  1. --- On Thu, 11/25/10, So true, so True. and a happy thanksgiving, before i forget lowell Subject: AAADD You have to be retired to appreciate this one. AAADD - KNOW THE SYMPTOMS Thank goodness there is a name for this disorder. Somehow I feel better even though I have it!! Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. Age Associated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it manifests: I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing. As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mailbox earlier. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car. I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full. Therefore, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first. Then I think, since I am going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Pepsi I had been drinking. I am going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Pepsi aside so that I do not accidentally knock it over. The Pepsi is getting warm. I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold. As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi, A vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye. They need water. I put the Pepsi on the counter and discover my reading glasses that I have been searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers. I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote someone had left it on the kitchen table. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs .. But first I'll water the flowers. I pour some water in the flowers. Quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back on the table, Get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do. At the end of the day: The car isn't washed The bills aren't paid There is a warm can of Pepsi sitting on the counter the flowers don't have enough water, there is still only 1 check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, And I don't remember what I did with the car keys. Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day, and I'm really tired. I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.... Do me a favor. Forward this message to everyone you know, Because I don't remember who I've sent it to.. Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!!
  2. sorry, this may be a duh question. I'm a classic Yamaha fan... just recently rebuilt a xs 750 triple. I saw this big bad beauty(83 venture royal) at a local used motorcycle place, with a nice winter project price tag, and couldn't resist. so every Japanese motorcycle has its own engeneering secrets and issues to overcome. I located where the oil goes in on the lower rear/right of the bike... but the cap had no dip stick? how do you check the oil? thank you all in advance.
  3. Well it started out with me going to my eye appointment. Had a check up after the laser surgery this spring for the glaucoma. Seems all is ok, even got pics of my optic nerve. Wish they hadn't dilated my eyes I might have been able to see the pics. Just a little thinning, but then we went to the grocery store in Elizabeth City. (this is the town next county up) Jeff paid I went to check on something while he was doing that. Found out on our way out of the store they gave him a senior discount. I found this very funny, see I'm older then he is. He's only 46 but all that gray hair and beard must make him look older, or he lied to me way back when we got married and he's really way older then I thought. Just thought some of ya might get a good chuckle out of that part. Margaret
  4. Check this out! Pretty amazing. Next is the Stepford Wives! http://www.flixxy.com/singing-and-dancing-robot.htm
  5. I could have sworn that a while back, I saw running lights on my rear turn signals...(Stock lighting). This morning, I noticed that the front signals had running lights (and signals) and the rear turn signals were just that...turn signals and NO running lights. I had the dealer do some warranty work last week (replaced the inner fairing and several other components)....and I'm wondering if something didn't get connected "securely". Can someone with an 08 RSV take a minute or two and check and see if the rear turn signals have running lights as well as signal lamps? I would greatly appreciate this sanity check!
  6. I left last week for a 2 week ride but had to cut it short due to an injury. I left Tenn today and drove 8 hours all the way on interstate. I made the turn off the interstate to the road that was four miles away to my home. I went to downshift to slow down at the ramp and couldn't find the shift lever. I looked over the side and it was hanging over on its side. I pulled over and sure enough the bolt had come out and was gone. I was only a few miles from a Yamaha dealership so I was able to hold it on with my boot and shift as needed to this shop where it was easily fixed. Moral of the story. Check this bolt. Something I've never bothered to look at.

  8. My Sweetie was pressuring me to go get a full physical and in a moment of weakness (my kids think it was forgetfulness due to my age) I agreed. Of course she made me promise to do what ever the doctor said I had to do (I think she knew what was coming and damned if she didn't keep a straight face about it ) and after some strong arm bending and bribery I promised. Well that doc did the blood test thing and the rubber glove deal and the heart monitor test (and a few others I think he probably made up off the top of his head ) and told me I was looking fairly good. Well I thought that was pretty good and was ready to leave quite content when he said there was one more test he wanted to do (and he smiled , or it might have been more of a gleeful smirk , as he said it). Yep, he was sending me off to get the boroscope thingy done (aka colonoscopy ). So now I am preparing for this deal. I made a check list and have gone through it. Lets see, pill taken? Check. Drink mixed up? Check. Two rolls of TP available? Check. Clear path to bathroom? Check. Okay it looks like I am ready to go (no pun intended). Any way you can bet that I will be a lot more careful about what I let my Sweetie talk me in to in the future and twice as careful about what I will promise her. I will say this though, she has been quite good about no making wise cracks about it , well at least not to much, but that particular grin she has is kinda of giving her away.
  9. There is a MK2 in El Monte Ca that I am interested in. Just wondering if there is anybody down there that would have time to check it for me. It is at a business, not a residence.
  10. CAUTION: Maybe it's just me.....But...while I was trying to find the solution to the vibration problem mentioned before (ie rear tire mounted backwards on the front of the trike) I found a serious problem. This was the second time... Bolts that secure the swingarm driveshaft housing to the rear trike assembly were missing!!! Well two of the four bolts were gone....With driveshaft assy loose vibration is a problem. I've had this problem before and the bolts were secured using nylock nuts and LocTite..This time I've installed Grade 8 bolts, Grade 8 nylock nuts and lock washers. This will now be pretty much a preflight check item...2- 9/16" wrenchs in the helmet so I don't forget.... Local road test was good, but Interstate will be used soonest to check high speed vibs..
  11. I learned why we wear off the left side of our tires , I have sold bikes because i think they have a bad frame . check out this link and tell us what you think ? http://www.rattlebars.com/tirewear/index.html
  12. went for a ride to the dragon this weekend. Every thing felt good there and back till my last stop. When I went to downshift on the exit ramp the shifter pedal went from normal to pointing straight down to the ground. I talked top muffinmman and he said to check the bolt that held the shifter to the transmision spline( think thats what it is called). the one that comes out of the side of the tranny. The bolt was loose but not broke so I tightened it up. Hers where it gets weird. Before I tightened the bolt I could shift up or down by hand . Now it is stuck in 5th gear. will not shift. I did pull the cog off of the splined gear to check , I think i got it bac in the same place not sure. help please as its too soo to end my year and I cant afford to put her in the shop just yet. Any ideas will be appreciated. My # is 336 707 5561 if anyone has any ideas that they arent sure they can explain over the internet or if you kneed more explanations of what Ive done. Im not a mechanic so I stopped where i was as Im not sure if it not changing is me putting it in a bind or if it want change because it cold as its always a little hard to get it to change before you warm it up. Again any help will be appreciated. David.
  13. Warden says "Get in car and drive South!!" Leaving Fri night may stop when wheels get wet? Or anywhere in between. Great plans for this one. Go find Beach?? Budget a lot tighter for Vacation on Retirement check. I told her we could take tent. She didn't seem to like that idea?? Taking sister-in-law along. She backs the Warden up. Going to be a long trip.... I may need Meds!!!
  14. Anyone have a left side helmet holder you'd part with? I know my key probably wouldn't fit it but that's ok since I don't use them anyway. I put on a strip light and used the helmet holders to secure it and didn't check to keep them tight and the left one fell off. I would like to get it back original if possible. PM me if you have an extra. (06 RSV) Thanks. Bill
  15. I was doing some maintenance before going on a three day trip with our local Star group so while I was at it I blocked off the AIS with rubber plugs. I was hoping that the popping would be gone. It's the same as it was before. I guess I need to check for an exhaust leak. Will synchronizing the carbs help? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
  16. i have my 2007 venture black tank for anyone who wants it.....rt side has good size dent...tank has about 15,000 miles on it.....i need about $25 for shipping.....check ,cash...not setup for credit card or paypal.........first come.... (tried to place ad....never works)
  17. Since I started doing my own maintenance I wanted some method of documentation. So I made a master check list and removed items not needed during each scheduled maintenance. I put short notes on the 'action taken' and staple receipts for oil and plugs etc. to the back. I then keep all of these in a file. if ever needed I will at least have some documentation. If this works for anyone else feel free to use them. Mike

  22. I have a 2000 Venture that is new to me and I was wondering (since I have no owners manual) What lights come on when You turn on the key. Mine only has the yellow check engine light come on for a few seconds then when I kit the starter 2 red lights one each side on the bottom come on while starting it.Should there be other lights come on when the key is on? Also I noticed 2 times in the 4,000 miles I have put on the bike that when it was really hot and I had a tail wind the yellow check engine light came on very faintly so faintly that at first I wasn't sure if itwas on or if it was the sun. Does this light let you know it is getting a little warm or what? Thanks for the help. I am sure I will get everything figured out with you alls help Rick

  24. My wife and I are heading to Springfield, MO this next W/E. Does anyone know of a VERY GOOD BBQ place down there? I would like to try so real Southern BBQ, to see if it is any different from what we have in Omaha, NE. Any other suggestions would be appreciated as well. We are hitting Branson for a day or two next week to check out the Baldknobbers also. I've never seen a stage show before and friends have told me that I will really enjoy that show. craigr
  25. There are no reflector/lights on the sides of my rear crash bars as I've seen others have. Do any of you know of some for sale or where I may check to find this item? Are these stock lights or is it an after market item? Your help will be appreciated. Owen.
