  1. Has anybody had a problem similar to this? I took about a 90 mile ride yesterday. the operating temp for the bike never got more than about 1/4 inch above the cold mark on the guage. If I got on the throttle hard the clutch would slip. It was fine under normal conditions. It has never slipped when op temp was up in normal range. (about halfway). Nor does it slip at higher temps. Is this something new developing with my clutch or just an oddity of the brand?
  2. Went out for an afternoon ride to-day.Only -6 by radio. Was out for about5 hours went for coffee with friend then went home to do things around the house for tomorrow then went out for supper. It was great getting out and wasn't actually not that cold on the bike. It seemed colder when off bike.Wife still thinks I was nuts.
  3. So it was 25 degrees when I left the house this morning. Dang it was cold. Bike started no problems in the garage, but got me to thinking when I leave work, how cold is too cold to get it started? I have had a couple of times where it started ok, but idled very low for a few minutes (at full choke).
  4. It was a cold ride into work this moring 19 degrees(well cold for Fort Worth TX) when I left the house. Winthers just started and all ready wishing for warm Evey one have a wonderfull holiday Dan AKA short-haul:santa:
  5. Condor

    .

    I'M BORED:thumbdown: BROKE:mo money: and IT's TOO DANG COLD.....
  6. I don't do cold !! it's getting cold down here ! :cold:when the snowbirds come down they are not supposed to bring the cold with them :cold:and they are bringing the worst thing down this year ! the Idiot weather man said on tv that ----- you ain't gonna believe it ---- SNOW FLURRYS ,:cold::cold::cold::cold::cold::cold: IN SOUTH TEXAS !! I don't do snow ! so if know body heres from me Friday you know i saw snow and am in shock !
  7. I hope someone here can steer me in the proper direction. I have a 2000 Ford Explorer Limited that I purchased about 2 years ago. It has the reverse sensing unit on it, where it beeps if you get close to anything backing up. I would like to find out how to set the darn thing so that the default is OFF. With cold weather setting in, the blankity thing is beeping at me from the exhaust steam. It is driving me nuts!!!!!!!! Any knowledge about these systems here? Thanks, Dave
  8. Okay is it just me or do any other riders see this too? I've been riding every day since the first of May up till maybe a week or two ago, here in Illinois it started to get down into the 30's at night and I just don't like to be cold on the thirty mile trip to work, in the dark, so Ive been taking the pickup. Now this last Saturday and again on Sunday I can't stand letting the scooter set in the garage any longer so as soon as the temp gets to about 40 outside, Im off to enjoy another ride. However the first 2 or 3 miles the black and red beauty is all over the road and handles really bad. After I get about 5 miles down the road It's back to a great handling bike again. Iv'e got 4000 miles on a new set of Avon Venom's and the pressure is right in both front and back. No air in the front forks, with about 30 lbs in the rear. Could it just be the tires are cold? (Ive got a heated garage with the temp set at 60) Any thoughts?
  9. Burrr....... what a fun day ! Even with temperatures hanging around 43 degrees....We, ( dogman, ..his wife, Bernie...myself, Taters, bongobob,Becky who was fashionably late, Buffalo bodnar, Hoffy, spankym, and big D and little D from the valkyrie riders) had a great time... We arrived at Earls after a cold ,damp ride to see that Dogman had beat us there.....happy to warm up ,we enjoyed lunch and a piece of pie while hoffy went to PIONEER MOTOR SPORTS(located across the street) to purchase some cold weather riding gear.....with everyone in attendance we headed north toward my home town where it was dry and some what sunny.. lol....our destination was the t/a truck stop in the town of Pembrook.....here we had coffee and MORE pie along with ( for the real men in the group) ICE CREAM....... after a short stay we altered our destination to a northern restaurant called AL-E-OOPS. At this time we said good by to Dogman,Bernie, Buffalo Bodnar and Hoffy...... The rest of us headed inside where Becky met up with us.......MAN, what a meal. The portions were HUGE.....great BAR -B- QUE and seafood.....After stuffing ourselves we headed out , saying goodby to spanky m......we traveled east and after 15 miles or so, big and little d broke off and headed toward their home in ALBION...Taters convinced Bongo and Becky to stop at our home for coffee...after some bull swaping bob and becky left for home around 8pm tonight..... WHAT A GREAT DAY WE ALL HAD..COLD AND ALL .......WE EVEN HAD TO CLOTHE OUR MASCOT FOR THE DAY.........THANK YOU Bobby for a wonderful time..
  10. Well, Karen and I rode 650 miles south through the cold and rain to get to Daytona. I woke up this morning and it's 50 degrees outside. I heard that it's some kind of record cold snap down for this time of year. I'm ready for some warm air.
  11. Cincinnati has only gotten down into the 40's so far this Fall. At what point do you say, no I think it is too cold to ride? We are out there riding still, do not intend to park the bike for a while. However, I do notice fewer bikers out already. I think riding in the Fall is probably one of the prettiest seasons to ride. We are planning on going to Elizabethtown, KY next weekend, and go on over to Bardstown to tour some bourbon distilleries. I hope there are samples. Keep warm. Yama Mama
  12. Got in last night about 3am.... BURRR is all I can say. Got in some good riding while in TN. Put on close to 1k miles and saw some beautiful land. Rode the bike back into KY but the temp dropped and I didn't have the gear for cold weather with me. So, she got loaded back up and we trucked it home. I really hate Michigan....
  13. My 89 is a little lean at light throttle. When I test rode the bike before I purchased it, it appeared to be fine. However, when I started to service it, I found the air cleaner was probably the original and extremely dirty. I installed a K&N and then I notice that if the bike wasn't completely warmed up it would bog a bit at light-medium throttle. If you opened the throttle, it was fine. Idle was fine as was response off of idle. The lean condition was only noticable for a minute or two after you pulled away with a cold engine. The bike has about 37,000 miles on it now, and runs great. I've set the idle mixture and the bike idles's great now. Of course, I've also synced the carbs. Whatever is wrong is on all 4 cylinders because when it bogs, all 4 bog. Of course it tends to fart out the exhaust when this happens also. When I bought the bike it had cut out mufflers. I've replace them with stockers and also replaced the baffle chamber with a known good one. My gas mileage is a touch less than 40 MPG @ 75 mph indicated (72 GPS). When I rode a little slower for a tank, it gave me 46.5MPG. This is with loaded bags and 2 up. This morning it was about 55 degrees F. here and the bog was really bad. I believe I need to raise the needles a little, but I see that Mk II's aren't adjustable as the 1200's were. I know everybody else has rich carbs. My 83 was on the rich side. You'd start than one up with a little choke in cold weather. Then pull away with the chock on a bit and turn it off after you were moving. It would run great no matter how cold it was. Not this 1300....Anybody else had this problem or have any ideas?

    the signs

It's happening. I noticed flocks of Starlings a few days ago. The geese are flying in formation. To top it off today there wasen't a Robin to be seen anywhere. The cold is near. What happened to summer? Excuse me while I go slam my head into the doorjam.
  15. Just recently I was rearend and totalled my boulvard, and man am I going through withdrals, while talking to my neighbor with the "Goat path" he turned me on to the rsv, I have to say this is a great site, while I was reading about windsheids I got to thinking, I leave at 5 am and it can be cold and I hate cold wind in the morning, but on my way home it is nice to have the wind in my face, has anyone contemplated connecting a cager window motor to thier windsheild and having the best of both worlds?
  16. Not as big a turnout as I was hoping for, but the ones who showed up are some pretty awesome folks. The ride from western Washington (Everett) to Leavenworth started out cold and foggy. As we went over Stevens Pass the temps were in the mid 40's and I was beginning to wonder if I should have put on a snowmobile suit! At the rest area 15 miles outside of Leavenworth we had to pull over and shed some of the cold weather gear. Temps were already pushing 90 degrees. In Leavenworth we met John (Old Salt) and Wayde (67mini67) and his wife. These are some very fine people and I enjoyed meeting them. We are considering another M&E plus a maintainence day for spring/summer 2010. It must have been a motorcycle destination for lots of people because I have never seen so many motorcycles in this town. I had a great time and didn't even come close to spending as much money as I usually do while in this "Bavarian Village" Special thanks to everyone who attended and I can't wait to do this again. I'm sure it will get bigger each time we do this. Pictures are at the link below. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/album.php?albumid=488 Larry AKA - silverdeer
  17. Here is a weird one. First of all I might mention my engage clutch was new this spring along with the 72 tooth gear and the battery is not suspect at all. This just started after the last oil change from 10/40 to 20/50 oil, that was the day before this problem started. The bike has always started great. Touch of a button. Hot or cold. Since the change to 20/50, which I have never used before, and when the temps drop down into the mid 40's or so the bike has been difficult to start in the mornings and after long cooling off time where it gets back to cold to the touch. What I am finding is the starter is spinng but the engine is not turning when it's cold. No compression so no spark. It seems the engage clutch is not taking hold. After say 5 minutes of on and off cranking it will catch and fires right up. After it warms up a bit I have no problems at all with it starting again. If I leave the bike parked overnight I go through the same thing in the morning when it's cool out. After the first cold start, it's fine again. What this tells me is the the cold oil might be thick enough to keep the pawls from engaging properly to grip the face of the 72 tooth ring gear. But with that in mind as the engine warms up the oil should be a bit thicker. However the oil would be more fluid as it heats up so that may be a null point. When the engine is warmed up or up to running temps it starts with a touch of the switch. Cold. not so good until the engage clutch has been spinning for a while. Then it hits and off we go. By the way.....the engage clutch is quiet. None of the knocking common with a failure. So, anybody else run into this? There ya go Condor. You wanted some new problems. I'm here for ya buddy. Mike
  18. I just paid off actually I'll send the last payment Tuesday. My Silverado pickup is mine with only 54K miles. I'll have $42K in her and I will never do that again. Then next $42K will go toward a new house.I just opened a cold one and lets hope she runs another 150K miles.I got the check ready to mail.:big-grin-emoticon:
  19. Sometimes I wonder if a Goldwing would be a better option just because it has heated seat, grips, and vents that can blow some heat on you in cold temps. Having not ridden a venture in cold weather yet, do you stay warm on a venture in cold weather? Or do you need to add some heated features to the venture to stay warm on it? Is it possible to add heat to a venture? Will the electrical system on the venture easily handle heated seats or grips?
  20. I have to start driving 50 miles to get to work. I can no longer bring the company truck home. What kind of riding gear is the best for rain and also in the cold weather? A lot of people talk about the frogg toggs but the way the size chart looks they won't work for me. I'm 6' 2 and 190 pounds. My jean size is 34 x36 and it's hard to find that without them being to big in the waist. For anyone with advice on the cold weather what is the coldest you have used them in? Do you guys us your regular boots or is there a certain boot that you bought for cold? I have never ridden in cold weather so I'm not familiar with any of this. thanks tim
  21. I know its hot weather and no need for heated cloths, but I like to ride in cold weather too. My question is, does Yamaha make a heaver duty alternator? The reason is my bike will not keep the battery charged with my wife and I wearing our Gerbing's heated coats and gloves. Seems like a touring bike would provide ample power for heated cloths. Don't get me wrong I love my RSV and would not trade it for any other on the market. Any help in this matter would be a great help, I know ya'll are a great bunch of people and I'm honored to be a part of this forum. Mike
  22. I cleaned the carbs, replaced the diaphragms and then synced it this weekend. Now my question is, When I first start it up cold (San Antonio cold 70*) it runs really poorly, but as soon as it warms up, it goes like a gasoline coated cat (don't ask me how I know what that looks like). Shoudl it do that or am I just being paranoid? (I know they're out to get me)
  23. I have my Computer "information display" out for re soldering and I am photographing steps so others can understand this one better. I had only one "cold" solder joint and it in fact did not look cold to me but what happens when you run too much current through a incomplete joint. I am sure that it's the one for the headlight low beam, but would like to confirm it. Does anyone have a pinout of what pin is for what on the unit? The one pin that needed to be re-soldered was all the way to the edge of the connector.
  24. since my crash in Aug. 29- 08. Got me a 2009 V star Tourer last monday. Looked at for a whole week before getting enought nerve to get on and try it. This morning was a super nice day, so I put on a heavey pair of wool sockes cause I was getting cold feet. After1/2 a block I was good to go. Went for a 120 mile ride, man did that feel good. Suppose to rain all next week. Now that I know that I can handle it can't wait to go again. Ride safe Bob.:big-grin-emoticon:
  25. Anybody know a sure fire way to cure or kill a cold? It is supposed to be a great weekend and Doreen want to go for a ride. I have such a cold that if it is going to kill me, I just wish it would HURRY UP and get the job done. Thdecongestant I have taken has messed up my head so much, I have had to preview and redo this three times. Hate spring colds. Dave
