumped on some of the back roads. When we were enjoying the Cherohala Skyway when we came up on an old motorcycle doing all it could to climb the grade. We passed him and noticed that it was a 2 cylinder flathead V, but that's all I could tell for sure. We pulled off on the next overlook, and the other rider did also. It turned out that the bike was a 1919 Indian Scout, and the guy was touring on it!!! We continued on the skyway and turned onto North Carolina 129 just a bit south of where it becomes the Dragon. When we got to the Dragon, there were very few bikes (it was almost 6PM on a Tuesday), and that the police were running hand held radar further north near the straight section by the lake. There was one Venturerider.org member on a red 2006 Venture (I've forgoten his name...sorry). We still enjoyed another trip down the Dragon, or at least as much as you can with an 89 Venture 2 up and the bags packed to capacity. We never saw the cops, but because of the time of day probably they probably gave it up. We had dinner at a neat restaurant called "Hearth and Kettle Restaurant" (great food and prices and a sign by the register that reads "You never see a motorcycle parked in a Psychiatrists parking lot"). Then we rode through Pidgeon Forge and spent the night in Gatlinburg. It started to rain lightly just as we got to town, but we didn't get too wet. In the morning we walked around Galtlinburg and also rode the loop north of town---beautiful. Then we headed south to Cherokee N.C. and then southward on back roads to Hendersonville N.C. and then south into S. Carolina to meet up with Barb's cousin and his wife. They ride a new BMW 1600 GTL. We rode around with them on his favorite back roads, and then loaded both bikes back up and headed for Charleston S.C. On the way to Charleston, his legs started cramping on the BMW and he wanted to try our Venture, so we swapped for a bit. This was our 2nd ride on a BMW, we test rode one last year. The one last year had the short seat on it and it was terrible. This one had the tall seat, but actually it was only a little better. After 50 miles, I my butt was telling me that it wanted the good old Venture back. As I said last year, the BMW has tons of power, great brakes, and handling. The throttle by wire makes it a bit awkward to start without slipping the clutch too much or killing the engine. Something I noticed on this ride is that there is a lot of drive-line lash that makes itself known with a big "CLUNK" whenever you back off the throttle or roll it back on---way more than the Yammie. We got to Charleston ok, and the 4 of us plus Barb's other cousin and his wife (who live in Charleston) had a great visit with lots of laughs. Barb and I rode up to Myrtle Beach for the bike show on Saturday---it was mostly Harleys with a couple of Gold Wings and some crotch rockets thrown in for good measure. The only Venture I saw there was mine. On Sunday morning, we headed down to Hilton Head to see how the rich folks live and then south into Georgia. On Monday morning we rode south and touched Florida just east of the Okefenokee swamp. Then we headed up to Atlanta and visited other family for a couple of days. My cousin told me about Georgia route 52 between Elijah and Chatsworth. A beautiful road to ride if you are in the area. We headed up into TN. and spent a couple of days at our daughters again and headed home Friday. It was a great vacation and trip. We saw a lot of beautiful scenery, rode a lot of curvy roads, and the bike ran great. Even with a tropical depression off the coast near Charleston the most rain we had to deal with was a few drops on the windshield and then it was gone. Now it rained a couple of times hard, but we were stopped for the night already or we were at our daughter's house. Many times on this trip I looked up and gave thanks. Frank D.
7. I am new to the RSTD, couple of months on an '06. Love the bike, except the seat and that is going to repaired soon, and the pipes. It has the 4-2-4 Big Nasty's on it and is just too loud for MY taste. I picked up a set of RK mufflers, had 500 miles on them, for $20.00 yesterday. I know I will need a bracket. I have all of hte clamps, just need a bracket. I have a pretty well equipped shop and can build one if I had the dimensions. Can someone give me the length and bolt spacing needed? I know it has a couple of bends that I can work out. Would sure appreciate the help. Barry
8. Thanks to a 3 day weekend I only have 2 items left to go before I can take her for a spin. I spent the last 3 days working on putting her all back together. Had to take some parts off a couple of times because I missed putting a couple of things on..........very frustrating. Waiting on the rear master brake cyl, and the throttle cables to arrive, hopefully I will be riding it next weekend, short little spins at first, but everything works like it should, ran it through the gears while up on the center stand and she shifts as good if not better than when I got her 8 years ago. I have never owned a bike this long, and have never taken the engine apart and changed a tranny, not really hard, but I dont want to do it again. Got lots of help from the tech section here, and help from some very helpful members.
9. Never mind me. Just trying a couple things,
10. Where can one find a shim set for a 85 royale, I have the tool and a couple of shims the previous owner gave me but would like the kit. Thanks
11. Friends went away for 3 weeks and we were taking care of the house, feeding the cats etc. They bought me back a couple fo tee shirts from Daytona Bike week and this metal plaque. They are nice EXCEPT they are harleys Can you say "ride therapy"?
12. I bought a water proof case for my GPS to mount on my handlebar studs (Snagglestuds! Shameless I know). Clamp mount works good, case fits fine, BUT the slip connection is not a lock type that snaps on, just friction. Now I'm not a fan of grabbing at things as they come loose. So some sort of lanyard was going to be needed to be fashioned in case, just in case that puppy popped off. I was at the store today and I passed one of those bargin bins that had a bunch of those stretchy straps with the slider that slip over the ends of the ear pieces of your glasses to hang them around your neck for .50 cents. Well the light popped on. Back at the house it took all of ten mintues for fix it up is it's easy on - easy off. The slip connection don't work loose anymore. A stretchy strap A couple of small key rings A couple of zip tie stick-on zip tie mounts and it was done. Under a couple bucks for a little extra secuity for the toys you paid good money for. Mike
13. I still have a pretty good quantity of shirts, but the sizes are limited to Large, Med, 2X Large, 3X Large & 4X Large, I forgot I had the 4 XLarge, so they weren't listed in the last auctions, I also have a few hats left and some pins. I will post a couple of auctions with 1 of each, and a couple with 2 items and the rest as singles. Remember, the Kids at St Jude are the real winners when all is said and done, this money goes a long way to helping them fight and find cures for all the different forms of cancer they have to deal with.
14. WE'RE NOT QUITE READY FOR THIS YET................!!! I stopped at your house the other day and was told you were down at your favorite biker bar with some friends. I wasn't sure where that was, but was told I wouldn't have much trouble finding it. Sure enough, I drove just a couple blocks and there it was... http://us.mg5.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=2%5f0%5f0%5f1%5f3509026%5fAA1bimIAACWTT5CrBA3kAVxLh5Q&pid=2.2&fid=Inbox&inline=1&appid=YahooMailNeo There is nothing like the feeling of the sun on your face and the wind in your hair (?), is there?
15. So, with the Waller maintenence day behind us, I thought possibly y'all might like a couple pictures to caption and chuckle at
16. Well I think it is time to come out and confess that I am addicted to relays. It all started about 6 years ago when I added just one relay to my light bar, and then Carbon_One said to try just one more a couple years after that, at first I said NO way. and then I broke down and added the 2nd one. Then after that like two years ago Midlife , Dingy and Carbon_One told me to do two relays at once. then I knew I was hooked. This was one of the threads http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45750&highlight=Cougar The past couple of days Carbon_One has been helping me try this and that with a couple relays and the rest was history. he really knows his stuff and can get you really hooked. so just be careful of him if you should need any kind of help. he will just get you more addicted. JUST SAY NO! I now have to confess that I was telling folks that I now have 6 Relays under the front fairing but I lied and did not say anything about the 2 others that I have as well. one is under the seat for the aux tank and the other is under the right side cover for the horn relay. I felt to guilty to even post pictures of them. here are the one's under the fairing and will make a plate next winter to hang them from. I really feel better now that I have this off my chest. and will be getting some sort of help in the near future for this problem. I know it will be a long road ahead of me but with the help of this group I know I can do it. There is now a total of (EIGHT) personal relays on my Bike. not even counting to OEM one's thanks for listening. Jeff
17. Anyone ever run a Vredestein?? http://www.ebay.com/itm/165-15-165-80-15-VREDESTEIN-SNOW-SNOW-TIRES-/300651135390?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item460034419e http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=300651135390 Looks like it would make a pretty good bike tire... it's a little rounder than most... i coulda used the studs a couple of years ago... LOL
18. ...so, I'm wondering what type of maintenance things would make sense while I have a good chance. Backstory: I sealed my driveway a couple of years ago and even though I covered the bike while it was sitting in the garage (apparently not well enough), a couple of gusts of wind apparently blew some of the sealer up underneath the blankets. Well, I've tried and tried over the past couple riding seasons to get the sealer off the paint with no luck. It looks like really fine dried water spots all over. It's primarily on the right side of the bike on the saddlebag, both fenders and the lower fairing. Some did make it's way on to the left side as well, though not as bad. Nothing that I can see made it to the tank. Anyway, a couple of days ago I stopped a one of our local body shops who's owner I happen to know pretty well. I asked him if he'd be willing to give me an opinion on what to do. He and one of is body shop guys took a peak. They tried some 'high power' bug and tar remover with no luck. They agreed that whatever got on there apparently etched itself into the clearcoat and the only way to fix it would be to wet sand and buff it out. Well, I'm getting off REALLY easy on the cost but he asked that I bring him all the parts stripped down. Here we are: I removed both saddlebags, complete lower fairing, rear fender (I didn't have to remove the rear wheel), front fender and both side covers. To get the rear fender off I also removed the seats and the bracketting that holds the saddlebags. So, as you can imagine, she's pretty naked. I have a lot of things exposed right now and I thought this would be the perfect time to take care of some routine maintenance. I plan to change the rear fluid but are there other suggestions? How do I grease it up good? Your thoughts are appreciated. Hopefully I'll get my stuff back and can get things back together next weekend so I'd like to take care of stuff over the week or maybe next Saturday. Thanks, Les
19. Of the little guys that hold these bags to the trunk? I just won these of ebay to put on my 84. I put the MKII trunk on my MKI about 1.5 years ago so I have the clips that hold the bags onto one side, and I took the intercom controls off the other side. So I need a couple clips to put the second bag on that side. Thanks Bill
20. Some of you have met our son, Dane at various meets. At 25, he's a graphic designer by trade, but has always had a love for creating his own art. When he was young, he was designing tatoo's for a lot of people around here. Then he got into painting. Now this past year he started airbrushing. He's done a lot of helmets, older bikes and now Camaro's. I have a female co worker that just bought a 2011 Harley Sportster 1200. She wanted a custom paint job, but not "girly". Here's a couple of pix of it. Thought he did a nice job and just had to share it! He is usually asked to do a lot of skulls, barb wire, what I consider "dark" art, so it was fun to see him branch out a little! Proud of the little bugger!
21. for gas to get back and forth to work ? I consider myself VERY lucky in that I'm retired but it still costs a couple hundred bucks a month for our 2 vehicles. ( 1 car, 1 truck )
22. Time to make a believer out of me. Since trading the RSTD back in August, I thought I'd probably let my membership here expire since we purchased a Victory. Well, I did, for a couple weeks, and really missed it. So I'm back onboard showing off our new ride. Since mid August we've logged about 5K on it. I think had I originally purchased a RSV and not the RSTD, I probably wouldn't be posting this but instead would still own the Venture. We love this Vision and wanted to share some pics. This is a great site and as Rumboogy said a couple weeks back, it's a shame more MC groups can't be this good. http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/looped1/CassvilleFallRideMissouri2011029.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/looped1/PopsArcadiaOklahomaTrip056.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/looped1/BikesBluesBBQandEurekaOct2011123.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/looped1/CassvilleFallRideMissouri2011507.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/looped1/NewPaintArcadiaandPopstrip149.jpg
23. OK folks, I know that vitamins are important to us all but.... I haven't felt good for a while now. My wife is always on me to go see the doctor and find out what is wrong but I am pretty stubborn. Basically I just have no energy, severe insomnia, a list of other things. To be honest, I have been feeling really bad for a long time and my wife claims that I have been struggling for about 3 years now. So, she called me when I was away on one of my business trips a couple of weeks ago and told me that she had made me a doctors appointment and that I was expected to keep it. Don't you just hate pushy women. Went to the doc last week and they ran a lot of blood tests and etc. They concluded that my problem is a severe lack of Vitamin D. According to them, it is in the dangerous level. I know that vitamins are important but I don't think I realized that there was a "dangerous" level of a deficiency. I guess a usual daily dosage of vitamin D is around 1000 UI. They actually have me on prescription vitamin D for the next 8 weeds of 100,000 UI per week. I am taking one 50,000 UI prescription only vitamin D twice per week. After that they will check it again and then I will be on a typical over the counter strength. So my question is, have any of you ever had a problem with a severe vitamin D deficiency? Did you get it treated and did you feel much different afterwards? According to my online research over the past couple of days, it can lead to fatigue, insomnia, high blood pressure, Type II diabetes, impaired vision and a long list of other ailments. I have already "googled" it but I have found that "ventureridering" it can often lead to better search results.
24. :)Man I never paid attension to how much HD bashin going on around here. I start out every Monday with one feeling and I got it hurt already . Now I would like to know how many guys have rode a Harley from the last couple of years and can give an opinion . If you havent, and have an opinion you must just be Venturerider brain washed.
