  1. I took my (new to me) 1986 Royale out for the first time this weekend for a shake-down run. But when I got back, I noticed that my headlight was not working. In after-thought, I don't remember if it was working when I took off, I checked turn signals and brake lights, etc, but not headlight. No warning indicators on the dash lit up. I know before this "Sea-foam drive it like I stole event", it was working when I was checking the bike over. Anyways, I've checked the bulb - ohm'd good. filiments intact but only 1.2 volts present. Opened, cleaned left side handle bar switch, also minimum (1.2) voltage present on both low and high. Now, I'm thinking that it might be in the starter switch, since I'm not getting any indication of problems on the cmu and I never started it until yesterday. Am I on the right track?
  2. Ok I've lost my list of favorite online vendors when my pc had to be replaced a couple months back. Who do ya all recommend. I'm looking for OEM parts. Checked the local dealer with poor results on pricing besides the fact I still have to order all my items. That just sucks so may as well order all I need online anyhow. Had already checked Yamahapartshouse.com. Thanks in advance, Larry
  3. my screen started to fade in and out, checked the wiring, what else can cause this?
  4. After the past few fillups my fuel gauge never completely registers as full. It stays down by one bar. It may blip up to all bars but only for a few seconds. It seems to trend down O/K as the tank goes empty. I have not checked any connections yet and wonder if it a grounding problem. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Does anyone know how the sending unit works? Any help is always appreciated. Thanks JR
  5. This morning my power went out. Switched box over to the backup system diconecting from city provided power so not to conflict when city power comes back on. The generator engine started up just fine. Fliped the breaker switch one at a time. Then checked for power. No electricity. Hmmmm. double checked all my connections still no power. Brought a electric drill and pluged into one of the 110 outlets on he generator and no electricity. I do not know anything about generators. Is a Generic 5000 watt. Bought it new 15 years ago, always stored in a heated garage. Probably used is once or twice a year for maybe 10 hours each year. Anyone have any suggestions?
  6. Has anyone had problems with their radio not producing sound. When I turn ther key on I hear like a pop and that is all i get. While it was still under warrenty the dealer fixed the volue control oN the handle bars. I checked the fuse. it is good so now I dont know what to do next. :Please help if you can.
  7. Well it is that time again. The Avon Venoms have 11,414 miles on them. I put them on new myself at 4,130 miles on the bike, bought bike new. I checked the bike after it started feeling kinda squirrely. A strange feeling, almost as if the axle where loose. I checked all the air as usual/tires/shocks/forks, and found no problem. So then I thought well maybe the rear tire is worse than I thought/previously checked it. So after checking it again this evening, tire must be replaced before any further riding. I had to lock it up once about a month ago, tractor trailer pulled out in front of me. So I think this could be the cause of the one bad wore spot/about 4 inches long. There is at least one other spot that is somewhat worn also. My question is this. Should I replace the front also at this mileage (11,414) ? The front tire is with in about 1/16 " of being down to the tread ware mark in the center. I love these Avon tires. I have always run the Dunlop tires on other bikes. This is the first time for me to change out a set of worn Avon Venoms. That is why I am wondering about the front tire. I checked some other threads and saw where some have gotten 14,000 miles out of a rear tire. I understand that,riding habits, where you live/road conditions and curves and hills makes a difference in the ware. As I said I am happy with the mileage. But I did not find anything suggesting the front tire change mileage. Should I replace the front also at this mileage (11,414) ? Where is the best deal on a rear Avon or both front and rear ? Also, what about the white walls ? Any issues with these ? Thanks everyone for your input. Fuzzy
  8. Bought Ken W. (forum member) MCT Trailer in anticipation of our first two week trip...Wife and I are heading out Sept. 3rd heading to Badlands area of South Dakato....Been doing a lot of reading here.....Changed Oil, Filter, Rear End Gear Oil, Sync'ed Carbs, Checked Air in all tires (including trailer), checked Trailer bearing for grease....purchased tire plug repair kit....have small air compressor....Did test run on Blueridge Pkwy and Four-Lane at speed (no problems)..Cleaned and re-oiled K&N Filters.....Got a lot of help from a Goldwing riding couple on how to pack, size of cooler, etc.... How/Where do I download/print the VR Assist List? NOW I HAVE TO WAIT 3 WEEKS... BIDING MY TIME:fingers crossed:>>>>>OF COURSE I KNOW IT WILL GET DIRTY DURING THE TWO WEEKS... Long Tall Lynchburg, VA
  9. Having problems i have a 96 royal star transmission is stuck in second gear checked linkage no problems there. Is this a common problem thanks for any help.
  10. i need the round carb slides for my 1985 yamaha 1200 venture...2 are cracked and the other 2 have chunks out of them....the bike has sat for a few years...everything else is fine on the bike.i have checked everywhere for these parts with no success.
  11. I want to order out a set of Elite 3s but can't find any one with a rear tire that matches the number in the manual. I've checked Dennis Kirk, Jake Wilson, Directline, Motorcycle superstore, and some others. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Got back from a week's vacation with everything working fine on the bike. Got ready to go on a 3-day run and the audio control box would not work. So, no radio, no audio, or CB. Also, the trip meter and the clock resets itself every time you start the bike. I have checked fuses and found no problems there. Any ideas as to what is going on? Looking for answers.
  13. Proud owner of a 2006 RSV... completely screwed up and left key in "aux" mode... came back to find a flat battery... recharge was successful, however, my radio module is now not working at all. I have taken off the tupperware and checked and replaced the blade-type fuse, no help. REALLY like the audio on my RSV... and its out of warranty now... Any ideas? Thanks!
  14. After tracing some electrical grimlins associated with the TCI, I am now not able to get any fuel pressure nor any clicking. I checked the fuel pump for conductivity and it has none. I also checked the 85 bike fuel pump for conductivity and it does have conductivity, so it appears my 83 is open. I have even run 12 volts to the fuel pump and it will not do anything. So, does anyone out there have a spare fuel pump laying around? I may take the one off the 85, but my son is currently working thru some carb problems on it and I hate to do that unless I have to. I checked ebay and there are not any "good" deals that are not "Buy it now" and I hate to do that. I appreciate any help. RandyA
  15. i just had something like this happen when i left the hood open on a car in the rain. i replaced the wires and all was fine. THIS BIKE WAS PERFECT FOR THE PAST 1000 MILES UNTILL YESTERDAY I LEFT IT OUTSIDE IN A HORRIBLE RAINSTORM. i checked all the spark plug boots ( three of which are new) to see if the water got into them but they all have there protective seal over the top and bottom of the boot. its arcing somewhere but WHERE? I was just telling myself the other day how much i liiked that the rain didnt affect this bike. IT was a bad storm the other night, so far its been drying for about 1 day and still misfiring. i checked the kickstand wires which i already had rigged and i even cut and attached the wires for the kill switch and i think i already removed the tip over switch, please please help, ps im sure i wouldnt be having this problem if only i had closed the vents on the side of the motor....
  16. ok. new user here. i recently bought an 83xvz12. the taillights were working, but now they dont. however, the brake lights do! ive checked and replaced the bulbs, and the fuse. still nothing. i checked with a multimeter to the sockets and i do get readings. im confused. i read in here, there are a bunch of relays, but mine are no longer in the holder, and are just lying around in there. all of them are marked differently. help!
  17. A stock handlebar riser for a 2nd Gen? I decided to remove the 2" risers on mine because the throttle cables were binding and the threads on one of the stock risers is pretty well stripped. I'll be happy to pay. I've checked ebay, but would rather buy from someone here if they have them. Thanks!
  18. Hello Everyone: Wayde (67mini67) is enroute to Freebirds MD. He left Eastern Washington on Friday. He plans to stop here in Nebraska for lunch on Monday. I was pleased that he checked in with me last night about 4:00 PM. He was in Rock Springs WY at the time (775 miles). He still had 300 miles to go before his two night stop in Longmont. CO. He was doing fine dispite running in cool wet weather the entire way, even encountered temps in the mid 30's and snow at elevations above 6000 feet. I look forward to meeting Wayde on Monday. Hoping to add MD to my plans for next years travels. Ride safe everyone...Mark:)
  19. I have a 2001 RSV, the base of the radio remote has crumbled, and is no longer able to be secured to the bracket. I used JB Weld, but was wondering if anyone knows a part number for just the plastic case. I have checked all the online catalogs, but only find the complete remote. Thanks in advance for you help.
  20. Hello All. Thanks for taking a look. Little history first, 83 VR. Less thank 6k miles. New to me. Has spent the better part of its life sitting in a yard. So far, I have: Pressure washed Full carb overhaul Bleed the clutch Re soldered the CLASS thingy Changed spark plugs Checked gas tank for rust Some other odds and ends not related After getting my carbs finally done. Put em back on and it ran. Much improved than before. I have not synced yet. The tach is non responsive. I rev it up. It goes down. Let off it goes back up. Thought it was strange. Bike will not rev up past *k RPM. I do know that #1 is getting a spark when I push the starter button. Then as soon as it starts, the spark goes away. Of coarse I am letting off the button when it does start. However, if I tap the button while it is running I can see it get a spark. I know I should not do that. But it was a thought. If I hit the kill switch, I can see a weak spark. If I turn the IGN. switch off, I swear I see a weak spark again. I have checked the plug cap. It was clean. The place it mates with the wire was slightly corroded and loose. I have since cut off till I got good wire and reinstalled with no effect. As I type this its 26*. Its a bit cold to go dealing with it much. I have not checked out anything else. I plan to take the right hand controls apart and clean it. I also plan to check out the fuse holder on the bat. What else should I look at? And how should I do it? I was under the impression that coils either work, or dont. Is it safe to assume that? If she needs a new TCI, I will have to move on. I do not want to give up that easy, but buying a used on on eBay looks out of the picture. Michael

  22. Just out of curiosity, How often do you need to air up your shocks. Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Never. Mine seem to leak down in about 2 weeks or less, I was wondering if leaking is normal or should I have it checked. Bike is still under warranty.
  23. I have been working on my bike, got my cb working and radio working but I am unsure about the radio. Does this radio require an amp to get sound to the speakers? The radio comes to life and goes thru all the functions like it should but puts out no sound. I checked the speakers and they are in good condition. So my question is where is the amp if there is one, or what is it I might be doing wrong?
  24. O7 RSV has been sitting for 17 days. Turned on key. Lights came on. Hit start button. Heard click and lights go out. That's all. Turned key off and back on. Nothing. No lights, nothing. Thinking ignition switch is bad since I have been reading a lot about that here. After about a minute I turned the key back on. Lights came on. Everything looked normal. Hit start button. Same thing. Heard click. Lights go out. Did this several times. Always had to wait about a minute before switch would work. Checked battery and serviced cables and posts. Battery only 1 year old and has been on battery maintainer. Battery showed 12.98 volts. Checked fuses in left side fuse box. Checked battery + to frame. Full voltage. From all I have been able to glean from this extremely informative site I believe it is my starter relay or its connections. How do I get to it??? Or am I on the wrong track?? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Jim
  25. all of a sudden , no audio output either from the speakers or the headset from any source, GPS, radio, CD intercom, anything. I have a mike mute installed have worked for many miles. I have checked all the fuses I can find. all the electronics work, it's like the amperfier isn't working,, any suggestions
