  1. Hello All, My new purchase which is a 2006 Royal Star Deluxe makes a whining noise through all gears. Not while I am shifting. After I am in any gear. Is this normal or should I have it checked out? I have 60 days from 4/3/10. Thanks Moe:Venture:
  2. Bike is leaking gas and it drains down onto the crankcase breather onto the left side clutch cover to the ground. I checked the plugs and the right front was gas fouled. Changed all the plugs and it seems like a new bike, quit backfiring also. I checked gas tank... no rust visible. Did the seafoam 25% of can in 3 different tanks of gas still have 25% left...man that is expensive stuff. Drained carbs and it was impossible to see what came out. These measures didn't stop the leak. I haven't taken the tank clear off and tapped the floats yet. Took it to a shop months ago and $300 later I have new jets and a replaced fuse for my light bar, I explained the problems and I asked to have the floats checked but I got new jets and a fuse. One jet was corrosion green so I don't feel completely bad, but I left the shop with the same problem, the undiscovered bad plug, and the backfiring also. This was the good metric shop in St Joseph, the others are even worse. This is a metropolitan area of 85,000, you would think there would be one good shop here, but noooooo. If I owned a Harley I would have 3 good service options, metric ...3 very bad service options. I still suspect the float was not set correctly or was stuck when I purchased the bike, a 2004 Midnight. It was a repossession and probably sat for many months. Any suggestions, I dread the thought of trying to take the carburetor apart to set the floats, never have done that before. Changing the the buried plugs took me 3 hours so a carburetor would be 2 day job for me, and my not so flexible back. Any other suggestions?
  3. Guess who is looking for a new bike again!? Nope, not me this time! Marilyn has had her eye on the Raider ever since she sat on one last year. Loves it....red with flames. Does anyone have any report on them? I have checked a little into their site but it didnt help me much. Also does anyone know of a good deal on one? And you know we will drive a long way to get a good deal! Craiglook has several and one in Sherman TX looks really nice and loaded as well! But I checked the dealer site and its not listed there anymore so I assume its gone.
  4. Howdy all! I was just going out to start the bike. I turned the key on, and the CMS BIT check went through its normal process. After all checks cleared, I hit the start button everything went off and no start! I checked the fuses on both fuse panels and they're alright. The main fuse is good too. I also checked the other little fuse on the negative side of the battery. The radio works fine, but that seems to be the only thing that works (when ignition switch is on accessory). I have no headlights, turn/hazard lights, tail light or start. The battery is good, I just put it on the battery tender and it already had a full charge. My thoughts are it could be a relay (which one, I don't know) or a CMS. Any ideas?? Thanks.
  5. Found this on another site.... Ride-On Works I myself am using it in EVERYTHING that I own that has Tires. So far two years later and all is well. . 432.1 Noticed what looked like a small nail stuck in my rear tire today. Thought I'd let the air out of my tire and see what it was (I had 36 psi in my tire last time I checked several months ago - checked it today and I had 34.5 psi). I found this: http://s275.photobucket.com/albums/jj318/PianoV/Tire%20-%20Quarter-inch%20Bolt%20Breach"]http://s275.photobucket.com/albums/jj318/PianoV/Tire%20-%20Quarter-inch%20Bolt%20Breach[/COLO/"]http://s275.photobucket.com/albums/jj318/PianoV/Tire%20-%20Quarter-inch%20Bolt%20Breach"][color=#99000 Obviously that bolt had been in my tire for some time because of the wearing off of the hex head. IMHO, the combination of sealing the rear rim, a tubeless steel-belted radial car tire and the application of Ride-On Tire Sealant not only saved the day, but made the event a non-event. I'm impressed. EDIT ":: Sorry Guys I can not seem to get the link to work yet.
  6. Saw this one on Ebay this morning. It's only 70 miles from me in Napa if someone needs it checked out. There's not too many left in this condition. VENTURE ROYALE
  7. Does anyone have any experience with the Roadstar Silverado? I have the opportunity to trade my old 72 Suburban for an 07 Roadstar with 3400 miles on it. I checked out the Roadstar forums but can't find the kind of information I find here. Is there anything I need to be watching for? Thanks!

Where is everybody. I checked in 3 or 4 times in the last week or so. Nobody is there. Is it my deodorant, or maybe i have something stuck in my teeth.
  9. from him? It's been since the 16th of Jan. He said he'd be gone for 2 weeks.....I'm just suprised he hasn't checked in.
  10. Last night I pulled the faring to replace my XM antenna and move the XM on to a new RAM mount, so I had to adjust the wiring with that. I noticed some bolts missing that hold the top trunk on the bike, on the chrome braces that go down to both sides side of the rear fender... Holy smokes. I checked all the rest of them and all of they were loose. I replaced them with some stainless I had on hand till I can do better. I put locktite on all of them. Over 14000 miles on the bike and just now finding this... I have lost one seat bolt and now these bolts. Heads up to all to go check these bolts on your bike before the riding season gets started. . I am wondering what else I should check? I already got the items listed below Dog bones on the engine Chrome trim on the fender tips Had the mufflers off so they got checked Had the both front and rear wheels so all that got checked (brakes calipers included) Tank as been off so that is good Bags have been of so that has been checked Fairing off several times along with the passing lights Risers installed so that has been touched Checked the bag lid hinges several times and know that is something to check regularly. What else do I need to check for tightness?
  11. I am having a couple of problems on my 1989 Venture Royale. The first problem is the headlight. Works like a champ on high beam, but when you switch to low, it is very dim, and the warning light comes on. About 2 months ago, while driving home at night, the headlight stopped working. I assumed a blown fuse. After pulling the top off of the fuse box, I found that the fuse was not blown, but the plastic fuse box had been melted near the fontact points, and the contacts were burnt and broken. The next day, I bought a new fuse panel, and replaced the old glass fuses with ATM blade style fuses. After I rewired the box and installed all the fuses, everything worked perfect. About 2 weeks later, the low beam went very dim. Checked and changed the fuse, but still very dim. High beam is perfect. I am also getting a brake fluid light and I have checked the fluid many times. There is no problem with the fluid level, or the brake system. I have had 2 motorcycle mechanics verify this. Also, the computer leveling system is not working. When the key is switched to Acc. the system appears to try to turn on, and then I see what looks like an error code that says E4 and then the screen fades out and seems to lose power. in the corner it still reads PSI in very small letters. I have checked the power to the unit, and it is good. I unplugged the connector to the back of the unit and plugged it back in, and it still does the same thing. I cleaned the connectors, still no success. Then I held pressure on the back of the connector, and it worked. I was able to adjust the system with both automatic and manual settings. However as soon as I let go of the connector, it would turn back off. Any help with these 2 problems would be great. I have seen many posts about re-soldering cold joints, and I have thought about trying this. However, I was wondering if anybody might know a step by step on how to do this. Also, does anybody have pictures of these joints and what I am looking for. Thanks in advance for everybodys help.

SURE WISH I COULD FLY LIKE THIS! 13. My cassette deck was not working, so I took it over to my dealer to have it checked out. They found the problem. :rotf::rotf:

    Here it is

OK, here's the pics. She looks pretty good for a standard, does have cruise but not much else. The Yamaha foot pegs will go with what ever bike I keep. Sits good, nice backrest. Got a lot of work to do. The PO bought it in '01, last plated in '03 with only 1300 miles put on it in that time and since (36,031 miles on her now!). Poor thing has been sitting outside most of this time, but thankfully the paints not faded. Throttle cables frozen, tires flat-spotted (but will be putting new ones on anyway). Needs fork work done, haven't checked rear shock yet. Basically a tear-down like I did mine a couple of years ago and then see which one we wanna keep. (I know, why not both?!) PO didn't know where the lower fairing legs were, didn't know they were supposed to have them!
  15. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who lost a ton of money last year in the stock market. I was down about 30 thousand dollars. I've always heard that you should buy when stocks are low, so I kept buying when it looked like the bottom was just gonna keep getting lower. I just checked my balance today and was pleasantly surprised to learn that I'm back up to about where I was before. I'm sure I'm not the only one. I hope everyone else is making a comeback too.
  16. My bike decided not to start after getting gas the other day. I thought it might be the battery because its not exactly new. I had the battery tested they said it was ok so I checked the voltage with the bike at 2000-4000 rpm and it was 13.4 V DC the book says it should be 14-15 V. Is that right seems a little high to me. So you fine folks think the stators going? I have not checked the resistance yet or the AC voltage.
  17. Ok I thought I could fix it myself, so I kept putting off asking here. I've developed a vibration in my '05 RSTD. I can feel it in the grips, the tank and the floorboards. I asked for help syncing the carbs and was helped by Ken (slick97spirit). He was nice enough to do it for me and show me how to do it. It seemed better for a few days, and the got worse again. I bought my own carb sync tool and have checked it a few times. They are still in sync. I changed the oil, I have new tires, changed the plugs, and have checked for anything loose on the bike. It definitely feels like it's in the engine, and only does it a certain RPMs for instance in 3rd at about 40 to 55 MPH. I have also ran some Sea Foam through it a time or two. It only has about 10K on it and at this point I'm ready for any suggestions I can get. I'm not a mechanic, but I can do whatever needs to be done. I am back riding after a 20 year hiatus, and I'm probably overlooking something simple. TIA, Jim
  18. Looking to purchase a luggage rack for my 08 RSTD, pt. no. STR1D6513000. Any suggestions where to buy and get best value on the internet? I have checked with my dealer and they run ~$145.00, any body got any ideas or happen to have one laying around?
  19. I have a good one for you electrically inclined... This may be long so bear with me. A few weeks ago I was on a trip to the Dragon and after a long day of riding we returned to our motel and my bike died. No power at all. First thought ignition switch, but after further investigation we determined my battery was shot. It was late on Saturday and I called a local bike shop and had them stay open until I got there to buy new battery. I put new battery in and bike fired right up. All was well, I thought. Sunday we started home and after a few hours on the road we stop to take a break and when we went to leave my new battery was dead. I had to push the bike off to get it started. I had installed the Stebel horn the week before so I thouoght that may have something to do with my battery being drained. At the suggestion of a fellow rider, at our next stop I unplugged what I thought was the wire going to the horn but instead it was the wires going to my tail/brake lights. He wanted to see if the battery would recharge itself after a few miles. It did. This tells me something in the wiring going to the rear of the bike has a short that may be pulling the battery down. No fuses were blown. After I got home I had my neighbor check everything that could be checked to see if he could find the problem. We checked the battery for proper voltage, both with the bike running and not running. We checked the wiring for broke wires or bare spots that could cause a short. We could not find anything wrong. With bike not running the draw on the battery was 0.04 volts/amps (?). With it running it was putting out 13.8 volts/amps. (I know nothing about this stuff so I don't know if it is volts or amps.) I have plugged my lights back up but I have not riden my bike for any extended length of time to see if I still have the problem. Just sitting in my garage the battery seems to be fine. It has started right up everytime. I plan on riding it for a few hours this weekend to see what happens. Does any one have any ideas? What would draw the battery's juice while the bike is running? The alternator seems to be working properly.
  20. Just bought a new never ridden 2008 Venture... 6 gal tank as should be... The reserve light and trip gage comes on at about 172 miles then I ride about another 59 miles.. Had It checked and they said it was the tub in the tank ..Is there any way it can be adjusted or am I there for the life of the bike??? Ron:Cool_cool36:
  21. I need a starter silinoid for a 83 Venture XVZ12 where should i look to get a decent price. No I can't spell but I can ride. I have not checked the dealer yet, I really don't like their prices on anything. Tricky Tom
  22. Just recently my 86 VR has taken ill. She was running real well and strong until just last week. All of a sudden she seems to be lacking in power throughout the rpm range. I have synced the carbs and they are right on. Suspecting that the boost sensor may have crapped out, I checked the vacuum at #2 and it is good and when reconnecting the vacuum hose to the boost sensor, the rpms pick up. That, as far as I know is a sign the sensor is working and advancing the timing. New plugs installed not too long ago and appear to burning well. New wires and caps as well. Just last night, I pulled the air box top and filter and started the motor. Number two slider (the carb/cylinder providing vacuum to the boost sensor) is not bouncing/moving at all. I will have to pull that carb cover to check out what may be going on or what isn't going on and hopefully I can resolve the problem; quickly. What would be the symptom of one slide not working? I checked out the diaphragms not too long ago and all checked out; no holes, old but no holes. Perhaps the vacuum port that directs vacuum to this slider has somehow gotten clogged or something. Nbr 2 is firing because the pipe gets hot immediately after starting cold. If I can't figure this out quickly, I will still be at the rally; however, I will be on my Ultra. Any ideas or advice about a faulty slide.... I am all ears.
  23. Hi, I am having excessive backfiring when I downshift, checked carb sync, ok checked hoses to erg and looked for leaks on exhaust and intake manifolds, bike runs great, idels good starts good, I've had bike since new, 105895km on the bike regular service, there where plugs on the egr but we removed them, and it still backfires, so I would like some response to my problem and Im sure someone can give me the answer, thanks for the help to come, I will look foreward to your replys, this has come on over the past few weeks, Thank You .." Mobile " ps: the plug removed from the front hose had a black layer of carbon on the top of it, and I wonder if that would indicate the erg is defective ?
  24. At the risk of sounding stupid how much air pressure is every one running in their shocks on their 2nd generation RSVS? I have not checked my pressure but suspension seems "stiff"? Any help would be appreciated.
  25. Just thought that I'd pass this on I went to Meijer's today in Taylor Michigan and they had several cans of Seafoam in stock for $7.99 so I bought 2 cans which came to $15.98 When I checked out I got a big surprise when they applied a discount of $4.00 bringing the total to $11.98. (before taxes) What a deal. db
