  1. Ok short story is the gentleman that bought my silverwing flew in today to pick it up and ride it to Indiana and then on to Arizona. The plan went as it was supposed to except one thing, he is inexperienced and in ten blocks has already has several mishaps. What do I do now? I am not comfortable in letting him take it on a cross country trip when he cant get it across town!! Legally i cant stop him. But morally it aint right for me to let him go. Any and all help appreciated. Shaun
  2. Well after about 4,600 miles a couple of weeks and a couple of days we made it (ground zero). The house still stands the pets are alive and other than a few dead flowers every thing is good in da hood. Wow did we see some country and a fantastic rally and again the Venture Riders are the best people to be found ANYWHERE......... Will post more after we settle in.
  3. This was written by Robert St. John, executive chef and owner of the Purple Parrot Cafe, Crescent City Grill and Mahogany Bar of Hattiesburg , MS. Thirty years ago I visited my first cousin in Virginia . While hanging out with his friend, the discussion turned to popular movies of the day. When I offered my two-cents on the authenticity and social relevance of the movie Billy Jack, one of the boys asked, in all seriousness; 'Do you guys have movie theaters down there?' To which I replied, 'Yep. We wear shoes too.' Just three years ago, my wife and I were attending a food and wine seminar in Aspen , Colo. We were seated with two couples from Las Vegas . One of the Glitter Gulch gals was amused and downright rude when I described our restaurant as a fine-dining restaurant. ' Mississippi doesn't have fine-dining restaurants!' she insisted and nudged her companion. I fought back the strong desire to mention that she lived in the land that invented the 99-cent breakfast buffet. I wanted badly to defend my state, my region, and my restaurant with a 15-minute soliloquy and public relations rant that would surely change her mind. It was at that precise moment that I was hit with a blinding jolt of enlightenment, and in a moment of complete and absolute clarity it dawned on me -- my South is the best-kept secret in the country. Why would I try to win this woman over? She might move down here. I am always amused by Holly wood 's interpretation of the South. We are still, on occasion, depicted as a collective group of sweaty, stupid, backwards-minded, racist rednecks. The South of movies and TV, the Holly wood South, is not my South. This is my South: "My South is full of honest, hardworking people. My South is the birthplace of blues and jazz, and rock n' roll. It has banjo pickers and fiddle players, but it also has BB King, Muddy Waters, the Allman Brothers, Emmylou Harris and Elvis - and Leontyn Price. My South is hot. My South smells of newly mowed grass. My South was kick the can, creek swimming, cane-pole fishing and bird hunting. In my South, football is king, and the Southeastern Conference is the kingdom. My South is home to the most beautiful women on the planet. In my South, soul food and country cooking are the same thing. My South is full of fig preserves, cornbread, butter beans, fried chicken, grits and catfish. In my South we eat foie gras, caviar and truffles. In my South, our transistor radios introduced us to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones at the same time they were introduced to the rest of the country. In my South, grandmothers cook a big lunch every Sunday, so big that we call it dinner (supper comes later). In my South, family matters, deeply. My South is boiled shrimp, blackberry cobbler, peach ice cream, banana pudding and oatmeal cream pies. In my South people put peanuts in bottles of Coca-Cola and hot sauce on almost everything. In my South the tea is iced and almost as sweet as the women. My South has air-conditioning. My South is camellias, azaleas, wisteria and hydrangeas. In my South, the only person that has to sit on the back of the bus is the last person that got on the bus. In my South, people still say 'Yes, ma'am,' 'No ma'am,' 'Please' and 'Thank you.' In my South, we all wear shoes....most of the time. My South is the best-kept secret in the country. Please continue to keep the secret....it keeps the idiots away."
  4. Hope everyone a nice and safe 4th of July. The birthday of the land of the free. Thanks to all whom help to preserve this wonderful country we live in. Glad/proud to be an AMERICAN..... :325::325::325::325::325: Fuzzy
  5. Any bluegrass fans here? My favorite is Railroad Earth. The Fabulous Stringdusters are pretty good too. I am an old Hendrix/Zeppelin era guy but still like country and Jazz. I have really gotten a taste for Bluegrass the last few years.
  6. We made it home today after a great week in Lake George NY. Burned a few tanks of gas riding the back roads in the area. It was really hot for most of the week and rained all day Saturday. We tried out a Victory Cross Country and a Honda GL 1800 trike and just missed getting to ride a Can-Am Spider. Saw lots of RSV's in and around the area while we were there.
  7. Hey all Just curious, IS there a Canadian Maintenance Day? If so, where, and If NOT, How can i start one up!!!? I've got a shop fully tooled with hoist, out in the country side, some good prairie runs here in Manitoba. Just seen a dozen bikes go by in the last half hour.
  8. 1. Think of a number from 1 to 10. 2. Multiply that number by 9. 3. If it's a 2 digit number, add the digits together. 4. Subtract 5. 5. Determine which letter in the alphabet corrresponds to the number you ended up with. 6. Think of a Country that starts with that letter. 7. Remember the last letter of the name of that Country. 8. Think of the name of an animal that starts with that letter. 9. Remember the last letter in the name of that animal. 10. Think of the name of a fruit that starts with that letter. ARE Y0U THINKING OF A KANGAROO IN DENMARK EATING AN ORANGE????
  9. He was getting old and paunchy And his hair was falling fast, And he sat around the Legion, Telling stories of the past. Of a war that he once fought in And the deeds that he had done, In his exploits with his buddies; They were heroes, every one. And 'tho sometimes to his neighbors His tales became a joke, All his buddies listened quietly For they knew whereof he spoke. But we'll hear his tales no longer, For old Bob has passed away, And the world's a little poorer For a Soldier died today. He won’t be mourned by many, Just his children and his wife. For he lived an ordinary, Very quiet sort of life. He held a job and raised a family, Going quietly on his way; And the world won't note his passing, 'Tho a Soldier died today. When politicians leave this earth, Their bodies lie in state, While thousands note their passing, And proclaim that they were great. Papers tell of their life stories From the time that they were young But the passing of a Soldier Goes unnoticed, and unsung. Is the greatest contribution To the welfare of our land, Someone who breaks his promise And cons his fellow man? Or the ordinary fellow Who in times of war and strife, Goes off to serve his country And offers up his life? The politician's stipend And the style in which he lives, Are often disproportionate, To the service that he gives. While the ordinary Soldier, Who offered up his all, Is paid off with a medal And perhaps a pension, small. It is not the politicians With their compromise and ploys, Who won for us the freedom That our country now enjoys. Should you find yourself in danger, With your enemies at hand, Would you really want some cop-out, With his ever waffling stand? Or would you want a Soldier-- His home, his country, his kin, Just a common Soldier, Who would fight until the end? He was just a common Soldier, And his ranks are growing thin, But his presence should remind us We may need his like again. For when countries are in conflict, We find the Soldier's part Is to clean up all the troubles That the politicians start. If we cannot do him honor While he's here to hear the praise, Then at least let's give him homage At the ending of his days. Perhaps just a simple headline In the paper that might say: "OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."
  10. Just want to say thanks to all those who have served or are serving this country. Thank you. We're here because you were/are there. Thanks again

    Victory

I test rode a Victory Vision, and a Victory Cross Country today. The stereo was better on both bikes then on my RSV, seat comfort was good on both, a little better on the Vision but lower on the CC. Handle bar bend seemed funny and bothered my wrists. Vision had turbulence around my helmet even with the screen all the way up. And the Cross Country turbulence was terrible. I never had and turbulence around my helmet on the RSV, even when it had the stock windscreen. Vision seemed very heavy both slow and at speed. Surprisingly the CC was much lighter and more nimble, I thought they had the same frame? FI is nice, engine has lots of torque. But overall, not as good as what I have.
  13. I took off work yesterday at 3pm and stopped by the house and picked up my lady Linda, who had come over for a visit, and we took off down thru the country on one of those rides you dream about during the winter. I started off in a light jacket and ended up putting shorts on. The scenery, with all the budding trees and flowers was absolutely beautiful, especially with the clear air and the mountains all around us. At one point we saw 82º on the bike thermometer. It was one of those light traffic, bike running real good days along country back roads that are just made for easy riding and talking and sharing thoughts about the upcoming summer and camping and traveling on the bike. We snaked along roads that ran beside rivers that went from glistening pools to fast running white water. We saw fields of grass that are just beginning to get that bright green that is only in the early spring. I really feel fortunate to live in this part of the country where the weather is more moderate and people are so friendly. It is rare that when stopped that someone doesn't have something friendly to say, especially when you are on a motorcycle. I noticed that when I pulled the bike back into the garage that we had put 125 miles on it just to run out and get something to eat. RandyA
  14. Las Vegas will be the site of one of the largest remembrances for the events of 9/11. 10 years ago our country was attacked. We came together as a country during those times and have slowly drifted apart since. Please click the link to this page and click like. It will continue to provide you with updates as the events are announced. Lets come back together as a country and remember. Please share this with all your friends. This is going to be a great event for a great cause. If you are looking for a great place to vacation HERE IT IS. VEGAS baby. This will be one heck of an event for Bikers. The bike run will be down the strip and to the Las Vegas motor speedway for a great party on 9-10-11 that’s on Sat. There is a parade down the strip on Sunday the 11th. A car show and a horse show. If you have always wanted to be part of something this is your chance. You need to register for the run to get all the goodies. This will have a New York / Las Vegas simulcast. Having never served myself thanks to tricky Dick I don't know so hears my question. My son who has served 14 yr is now in Afghanistan and has been since last July and finally called us yesterday. After not hearing from him for three weeks. It was good to hear his voice again. He said that he was very tired and tired of being hungry. When he left he was about 205 and is now at 175. I have a hard time imagining this! How could we send these young men to fight for our country and not feed them? He is on a forward operation base and says things are heating up there now that winter is almost over. Seems the Taliban are fair weather fighters. We are sending him another care package today {food, magazines, tobacco products}. All I know is that this fries me. One more thing he has bought with his own money a Rangefinder and a tactical jacket with lots of storage pockets. Which we have sent on to him. This I thought was unacceptable also that he is self funding our war needs.
  16. This winter is dragging on. Had a few good weeks of nice weather. But today, it decided to be winter again. 4-12 inches forecast, with winds gusting to 35. At 1:00 p.m. today the snow was already over bumper deep on the highway going past my farm. Visibility in the country right now is about 200 feet tops. So I guess it is official, I am ready for spring........I feel a little better now!
  17. Yesterday, was a beautiful sunny day here in central Florida. We were going to head out on the bike and explore some of the areas we haven't been to yet but some of the other folks in the park invited us to join them for a ride. Great idea, I thought, it's always nice to ride with someone who may know of some good riding in the local area. So we head out at about 12:15, stop to top up the gas tank and off we go. Sixteen miles up the road I see everyone (four other bikes with five people) slowing and turning into a bar. Maybe a great place to eat, I think. Nope, $1 drafts. OK, go with the flow, I'll have a diet coke. Half an hour later we're ready to roll again. Nice ride, seeing some different country and starting to enjoy the trip. Now what? Another thirty miles and now we're pulling into another bar. We don't want to be rude and I'm getting hungry so in we go. Again $1 drafts and just awful deep fried bar food. But it's a nice sunny day and we're sitting on a patio overlooking a nice river. An hour later off we go again. Four lanes, heavy traffic with lots of strip malls etc. After thirty miles of this we turn off the four lane on to a nice country road and start heading toward the gulf. We stop again but this time it's a nice beach area. The beer drinkers run into the restroom for a quick pit stop and ten minutes later away we go. Back into the traffic for about ten miles or so then a main two lane road but at least it's out in the country. Another thirty miles and you guessed it, another bar. By this time it's getting to be about 5:00, dark in a little over an hour and I've had enough bars. I gave everyone a honk and a wave and off I went. Hope they didn't think I was rude but if they did, too bad. I went back to the space shuttle, put my feet up and enjoyed a nice cold beer out on the patio.
  18. I just bought my Venture Royale last August and even though I really enjoy the bike, I wanted more. So, I watched and watched and looked at literally hundreds of ads on eBay and Craigslist and elsewhere and finally found the right one. Naturally, it's on the other side of the country and will take about 3 weeks to get here, but I'm still pumped. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/Black%20Beauty/FullSideView-Outside.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/Black%20Beauty/IMG_0093-1.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/Black%20Beauty/VeryNiceRearShot-1.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/Black%20Beauty/RingofFireRadiator.jpg
  19. Overall the last 20 years Loraine and I traveled a lot of miles on our bikes. I would like to share some of this beautiful country with you. The first one will be a short trip down the Natchez Trace Parkway! http://www.photoshow.com/watch/YC3hB7NN?source=em_ps_show_owner Phill
  20. I read they are having wildfires north and southeast of Perth. Any of that south east fire near you? Hope not. Maybe they should dig a trench from the wet part of the country to the dry part. I know but it was just a thought. Hope you're ok. Margaret
  21. What a beautiful day for a ride today. Meet up with Art (Art 708) this morning before joining up with a local group of riders for a nice 5 hour ride through the back roads of the low country. Art's Mods to his bike looked great the pics he posted did not do it justice. Sorry our newest low country resident could not join us maybe next time. Joe http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx248/etcswjoe/Bike%20Rides/Lowcountry%20Ride%20Feb%206%202011/IMG_1970.jpg
  22. Does anyone have a promotion code from HID Country for their HID kits? I need to get enough for 3 lights soon. I'm tired of riding in the dark.
  23. ...are the shims the same between the first and second generation engines? I need a 265 shim for a first gen, if anyone has one in country.
  24. I have been reading a lot of post of people getting HID. I have the HID from HID Country installed on my bike and I love it. I was looking around on the HID Country web site and noticed that they offer quantity discounts. If we can get 20 orders together, the same setup that is on my bike will run $34 plus shipping. We can mix and match kits, so you can get whatever color or bulb style you need/want, or even get HID for your cage. Is anyone interested?
  25. Well what a great day in Central Illinois. 4th of November and it wa 62 degrees. Figured we don't get many of these so jump on The RSV and took a ride. Ended up riding 120 miles basically just around in a circle. Rode the country roads and just enjoyed the day. I really hate the thought of putting the bike away but it won't be long now.
